[Q] Droid x2 roms ect.. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

why am I having a problem finding cyanogenmod 9 or 10 downloads. Other down loads including these 2 are available in threads but when I click on the link it brings me to some ad I'm suppose to download for a product I'm not interested in. I searched for a very long time for cyanogenmod 9 and 10 and couldn't find the actual download. Same for liberty. cyanogenmod 7 is still available but the patch was very hard to find.

it is because the device is aging and so some links for downloads may not have been maintained and updated, the files may be gone from those initial upload sites.
your best chance would be to ask in the correlating thread(or Q/A or General forum for the device) if anyone still has the files that they could upload for you to use.
I recently cleaned house with my storage so I regret to say I cannot help you here, I used to have a DX2 though and was very active in that forum(s). I can say from first hand experience that the users in the DX2 forums are usually always VERY helpful and will even go out of their way to try and find the files for you as well.
don't be afraid to ask directly in the DX2 forums, maybe you will get lucky and one of the people from the forum or someone who USED to have device can get ya rolling!

I've done a comparison of the various ROM's

So since there's only about 5 or 6 custom ROM's at the moment I took the liberty of creating a quick site to compare the ROM's. I put them in a comparison table side-by-side, put a link to download them (off my own site [so this can be used as a mirror]) and put a link to my own personal thoughts/semi-informal review of each ROM and included screen-shots of the ROM (90% of it I took myself).
I wanted to share the link/site with you to see what you think. I'm going to try and stay on top of updates and such, and each page on the site has a way for you to leave a comment. So if you have any suggestions or problems, feel free to comment there (or here). Also, if you want to submit your own review, thoughts, suggestions, etc. the site has a way for you to post it and I can look it over and publish it. I'd love for this not to be a one man show. If you have extensive experience with one of the ROM's and want to throw in your own review, post it there and I'll make it live and link to it in the comparison table.
I know I'm going to get blasted, told how stupid and useless the site is, etc. etc. and I'm prepared for that, but maybe you could also include a quick note on why it's stupid, what I need to add, how better to improve it, etc. you know, constructive criticism. I do know it's ugly and using a crappy default skin, but I was more concerned on getting content in there right now vs the look and feel of the actual thing; I'll get around to it, eventually. Anyways, I'm only trying to help.

It seems really detailed and gives users a quick comparison on what roms are available and what they offer all in one shot. You didnt offer a score or say which one YOU liked best in hoped that the viewer will make up his/her own mind and try the roms for themselves... and because of this, I like your post!
One suggestion, I would have liked a few more screenshots of UnNamed.
However, this isnt a developmental thread (just a comparison chart) and it probably needs to go in general... and perhaps even stickied (as long as this list gets updated) or at least linked/referenced in the FAQ in the General forum.
Thanks
Thanks for the feedback Yeah I was wondering if it should go in this forum or the general one. I can re-post it there if you want and you can delete this thread, I'm far from a developer (but have great respect for those guys), just a power user. I do plan on staying on top of updates, with only 5 or so ROM's it's not that difficult at the moment).
I knew I was using 'stock' ROM images somewhere! I forgot to update the UnNamed review section with the screen captures I actually personally took. Done. 10 screen-shots.

Your idea is very good one but I was a bit disappointed because when I first
saw this new thread I was almost sure that you had a simular idea as I had.
I have spent countless hours of testing almost every aspect of ALL the
custom roms which are currently available for our phones including CM7.
So I was hoping when I first saw this new thread that that's what you had
in mind too and that you wrote a comprehensive comparison report of each
and every rom letting everyone know your opinion of the pro's and con's of
each.
It would not be that diffult to do since there are only five custom roms.
(P.S. The UnNamed custom rom is by far the very best and most error free, but please don't tell anyone I said so.)
Thread moved to the right board. Carry On!
did you click on the more info button at the bottom? I put a few personal observations and notes for each from and included screenshots, I plan to edit that regularly and update it with a more comprehensive review as I go along. I have installed each rom ( to get screenshots and initial impressions) including cm7, but will admit I have not spent a lot of time in each rom except for unnamed. I will be running serendipity for the next 24 hours or so, followed by cognition then followed by perception. if you have written comprehensive reviews on the roms and want to join forces I would more than welcome that.

Updated Serendipity to 8.1
Serendipity is at 8.1; added the file to the server, updated the Download link and included his changes in the table. It's all good.

