Hey guys, I recently got the Galaxy SII. Its rooted running Android 2.3.5 GINGERBREAD.DUKJ1.
My issue is trying to run ZIP files from my SD card using ClockWorkMod. I put the files into the SD card root folder and then boot into CWM. When I go run zip file from SD card there is nothing there. CWM cant see any of my files.
I have sucessfully booted ZIPS by placing them in the Phone folder instead of the SD card folder. If I go into My files and then under sdcard/external_sd I can see the file I put on there. CWM just refuses to see these files. When I connect my phone I see 2 folders, Card and Phone. I am putting these zip files in Card. I assume this is correct? Can anyone help?
Cheers
mount ur int sd card
Thanks for the reply, while waiting for a reply I unmounted the SD card, formatted it and then remounted it. I dropped another zip file, once again made sure I could see it in file manager and it was there. Booted in CWM, went to install zip file, went to ext_sd folder and it still says no file found. Under storage the SD card is listed there. Any ideas?

Sounds like you are using version 4.x of CWM, this does not support native updating from dual memory (So it only ever looks at phone memory, while you can manually mount and then update it's not as simple a process and often steps get forgotten)... if you just update to the newer CWM you will see another option appear on the list (apply update from internal memory)... making it much clearer and easier to update. (Or just use your phone memory to hold the zip files, it really doesn't matter that much)
I think you are right, it says v4.0.0.2. Would someone be kind enough to point me to where the latest version is?
Edit- nevermind I think I found it.
Thanks guys

This question is not relevant, as he is referring to Recovery Mode. (Debugging is only optional through normal OS, and can not be changed in recovery without rebuilding the kernel)
Everything is all good guys, the new version of CWM allows me to boot from my SD card and it installed ICS perfect. Thanks again
If I try to rename or delete files from SD card with astro file manager, I get insufficient permissions error.
It was working few months ago, is it ICS update or astro update problem?
Anyone has same issue?
Thanks in advance
Just tried deleting a photo with Astro and it works only when viewing the photo with the device's gallery or the app quick pic. I am on ICS.

Permission for writing files to and deleting files from sdcard and sdcard2 (external SD card) was changed in Android 4 (ICS); user write/delete permission was diabled. This change broke many apps that could write and delete files with previous versions of Android. If your ICS is rooted, you can use Condi's AIO tool's Tweaks and Mods item 12 to enable the write/delete permission for sdcard and sdcard2.
Hello,
I took backup of vold.fstab on external sd card and then I follow instructions in one of the thread in this forum to swap internal storage with external storage for Micromax A177. Rooting, copying, rebooting - everything was fine. But after rebooting, it is not showing any storage device in File Manager - no phone storage, no internal card, no external sd card.
I don't know what was the wrong step.
But anyhow, I think I need my original vold.fstab file. Can anyone help me and provide that file for Micromax A177 model and its permission setting?
Thanks in advance
Amit
Hello,
I managed to get back my original vold.fstab file and restored in etc folder. Set permission as read-write for owner, read property for Group adn Other. No execute permission for anyone.
Are these settings right?
But still, I can't see any storage device on my smartphone - no external sd card, no internal sd card nothing.
Please guide.
Thanks

Bro. you have to delete the "vold.fstab' that you have earlier downloaded and copied in folder "etc' and then rename the "vold.fstab.bak' to "vold.fstab' to its earlier original name. And congrates its done reboot your device..
[Imp-your device should be rooted]
Recomend to use root explorer app

I have made it flashable that automatically replaces it if u flash it via CWM ,TWRP or philz.........

hello,
I have a samsung galaxy tab a.
this is a nice device but only has 8 gb of internal memory. it runs android 5.1
I'm trying to switch the internal and external sd memory. (to get more internal memory)
first of all the device needed to be rooted. I have done this, without any problem..
then I started searching how to switch the memory. I have tried different apps for this but they where not working.
after this I tried to swap the memory manually. I read somewhere this can be done in the vold.fstab file.
I didn't found this file.
after reading more about the topic I found out that the mounting for android 5.1 is done in the boot.img file.
I looked for how to unpack this file, and I'm doing this now with cygwin and android kitchen 0.224
I can unpack the boot.img but have a few questions.
1) the mounting should be done in fstab.<devicename>...... the device name is Galaxy Tab A (2016) but I can not find fstab.galaxy Tab A (2016), but fstab.goldfish and fstab.sc8830 is it possible the mounting is done in one of thes files ? (they are found in the root of the boot.img
2) what should I change in these files?
3) afther I have changed the mounting, how can I with android kitchen repack the boot.img
thank for any help
best regards,
Bart
