Hi Guys,
So this is how you edit the volume files
Prerequisite
1. Root
2. Backup
3. Root Explorer
Method
1. Use any root explorer and go to
system/ etc/ mixer_paths.xml
2. search for <path name="speaker"> then edit <ctl name=RX7 Digital Volume" value = "83" />
change 83 to 89 or any digit below 93 (just to be on the safer side)
3. RESTART
There are other options to edit i.e headphones etc just explore edit and post your optimum value.

ummm.. you do realize there are various options to edit right ? editing speaker values will affect speaker only . Is that what you wanted?
Ok I tried again and worked perfectly,thanks!!
Worked for me perfectly, thanks a lot!
works btw. Do you guys know which one is for bluetooth headphones, or will the headphones work for bluetooth?
Speaker "87" suits me n almost makes the speaker with cracking sound...
Handset "85" which slightly increase the earpiece...

On the xperia e1 i didn`t find the RX7 value in the mixer_paths.xml file. For speaker i have rx3 digital volume with value of 83.
I am looking to up the volume of my headphones, but in the headset section i do not have hphl and hphr values, only rx1 and rx2 digital volume with value of 84. Any sugestions ?
Thanks !
anyone knows what the max value is?
Tested on the z ultra c6802 all 84s set to 92 very minamil increase. If any thanks.
Never mind looking for stuff in xml files, just download Nexus 5 Real volume boost from play store and you have loud sound.
Tested and working perfect!

I've manually changed many values in the mixer paths in order to increase in call volume, loudspeaker and headphone output.
Ear piece volume set to 93 or max 95, headphone value to 97 or 98 and speaker/loudspeaker to around 95.
Sounds good for me!
I know this is a tad old of a thread, but I wanted to say thanks to anybody who is having low volume out of an older KitKat device.
I was recently given two KitKat phones (LG L34C and ZTE 932L) and only the LG seems to have a Root right now.
The LG was a decent phone but it was super frustrating how low Bluetooth Headphones and Bluetooth Speakers were after paired especially if they did not have volume controls on them.
After changing speaker and handset I can finally get nice and loud sound to where I have to turn the speakers down when setting it to "89".
Oddly it was set to "60" for speaker and handset to "50" by default.
I walk by noisy cars at times and it was too way low to even hear a connected Bluetooth Speaker before.

Same. Is it normal that music is soft through earpiece? Unrooted by the way.

I managed to increase it a bit from the the Sound Menu in Settings.
I used the Sound Enhancement and changed the equaliser sliders.
I also later install Player Pro and Poweramp. Both gave better and louder sound.
The equaliser had a preamp slider to increase
Fixed Xperia Z2 headphone volume -NO ROOT-
You can increase your headphone volume on xperia z2 dramatically,before i used this method my volume was constantly on 100% because it was too low,and now it's on 60% because it is too high and the best of all is that quality is untouched.This method is very easy...First of all download app called volume booster.Now your walkman settings should look like on the pics i uploaded before you start using the app (I hope they did im new on this site and im on my phone lol) ok so go to walkman/settings/ and do the SAME settings as i have on pics.When you'r done with that take your headphones plug them in play some song,go to volume booster and and move volume button in app from maximum to minimum and without releasing the button move it to the maximum(your button should barely touch the minimum sound so do it fast ---> From max to minimum without releasing than to the maximum and release button,you will hear sound like you do when you press volume up for call volume) if volume after that sound doesnt increase do it more times until the volume isn't VEEERY loud.I do it every time when listening to song it's not hard as it sound you will get used to it,it will pay off trust me Love my xperia z2 now ^^ (settings are in croatian but that isnt importnant just uncheck clear audio go to equaliser and max out evertything and turn on DSEEHX( CRUCIAL STEP)
Even simpler solution... Use viper4Android from here:good:
I've been looking around for a guide related to loweri g the volume levels of my headphones.
It looks like on CM based ROMs the best way to do this is to lower the volumes in mixer_he.XML,but when I attempt this I do not get any sound until I restore the file.
Has anyone successfully done this on an LG G3?
Thanks.

Someone posted a mixer file recently in one of the ROM threads (sorry I can't be more specific) to increase the volumes. Maybe you can look for that, and see what they increased, so you will have an idea what to reduce and how much.

