[Q] AOSP ROMS and the S Pen. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

So, I'm absolutely in love with the Beanstalk 4.4.2 ROM for our phone. Problem is, I bought the Note 3 specifically for work because of how easy it is to take notes on the fly. What I'm looking for is a way to integrate Air Command and/or Action Memo into a custom AOSP ROM. Preferably a way to at least have Action Memo pop up when I remove the S Pen.
I've done a little Google searching and I haven't quite found an answer I'm satisfied with. I was hoping the community might be able to offer a solution or at least maybe we can get the ball rolling on a way to integrate this into future ROMs.

There is no way to use Samsung apps without touch wiz framework. .. Best you can do is to find a couple apps from play store to replace watch on will work but that is about it

GMD launcher launches apps or special functions when removing the spen. But its nowhere near as useful as the set up note 3 touchwiz roms. look up gmd launcher
here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo

note buddy also works. you can set it to open a particular app once the pen is removed.

first actual review of the AT&T model I have seen!
Good find.
Wait though, the AT&T version doesn't have S-Planner? Anyone heard this yet? Do you think it will be available in the market after we buy? That was really one of the cooler/features apps for the Note.
From the review:
The European version of the Note is home to S-Planner and S-Choice, which are two other S-Pen apps.

What are the stand out features of these apps? I see that u can add notes to the calander from S-note, what does S-choice do(edit:apps made for the pen, the article says
Samsung has programmed a pair of memo apps to work with the S-Pen, and is also encouraging other developers to create their own compatible apps as well. There will be about 20 of these apps at launch.

Im sure someone will port them eitherway.
S Choice is basically the app store for S-pen-enabled apps which there aren't many right now so it's not huge deal, although the S Planner was a far more functional/usable calendar than the native TouchWiz calendar just by layout alone.
Hopefully we'll see a port or it will be an optional download. Still can't really see why they would remove it though, especially after all the marketing they did behind it.

I saw a video of the ATT model and the calendar app looks to be the S planner app. At least it looked identical in the video.

this browser is amazing for the note

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking for an alternative to the stock one. Why do you like it so much? And did you try chrome, firefox or any the other browsers out there?
+1 I use this browser for its floating capability. It works great in that respect.
Does anyone know if there are any other apps like this? It would be nice to maybe be able to do this with any app.

I hit thanks by accident lol. The developer who makes this browser also makes Stick it! the floating video player, a floating calculator, and floating terminal emulator. The maker of A.I. Type keyboard make a floating split keyboard (useful on the Note when using tablet mode). Those are the floating apps I know about.
As far as any app having the ability to float, there is a thing called Cornerstone that allows for floating windows with up to three apps at once. I believe it's being used on tablets and I heard it may be implemented into CyanogenMod but I don't know much about that. Here's a link:

Wow, nice find. It has a great interface. I LIKE!
The floating Window really does make multitasking seamless. The only sticking point I have encountered is os related. The excruciatingly slow upgrade schedule imposed by at&t/Samsung means a large base of gnotes users are still on the "offical" bloated gingerbread rom.
If you want flash support on this browser, then you will have another reason to upgrade to ics.
Just what do you think you're doing, Dave? Dave, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question.
this and stick it are sick! Good to show off the multi tasking our phones are capable of and to use up all this screen!

[HELP] Paranoid Android HALO

Hi all,
I have quite a bit of developing experience but unfortunately have no idea how building roms works. Since now HALO from the PA rom is open source I was wondering if it has been ported as an APK. If it hasn't I was wondering if any kind folks out here know what needs to be done to port it and if anyone was willing to help. I understand pop up mini apps are not possible, and thats not what I am looking for. I just wanted the chat head style notifications. Also I know there is an app that does this, but I like the HALO implementation better, plus who doesn't like choices.
Thanks.
Just a friendly bump. If anyone perhaps knows how I can email someone from PA or knows any other dev who could help me out I would be much obliged.

