[Answered] Different Razr versions..? [Yes, Razr V is DIFFERENT than Razr...] - Motorola Droid RAZR

This is likely the most obvious thing to Razr users, but I just picked up a Razr V XT886 today and am trying to figure out what I can do with it. I've already got it rooted (yay!) but now I'm trying to figure out if all the ROMs and Recoveries that are posted for the XT910 and 912 are compatible with the XT886 (and similar) or are they all very different phones?
Thank god for this Q&A forum xD
Thanks!

Yes, it is

Those are three different phones. The Razr XT910 e XT912 are almost the same phone, except one is US branded (XT912 - CMDA) and the XT910 is International (GSM) beside this they are the same phone, even though they're different and things meant to one sometimes work on the other, sometimes don't. The Razr V has a completely different chipset from these other two, which makes it a completely different phone from these other 2, so I believe you are on the way the brick your phone if try something that isn't specifically meant to it.
I hope it helped...

So is this the first step in getting an sbf?
This isn't absolutely related to SBFs, FXZs and anything else.
Anyway, good find! I can start to work to EternityProject Kernel for Motorola RAZR now :°)
Pity is that it will be flashable only when ICS will be out!

No, this is the DROID RAZR's. Unless they're running the same thing (which...I guess could be possible, outside of the radio-related stuff), no.

board-mapphone.c:char *bp_model = "CDMA";
board-mapphone-spi.c: char *cpcap_bp_model = "CDMA"
Just a guess 'cause I didn't have time to check better:
cpcap_bp_model and bp_model should be changed to GSM or it shouldn't be changed at all. The userspace radio layer is in Android ROM and since our MDM6600 (same for DROID RAZR and RAZR) is able to work both in CDMA and GSM mode, the kernel code should be the same. CDMA as bp_model can be only for reference or for changing operational mode in the BP kernel driver.
The kernel should be exactly the same, the only unsure thing is the radio driver, anyway, in case GSM RAZR kernel will be released "too late" we can use this on the GSM RAZR relatively easily. We need in any case the unlocked bootloader for testing what I'm saying but I expect to have the RAZR (GSM) kernel prior that to happen.

That's true, but wouldn't it be wasted work since ICS would entail a new kernel from Moto to start over on anyway?
You don't really expect to see official ICS on the Razr anytime soon, do you? And yes, I know what Motorola told. I also know what they used to tell in the past.
but will this at least allow customs roms like like liberty 3 or cm7??

not yet, they aren't!
are you aware that they also said that ICS was already ready when the source came out? all they have to do is finish testing it and push it out. early 2012 is very reasonable.

[Q] Raising the same question again!!! LTE on XT910?????

Sorry to ask the same question once again, but , I am just curious...
since the XT912(Verizon) and XT910 has the same hardware and chipset, I can be pretty sure they have the same radio.
Is it possible for anyone to say, whether we can activate the LTE functionality in the XT910...(maybe a custom baseband SW) or something..
I'm going to attempt to flash the GSM radio into my XT912. Everything I've also read says that the chipset should allow for GSM access, just carrier locked by Verizon.
This article has been referenced a few times about the inability to use AT&T and Verizon LTE devices on each others networks:http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388526,00.asp
I'll let you know if a radio from a GSM SBF or GSM Rom works on this though!
Thanks mate!!!
This is a good experiment. Waiting to see.

Hi,
Can anyone help me by posting the baseband SW of the XT912....
Help me a lot for my experiment..
I flashed the GSM radio image on my XT912 through RSD... Everything looked normal, RSD said it processed image 1 of 1, then the phone rebooted, came back up and was still on the CDMA Baseband image... Not sure exactly what happened but I was just happy it didn't brick it!
My phone is currently useless to me anyway since I'm in the Philippines. Willing to try flashing/testing whatever a developer would like to have me test at this point in time. Need to have GSM radio activated/enabled so I can use this phone... That's the bottom line I guess...

