I miss the 4.1.2 keyboard for the easy ability to long press on a key for the corresponding symbol. I dont like hitting the symbol key just to get the choice of symbols to pop up. Anyobe have the old keyboard apk I can install. or suggest a different keyboard. I haven't found a keyboard with the symbol under each key and a seperate line for numbers.
The new swiftkey beta has the long-press symbol under each key as well as dedicated number row that has to be enabled under the options.

Has any research been done into whether the keys listed in the Symbols on-screen keyboard can be changed? The first row of symbols can be activated using the number keys on the hard keyboard. I'd like to move semicolon up to the first row and replace one of the rather less useful smiley-faces, as there is no longer an Fn-key combo to quicky type a semi as there was on the xv6800.
Because there's a hard key to bring up the symbols pad, that'd get me back to two keystrokes for a semicolon, far better than one keystroke + hunting around in the symbols keyboard.
Hi,
Is it just me or is it my phone specifically or is it the Stock 6.1 Sprint ROM is defective. When I used the slide out keyboard and press the Sym key (5th from left on the bottom row of keys) nothing happens. If I press Fn and the Sym key, the web browser starts. but why don't I get a symbols pop-up?
Anyone? Help?
Please and thank you.
I searched and was unable anything-- how do you enable navigation buttons in text entry for this ROM? Editing long text messages before sending is next to impossible b/c I can't scroll up or down or left or right to see what was previously entered.
Posted here b/c I'm under-count to post in the dev thread in the dev forum.
I use "smart keyboard pro" with the HTC themed skin. It had the nav buttons you're asking about.
Signature.
My best suggestion for you would be downloading "Gingerbread Keyboard for 2.3". After downloading it, go into your settings menu, and under "language & keyboard" enable gingerbread keyboard. Then go into anywhere where you can input text, longpress the text box to select "input method" and select "Gingerbread Keyboard". From this keyboard, press the spacebar and swipe your finger up. This should pop up keyboard arrows. When you're done, swipe down instead of up.
If I helped ya, and hit the "Thanks"
Before I begin, I just want to point out that I've read the suggestions at these 2 topics here:

Ok, so basically I'm running MiniCM7-2.1.9 and I want to get the Symbol key to work. Right now, pressing the Symbol key doesn't bring up the Symbols menu, it just emulates the blue number key instead.
After following the suggestions at the 2 topics I posted above, I did manage to get Symbol key to work, but I don't like the layout of the "Default" input keyboard. I want the "Android keyboard" layout, while still able to use the Symbol key.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
You can't... Sym key only works on SE Default Input keyboard.
when connected to the dock, i cannot get my mouse pointer to change to a hand when hovering over links. It works with actions buttons like selecting an emoji or changing the font on here, but attempting to click on a link does nothing. Yes, i can still click and the link and it opens up, but no indication that i am hovering over a link.
