Hi guys, so i bought an s3 last week and after 2 days of use i decided to upgrade to 4.3.
I installed Paranoid Android 4.0 beta 3 (latest) but now when i try to listen to music with the phone on my pocket (both with Shuttle+ and Google Play music) the audio isnt smooth, it cripples sometimes. Anyone has a fix?

Unfortunately, there is no fix yet. I sold my S3 yesterday due to audio stuttering. Try using n7player (for me caused less stuttering that winamp, stock samsung player, google music).
You can try using custom kernel or use an app like setcpu and increase your min frequency level to 400 rather than default 200 MHz....
For custom kernel I would suggest boeffla 2.2 stable for aosp based roms..
Install boeffla config v2 app from play store and you can change between governors and change the frequency as per your choice from this app itself...

Recently started using my Note for more than a e-reader and went a head a put some music on it.
Because I love music I downloaded JetAudio Pro so I'd have access to a equalizer, better playlist support, etc. However, upon installing it I've noticed that when playing music I get a "clicking" noise in all my music...I've tried different ROM's and even different versions of Jet to no avail.
Also, on every ROM I've tried the official "Music" app either crashes, freezes, or won't play my music at all.
Just a bunch of problems I can't seem to find answers or fixes for. If anyone has advice I'd appreciate it!
OK...better question yet...does anyone USE JetAudio? And if so do you have issues with it? Happens with both the free version (that you can download and test yourself for me ) and the paid version as well.
I don't know if its a software issue or a hardware one either as the default Android Music app fails to work as well...
Sup, i use jetaudio pro, and i notice that clicking sound too, but when i use another player there is no sound problem! Maybe a bug in jetaudio, who knows.... oh! I'm rooted with stock ics on rogers.

Hmmm...if it is a software issue they need to get it fixed! Been long enough now to smooth this kind of stuff out in my opinion.
Well good to know I'm not the only one with issues.
I'm using LiquidSmooth RC5 Jelly Bean. No cell service, just as a phablet.
jetAudio bug
Hi! I have this problem too. The situation is the following:
1. jetAudio is working fine on the original ROM. Everything is working fine. (Sense, HTC One V).
2. I installed CyanogenMod 10 to my phone. JetAudio playing a lot of songs with the "clicking" sounds. The Apollo player plays my music without problems. Winamp makes the "clicking" sounds too with the same songs, so I think this is an incompatibility issue (kernel or rom?).
Have anyone found solution to this problem? I am using Xperia arc with CM11 and i have same problem. After some minutes of smooth music i get clicking sound. It's very random.I have to FC it from apps setting and start it again to listen music properly.I am using jet audio pro as well.
My SGP4.2 is so ridiculously slow and choppy it borders on being unusable. It's two days old and 8 haven't filled it with anything. At first i thought it was defective, but after seeing some of the review vids, they all act the same. I've rooted mine and removed all of the stuff that samsung put on there (literally have less than one page of apps even with the music software I downloaded), use a different launcher with just a single pane with no widgets at all, deleted all google apps so there is no syncing in the background, and even switched over to a lighter browser and deleted the stock, it still runs like crap. Using poweramp playing 320kbps mp3's, the music skips if i'm browsing the web. There's a two second delay from when i type and the letters apperearing on the screen. That's all i do with this thing, music. Only need a browser to find new music. Its weird because its hardware specs are basically the same as the desire z and xperia play i also have, but they literally run circles around this thing. All on gingerbread too. Is it just a really crappy rom samsung threw on here? Anything i can do? Searched and searched but couldn't find a overclockable kernel or lighter rom. Can't even find a custom recovery so i can flash that adrenaline patch.
Which rom do you run?
Is it the latest? My web browser was choppy at the beginning, but it works fine after the update.

The latest one i guess. Says i'm up to date when i check manually. Its not just web browsing. Everything and everywhere throughout the entire device. Poweramp stutters like crazy. Winamp works much smoother, but poweramp works fine on an unrooted stock desire z. Strange. I may just swap this one out for another. Im thinking it craps out when reading/writing to flash memory. If the replacement has problems too, prpbably just going to get a sony f806.

he has a 4.2 there is ONLY the stock or stock rooted ROM to use.
OP, tegrak overclock or No-frills CPU tuner and see what kind of overclock you can pull, also under advance audio tweaks in poweramp increase the audio buffer size to Large (+250 ms).
you can try doing a complete factory reset.
I know, but mine became much smoother after the update. Just wanted to ask