After flashing the radio, di dyou change baseband?
Let me know whether changing the baseband solves your problem, then I might try to do the inverse thing...
How do you change baseband? I'll try it if someone can tell me where/how to do it...
I have the xt910 in Canada with no LTE but the network supports LTE. I am extremely excited to see how your experiment works.
Did you ever get this to work?
Yes, I'm still very interested in this if anyone has further details. This thread is very similar, but goes the other way (enabling GSM on the CDMA/LTE devices).
This does not work and cannot be made to work. There is another additional LTE radio chip in the XT912 that is not there on XT910. They are not the same hardware, despite being very similar.

Source? I've heard claims from both sides of this argument on XDA (some say it has the LTE radio, some say it does not).
I have yet to find a teardown of the XT910, I can only find pictures of the XT912 internals. I understand that there's a possibility that Motorola didn't put the LTE radio in the XT910, but again, I have yet to see a definitive source claiming so (i.e. pictures - and again, can only find pictures of the XT912 internals...).
I noticed that Rogers advertises the xt910 as being a LTE device. False advertising?

I dont think the XT910 has any CDMA radios at all. But lets see.
The Korean XT910k has LTE according to motorola website
But it also cannot flash normal razr fastboot files and roms....
same with the latin razrs also cant flash normal xt910 roms, and it has the lte radio....
Maybe there is a link in this?
Any Latin razr users flashed the XT912 fastboot before?

Pedro, I flashed the LATAM ICS ROM to my XT910, and while it shows the option in the Phone Menu, the LTE option won't stay selected. It keeps reverting back to GSM.
I'm interested to see if someone successfully flashed a new radio file to activate the LTE on the XT910, or if this is a hardware issue, being that the hardware for LTE simply isn't inside the XT910.

I think not, much radio in system.
Indeed, both are CDMA, and more specifically both are the same model. Milestone is the name given to Droid phones in Europe, because Motorola hasn't acquired the rights to use the word "Droid" from LucasArts outside of the US.
That doesn't make much sense, considering I'm in america and got an MX2 from my provider...
NVM- looks like it's specifically a verizon / lucasarts issue.

Theoretically it sounds like it could be feasible, but it's a bit more complicated. They don't use the exact same android OS as us despite it being the same hardware. I believe they actually have an sbf unique to just the milestone x2. Also, xda isn't just American, and the vast majority of any android mods show up on xda before anywhere else.
The dx2 is VERIZON, mx2 is any other company that puts out the mb870. Verizon can use the Droid name, not moto. Lucus Arts owns the Droid name and leases it to Verizon...
Everything is the same except mobile carrier apps.... The settings within the phone may be different but that's add far as it goes.... You can flash an ntelos sbf on a Verizon x2 and it WILL work.... But you won't be able to activate because of baseband and prl versions are not the same. But other than that it will work..... You can flash the ntelos sbf on a Verizon DX2, and you can take the phone to ntelos and they can activate the phone... make since?
Tapin' the Talk on the xSquared
Peperm1nt
You are not suggesting that someone flash netelos to a x2 are you as one could not return back to the vz sbf. Just a FWIW.
But could you take an SBF and change the baseband and what ever else you need to to get it activated on VZW then activate it?
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
No moding allowed. Sbf's are signed .
Oh
That sucks. Well could we SBF, then change the necessary stuff to get it activated on VZW, then do a nandroid and then we just have to SBF and do a nandroid to get it activated with an MX2 SBF?
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
It's risky . The sbf does something irreversible = brick. I plan to nand' to the 235 mx2 after backing up as much as qpst can. But all that is safe.
I pm'ed a big cheese in our moto hacking community and he did not think qpst or radiocomm could access the radio areas that only a sbf can access.

Well, yes I know you can use GSM on stock unlocked verizon's XT912 on ICS(or later), but the thing I really want to know is:
When it comes to choose a custom rom, using the cdma_spyder version, will stop my gsm working?
Will a umts_spyder version of the software brick the phone?
Actually I still can't understand the real differences between the two motherboards (I even read that putting a xt912's battery in a xt910, will make the phone think it's a MaXX)

XT912 & XT910 are same phone with same chipset TI OMAP 4430. Only difference in the two is while the prior is Global Phone ( all frequency support ) later is GSM Only ( and 2MP front cam vs 1.3MP ).
XT912 conversion to Maxx is completely different. XT910 & XT912 both have same battery 1780mAH while the Maxx has 3300mAH battery.
