Tap to wake flat - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Is there a way to enable tap to wake to work other than vertical orientation, such as laying flat or upside down?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

i have found the phone just has to be tilted a small degree and it will work

Mainly I want to wake it while it's laying on my desk

i just tested it while typing this at my desk and it works fine, no need to full pick up the phone

Loss of pull down notification area

I had someone knock my phone out of my hand and it dropped and hit the floor. After putting the battery back in and restarting the phone, I found out that I could no longer swipe my finger down from the top of the screen to pull down my notification menu. I believe my screen is now out of calibration at the top and is not registering my touch. It does work in landscape mode. I reflashed my phone with latest version on ICS. Still not working, any ideas? Thanks

So the top of the screen doesn't work at all in portrait mode?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
It is on, but does no register any touch on the top quarter inch of the screen.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm.... Odd that just that small of a section stopped working. Pushing harder doesn't do anything?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
No affect what so ever. I believe my screen has re-calibrated so the top section is out of the operating area. At least that is my thinking.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm... I don't think it recalibrated. Maybe more like the digitizer was damaged.

I guess I will call Verizon in the morning and see what they say about sending out a new one unless someone has an idea. Thanks for the help.

Weird because after I changed my digitizer, now I can't swipe up on the notification bar and the screen looks perfectly placed. Are you running ics? If you are, go to developer options and select show touches and look to see if it actually registers on that area of the screen.

It does not show me touching at the top. It stops registering about a quarter of an inch from the top.

call verizon but if there is no physical damage, don't tell them you dropped it.
If there is physical damage and you get them to send a warranty replacement, they might charge you for it.
I will call them today but do I need to get my phone back to factory software? I am running a leaked version of ICS. If I need to take it back to factory software, how do I go about it? My phone is not rooted.

The contents of the screen can be dragged down into the capacitive buttons?

So, I'm scrolling through my text messages (I have a lot), and I noticed that as you keep scrolling past the bottom of the screen, it still recognizes through the capacitive buttons...
To demonstrate, try this:
Open your messages application. Don't open any of the text messages themselves, but try and drag down (like you're moving up) the second to last message thread in your messages and watch as it continues to spring past the bottom of the screen into the capacitive buttons...
I'm wondering if there is still screen real-estate there, and they covered the actual ICS buttons with black paint and their own "capacitive" buttons.
Thoughts?

Weird...

You know the capacitive surface is in the glass and not the lcd, so the capacitive area of the buttons is the same as the screen. HTC just made sure to code it to read as one area through scrolling.

This is how all the phones I've used have worked, even back to my TouchPro2 with a resistive screen and that zoom bar underneath. The capacitive sensor is simply larger than the screen to include the buttons.

Same on the EVO 3d
Wow, never noticed this b/f!

You cant really swype there, android just makes it seem that way
Yes we have the largest screen at 5.25ish inches. Take that samsung note!

The OG Evo worked that way as well.

Hmmm... If that area is in reality just an extension of the mapped/mappable capacitive sensor would that in theory mean that additional buttons and/or gestures could be put down there?
Interesting. My Galaxy Nexus doesn't do this.

You don't have capacitive buttons...
I didn't notice that before. Very interesting! I hope that means we can increase the capacitive back button virtual size. I keep missing it since the spacing is different than my ns4g...
Wow really interesting...never noticed it

If you have used the pokemon rom you will notice under tweaks that this already happens. For instance they are used to unlock the screen if you swipe from the back button towards the recent apps button.

[u] How the hell do you remove the caps?

I got an Xperia U today and I swear the cap is superglued on! Any tips for removing it easily?
Apply pressure( like real hard pressure) on the sides of the cap using your thumb and finger on either side and slide it down.

That's what I'm doing but it just doesn't work, neither my mum or dad can get it off either
Yeah its a bit of a pain to take it off. Do this. Put pressure in just one side and pull the cap out (careful or you'll break it). When its out, push it back and pull the other end simultaneously. It should be out.

We can't even get one side out

Camera Rattle

With two cameras on back the rattle seems much more significant. You can hear the rattle just putting phone up to head. Sucks but only complaint thus far except Dot View Case is a bit hard to hold due to the curved back.
Not me. You may have a defective unit.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using xda app-developers app
I have two and both exhibit the same rattle which was also present on the original One as well. Just like iPhone and nexus 5 as well. I think having two cameras exasperated the problem.
Sure its not the volume rocker rattling? Put a finger on the volume rocker then check for a rattle

I don't get camera rattle but do get pwr button rattle

this. it sounded like mine was rattling, but i put my finger on the volume rocker and now it's silent when i shake it. there shouldn't be any noise from the camera since there is no OIS in it to move around

Second Screen swipe when powered off

Anyone have any issues where swipe stops working on the second screen when the phone is powered off?
Tried rebooting, turning the second screen on and off in settings and still nothing. It works fine though when the phone is on
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
mine sometimes seem to not like when I swipe on it when it's off (or asleep).... but if you keep trying, it'll eventually register a swipe.
it's weird.
I think it's just not a very well calibrated sensitivity on that screen
I agree. It seems to not register immediately. It lessens the utility of the second screen.
Mine never registers
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
mine works fine. I think you can only swipe from right to left to show camera, flashlight...
Yeah you can swipe the other way for the music app but I can't swipe any direction
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
And it works when the screen is on just not when the screen is off

Is your knock on working? I couldn't swipe either when I had issue with my knock on. Had to factory reset and it's working again afterwards.

oh that's all? That's great, glad it worked out for you. That will be the first thing I'll do next time this happens again.