I developed this ROM for TF101 2 months ago. So I've some experience with it.
So anyway, Its not ported as an APK file. Don't think all things in Android are an APK file. Its coded by Paranoid Android developers in the Android System. Then the HALO is being added into the Settings app, by modifying and adding some java and xml files in it. Then it need some time to test whether its working or not. If you want to know how the ROM build works, you can just Google for it.
If you want to see their work go to Paranoid Android github. That's the source for the ROM.

Yup, I know it was baked into android and isn't an app, but I was wondering if anyone knew how I could make it a standalone app. But thanks for the heads up, now I know where to look for all the code that HALO uses. I think it may be a fairly comprehensive code rewrite but Its worth a shot.
You might want to try these.

Yup I have seen those, the halo app is an addon that lets you pin apps to halo when you run a PA rom. The second has a very different execution style.

Thats not an app for HALO. That jus selects apps to be pinned n trigered.
And the 2nd 1 looks like halo but is not HALO at all
I know this is rather late, but I have been looking at the code lately and I was wondering if anyone has made any progress or has some deeper insight. I haven't been able to try because my computer is on its last legs and I wont be able to work on anything till it is replaced later.

[Q] Can the previous S-Note be installed after root?

Now that we have ROOT (thanks beanstown), has anyone tried the old S-Note apk after root? I haven't rooted yet because I'm not sure that's I'm going to keep it (I miss some of the features of the old 10.1) and I don't want to re-root and return it.
I think if I can get the old Multi-window (or if the new floating app manager would maintain appropriate app appearance and/or allow for resizing once the window has been created AND if I can either get used to or replace the new S-Note with the previous version, it's a keeper.
Those two things combined are staple to how I use it and as much as I want to, can't justify giving them up for an improved screen. *I'd love some 'official'' accessories too! Otherwise, I think this tablet is just about perfect
Not trying to be a whiner, just trying to make this thing work as perfectly as possible.
Thanks for any information on this.

Multi window works on Note 3 after installing xposed, it means it will work on Note 10.1 too.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. I'm not real familiar with Xposed and how I use it to get things to work. Can you provide a link so I can do this?
I myself don't know much, stated reading about it.

If you have root, have you tried this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.multiwindowmanagerpro
Says it works with Note 10.1, but I realize it is the older version. There is also a free version

I have the app, pro version, works well on old 10.1 and on Note 8. I read in Note 3 forum that they tried and it requires xposed. Without having a backup and not knowing much about it I'm not brave to test it.

I use this on my S4, without xposed.
Any one figured out either a) how to get the old s-note working, or b) how to work the new one properly ? With my old 10.1 I would split screen and I could draw a circle around the text I wanted (from my bible app, chrome, kindle, whatever) and drag it to s note and it would be added. I can get the first note to take a copied item, but subsequent items are hit or miss. Ivwe tried for weeks and cannot get it to work as well as the old note. I may have to go back to the old 10.1 if I cannot get it to work. As it is, the pen is about useless to me for the purposes I need it for.

Question Will Root disable SPen

Hi folks,
Question from an iOs guy... last Android was the S3
I switched to S23 Ultra for the use of the S-Pen and taking quick notes as well as use it for my calendar.
If I root the phone I know Ill get a basic Android 13 without all that Bloatware stuff from Samsung.
But will I be able to install let's say the apks for the S-Pen stuff ?
Thanks
Already downloaded all the stuff to root, just waiting for this to be settled and then go ahead.

you wont lose any of those functions unless you uninstall something related to the spen. speaking of root, you cant really debloat using root at the moment. it has something to do with the read and write access.

No you won't lose any spen functions, you will lose anything related to knox (samsung pay, etc) as for debloating, you can do that without root just fine. Google universal android debloater gui from github or google adb app control
Both do the same thing, and both are free and they both ha e plenty of instructions on how to use and how to not break your device. Also I don't have the link for it but google XDA samsung optimization guide and it will tell you how to use adb app control and how to optimize your device. I personally don't use the guide I pick and choose what I want and it's fairly self explanatory.
the best way is disable app relate to s-pen if you don't need it
