Define hard reset but unless you made a Nandroid backup, no

Not if you factory reset in stock recovery. You wouldn't of had a nandroid option. I'm afraid your up a Creek without a paddle. Other words no.

There are a ton of recovery software companies claiming that you can do this with their particular software they are pitching, but most charge for the promise.
If a well known name in the data recovery software business (like Phoenix, among other) offers something, give it a shot.
Seems like it could work similarly to other such processes, but I'd take my time before spending the money.

Help - Not sure what happened?

Hey guys, so i am new here, and new to the whole flashing...i have a SGN I717, that i left for my cousin to use while i was away (it was unlocked to work with mobilicity here in Toronto). Not sure what he did or tried to the phone, however when i got back it's just not working properly, it randomly freezes, and i keep getting messages, when i open apps; for example:
- when i open the camera i get a message saying "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
- when i open my contact list, there is a delay for about 10 seconds, then the window will close and i will get the same the process androind.process.acore has stopped unexpected...
And randomly on the home screen this message will pop up: " The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
Below all of these messages will be the option to force close...
Also for some reason it no longer recognises or works with my mobilicity sim.
Any help is hugely appreciated, i really need to get my phone working, now that i am back.
I have no idea what happened, can someone kindly walk me thru, what i need to do here.
Thanks a million in advance.
Have you tried a factory reset on it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Going to try that now...
Not sure if this will help; but i checked under the about phone tab, and the android version is 2.3.6, the baseband version T989UVKL1, Kernel version 2.6.35.11, and build number is GINGERBREAD.UCLA1
Also, if i do a factory reset would that undo the "unlocking" (for lack of a better word) that allowed it to work on mobilicity?
Do you remember what those fields said when you have it to him? Also was it rooted or was it stock aside from unlocking?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
No unfortunately i can't recall what they said before i left it with him.
As far as i recall, it was stock, it was unlocked, and i believe the guy did something in terms of the AWS antenna to get it to work with the mobilicity network
I'm on AT&T but from what I'm seeing online it looks like your baseband and stuff is right.. Im guessing he probably deleted something he shouldn't have hence all your errors.. Do you have superuser or ROM manager in your app drawer?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Yup under my applications tab i am seeing a few things that weren't there before; there is Quick Boot, ROM Manager (when i opened this app if said: You must root your phone for ROM manager to function. Superuser was not found...), and there is also another app Titanium backup, that i don't being there when i last used the phone. Besides those three apps, i think everything else was there before.
Ok before you factory reset goto the market and download superuser(just the free one) and an app called root check.. Let's make your sure you still have root..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Tried downloading superuser..got an error : "Superuser could not be downloaded due to an error (492)"
And basically the same thing for root checker
Ok.. Well after some more reading you had to have root to install the radio after you had it unlocked.. Point is resetting it won't delete root worse comes to worse you may have to reflash the radio..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
So go ahead with the factory reset? And then i would have to reflash the radio?
Forgive what i imagine is a very noobish question...but how would i go about reflashing the radio?
I wouldn't reflash the radio unless you don't get any reception.. If it comes to that I'll tell you but just try the reset for now and see if that gets rid of all the force closes....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Ok, just went ahead with the reset, will let you know when it's done.
Thanks so much
Is it supposed to take this long...its been going for more than 5 mins, and during the reset process, i continue getting the force close messages
The phone is still on? It hasn't cycled off and back on yet?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Ammm something is wrong here, its still on, saying Performing factory reset
what's on the screen?

[Q] Avoiding/resetting the TMo flash counter?

Is there any way that maybe I've missed to either a) root the TMo GS3 without triggering the counter (I saw methods for AT&T and others) or b) reset the counter after triggering it? I've searched and searched without finding anything. Is there anything out there or would it be fairly simple to create something? I'm willing to get my hands dirty to create this if somebody is able to help me through he process.
Are the methods AT&T users use reproducible for us?
Bump
I'm looking for a way too. Havent rooted yet till I find a way. I have 30 days to try out Tmo through costco but I want to root so I can restore my apps+ data back via titanium.

Costco is the best! Great prices on phones too! There will be a way to reset it eventually. That is my GUESS.
Okay, I've found the process for creating the proper files so this can be done. It'll just be a specific Odin file, slightly tweaked from a stock Odin file.
I've never tried this before although it seems to be fairly standard with Galaxy devices. I don't believe ANYBODY has ever tried this on a T999 before.
I'm thinking I'll have something to test with this weekend. Anybody interested in helping me to test this? If you do, you do so knowing that this may
1) trigger your counter anyways, and
2) brick your phone into oblivion and make it blow up and kill your dog
If anybody's willing to take the plunge, I'll chime back in later to coordinate the testing. I need others to risk triggering their counter as I have 1 and only 1 device with the counter still at 0 and I want to personally see it successfully in action before I publicly release it. But if I miss something and trigger my counter, then I'll never be able to test it again until we find a way to reset the counter.
Thanks for taking the initiative. Hope you get successful results.

Anybody else interested in helping test? Remember, I'm probably going to brick your phone and make it turn into a Decepticon where it'll kill your goldfish. And more realistically, if I mess it up, it'll probably be a soft-brick that will require a stock Odin flash and/or it'll trigger your flash counter.
So I'm mostly finished creating the file for this but I'm stopping. mrRobinson beat me to it, and apparently did so last night!

