Hello,
I took backup of vold.fstab on external sd card and then I follow instructions in one of the thread in this forum to swap internal storage with external storage for Micromax A177. Rooting, copying, rebooting - everything was fine. But after rebooting, it is not showing any storage device in File Manager - no phone storage, no internal card, no external sd card.
I don't know what was the wrong step.
But anyhow, I think I need my original vold.fstab file. Can anyone help me and provide that file for Micromax A177 model and its permission setting?
Thanks in advance
Amit
Hello,
I managed to get back my original vold.fstab file and restored in etc folder. Set permission as read-write for owner, read property for Group adn Other. No execute permission for anyone.
Are these settings right?
But still, I can't see any storage device on my smartphone - no external sd card, no internal sd card nothing.
Please guide.
Thanks

Bro. you have to delete the "vold.fstab' that you have earlier downloaded and copied in folder "etc' and then rename the "vold.fstab.bak' to "vold.fstab' to its earlier original name. And congrates its done reboot your device..
[Imp-your device should be rooted]
Recomend to use root explorer app

Hello everyone. I owned the Samsung Galaxy S2.
ICS 4.0.4
Baseband version I9100XXLQ5
Kernel version 3.0.15-I9100XXLQ5-CL753921
Build number IMM76D.XXLQ5
I have a problem I can not solve, so I hope someone will help!
Can not create a folder in "sdcard". When I try to create a folder appears the error "Sorry, operation failed." I use ES File Explorer.
Also when you want to copy a folder from the external sd, disallowing.
Note that the external _sd can create a folder and I have no problem as the sdcard (internal memory).
Also when I connect my phone to PC as Mass Storage, the sdcard can not create a folder.
It appears to me the error "The file '<1% NULL: NameDest>' is too large for the destination file system".I tried to re flashing ROM,but no effects.
I will be grateful if someone help me or direct me to where I can find a solution to this problem.

I Also had this Problem, the way i fixed it was:
1. close your phone and remove your SD card.
2. plug the SD card to your PC and run Error checking & Defragmentation.
3. if you wish Format the SD (i did that).
4. put back the SD card in your phone.
5. i used Astro file manger on my phone try this app to make /copy / paste on your SD.
Hope that will help you as it help me.
If not the last thing i can advice you to do is to replace the SD with a Different SD and see if with another one it is working... maybe your SD card just died on you...
Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did what you said, and I tried a new card, but it did not help.
My problem is to create a folder on the internal memory and copying from external memory. T
he external card can I create a folder and I have no problems there.
I solved the problem. I did Factory data reset.
My phone was first a SIM lock, so I unlocked the service.
I was afraid that it will be locked again if you do Factory data reset, but I risked, and there were no problems.
Only now I have another problem, 4GB internal memory, and should be 16GB.( i not touched PIT file)
K, when i was using android 4.1.1 on my Micromax a116, i successfully rooted my phone using "MTK6589_SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0.119" with the provided "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt" and "recovery.img" (Clockworkmod) and installed the "Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip" and "su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip" with the clockworkmod. I was also able to swap the storage in my phone successfully (i.e., internal storage become external storage and vise versa). for that i edited the "vold.fstab" file in system/etc using "ES file manager" (older version with root settings) with root access and changed sdcard0 to sdcard1 and vise versa. At that time even in my Settings ---> storage, the available internal storage was that of my 8gb microSD. So i was able to install all my apps and games into my MicroSD.
Now the problem is after i updated my phone to 4.2.1, i successfully rooted it with the same "MTK6589_SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0.119" with the provided "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt" and "recovery.img" (Clockworkmod) (for 4.2.1) and installed "UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip" because Superuser-3.1.3 is supported only for android 2.3 - 4.1. Now just like before i edited the "vold.fstab" and changed sdcard0 to sdcard1 and vise versa. But now even after my internal storage has changed to my 8gb MicroSD, all apps install only in my phone memory regardless of me changing the "Default write disk" options. I've tried absolutely everything but no luck. Please help me out here.
I'm attaching screenshots of my current storage menu page, this is after i have edited the vold.fstab file. and also i will attach my vold.fstab file for reviewing if ianything is wrong
stck in the same problem

