Mhl is the easiest.
Have you got Cwm installed? You could do a nandroid using vol up/down keys.

I actually laughed at this. Is that a NZ word for mouse or just your own way of writing it?

You can see everything? Get a USB OTG and connect a regular USB mouse/mosse and off you go! It's plug and play, so no need to change any settings using the touch screen.

Use the original charger, DONT use a generic one..
Same goes for the cable ! [ if you charge it using your PC ]
i remember reading something in TFM that said capacitive sensoring doesn't work well when the phone's being charged

My mates stock S2 works perfectly fine using my cable when connected.
So not that I'm afraid
my s2 out of the box didn't work all the time while charging, and when it did, it wasn't very responsive.
this is from the manual: "while the device is charging, the touch screen may not function due to an unstable power supply"
had the same problem, bought a new samsung charger and problem fixed

Dropped s3 on carpet, screen smashed, touch screen not working

It fell on it's corner and I just knew to expect the worst!
Anyway,
1) Is there anyway I can perform a titanium backup of what is on there at the moment? I want to (if possible) restore everything to my backup android phone
2) If not, can I retrieve an existing titanium backup off there? It might not have everything, but better than nothing
3) The phone is insured for accidental damage, so I need to get it back to factory. Should I just enter download mode, flash a stock ROM via odin, and send in to the insurer?
Thanks
If you have a USB host adapter, you can plug an USB mouse to the phone and use the mouse to operate Titanium Backup to do all your backups, which you can copy over to the PC using a regular USB cable.
A bluetooth mouse also works, and in either case the mouse replaces perfectly the touchscreen.
On CARPET and this happened?
Wow!
Dropped both my SII and my old HD2 on concrete and ceramic tile. No damage at all.

Yes, I use one just like that.
Thanks. It's kinda difficult to see the phone screen though because of the smash, is there anyway I can emulate the phone screen onto my computer monitor so that I can see the whole thing?

Like this? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.onaips.vnc
Any VNC server on Play Store might do the job, but they require your phone to be rooted beforehand, and you need to have at least some visibility (even if very limited) of the screen to setup the VNC server. Afterwards you don't even need to look at the screen and you can control everything through the computer.
For a VNC client, there are literally thousands of them free, and the choice depends on your operating system.
Ok now it seems I get no image at all on the screen. It's compltely blank
I was thinking of using a mhl adapter... but then I won't be able to plug the mouse in to navigate
The insurer might not care tbh not worth the risk tho.. You could adb into the device and transfer the sdcard over? The. Flash the new rom via odin..
Ps I'm sure there is a way to use otg cable with mhl

My USB port has gone bad.

I think, the USB port on my Samsung Vibrant has gone bad. I can't charge the phone nor get a USB connection. Any suggestions to fix it?
Thanks
Sada

I tried to fix the port. Now it is charging the phone. However, the USB connection to PC is not working. Also, for some reason, the Navigation buttons at the bottom are not working. I have now enabled the soft navigation keys. I am trying to see how I could fix all of the issues.
Just make sure you didn't snap something and crack the board ,those software keys are super sensitive but glass you fixed the port at least. By chance do you have a BlackBerry USB cable they work the best also try and reinstall the drivers ...use the plug from the back of PC not the front

you mean reinstall the USB drivers on the PC? I am currently using Mint with my phone. I could try the backport of a PC too, Will try that. Another thing I noticed is that the mic is not working either.

It makes sense to Bring the phone to a service center. MicroUSB jack can be easily bought, and you replace it. As for the microphone, and the navigation buttons - possibly depart contacts, or you hurt them. Demolition of the service center, let's look at why does not work. It is wiser than trying to yourself and damage the phone.

Pretty sure there is an xposed module for full screen HDMI. Look into it. I haven't used it myself.

I have also cracked my screen, display works but touch panel is broken. I was able to use an otg cable with the dongle from a wireless keyboard and mouse to control phone and pull backups from it. Everything mostly worked except scrolling with mouse, had to use up band down arrows on keyboard. Tried it with a powered USB hub hoping it would charge phone but it didn't want to work for me. When I get a chance I am going to pair it with a Rosewill Bluetooth keyboard that doesn't require a dongle and has a touchpad, if that works I'll set up a Chromecast for a playing media to TV. Using the Rosewill keyboard will leave micro USB open for charging.
