I have also cracked my screen, display works but touch panel is broken. I was able to use an otg cable with the dongle from a wireless keyboard and mouse to control phone and pull backups from it. Everything mostly worked except scrolling with mouse, had to use up band down arrows on keyboard. Tried it with a powered USB hub hoping it would charge phone but it didn't want to work for me. When I get a chance I am going to pair it with a Rosewill Bluetooth keyboard that doesn't require a dongle and has a touchpad, if that works I'll set up a Chromecast for a playing media to TV. Using the Rosewill keyboard will leave micro USB open for charging.

Hi!
My Galaxy S2 got beer damaged. Everything but touch-input works. Button works, screen looks brilliant, battery, charging, everything.
Any suggestions for what i could use my phone for?
Is it possible to use it as an extra laptop-monitor via usb/wifi/bluetooth/(HDMI-in??)?
Is it possible, with some PC-software, to control the phone through USB?
Is it possible, without the touch working, to install a firmware-version that allows me to use both keyboard+mouse through USB-host-mode, and is the keyboard/mouse active already from the first android-welcome screen, or should it be activated by touch?
It is SO annoying to have a brilliant tiny computer, with a brilliant display, but no way of controlling it.
Buy a new digitalizer of eBay and fix it

But how can i be sure theres nothing wrong with the digitalizer-receiver-part of the mainboard?
And i might get a new S2 for free from assurance, so this is more like a general question. Any possible alternative usage of a brilliant Android-handset without touch-input working.
Btw: The "Back"- and "Menu"-touchbuttons work. Are they not part of the digitalizer?
You can buy one of those USB OnTheGo cables from eBay, plug in a mouse and control it as if it's a PC.

Mouse should work with USB-OTG-Adapter.
After you've got that running you could install android vnc server to control it wirelessly via PC.
Also you could use a powered hub, put some massive USB harddrive on it and you got ourself a low-power linux-server
Connect to wifi, connect to TV, pair with a Bluetooth mouse and use as a laptop, movie player etc over TV.

Hello,
My Atrix 4G has has no touchscreen. I don't feel like buying a new digitizer and replacing it. I would like to use my Atrix as a media center only connected to my TV. Is it possible for me to set it up to run without a digitizer/touchscreen and only use with my TV and a wireless mouse/keyboard?
Thanks
Jon

Yes, it's possible. Just plug the cellphone and the keyboard / mouse to the dock (in case they work via USB dongle / not bluetooth) and it's set to work the way you want.

That's great to know. Is it possible to plug a usb mouse/keyboard directly into the body of the Atrix with a micro usb adapter and get around Android without a touchscreen?
Thanks for your help,

Unfortunately, that's not possible. The usual microUSB / female USB cables, as used with a lot of other smartphones, doesn't work with the atrix, our phone needs an external power outlet to be able to work with USB devices. You can either use the multimedia Dock or a 'custom' cable, I saw some time ago in youtube a tutorial teaching how to make a custom one, or maybe you can find it in ebay (not sure, never looked for it, to be sincere).

the cable you are talking about is called udb otg ( on the go), switch the phone's usb port into host mode.. only drawback is that atrix can't supply power to the usb, you must use an external power source for the devicr attached

I managed to use my atrix with the lapdock for around a month while I sourced a new digitizer and it worked great. I would recommend that you find a work and play kit second hand as I often use the webtop for watching on-demand tv and someone is working on a full resolution xbmc port that would work great with the remote. You might also be able to use the usb host ports to mount a fat32 hd as a media drive. The atrix can work really well without its digitizer.

I too am interested in this as I have an Atrix 4G with a broken screen. I was thinking about buying a device like the Roku or the MK802. I guess I could just get the Motorola Entertainment Center from Amazon.
Is there a ROM that would be best for the purpose of using the Atrix as a TV only device.
I posted a tutorial in general for using hdmi and tablet mode with the backlight for the digitizer off. This might give you ideas for using the hdmi port with or without your favorite hdmi enabled Moto dock.

What are some options to hook the phone to a TV.? HDMI RCA ...???
Hdmi mhl adapter. Make sure it's one with a power source made for note 2 or sgs3.
I have the official Samsung Smart Dock and a HDMI cable. I just put the phone on the dock and connect the HDMI from the dock to the TV and get instant display

Well, I got it for 75 dollars but it was originally 100. I'd say if you use the phone for multi-media purposes (watch movies on standard TV), then get it. But I wouldn't just buy if you want to dock/charge it and nothing else. Personally, I use my dock to make my Note 2 a giant PC. I connect my mouse and keyboard to the USB slots on the dock and connect the dock to the TV so I can browse the internet and what not on a bigger screen. That to me is worth the money. You should get it! It does a lot!