ive read alot about the Read Write issues being experienced with Google's Android unwilling to let you use your external SD card for storage of Apps and writing to it , ive followed some tutorials about the net and even tried jamisons pre-rooted Rom for SM-T120 and everytime i get nowhere with it all .. my tab3 is now rooted but i cant write to the card .. is this going to be possible or does anyone know something i haven't tried ...
so i will tell you what ive tried for now
editing permissions.xml
loading the pre-rooted firmware
changing permissions to vold.fstab file
is there something out there !
thanks for any suggestions and help .. much appreciated Paul :good:
im running 4.1.2 Android Version and its Rooted - Build JZ054K.T210XXAMG2
I think that is not enough. I did the same ... in my research I came across the void.fstab in some devices is possible in the galaxy 3 do not know what the correct code.
I found universal files vold.fstab, but without success

I may have just found a solution , the root method is fine by jamison ... then once that has been flashed and the tablet has restarted , go into oden again and flash the CWM recovery the same way as you do for the pre rooted firmware .. then follow these instructions i found posted by stefan !
Ok, I fixed the issue:
- Mounted USB storage (external SD) in CWM
- Backed up all files from my external SD (except a strange folder named µATA, which could not be read at all)
- Formatted the external SD under Windows
- Copied back my files to the external SD
- Restarted Android
Now the external SD is mounted r/w. Also in Root Explorer I can see that the external SD is r/w and not r/o as before.
hope this works for you as i think its working for me as ive just been able to delete a folder from widows via the USB cable .. where i didnt have access before

The device recognizes the sd as storage for apps?
I always had access to my sd on windows with USB cable, except in recovery, i use the TWRP, in recovery i can't mount SD with USB cable, but i think is an issue of TWRP or CWM.
My problem is to enable the move app to sd or recognize it has internal memory. I know that in SGS3 is possible to recognize sd card as internal memory changing the script in vold.fstb, in tab 3 it should not be so different.
PS: is a shame... i can't post links yet .

Hi,
I bought a z2 yesterday. formatted my old 16gb microsdcard to use in my z2. I can see the folders and the phone can read my card. So i tried to download a file directly to my external card but it showed me a error lik "no valdi folder" or something like that. After i tried to create a new folder in my card using a file explorer but it gives me a error "operation stopped". Any idea why and any solution?

On Android KitKat applications aren't allowed to modify the files on the SDcard. They are only allowed to place files in their own folders on the SDcard (/SDCard/Android/data/app_name if I remember correctly).
You can fix this only by gaining root access and modifying build.prop.

Uch, I was wrong about the build.pro. Actually you need to modify "/system/etc/permissions/platform.xml".
Here is some reference:
http://jrummy-apps.com/fix-sdcard-on-kitkat/
Root access is essential.
You can create a folder if you use the file explorer that came pre installed on the z2, all downloads go to internal storage but can be moved to sd card with 'file commander' this is the only app that can create and move folders to the sd card, apps such as astro and es explorer no longer have the permission.
Maybe I misunderstand the problem, but PocketCast can download and save the files to SD card without any problem. So, if this one can...
Yes PocketCast CAN write to the SD card, but only in its own folder, not everywhere. And it could write to a public folder (there are some defined in the Android SDK).
See Jackos post above...
Only software that is installed as system software may modify the files on the SDcard outside their personal folder. For example the build-in file manager.
File Commander (The built in file manager) is able to read and write to external SD. Use it instead of any other third party file manager app.
Hi Everyone,
I have a Micromax A310, i want to swap internal storage with SDcard.
I tried to find vold.fstab but its not there, even tried to find the option for the same in build.prop but all in vain.:crying::crying:
tho there are three FSTAB files in DEVICE,,
FSTAB, FSTAB.FAT.NAND,FSTAB.NAND
and all three files contains same info.. not sure which one is right to edit
so let me know if anyone really experimented or knows how to do that?