[Q] Torrent collection

Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on putting together a collection of torrents for the ROM's and/or at least SBF's. Maybe some bundle's of frequently downloaded essentials too? I could see the developers/themers wanting to see stats and the like, so maybe I could incorporate bit.ly in some way. Anyway I'm willing to put some time into it if anyone wants more options for getting the files in the forum.
I also see a lot of stickies and just thought it would be nice to have one "Here's the files you need" post with links to the stickies explaining the actual process of using those files.
Basically does anyone like Torrents?
It almost sounds like you're trying to re-invent the wheel. Most of the files that people want are readily available here on the forum, the market, and hosted elsewhere and linked to on the forums.
You can view these right on your mobile device and install them directly. Why would you want to have to download and install a bit torrent client on your PC if you did not have to?
Just seems like extra work with no real efficient gain.
Yea pretty much, but I have never encountered so many links and limited bandwidth sites as on all the different android forums. Sometimes I like to just hit a link and be downloading instead of wait 30 seconds fill in anti-spam then finally wait a half hour to finish a 300 mb file.
I mean if everyones fine with that no harm no foul, just wondering if anyone else enjoyed the benefits of Bittorrent. The old links would still exist and I would probably include them next to the torrent link. If we weren't into options we wouldn't get so excited about new ROMs.
Also there's a lot of files you can't download/install directly to your phone such as sbf's, themeing apps/scripts, rooting tools, etc...
Edit: and I do understand not everyone wants to download a bittorrent app but some people already have one and almost all linux distro's come with a client, plus its a very useful and efficient way of obtaining files/folders
Id be down to help seed. I have a ten meg line and an old desktop dedicated for seeding and downloading since it's not good for much else.
Just hit me up with a link when you get the torrent together.

GNEX PORT of ICS to RAZR

Ok all this is what I just found over at another site... Since info on ROMS seems to be in short supply here.... I will offer this.... To my knowledge, this is the most current rom for the RAZR and/or Razor Maxx using ICS....from DroidTh3ory
Razr Operating Roms in order have been; RazrX, then RazrXv1.2, then Eclipse, then Ic3, then Axiom, and now this...wow...all of a sudden that report about ICS in research stage doesn't matter so much, I'm sure the camera will be available within the next month, and being that I use safestrap, a 5 minute swap to the stock rom with working camera for now is easy...amazed at the work everyone does, and feeling better than ever about choosing the Razr over the ReZound and GNex.
MOD Edit: Lets wait for original developers permission to share his work ok?

We really need to get past this point of bickering over posting sites. In the years i've been at XDA, this last year has been horrendous for this kind of stuff. Never in the past has this happened before. People freely posted links to anywhere where we could find a ROM or solution. Now there is unnecessary politics involved at every corner. XDA has no reason to be threatened by any razr site. Even if we all start using alternate razr sites, it will mean nothing to XDA. They are a huge site supporting hundreds of phones. I don't think the site cares if we users are getting information from another site.
Also, the fact that alternate sites have popped up is because of a dis-service from this site. XDA used to be a one stop shop for all versions of solutions and ROMS. Now i look here and see so little for the CMDA (USA Verizon) that i have to wonder what happened. this never used to happen. Were developers like DroidTheory insulted? Is there a benefit to choosing another site? I for one love both sites. But i'm sick of the animosity.

really? one guy posts a link to a very nice file and in the very next thread is a response that says he hopes the poster had permission to post the file here.
That's just not what i used to see here. oh well, it is what it is. It's the new rules, and perhaps I'm just a nostalgic person.
Well in the same reference, since i'm not comfortable with the rules, i'll just mention that i noticed on that same site that the KANG version of ICS 4.03 was just posted.
Downloading it now.
I try to go to every site and sign up for them all. Some things u can find on one site that u can't on another or may be better explained on one site then the other but if its a problem posting something on this site that's not already up here then I may abandoned this site. I guess I kinda abandoned it anyways do to the lack of cdma (USA Verizon) Roms and support. I have even discovered new sites that I didn't know of by people posting stuff from other sites but that don't mean I will never come back to check things out. Hell i was even told that a dev was gonna post his work on another site but keep coming back to here first to check for updates. In the famous words "can't we all just get along."

Ok, I am all in favor of sharing. But rules are rules.
Not all developers think alike, and not all of them like their work being shared without their explicit permissions. Besides, there is no real actual development by just sharing. So THREAD MOVED.
Either way, you do have to respect
Mandatory Thread Title Requirements For Development Section
THREAD CLOSED until the OP gets explicit permission from the original author to share his work here at XDA. When you get that, and the Dev is willing to share and support his work here, I will gladly reopen the thread.
Please understand that sharing what is not yours, is not fair for the original developer, that is why the rule exists, not for any other reason, as I said, I am in favor of sharing, but we do have to respect original developers wishes.

[Q] CM7 internal install on Nook 8GB tablet

I don t know if this question has come up before as I'm a new poster.
I have an Nook tablet 8gb that I rooted via the the NT 8 or 16GB root image I found at Tablet Roms.I also have CWM installed from Indirects recovery flasher apk.
I can run the sd version of CM7 with no problems, but when I install the internal version which is the Team-B CM7-Alpha final version through CWM,do a factory wipe/reset and clean the Devlik cache and partition, when I reboot from CWM,I get the Team-B splash screen and no further. It hangs there and the image jumps around a little with some violet artifacts at the top of the screen.
I have reverted to a stock rooted version1.42 with the Gapps loaded with no issues. I have tried to flash this 3 times with the same outcome.Im using the B&N stock version now right now.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can't Flash CM7 Internal on 8GB Nook
you may want to check out these two threads before you try flashing anything to your device. The site is getting a little daunting as far as amount of info out there, but try reading all of the stickies on the different forums.