Ah yes. That is exactly what i'd be doing is a pc like setup. I had a similar setup back in the early bionic days but that phone just didn't have the hardware to double as a desktop. Thinking the n2 will bring what it was missing. Appreciate the feedback!

You don't need a setting, you just plug it in/hook it up and after selecting the correct input on the TV it works automatically.
I have a little problem. I wonder if I can get some help. When my phone is connected to the dock the edges Getty cut off from ask sides. I have changed the ratio of my tv but nothing happens. Any work around to bet the screen to fit perfectly?

I have a setting on my TV that changes the mode to PC or TV, check and see if your TV has that. It fixes my issues with the screen being cut off.

Get the Smart Dock... I got it for half off from Samsung. Worth it for that.
If you want to try to get it for $50, let me know. I'm not promising anything, but I think you should be able to get it as well.

I have been using the MHL adapter that was purchased directly from Samsung for the Note 2. Oddly enough, since day 1 of me owning it, I have had the edges of the screen cut off from the display. I've checked every setting on my tv and nothing has fixed it.
Now here's the interesting part, every other phone I have tried to troubleshoot this issue with, (two sgs3's, an sgs4, I haven't found another note 2 to try it with) has worked perfectly, without changing any TV settings, and without the edges being cut off. So with that being said, I've been trying to figure out why my Note 2 is the only one that has this problem, to no avail.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I wouldn't know why only the note ii is doing that. With my note ii on different monitors or tvs (either) there is definitely variation in display. Some tvs you can't change the scan settings and will be stuck with the picture as is ( as far as I know-probably worth researching). Some you can change the setting and your all good or some monitors will display the whole image properly. Thats just my experience. I too would be Iinclined to have a more technical explination... i just havent sought one yet.
i have pc settings but since i dont have anything connected there i cant change them. i have tried it in 3 different tvs and played with the settings but nothing seems to work. i got to admit. its no big deal but in really bothers me for some reason. especially when it comes to the multi window tab...

If you're using touchwiz, you can use miracast too. I picked up a Samsung allshare box from best buy for $100 and it works for me, though others have had problems.

You can see everything? Get a USB OTG and connect a regular USB mouse/mosse and off you go! It's plug and play, so no need to change any settings using the touch screen.
Does anyone know if the ROG phone supports this? I want to use the phone in desktop mode, but $230 for the dock sounds insane when there are alternatives for $40. In other words, do generic dongles work for video output or do we need to buy Asus brand?

Well, it did until I updated the fan firmware.. right now I'm not sure if any HDMI/DP Alternative solution works (including their own) but hopefully they'll fix this soon.. I'm writing an email to asus support about right now.
You can use any of your choice, but just do know they all only do screen mirroring (even the offical Asus ROG ones) so you will be getting a small screen experience just on a larger screen really, so everything will be pretty blown up big style just so you know. The ONLY feature you don't get with unofficial devices is the lack of the keymapper option (that is until someone finds a way to mod/hack/activate that feature hidden from us all), so if you don't care for that then you are good to go with whatever you choose.
Not working
No, it's not working properly. I tried with the Lenovo-USB-C-Dock and two USB-C-Hubs from Aukey.
Asus implemented the DP-Alternate-Mode not correctly, it's not telling the Monitor the Refresh-Rate which leads to weird screen-flickering if ur using an 144Hz-Monitor...
The Keymapping-function keeps hidden and the Phone will not lock into landscape mode. Their own Strix-Fusion-Headset is also not working via USB.
Mathias
I don't think any higher then 90hz refresh rate monitors will work, as I have tried a 90hz free sync (or was it gsync?) Monitor and the sync mode was active too.
Of course the key mapping will stay hidden as their not the official Asus ROG accessory plugged in when having a 3rd party connected with kb+m.
I dunno about your headphones as I don't use the same but I'm using a wireless Sony Pulse 7.1 headset via its wireless signal dongle just fine.
What firmware are you on and which version do you own CN or WW?
So a USB C to display port will work?

Have you got a link to the cable you were using please?
Is there a cheap dongle available?
Update to my original reply; I did get it to work with a cheap USB-C dongle but I had to remove and re-attach the USB-C power first ( and sometimes the HDMI cable )
.. currently my phone is on service however since a couple of weeks.. and it looks like I managed to be the first to break the screen on this phone in Sweden so nobody knows how to repair it =)
