So how can I enable this without having to pay for it? My old M7 developers edition turned this on no problem. I don't want to root so I can keep the OTA updates.

You're going to have to root to get it working no matter what. Last year, with the M7, someone created a modified apk that had to be flashed in recovery and allowed hotspot to work natively.
I always root just to get tethering and block ads. Currently, there's no solution for the tethering, but someone will figure it out.
Yeah, I flashed ARHD, works perfect! Hotspot is a go!

If I go through the HTC Bootloader unlock, will that allow me to gain root so I can use a Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot app like Barnacle? It needs root access.

That's the first step. You'll then need to root your phone after it's unlocked. There's plenty of posts in the Dev section of this forum to help you with that.

Do any of these actually work in infrastructure mode? or is it all ad-hoc still?
hi all, I'm from TURKEY, I have droid dna verizon, stock rom using.
1. hotspot not working.
2. I want to update but update only the active mode CDMA.
What should I do.
I'm pretty sure the built in hotspot only works on Verizon.
And since your not in Verizon, the easiest way to update is probably going to be to root your phone then flash a updated rom.

I rooted device,
yesterday flashed custom rom, but this time wifi not working.
which is the most stable rom?
So, I have used ARHD on my m7 for the longest time. Due to AT&T having an awful VVM app I reluctantly used YouMail. Having seen the AT&T new VVM app, I'm hoping to get it working on my m8 with ARHD. I don't know if any of the devs in this corner of the woods have some insight or not. I have installed the att_vvm.apk and it shows its installed, but no icon appears.

It seems the AT&T and WWE versions of messages are the same. That is of course if you were referring to the Messages.apk
Since I have no way to launch the VVM logcat is pretty much worthless to me right now as well.
Still no dice. Logcat only shows a few things about the att vvm app, no errors though. Not sure how to track down any more info.
Well I restores back to a stock rom to investigate, and it is definitely tied to the Messages.apk, if i freeze it in Titanium VVM also disappears.
Can someone please upload the messages.apk from the AT&T ROM?

Stock Messages app.

There must be another dependency outside of Messages.apk and ATT_VVM3.apk. I just wasn't sure where to look. Maybe as deep as SystemUI.apk?

Despite being the old/different version, this actually says it is incompatible with my M8, not happening for anyone else? (Im runngin ARHD 3.1)
I'm on ARHD 3.0 and the market version works, but must be connected to gsm at activation.

That's why. ARHD is based on the international firmware. Your phone isn't recognized at being AT&T so the Play Store won't let you download it. For me, I had a Titanium Backup of VVM that I just restored. I'm not sure how you could get it. Maybe a build.prop edit or something probably. Someone else may chime in.
Still the proper goal is to get the HTC version of VVM running on WWE roms. It is much cleaner looking and is integrated into the phone app itself.
I don't want to bother Mike with such an unrelated task, but I know there are many ARHD users on AT&T.
I don't know how to track down dependencies so my only way to contribute is to blindly flash apk's from AT&T over ARHD until it starts working.
This is really bugging me trying to get this to work lol
I have two days off soon. I will spend some more time trying to get it working. Specially since we have system rw it should be a simpler process.

There's a specific ISIS xposed module in the downloads section. Like said before Wanam is a Samsung thing. There's similar modules that can do some of the same things ie Sense 6 Toolbox.

Oh it sends data....and correct nobody knows what exactly its sending, but to each their own,I got rid of it all together anyway....and still retained at&t functions to my liking...shrugs
Hi everyone,
I have used the forums in the past to root my old s3 and before that to root/add a custom rom to an old HTC Aria so I do have a little experience with modifying phones. I recently got the HTC m8 (att version) and was holding off on doing anything to it until the EPS got added. Since the update today, EPS is currently live on my phone. How would I go about rooting it now? I saw a post about the old root methods, but will they still work with the new update? I basically want to root my phone so that I can uninstall any bloatware. I know I can disable it but would prefer to get it off completely. On my s3 I also used an app to prevent certain apps that I periodically used from automatically starting up. Would rooting be my best option? I have read up a little on the S-off, and I don't believe I need to do this to uninstall bloatware, but please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks in advance for any advice.
You may just wanna boot loader unlock and flash twrp first in order to keep that full stock image. So once you start uninstalling things you don't run into trouble. Also it's the easiest method to root (after fastboot flashing twrp 2.7.0.2, you can flash supersu 1.94 via recovery and your good to go. Stock backup with root

Old root methods worked for me, so unlocking the boot loader, flashing TWRP, then flashing supersu will work.

If you're already S-Off, then the update can't do anything about it.
If you're S-On, and firewater was patched in the update, then you shouldn't be able to S-Off (unless another exploit is found). Thing is, I don't think anyone who's S-On has updated yet to test firewater. I will when I get my replacement, but I won't have that for days.

SWEET! Looks like AT&T was either too lazy or didn't have enough time to have HTC patch it (betting on former), either way we still have the ability to S-Off.
Guess I'll be able to give another confirmation in a few days.

Why not s-off before updating? As you already said, this is always going to be the safer route.

With my luck, I'll somehow get the one M8 that was updated prior to shipping.
If it's not updated, I'll definitely S-Off before that, but I was also wondering for people who get M8s with 1.58.502.1 on the phone from the factory.

Yep, I was also able to
Some people are having issues with the OTA update after they S-OFF. About 30-40% through the update process, their phone freezes with a red exclamation point on the screen. Then again, it works for others, so I'm not really sure what's causing the issue.
