Hi
I'm using GTI9100 with Omni ROM 4.4.2.
I flashed my phone to its stock JB ROM. Anyway when stock ROM is flashed the flash counter should reset. But not reset yo 0. Earlier I tried and it works fine. But now the counter is showing as 4. Can you please advise me to reset the counter to 0
Thanks in advance

No, flashing a stock rom won't reset the counter. That's the whole point of the counter, its meant not to be reset once it has been changed (ie you flashed non-stock firmware).
Search for the xda thread for Triangle Away by Chainfire. Never used it myself cos I don't care about the flash counter /yellow triangle, but I don't imagine it's difficult to use.

Hi guys, i'm going to sell my galaxy s2 and the buyer want it all stock. I'm using the cm10 ROM on it. I've already downloaded the factory stock firmware on sammobile.com. Until there everything was ok, but now I'm not sure about the way to flash the stock firmware. Should I flash it by clockworkmod, as the customs Roms I've flashed before? Or should I flash it by Odin, like an unrooted phone?
Since now, thanks a lot for your help

Flash it via Odin as PDA
Then wipe all in recovery

when doing this, will the yellow triangle go away, phone get unrooted, and flash counter reset to 0?
cus im sure the buyer would want any avaliable warranty back aswell.
It would probably be good to reset counter before flashing, maybe with Triangleaway. Once i flashed original rom over custom with MobileOdin. Everything went well.

No, to reset counter and remove triangle you can do it either with a usb jig or by downloading chainfire app "triangle away" (Search it on the play store")

When u're flashing samsung stocks it'll does full wipe include rom itself, kernel, root, user data & caches then turn all to factory value. So don't even too worries about all u said above. But it worth to use stock 4.0.3 & avoid stock 4.0.4 in case to avoid emmc superbrick bug if u still doubt about advancing..

If you flash a "samsung official rom" it will take the triangle away but it does not reset the counter.
I have flashed CM9 CM10 and 2.3 stock , 4.0 stock a few times and my count is at 7, each time i flash stock the triangle goes away but the counter keeps counting.
I need to send my SGS2 back to Samsung for a hardware display fault on warranty, but obviously they're going to check the software etc.

I did find a guide, so yes, I have taken time to look. But there is one thing which I'm not sure about.
Currently my phone is Gingerbread 2.3.3 original ROM with CF root with Siyah kernal (CWM Recovery), firmware has never been upgraded. But Samsung warranty told me that my phone has to have the latest firmware (ICS I think) for them to process my warranty, so I have to upgrade the firmware.
Do I need to upgrade to ICS before doing the guide to reset to factory stock? Or reset to factory stock as Gingerbread then update to ICS? I also don't know if as a rooted phone with a different kernel can update itself the "normal" way through the Settings/Software option?
Thanks
I've had to do this and I returned it to stock by:
Flash stock ics
Root phone and install triangle away app
Run triangle away to remove triangle and reset counter to 0
Re-flash stock ics and factory reset. Done.

so do you mean that when you flash stock ICS, the phone becomes unrooted?
and how did you flash stock ics? using odin or kies or ota (i think from the phone settings)?
and how did you reflash it?
thanks.

Yes when you flash a stock ROM the insecure kernel is replaced with a stock kernel, therefore you lose root access to your phone. All this is done through Odin.

Hey, guys I'm a bit of noob, rooted my i9300 s3 a couple of months ago installed cwm and a few roms, my question is if I reflash to stock using Odin would I be able to get ota or would I have to do triangle away first
Flashing a stock ROM will reset the counter to 0 , you will get ota updates

i don't get it
s
Are you sure, from everything ive heard you have to use triangle away to reset the counter and then flash stock, besides i don't even care about resetting the binary counter i just wanna know if having a binary count prevents you from installing ota updates even if you flashed stock firmware and have stock recovery

Negative, flash count doesn't reset to 0 just because of flash stock, however that red mark on up-left screen will be gone if everything (ROM, kernel and recovery ) stays in stock.
Flash count you have to clean it with triangle away, however, latest bootloaders have upgraded security measure, not even triangle away can make it to 0, so you have to flash the older bootloaders
Yes, you will get OTA if everything I mentioned before stays in stock but what is the point for that ? You can always flash the latest firmware...

Hi, I have a problem with my S3. I don't know what's going on!
I can't reset my flash counter with TriangleAway anymore. Tried and retried, but nothing!
Before you ask me, I am on vanilla stock XXUGMK6 ROM, stock Kernel and stock recovery. SuperSU is updated to the latest version.
Are you running the latest triangle away? A version was released about a week ago that had a bug that stopped it from working but a fix has been released.
TriangleAway 3.26 is the latest version, am I right?
I also tried v. 3.10 (the last one I used to work) but nothing, flash counter stays at 8.. if I reflash the original ROM with Odin, trying to reset the counter with TriangleAway only causes the integer to go +1 everytime. I'm ending up with like 20 flash count
Try downgrading your bootloader to BLFB then reset counter, triangle away works fine for me on 4.3.
Sorry, but I bought this phone in November 2013 and the original firmware version was XXEMG4. I don't think I can do any downgrade
Bootloader is irrelevant to the firmware. I'm on UGML4 firmware with BLFB bootloader, custom recovery & kernel and zero flash count.
If you downgrade you shouldn't use download mode for anything, due to SDS risk.

I don't want to risk a brick by messing up with the bootloader.
Also, I always knew that, in the electronic world, you can't put a firmware below what the device was programmed for.
I will try to flash EMG4 and use TriangleAway again, hoping that resets the counter!
Well, downgrading to XXEMG4 and running TriangleAway from there it did the game!
Problem solved, thanks

Firmware is not the same as bootloader lol. The bootloader is wat boots ur fone. Like for windows. The bootloader is mbr. Linux is grub. Android idk wat it is called. But it is definitely irrelevant to the firmware issue.

Hi i have the same problem , i cant reset flash counter. I Got GMK6 , how to downgrade to XXEMG4 ?
Follow the guide in general, stickies on how to flash a stock rom, factory reset afterward.

ye ye i know but there wont be problem with that EFS? when i downgrade from GMK6 to EMG4??
If u have it rooted thats why u cannot reset it ... --'

maybe but after i reset i still have flash counter 5 so it's totally not working , no idea why (my device is rooted)
Simply downgrade to 4.1.2 following the guide. No EFS problems if you put EMG4 or later in your S3!

Could you share pointer. I tried triangle away 3.26. But it did not reset counter.
I am on XWUGML4.
Then I reset counter again and this time i rebooted and did factory reset. Everything is status official except for the counter

Use a custom kernel that support from TriangleAway ... like Boeffla Kernel.
