Do HTC devices lose the flash to another carrier (PagePlus) if I install a new rom or anything?

Naw. I'm also a fellow Page Plus user and I didn't lose my flash, even after the update to the bootloader. I did do it through Captains update instead of the official RUU I dunno if that makes a difference. I do know that if you're S-ON and you decide to run Moonshine or Runrunner to get S-OFF then you will lose your flash.

so lemme get this straight, if i purchase the htc rezound, flash, then s-off, ill lose flash?
also, will this method work and still have flash?
http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm
I would assume it's correct since it happened with my evo, so I would suggest s-off first, then proceed with flashing the phone. That method is a more complicated way of getting s-off and I believe they mentioned they only fully support it though linux.
Agree with Shredder. I recently flashed my Evo 4g lte to page plus and had the same problem when i did the FacePalm S-OFF routine. Lost my pageplus flash. Had to do the flash procedure again.
Later i realized i had to update the radio to install most kitkat ROMs.
Had to follow Captain_throwback's steps here for that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639180
I thought i might loose the pageplus flash after this, but did not happen. My pageplus flash was intact after upgrading the radio version using the above. After upgrading the radio, yday i installed the Slimkat rom and everything is working as of now.
I have to mention i do not have 3g yet. Only voice and sms,
no 3g after S-OFF

Same thing happened to me when I S-OFF. I only have voice and sms. MMS seems to only work on 3g which I only can get 1x. Let me know how you get 3gwhen you get it, because I tried everything I did before that got me 3g but no success this time.

Hello,
I purchased a used Evo 3D for my wife and while I am familiar with rooting and modding on the Galaxy S3 (my phone) I am not familiar with the Evo 3D. My wife has not been able to get data services on her phone without being on WiFi since buying the phone. She took it to Sprint to get looked at and apparently they said the guy that owned it prior flashed it and flashed something wrong on the device so the radio is messed up. What is the best process to take this phone back to stock modem, firmware, etc.? Or is there a radio I can flash on her phone to make it work? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

That depends on what he flashed. Do you get a Virgin Mobile logo when you boot the phone?
You can try my root and S-OFF guide and stop after Step1 if you don't care about root and S-OFF, but if the Virgin Mobile firmware was flashed by the previous owner you will need to go through a separate process to clean that up before the phone will be back to Sprint stock.

No there isn't a virgin mobile sign when powered on. It looks and acts stock and being someone that roots and flashes roms on my phone, I never even thought that this could be the issue.

If you can flash the RUU to get it back to 100% stock and data still doesn't work, then call Sprint and have them do manual provisioning of the data services. Based on what you've said so far, it sounds like voice calls are working OK?

Yea her voice calls and text messages work. Just apps (and the internet itself) that require data will not work. Is there a certain requirement for going back to stock? From what I am reading, hBoot comes into play and what not. I don't have to deal with hBoot on my phone so I am not familiar with it.

Is the phone rooted now? If so you will need to relock the bootloader, otherwise you can just flash the RUU.exe from Windows. You can check the current status by holding the VolumeDown+Power buttons until the bootloader appears.
It might be worth a call to Sprint to see if they have provisioned the data services properly before doing that. You could even go to the "Settings/System updates" from the main menu and try updating profile and prl from there before calling. The reason I recommended flashing the RUU is because Sprint told you the prior owner had flashed incorrect firmware, but that could be bad information.

I am flashing the RUU now. Will this put the radio/firmware/etc back to how the phone came? She was never able to update PRL or Profile and that is where the problem originated. We purchased the phone, activated it, and in order to provision it Sprint had us attempt the profile and PRL updates which would both fail. Sprint tech (that physically looked at it) said it had been flashed with a bad radio and that is why the phone would not accept the profile and PRL updates. I am hoping this RUU file will fix everything. I did check and the phone was not rooted (via root checker app) and when I went into the bootloader, it said the phone was s-on.
I just finished flashing the RUU. The kernel, baseband, and build all stayed the same and it still gives me an error when attempting to update the profile or PRL saying that the phone cannot access data services. Do I need to try flashing another radio at this point?
I am completely at a loss here because I found a list of all radios for this phone and she has the only one that has been released for ICS. The baseband on her phone matches the listing for the ICS radio. So I don't see how she has a bad radio. Would the kernel affect it any? Just trying to get this phone working.

If you flashed the current RUU she has the correct radio and other firmware, and Sprint can verify that. As I said in my previous post, they may have given you incorrect information, but now that you flashed the RUU and are 100% stock you can all Sprint (*2) and ask them to make sure your data services are provisioned correctly.

