Hi folks,
Question from an iOs guy... last Android was the S3
I switched to S23 Ultra for the use of the S-Pen and taking quick notes as well as use it for my calendar.
If I root the phone I know Ill get a basic Android 13 without all that Bloatware stuff from Samsung.
But will I be able to install let's say the apks for the S-Pen stuff ?
Thanks
Already downloaded all the stuff to root, just waiting for this to be settled and then go ahead.

you wont lose any of those functions unless you uninstall something related to the spen. speaking of root, you cant really debloat using root at the moment. it has something to do with the read and write access.

No you won't lose any spen functions, you will lose anything related to knox (samsung pay, etc) as for debloating, you can do that without root just fine. Google universal android debloater gui from github or google adb app control
Both do the same thing, and both are free and they both ha e plenty of instructions on how to use and how to not break your device. Also I don't have the link for it but google XDA samsung optimization guide and it will tell you how to use adb app control and how to optimize your device. I personally don't use the guide I pick and choose what I want and it's fairly self explanatory.
the best way is disable app relate to s-pen if you don't need it

I personally felt that it was fine as is, very simple and straightforward however, if you could make the Root script Unroot too, that would be interesting. Though i have no wants to unroot so i do not know how the process differs from rooting it (i.e. is doable through batch files) so it is even capable of being done that way. My 2 cents for what they are worth.
Also, do not take this as it can't be improved upon as everything can, however even if you didn't it would be fine as is.

I already released a unroot one click app. :|
I think it's fine as is. It's easy enough to understand, once you get everything working properly.
I love the root script it eliminated some force close issues on my device. I was wondering since roms are not avaiable if their could be custom scripts. Maybe a super custom script with three keyboard choices a choice of launchers replaced stock email, stock keyboard, gallery, wallpapers, homecatcher and other enhanced apps. I don't know if this is a direction you want to go just throwing it out there. It might help some new users. Also I dont know if its possible to have shortcuts like any cut has incorperated for debug keyboard and application menus that are hidden. Again just thinking outloud so if this sounds like a big pile of suck please just ignore and move on.

When I ran the script, the last part of nookandzergy that put on a custom keyboard didn't work. So I just reset and did the root with saying no to custom keyboard and it worked fine.
I like your idea. I ran the script in the original thread and it said it was successful. But the android market is hinky. It took dforever to register my device, and now it crashes as soon as it is launched. I did a factory reset, still have the same problem. Is there a way to tell for sure that the root was succesfu,. Thanks btw for your hard work on this. It is greatly admired.
Would it help resolve the driver issue that a lot (me) have had?
Dude thats strictly a windows problem. I swear, trying to get this thing detected properly on windows 7/xp was one of the most frustrating adroid rooting experiences I've ever had. After 3 hours f screwing around with the windows method, I switched to Ubuntu linux and had it rooted in 30 min.
I thought you script was fine as is, this is my first Android device and first experience Rooting and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks

Spoken like a true developer. You craft a thing of beauty and continue to be drawn to making it even cooler.
I don't know if you should rewrite the script or not but I like your attitude!
I decided to not rewrite it to have a numbered menu as that wouldn't go with my idiot pproof batch scripting habits so instead, I added new features yesterday and today.

Hi all,
This isn't a "stir the pot" kind of question and I don't intend to start a "why root?" discussion... I've read as many other threads as possible and I'm just not clear on a few things. In a current "why do you want to root?" thread, many responded that they rooted so they could remove bloat ware, use wifi tethering, etc. Those are all the things I want, but I'm not sure how far I need to go to get those. Will I need to flash a custom ROM or can I do what I want now?
So, here's what I've got and what I hope to get:
I bought I DNA from a guy who wanted to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5. It did not have the 2.0 software update, so I was able to unlock it, S-OFF, and root it. I can use the SDK and adb, but primarily to follow instructions. Beyond that, I don't really know what I can do now. I had Cyanogen on my trusty old Nexus 1 and on my Xoom tablet, so I'm not afraid of custom ROMs. But, I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the stock DNA ROM. Except for a few things...
1) What I would like is to get rid of the silly games which I won't use. I don't know enough to know if I can, with the stock ROM but root access, remove those. There's no uninstall option, but perhaps there's a way to remove those with root access? Or would I need to flash a custom ROM?
2) Remove the "entitlement check" on the wifi hotspot app. Since I'm running on T-Mo the app won't, of course, allow activation of the hotspot. Silly... I've read several threads on using SQLite to do this, but they're from last year and either the process has changed or it no longer works. I have read that I can use another app, which is an option. But if there's a way to run the stock app, I'd go for that.
So, you can see I don't really want to change much. If I can do these now, with what access I've got, please let me know (and how, please!). If I need a custom ROM, I see three options it seems. CM (which I've always liked, but seems not yet ready for DNA??), Viper and Hatka seem to be the options which are popular. I'm open to guidance here. Not a "this is the best ROM argument", but which would you recommend for my minimalist needs?
EDIT - I mentioned "three options" above, but that was just based on my reading in the past two weeks. I see there's a new M7 rom and that thread already has over 100 pages in about a week, so it looks like a popular option as well. Apologies if I missed somebody's work and I'm open to any pointers and experiences.
Thanks in advance,
Ross - in the beautiful mountains in Northern Arizona.
I guess if you know the name of the apk of the games, you can use root explorer to remove them from /system/apps but keep in mind we do not know what else it may break and then you may have to ruu back.
if you want to try a rom, try the sense 5 port by newtoroot
To remove some of the user / system apps like twitter or picas, i search 'root uninstaller' in the apps store, and the one with a green trash can has been quite reliable for me ^^
I personally like the minimalistic touch to the M7 / Sense 5 Rom. Easy to get my news, use gps, play music WITH beats on bluetooth/speaker, etc. But stock is really good to, no complaints there.
Thanks and an update - I ended up flashing the M7 and, like you said, it's nice. And an unexpected bonus is that the included wifi hotspot app works just fine with my T-Mo service, without any modifications at all.
I've got everything I wanted and it was easy, once I made the choice.
Now that we have ROOT (thanks beanstown), has anyone tried the old S-Note apk after root? I haven't rooted yet because I'm not sure that's I'm going to keep it (I miss some of the features of the old 10.1) and I don't want to re-root and return it.
I think if I can get the old Multi-window (or if the new floating app manager would maintain appropriate app appearance and/or allow for resizing once the window has been created AND if I can either get used to or replace the new S-Note with the previous version, it's a keeper.
Those two things combined are staple to how I use it and as much as I want to, can't justify giving them up for an improved screen. *I'd love some 'official'' accessories too! Otherwise, I think this tablet is just about perfect
Not trying to be a whiner, just trying to make this thing work as perfectly as possible.
Thanks for any information on this.