[General question/though] softbrick phone made in china hope Entropy enlightens us

First Let me say everything Here is all my personal Opinion and by just rooting phones and installing mod I already sorta voided my warranty. Okay Lets start, A few months when the ICS bug was Hot Like fish grease my phone's USB was corroded and would not charge. I went to a ATT Repair center and Got a new one/refurbish one and I notice that it didn't have much under the battery All it said was the Model number IME barcode and the "MADE IN CHINA" Letters.
I came home and the first thing I did was root install GB custom rom. I decided to wait for CM9 to taste ICS. After it was On nightly I install like any other installation and then move on to AOKP Rom from task, That rom has the feature that lets you change the text where you carrier label is. And I change which was fine. I went back to CM9 and that text Remain there and I did wipe/data like it said in the instructions, When I updated to the latest nightly I use Rom manager and booted into CMW (noob mistake) I wasn't paying attention and I got a soft brick. phone booted and showed SAMSUNG GALAXY SII but then just turn off and on buttons on bottom lit up like when you put your phone into download mode. I pull battery Use method to return to stock/root Using Odin Which if I'm correct it would have increase my counter (Correct me if I'm wrong) phone work Install a kernel with CMW using terminal install CM9 And even when I did those steps the same text That I had use was still There.
I found that very Weird but I still left it I didn't care. When the Leak ATT ICS came out Entropy said something about Bricking your phone something to do with the eMMC chip or whatever, Anyways Fast forward to lastnight/today I wanted to start from scratch and install a Samsung base rom just for giggles. And to my surprise I wipe my SD card and tried to wipe my phone but in the whole process my phone lag and I guess I press the button to wipe so many times I pull battery and guess what happen?... I got a soft brick again, Okay spend 30 mins again to redo my regular soft brick steps and my media scanner, Gallery, Camera didn't work. I then again wipe the phone and loaded semi v16c UCLE5 att update and my phone work again I formatted my sd card and my gallery camera started working again. But again the Carrier text from The very first AOKP rom Was still there in the lock screen.'
I again wipe and soft brick but this time to test out if it really does happen when You wipe from phone. Which it did happen and again repeated my steps. I guess I would like entropy or someone with more knowledge than me help me answer these mind boggling questions.
1. Is it possible my phone is sorta unique of the soft brick/wipe phone routine?
2. I downloaded the app from chain fire that detects if your emmc chip is one of the unlucky ones who have the bug or whatever and I do have the chip
3.How is it possible That the carrier label text is still there after so many wipes and rom flashes
4. I pretty sure I have not done anything to the boot loaders unless the roms I flash has them (which I think they don't)
I hope I explain my situation good. Again this is not a rant or troll or a customer support tread I clearly Understand the dangers of flashing and rooting Thanks for reading
p.s remove the picture because apparently my screenshot is offensive
Well that was a mouthful. LOL.

1. You use rom manager
2. You use the factory reset in settings
3. You pull the battery in the middle of flashes
Why are you using Odin when you have cwm? Are you not making nandroids before flashing? Do you know how to boot to recovery from a boot loop?
I suggest you read a whole lot more about flashing and recovery before you do anymore. Because a lot of what you posted sounds like it could've been avoided had you followed any of the guides.post on xda

When using a custom ROM. If you are using what came with the phone or is updated officially via ATT then you may use it without issue.
OK . First, don't use rom manager. As already stated. And second, make sure to do FULL wipes between flashing different roms. This includes /system, data, cache, dalvik, and running the kernel cleaning script for good measure. That should always leave u with a fresh install.

Aaaaand that's why you don't flash anything that's not made specifically for your phone, unless you know it's compatible. Sorry for your loss though. Can you get into download mode? Guess it's too late now, if you already sent it back, but I'm sure you tried to Odin back to stock..

Kinda like me I still use my S3 as a backup phone for streaming music on Wi-Fi/hotspot, playing games, hooking it up to my tv, and flashing ROM's when I get an itch, and don't feel like changing my current Note setup. I really like the Galaxy Mod ROM for the S3 mainly because it has Multiwindow, which I can no longer live without!

So, you flashed a Note 2 kernel that is for an Exynos SoC to the SGS3, which is a Qualcomm SoC? I'm not sure why anyone would even think to try this in the first place, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to warn everyone. Also, this is exactly the reason VZW locks the bootloader, because people do things like this and then get warranty replacements.
As for fixing it, you should be able to, but you likely need a USB jig to force it into download mode, then a full Odin tar plus a PIT file so you can re-partition properly.
Exactly what imnuts said. People sending their phones back for warranty replacement due to mistakes THEY made themselves is exactly why verizon is locking bootloaders and why rooting voids your warranty. If people took responsibility for their own actions, the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for the consequences.
Should change the title to I bricked my phone by flashing a kernel that was not made for my phone. The kernel did not brick your phone you did by making a really bad decision.
This thread is bad and you should feel bad, too.

This may be the most ridiculous thread I've seen in a long time. But only the fact instead of paying for his mistake he thinks some how is Samsung responsibly, but how completely ridiculous he was to knowingly flash a note 2 kernel on a s3.
op why do you think there are different sub forums for phones and even carriers. You're probably one of the people who flashed an international ROM too. ...Then sent your hard bricked phone in for warranty

Bypassing pattern screen lock

Hey guys,
I have a device which i need to unlock (screen pattern lock).
I have no details regarding it's google account/PIN or any other method that allows unlocking it without using the pattern.
I tried downloading aroma file manager that allows access to the password file and delete it, but when i tried to install the aroma manager (through recovery, from an sd card) i keep getting these errors:
e: footer is wrong
e: signature verification failed
is there any way to solve this?
i can't access the device, so i can't enable debugging mode and things like that...is there any solution, besides wiping everything back to factory settings?
thanks!

The local authorities are always useless.
The only way to bypass is with a nowipe tar. If you don't know what that is it's probably too much of a PITA to attempt.