She doesn't even have a standard recovery for me to try a radio fix I saw in another post. When I go into recovery there is an error on the bottom of the screen (relating to some sort of file) and it won't let me click on anything. And I can't try to flash the PG86IMG.zip because from what I understand you have to be s-off. When I boot up into the bootloader it is looking for the PG86IMG.zip but says it isn't present. does that matter? How can I get the recovery back if she isn't rooted and she is s-on?
EDIT: The error is "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"

If you flashed the RUU.exe you should have the stock recovery installed and not get errors when you boot into recovery. I honestly can't remember what the stock recovery looks like when you boot into it, but I think it has a triangle or some other graphic in the midde of the screen.
Also, if the RUU.exe completed successfully you should have the correct radio and firmware so there would be no need to flash anything else. Firmware, including radio, can only be updated by flashing an RUU if you are S-ON, since updating it from the bootloader requires S-OFF.
It sounds like your RUU flash may not have been complete if you are getting errors booting into recovery. Can you take a picture using your other phone of the bootloader screen and what you get when you try to boot recovery and post it here as attachments?

Yup, that's the stock recovery. Not sure why you are getting that error, though.
Your best bet might be to go to the htcdev.com website and get the unlock token and flash it, then flash a custom recovery and see if you can boot from the bootloader into that. That's all included in step 2 of my guide. You don't need to flash SuperSU if you don't want root, but at least you can see if 4EXT recovery will boot without errors.
Here's a thread in the Android Q&A section where someone had the same error on another HTC phone and solved it by flashing a custom recovery. It sounds to me like there might be something wrong with the physical partitions on your phone.
Can you boot into the stock ICS ROM successfully? If so, it might still be worth a call to Sprint to see if they can activate your wife's data services manually.

I have been working on this phone for hours, and hours. and it has been one of the most frustrating phones i have ever worked with.
Okay so i can flash and change roms fantastically!
Im currently switching from verizon to T-Mobile and i heard there was a GSM capability. So on i went with research, I have tried so many different rom's, rom's with GSM that come with it.Nothing worked. No signal no nothing. one rom realized there was a sim card in but it said the sim card was full, which is definitely not full. I never got a good instruction and right files for the S-off function so i never made it S-off nor do i know what kind of wire to use. the most disappointing is that it can't get a signal and i flashed the RUU 4.0..... something and it did nothing to the radio on my phone when in bootloader. If anyone has some idea of what i can do with easy to follow instructions. I that much of a noob. I had successfully rooted and unloacked (sim by myself) and unlocked and flashed roms for the HTC Rezound. It's just this one thing that has been bother the crap out of me... nothing worked.
Did you go under network settings and select preferred network then select GSM?

When you did the ruu, the second time it runs through the ruu (after first reboot) it will update the radios and system. Did you make sure when you did the ruu that you had to start it twice from hboot ? what version radios do you see listed in hboot ?

Then you don't have global firmware yet. You need to ruu to 605.12 and then take the 6mb ota that will take you to 605.13. Then take one more ota @207mb which will give you full global radios and firmware.
Globals hboot is also 2.28 so you know what to look for.

An alternative would be to install the global leak RUU first. From there you can follow the process for first installing the global update firmware (in the general discussion forum), then installing the global update itself (in the original android development forum).
Unfortunately, neither of the paths available to you is going to be totally painless...
Good luck,

So I haven't really found anyone with as specific a situation I'm in so I figured I'd make a new thread.
I was running a CM10.1 build from late July, which still had some bugs but was bearable. I upgraded to CM10.2 to try it out, but it was buggier than the CM10.1 build. I saw that the bugs were fixed in the latest build of CM10.1 so I flashed that. Since then I've been stuck in Roaming and can't activate my phone.
Each time I flashed I restored my 100% stock backup (I have a nandroid from the day I got the phone). Every flash was a clean install wiping data/cache/dalvik. Was first roaming when I reverted back to CM10.1, but restoring my backup and even flashing CM10.2 again I'm roaming still.
Basically, once I was roaming, I haven't stopped regardless of ROM.
And I'm sure someone will ask, I have S-off.
How do I go about fixing this?
EDIT: I've tried a clean flash of the same ROM with the sim card removed and tried changing the subscription type after like I've seen in another thread, but this did not work.

Downloading the RUU now. I've also tried flashing the 1.15 hboot and recovery, but they don't seem to have done anything. I'm still on 2.06... I unlocked my phone originally with moonshine, so my bootloader used to say moonshine s-off. now it says tampered/locked so I think hboot worked, but the recovery doesn't seem to have done anything.
UPDATE: The RUU ran it's course. Seems like the file for the other link was just bad (I had downloaded it twice). The phone is attempting to activate now, but it still can't get a signal. I know the signal at my house is usually pretty bad, but leaving it on the window sill usually does the trick. If worse comes to worse, could I at this point return it to Verizon without them knowing what's up?