My headphones are much too loud even at the lowest volume setting. And yes, I have used the volume buttons
<ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value="30" />
<ctl name="RX2 Digital Volume" value="30" />
Have to change these two above values in /etc/mixer_paths.xml
For the path of headphones and headphones digital.
I, like many, feel that the maximum in-call handset earpiece volume is too low for even moderately noisy environments. I have found a way to remedy this. I have tested this over a period of time to make sure there are no adverse effects before posting here.
I am NOT responsible for damage to your phone from applying this change. Apply it at your own risk!
Requires root
Tested on a stock ROM and PureNexus. It should work on most stock-based ROMS.
EXCEEDING GAINS AND VOLTAGES IN THIS MOD IS NOT RECOMMENDED AND MAY DESTROY YOUR EARPIECE, EARPIECE AMPLIFIER, OR YOUR HEARING! More is not better.
I try to visit this forum regularly, but have a very demanding job. I'll try to answer questions when possible, but this change is really pretty easy.
You need to have a root-aware file manager like FX, ES File Explorer, Root explorer, etc. You will also need to be able to edit an XML file either on your device or offboard on a computer.
1. Navigate to /system/etc
2. Find your mixer_paths.xml file
3. Make a backup of the file on your internal storage or computer in case you want to revert down the road.
4. Open it for editing or export to your computer to edit.
5. Find this section (line 1684, about 3/4 of the way down):
Code:
<path name="handset">
<ctl name="Imon Enable" value="Off" />
<ctl name="Vmon Enable" value="Off" />
<ctl name="ClassD Only" value="On" />
<ctl name="Boost Output Voltage" value="6.5V" />
<ctl name="Left Speaker Gain" value="20" />
<ctl name="Receiver Enable" value="On" />
</path>
and change it to this (comments are optional but make changes easier to find):
Code:
<path name="handset">
<!-- MOD: Increase Handset Earpiece Volume -->
<ctl name="Receiver Enable" value="On" />
<ctl name="Imon Enable" value="On" />
<ctl name="Vmon Enable" value="On" />
<ctl name="ClassD Only" value="Off" />
<ctl name="Boost Output Voltage" value="8.5V" />
<ctl name="Left Speaker Gain" value="15" />
<ctl name="Left Speaker Enable" value="On" />
<!-- END MOD -->
</path>
6. Save the file.
7. Replace the file on /system/etc
8. Make sure its permissions are correct (the same as the other xml files in that path - 644)
9. Reboot
10. Profit
As stock, the earpiece speaker amplifier is run in a lower power, lower gain mode for calls vs multimedia. This essentially puts the earpiece into it's multimedia speaker mode but with much lower gain.
I've been looking for this for a looooong time. Thanks for the great find!
Volume too loud
Is it possible to do the exact opposite? How? What values? My incall volume is very loud even on the lowest setting! Tks a lot.
Probably leave the edited section stock but change the left speaker gain to 17 or 15. That said, you may have other issues if your volume control isn't turning the in-call volume down enough - it should go down to almost inaudible in stock configuration.
Just tried this mod and it works great. I work out of a tool filled old Ford E-250 work van that has a ton of rattles and squeaks. I can finally hear while driving the rust bucket.
Tks a lot TBacker. It does not work. I think I have a bad unit.
@TBacker
thank you for this mod!! this works wonderfully (almost too good). If i wanted the lowest volume to be a little lower, i would change the 15 to a lower number like 12?

Correct. Try in small steps (like 2 at a time), as each step may cover more volume range than you'd expect. So first attempt should be 13.
Dang, i cannot find those lines.
I remember there was an app for this for the G3. Wish this was, I don't like having to manually edit this stuff, especially every new update. Thanks for figuring this out for us man!
attached is the Mixer_paths.xml edited as per the OP.
Feel free to copy and paste this into your phone and set the permissions
I'm sure someone could make this into a flashable zip too
Thanks, @TBacker and @steveo17, worked perfectly!

attached is a mixer_paths with the gain level lowered to 13
and one more with gain lowered to 11

I don't believe this is correct. While we're modifying gains and amp settings that look like headphone controls, they're inside the in-call handset tags, which only activate in that mode.
Now if you start changing the other gains at the top of the file, they have a global effect across multiple modes.

i agree with that; however, after changing these settings, my volume when using headphones probably tripled at least.
Can you test yours to see how it reacts?
If you're rooted, you can also use a kernel manager that has headphone, speaker, and mic gain controls, and boost them within that application. That worked for me. I use the Franco kernel, and use fkupdater, the paid version of the app on the play store. Cheers!
Hello,
For last month or so, I'm experiencing this very low volume of call speaker (not the one at bottom).
When I play music or videos, I also noticed that the normal top speaker is weak, while the bottom speaker is loud.
Is this a software related or hardware issue?
I'm on stock latest Android 7.1.1 (32.4.A.1.54), never done unlocking or any custom ROM on it.
I think this started after recent updates of Support app which were pushed.
Using handsfree, wired or Bluetooth is same, to me it seems like a software issue.
Is there any settings I can change which can make the call volume loud again?
Thanks.

its mostly software issue i doubled my speaker and voice,ringtone,media ,alarm, with root ( i change all mixer value so i do not remember which is which
my alarm now more then 60% doubled it sound distorted
so i cant post the file because it not perfect what im only sure of
under
<path name="voice-speaker">
<ctl name="RX7 Digital Volume" value="0" />
<ctl name="RX8 Digital Volume" value="84" />
there are left and right speakers for voice call
mine now is 90&90 i hear stereo and much louder on speaker phone
Thanks for your reply.
My phone is stock, and I want it to keep it stock. Is there any other way it can be fixed?
If not, I'm now thinking of changing my phone to Xiaomi Mi6 or one from Redmi series.

If you want to tamper with /system - you need root. For root, you need unlocked BL. This phone is much faster anyway with a custom kernel.

Update on low volume issue after flashing custom ROM.
Volume seems to be back at normal. Made some calls and it is now reasonably better than before. Using this ROM https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=3694904&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
It already have volume patches applied, so I didn't touch anything yet in system folder.

Hi!
I used to modify mixer_paths file to decrease in-call volume, because for me the lowest setting is still too high in many cases.
Under <path name="headset">, I would find a Digital Volume setting and substitute its number with a lower one.
However, I can't figure out how to achieve the same thing with XZ1. Under System/Vendor/Etc, there are two files: mixer_paths.xml and mixer_paths_tasha.xml. The first does not seem to do anything (the sounds of the phone did not change even after I renamed it). The second is being used by the phone, but in it under <path name="headset">, there is no Digital Volume variable. My attempts to guess which other values could be responsible for call volume thus far have been fruitless.
Do you have any ideas about how this setting could be altered in XZ1?

Its more of like "wich audio module modifes mixer path etc". Every module. Try sound enhanchement xperia 10 module or others.
Took a look at Sound Enhancement Sony Xperia 10 Magisk Module. It says:
Sound Enhancement FX can only be applied with Music apps that has external EQ option such as Xperia Music, Youtube Music, and Spotify. Not working with SoundCloud or Youtube app.

It appears to be aimed at enhancing music playback. Am I missing something?