Multi window works on Note 3 after installing xposed, it means it will work on Note 10.1 too.

If you have root, have you tried this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.multiwindowmanagerpro
Says it works with Note 10.1, but I realize it is the older version. There is also a free version

I have the app, pro version, works well on old 10.1 and on Note 8. I read in Note 3 forum that they tried and it requires xposed. Without having a backup and not knowing much about it I'm not brave to test it.

I use this on my S4, without xposed.
Any one figured out either a) how to get the old s-note working, or b) how to work the new one properly ? With my old 10.1 I would split screen and I could draw a circle around the text I wanted (from my bible app, chrome, kindle, whatever) and drag it to s note and it would be added. I can get the first note to take a copied item, but subsequent items are hit or miss. Ivwe tried for weeks and cannot get it to work as well as the old note. I may have to go back to the old 10.1 if I cannot get it to work. As it is, the pen is about useless to me for the purposes I need it for.

nearly total noob here.
I got a Huawei Valiant, rooted and with CWM flashed.
I have been compiling files to produce various ROMS; one ROM with only original Huawei apks, one with all the bloat stripped out, and one with all the elite cool hacking goodies.
While I am able to easily tweak my ROM on-device, I am unsure about how to take one of my back ups and make it a distributable ROM without any personal data.
I have tried to search, but to be honest this site doesnt seem to like my phone one bit.
Thanks in advance!
No responses???
I'm really wondering whats the point.
79 views. 3 are me. And no one who read is interested or helpful?
Oh well, I guess no one out there cares.
Update:
I think I can take a nandroid backup and morph it to a proper ROM release. Still trying to figure it out. IMG, tar, etc format issues.
Have one backup of non-user data that is Huawei branded 100%. Huawei apps plus AOSP apps.
Runs smooth.
Got another wannabe ROM, Tor integrated as system app. All data is proxied around the world. All ad networks disabled through Hosts. This 'ROM' also has a bit torrent client, RDP/VNC, WiFi Scanner/Diagnostics, and 4 browsers. Also has working tether and ROOT. Primarily for my job use.
The last wannabe 'ROM' I'm working on is a completely stripped ROM. Having problems getting all the Google gone.
I could desperately use knowledgable brains.
Please reply even if you can't help. It is a LOT of work, and it looks like no one else cares... and it is too damn hard to read hundreds of half-dead threads for help.

Good Stuff!!
Looking for Custom Rom for Huawei Valiant as well. Got it cheap from MetroPCS
Please keep us updated.
Well, after a hard drive crash and a few soft bricks... I think I'll start by posting individual steps for individual programs/installations...
As a brief example:
Windowed Apps on the Free
Be rooted (I used impactor by sauric)
Use Xposed framework from here.
Xhalofloatingwindows. Install it.
Here's how to set it up
Blah
Blah
And then install this app, holoshortcut. The open source one works great to make shortcuts to existing apps that run in windowed mode.
Make sure the apps are not running when you click the windowed icon, else the original full screen app loads (force stop Browser then click the new shortcut so it loads windowed)
Running the non windowed shortcut resets the app to children until you force stop it and run it from the new icon.
There's also blah blah to make a blah blah etc.
Interested in that infos?

I'm sorry I can't offer any help im just aNOOB myself and was inquiring for a custom ROM with a custom theme (pink) possibly, and came up on ur post, I have a little trouble understanding the whole process but I'm learning and even though I can't offer any assistance to you I think your work on this project is highly un-appreciated and over-looked. You deserve a response from someone knowledgeable and as dedicated ad yourself. I have a Huawei Valiant and I rooted with the same method was excited to install a custom ROM but as you noticed there isn't much to work with and unfortunately I'm not as educated in this area as you are. I hope u find some help and if so send some my way......thanks
How did you root your device? I just got my Valiant and need to root it to get all this bloat off, theme & mod it and get my audio back up to par with V4 A, which requires root.
* I just saw the answer posted above.....derp Impactor to gain root

So, I'm absolutely in love with the Beanstalk 4.4.2 ROM for our phone. Problem is, I bought the Note 3 specifically for work because of how easy it is to take notes on the fly. What I'm looking for is a way to integrate Air Command and/or Action Memo into a custom AOSP ROM. Preferably a way to at least have Action Memo pop up when I remove the S Pen.
I've done a little Google searching and I haven't quite found an answer I'm satisfied with. I was hoping the community might be able to offer a solution or at least maybe we can get the ball rolling on a way to integrate this into future ROMs.