Yeah the RUU seemed to work, I just still can't get a signal. Phone says no service and I can't get past the activation screen. I say "seemed" to work because I can't check in settings because I can't get past the activation... but the bootloader looks like stock again, whereas it said tampered before the RUU.
Thank you for the help by the way, I appreciate it.
RUU worked, I'm on 1.15. However, it didn't solve my no service problem. Could this be as trivial as a SIM problem? Is there anything else it might be?

In order to recovery or restore the original phone factory setting you have to do RUU and Reset Phone*** is the way to get back
Stock recovery(= reset phone) to work properly. Even if you are on a Stock Rom it has a custom recovery so doing factory reset wont
work to restore the original phone setting.
after RUU you must do a phone reset either from setting>back up & reset or from the bootloader factory reset is the same Stock Recovery.
I read somewhere that flashing this Rom Stock rooted fix a roaming thing so you can give it a shot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471836

There is no RUU for either 3.16 or 3.17. If you were S-off you could use Viperboy's VipeRUU tool, which will put you back totally stock. Captain Throwback posted a link somewhere around here regarding how to go back to stock. If I find it I'll post it up for you. In the meantime, the easiest thing for you to do would be to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP recovery so that you have a working phone.

Thanks I was hoping to find a RUU, but now I have unlocked it again backed up rom with TWRP and trying to get Moonshine or RumRunner to work. No luck yet getting S-off
If you're on the 3.16 OTA use Moonshine; for the 3.17 OTA use Rumrunner.

Use stock rooted ROMs only
I am trying to do the same, and my phone is the same (Rooted, unlocked, S-on, TWRP, Mean Bean). I need to get back to stock to reactivate my phone with Sprint (long story). Can I flash a stock ROM with TWRP?

You can re-activate with MeanBean.

I actually did, but I don't have a data connection. The manager at the Sprint Store (who is actually a good friend of mine) said it won't activate data unless I'm on a stock ROM and can use the "activate this device" function under "phone info". Not sure if he's correct on that, but I can't get data, and need to go back to stock to see if it works...
Then flash one of Captain Throwback's stock rooted ROM's. You do not have to be "stock" to get your phone working again-you just need a Sense ROM.

which leads me back to my original question... can I flash a stock rom using TWRP if I am S-on?

easy as pie! Once I installed the stock ROM and activated the device I had 4G right away. Did a nandroid, reinstalled Mean, then reinstalled from my Mean back up and now I'm cooking with fire. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
FWIW - My friend was partially right, you do have to be on a stock ROM to reactivate data service, but you DO NOT need to unroot.
To piggy back off this, I'm planning to turn in my EVO 4G and move onto the Sprint One Up program...if I'm rooted on CM10.2 (still S-ON) though...how much effort do I need to put in for Sprint to accept my phone?

From what I have read some people have returned phones with them being rooted/unlocked and multiple roms and there has not been a issue. I guess worst they can say is no. Then go home return it to stock and try again.
Or just return to stock and take it in.
My purpose for the Original thread was I am going to sell mine and I just wanted to sell it stock. I sold my first Android Hero way back and it had been rooted and flashed and the person I sold it to had issues getting it activated through sprint. They sent it back to me for refund and I returned it to stock and sold it like that and the person who bought it was a ex sprint employee and he was upset I flashed it back to stock saying the person should have and zero issues activating it. Now he had to root and flash it himself. I just find it easier to return it to stock myself and sell it,
Then I know no matter if a basic or advanced user buys it they can activate it.
Hope that helps
I just got a replacement rezound because my other one had a million problems. The new one seemed to work perfectly so I unlocked the bootloader and installed a cm11. Everything seemed to work great until I realised that I couldn't make phone calls. Whenever I would call or someone would call me the call would instantly end. I figured it was a problem with cm11 so installed another rom and had the same problem. Then I installed a sense rom and still no calls. I have tried those Ruus and it just says that it can't update my phone. I even tried the ota stock rooted rom and that didn't even flash because it was corrupted. I just need to get back to stock so I can return this stupid thing.

Which guides would those be exactly? I can run linux from a usb drive no problem but I don't know where to look for the most current wire trick for s-off
They are right here in the q&a section....one is an s-off guide which is required for downgrading to stock and the other is a downgrade/upgrade guide...once on stock ROM and recovery there is another method for gaining son back so you'll have straight from factory stock....but if you plan on keeping and using the phone I suggest keeping s-off....when I get a few minutes and access to PC I'll dig up links unless you find them...they both are on first page of q&a section