Increased the buffer to huge (+750ms) and its stuttering less. Thanks. The kernel isn't compatible with tegrak or no-frills. Already looked at those options.
It works fine as a music player. And i got it for a good price. Just going to stick with it and hope a custom rom comes out sometime (or at least a recovery). The back is large enough for me to attach my fiio e11 so its all good. Thanks again.
About 1 month ago I flashed Sale's NeatRom v5.42 and the Apollo Regular Kernel . It was a great rom, mostly because of its smothness and the battry drain (it drains less than the half of my stock ROM I9100LSD). One week ago I thought "Why don't try KitKat?". So I flashed the latest AOSP NeatROM and the correct Apollo Kernel. I also like this ROM, but I have some issues considering music playing with my smartphone. I've tried three apps (Google PlayMusic, RocketPlayer and finally now Apollo), but they don't solve it.
Music playing drains a lot more batttery than before.
When acitivating the screen while listening to music, sometimes the sound stutters.
Randomly the music player app seems to hang when a new song starts. Only after a reboot can listen again to music.
The first two points are only peanuts, but the last point is really annoiying.
I assume the only way is reflashing a stock based ROM, isn't it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, the music player getting stuck is a known issue with KK roms for now, but its a random one.
U can try moving all ur music files on to ur Internal Sdcard (11.5gb one) and then try and also check the above with the stock kernel
Well, i have no external SD card (11,5 GB internal should be enough for my mp3's).
I've switch to the latest stock based NeatRom and stay there until this issue is resovled, but I miss the dashclock and DSP-Manager. Will this issue will be ever resolved? I cant't believe that bugs bugs are neglected in the develepment thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50067179&postcount=2379 ), but I'm now allowed to post there because of I've just registerd because of this issue. It would be great, if someone can make a statement that there are bugs. Either they should be fixed or the user should be informed that there are known issues with KitKat ROMs (that maybe cant't be resolved considering to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612329). I would suggest that a moderator make a sticky. I don't want to attack the developers for their hard and volenteer work, but make suggestions.
OT question: Is my assume right that stock based ROMs are the most reliable beacause they are best optimized for the hardware?
So enough questions and reproaches. I'm proud that so many developers care about our almost three years old device.
Hello.
I'm sorry if there is already a solution to this but I have not been able to find one or any posts that don't apply to a particular rom.
I have a re-occurring issue where music I am playing stutters and is glitchy.
This happens on any music player I use and it doesn't matter if the music is stored on the external SD card or the internal memory.
The actual MP3 tracks are fine and the stutters happen in different places in the tracks.
It's as if the phone doesn't have enough resources to play the music which I can't see being the case.
I have had this issue on the stock rom (4.1.2) when I got the phone and every rom I have tried since (CyanogenMod 11, CyanFox, Neatrom Stock and now Neatrom AOSP 4.9).
I am at a loss as to what is causing this and how to resolve it. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks.
I used to have these problems as well..
Since I have used this combination I've yet to encounter any issue with music severely stuttering:
- WanamLite 7.2
- Set min CPU to 300mhz
- Poweramp Music Player (Go to Settings-Audio-Advanced Tweaks.......Set Audio Buffer Size to "Huge +750ms" & Audio Thread Priority to "Highest")
NO MORE MUSIC LAG FOR ME!
Try a different governor.
I'm also experiencing audio stutters with specific governors (for example boeffla kernel - zzmoove yank battery extreme). if i switch it to standard pegasusq however, it works fine (most of the time) :good:
Even with the audio buffer at its maximum I still get the stuttering. I will try a different governed and see if that helps. Thanks.

hi,
i had the same Problems. and as jinosong mentioned a different governor helps !!
best for audio playback is ondemand, lulzactiveq or interactive depending on you rom.
the problem with pegasusq is that it locks core hotpluging while screen is of
to select one of the above mentioned governor only while needed (higher battery usage) i put an option to switch the govenor only while a2dp is playing in my tool "setxperia" version 2.04
maybe you like to check this out ->
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SetXperia.Inteks.org
same problem here
I have also the same problem. I listen to music most of the time and it stutters so often it becomes annoying to the extent i consider buying an mp3 player for it. I tried boeffla and yank kernel with various governors, though the frequency reduces but the stuttering still happens randomly. I searched the forums but found only change of governors as suggestion. I would like to know if any permanent fix is available, i am thinking of trying 4.1.2 to see if stuttering still persists though i don't like stock rom very much. If fix is available it would be helpful if someone post it here.
I have had stuttering with all the roms I have tried. 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2.
I am running Neatrom AOSP now with Boeffla kernel. Updated to v5 of Neatrom yesterday but not had chance to listen to music on my phone to see if the issue is still there. I will post back if it doesn't happen anymore.
I went back to stock 4.3 firmware and then updated it to latest firmware through samsung OTA update, now there is no stuttering in music play back. Two days of use i still didnt have any stuttering problems. From this I think, if you are using any custom rom, flashing stock kernel in custom roms may help solving it (Though its just a speculation based on the results).
When I was using Podcast players on MIUI roms there was a problem that the podcast never resumed from the last position.
This seems to be a mediatek problem combined with long audio files.
There is a workaround using Podcast Addict, where there is a setting to "fix mediatek resume", but this fix seems to only work on Android 5.1 + and since MIUI is based on Android 5.0 it does not work.
So my question is, does someone here listen on podcast while using MIUI?
If yes, do you have the "not resuming from last position problem"?

Yes, I use Beyondpod and have exactly the same problem, extremely annoying. I have managed to mitigate it a bit by moving my podcasts to internal memory, but it still happens.
Hello, I'm using Podcast Addict.
I have also issues with internal player resume. This is very annoying.
The only workaround way I found is to setup Podcast to use external player.
The one that works fine is : Puissance Music Player

Thanks for the info. Might switch back to MIUI to try.
FYI. Podcast addict works perfectly on every cm12 based ROMS, Currently I'm using it on RR.
Good news, I solved this problem with FM Player.

Now everything is working fine on MIUI Stable ROM.
I used to have this issue with pocket casts but since I changed from Global Official 7.2.3 to Xiaomi.eu Dev 6.5.19 problem went away.