It would simplify things if the devs would simply put 8GB or 16GB or 8/16GB so that people knew which worked for which. It would take literally 2 extra seconds and save a whole lot of trouble.
A lot of those threads started before the 8 Gibbs NT. Since it is out you Development do tell what works on the 8 gb NT.
Please read do a little reading before jumping in with both feet.
Thanks,
Bill
So you're saying rather than simply asking the original poster to update a thread (only 3-4 active ROMs right now), its more prudent to have to have the end users read multiple threads which MIGHT have info about whether a build is compatible or to scour threads 100 pages deep?
I don't get it at all.
The HTC HD2 had a similar problem with ROMs for multiple Windows Phone versions plus Android development. After the confusion between Android and WP ROMs started bricking phones, they simply relabeled the threads and required future ROM threads to clearly state in the OP what could use it. Eventually, they make separate boards for WP6.5, WP7 and Android. It was a good move and development has exploded on the device.
Instead of this...
Mirrors:
Internal version - Nook-Tablet-CM7-Alpha-Final-TEAM-B-signed.zip - 103.3 Mb
Tell devs to label it like this....
Mirrors:
Internal version (16GB only) - Nook-Tablet-CM7-Alpha-Final-TEAM-B-signed.zip - 103.3 Mb
It really is THAT easy and being a little more prudent now is going to save a lot of devices in the future as more development occurs for each device.

You don't tell devs to do a goddamn thing. You flash theses roms at your own risk. These devs work for free and I'm willing to bet someone such as yourself hasn't donated a dime to any of them, rather you seem to be of the opinion that you are entitled to a certain level of custom service that you are not getting.
So please, stop posting and leave.
cool it dude!

I see that you offer a lot of good advice on these forums. You are a valued member here. Be careful that you do not destroy your reputation with flames on other valued members.
Although you are correct about the devs working for free, I believe that you are out of place making assumptions about whether someone has (or has not) made donations. I also believe that you are out of line telling someone to stop posting and leave. I don't see "moderator" in your name panel (on the left). BTW, I don't see one or more "stars" there either - check and you will see one under my name. Do you even know what the star means?
Everyone of us is "unlearned" until we ask questions. Questions lead to comments. Comments invite discussion. Discussion expands knowledge and improves processes. That is what the other poster was suggesting - to improve a process.
All of us with 8GB Nooks face the same issues of not being able to differentiate between what works on 16GB and what will also work on our device. It would be a very simple thing for EVERYONE - not just devs - to start listing their device inside each post.
Soooo... cool it. Calm down, take a deep breath & smell the roses! Just like the government, "We are here to help"
I don't need a star under my name to know when someone is showing an entitled attitude that does not belong here and to thus voice my opinion about it.
And there's no need to tell me to calm down. I'm perfectly calm. I just have zero tolerance for people who think xda exists as an arena for people to instruct developers as to what to do. I agree that model specification would be useful now that we have two. But the syntax that was used was "tell the devs to do." Thats simply not welcome here.

That was not my intention. I am sorry that my post came off that way. My post was an attempt to cool the flames - not spread them. Please consider how "condescending" (other terms might also apply) your post must have been to the other poster.

[Q] Question about providing documentation

Hi.
I've been a lurker on XDA for a while. This weekend I ordered a Galaxy Note to replace my Atrix 2, and I started going through the process of combing through the posts here to figure out how to root, flash roms, what roms to flash, etc. In the process I started learning a bunch of new terms that I'd never encountered before (ODIN specifically, but also "Fast Dormancy," APN, a few others). There's a lot of information here and it's a little dizzying.
Which brings me to the setup for my question(s). I am a technical writer, and have been for 19 years. I'm a pretty good one, and I have a knack for putting together pretty solid documentation. I thought it might be useful if I took a lot of these documents and put them together into an actual document, sort of an unofficial Galaxy Note manual for the i717, and turned it into a PDF that someone could download and use as a reference.
My questions are:
1. Is there any actual need or desire from the community for this? I figure a lot of you are probably more used to crawling through the forums for information than I am, so perhaps this is something that wouldn't provide much benefit.
2. Is there any legal concern for it? This is a little trickier. Essentially I'd be providing documentation that included how to root a phone, and as far as I know there's no reason it would be illegal (just, you know, warranty-voiding). I'm a little fuzzier on documenting ODIN, since it's apparently Samsung-provided software...
3. If I created this, where should I put it? I'd be tempted just to link to my own site, but I notice the common thing to do here is to post it on a cloud/file hosting account. Is there a specific reason I shouldn't put it up on my site, other than the bandwidth hit if it turned out to be ridiculously popular?
Anyway, those are my questions. Just trying to get feel for whether it would be worth the time to take on this project...
