Hello guys .
So this is what I want to do...
I often view my movies and animes on my Nexus 5.. But sometimes , when I try to play those videos on my ipod 4g or HTC desire C .. The wont play smoothly.. I do know it has something to do with hardware limitations on low end devices.. but I think its pretty unfair for these devices to not play atleast an SD 480p stream smoothly!
I have seen this feature in the MX player called "Enable Hardware acceleration.."
I don't know what it does , but selecting that option on my HTC desire C makes the videos a bit smoother but still the 480p videos wont play properly ... I tried reducing/increasing bitrates and codecs too (mostly H.264/XviD). But still no improvement.
I have my phone rooted too.
So is there any way to make 480p videos work on desire C and similar devices?
I would be really interested to work on it like a project which may target an app or some tweaks with the hardware itself?

Hi, i see your HTC Desire C's a single core cpu with 600mhz, so it might be hardcore for playing a minimum of 480p video. Personaly, i would go with VLC for Android Beta, use the hardware acceleration option, the exclusive headset remote control (because you have a HTC phone), Force Video Chroma as YUV (Android 2.3 +) and no deblocking. I would sugest to overclock your cpu to it normal rate (seem 800mhz from system on chip info) and only download 480p or 360p video in 8bit. When you open your video in vlc for pc, if the info of the video say 10bit, it will not work and you will need to force reboot your phone). I was using an iphone 3GS and i personaly was reencoding my video with an open source software and it was working (handbrake i think ?). If you plan to buy a new phone in the near future, dual core can run 1080p video in 8bit and quad core seem to run 720p in 10bit, I hope it will help you.

Hi, I know there has been some discussion about this already but I dont think this has been properly resolved.
I am fully aware of the tegra 2 video decoding limitations so lets not get into a discussion about that.
Basically, on the website Samsung suggest this can play 1080p video and there are various videos floating about suggesting it can plan youtube videos in 1080p format.
Now, here's the rub....
If you play a video in none desktop mode it plays great but this isnt in 1080p format, this is pretty obvious if you pump it out the HDMI. If you attempt to play it straight out of the browser, stock or Dolphin it stutters in 1080p and is just about watch-able in 720p.
So, I am wondering exactly what 1080p video sammy are actually referencing to?
On a side note however I have found that DICE and MXplayer do a really good job or playing main and high profile MKV's to the point where 720p high profiles are watchable at stock cpu 1 gig and smooth at 1.6 gig overclock (neither is hardware decoding, all done by CPU).
wow 60 views and no replies... ghost town in here...
Samsung simply repeats what Nvidia states which is the tegra 2 can only play 1080p video encoded in Baseline profile. The problem is nobody uses Baseline profile as its obsolete and has poor compression.
Youtube certainly does not use Baseline profile when it re-codes videos uploaded to its servers and that is problem....
Yes the video decoder in the tegra 2 sucks balls.
I dont think that is right, flash 3.2 is supposed to have tegra 2 hardware acceleration and should be able to play 1080p youtube stuff through a browser.
http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab/10.1/spec.html
See here, it still states full 1080p video playback, if it cannot play youtube 1080p then you have to wonder what it is refferring to exactly?

Just because it has hardware acceleration of a codec does not mean it can play all 1080p video as explained with h.264. If the video is encoded with too high of a bitrate the tegra 2 hardware accelerator chokes, and it does not take much to choke it....
Unfortunately advertisement is inherently deceptive as the case with the link you provided.
Does anyone have any more info regarding this? I really thought that with the 3.2 Honeycomb update they would optimize the Tegra 2 GPU more, but it still cant play any stream or youtube video at 1080p.
hi
i'm trying to run 720P movies on my device, and unfortunatly their not running smooth at all...
at first i had no sound, so i downloaded a codec pack. it helped and now i can hear but it's still very laggy.
I don't want to start d/ling every codec pack on the market until it'll run smooth...
anyone knows what's the proper codecs for this device?
thanks

What type of 720P video is it? Perhaps it's your SD card not reading fast enough. The Quallcomm SOC is capable of playing back 1080P videos with no issues, so I'm not sure why 720P video is choppy.
Are you playing back in Software or hardware mode? Have you tried moboplayer on it?
well
i was playing from the devices memory, not an external SD. so its not that.
i dont know what software/hardware modes are
but i tried V player and it works ok for now. thanks
720 and 1080 both record and play back beautifully for me.

Use your PC to Rip em and convert them to mp4, then copy the mp4's to your Jetstream. It's not the most straight forward thing so you may have to google whenever you get stuck.
This ought to get you started though... http://lifehacker.com/230349/rip-dvds-with-vlc

DL the MX Movie player app and then use SW decoding.
EDIT - recently installed vlc and when I select a movie it gives the option of playing with the native gallery movie player even though they don't show up when you open the gallery. Great picture and allowed for SRS AND 5.1 sound.
Mobo player does the job for me
my last phone was msm8255 adreno 205 that capable to play 720p video only
i would like to know if evo 3d manage to play 1080p rmvb file ?
feel like getting it . And how is its speaker performance ? Do it have bass ?
I would like to try sg2 but the speaker is plain treble without bass .
It won't play those files natively. You'd need to find an app that supports it. The speaker also lacks bass, but I think that'll be true for any smart phone. It's such a tiny speaker and not intended to be your boombox.

mobo player will play 1080p video ?
and will evo 3d receive ICS in the future ?

Probably
Yes
Diceplayer will almost certainly play it. For some reason, its better at playing 1080p content on this phone than mobo player. Do you have a sample file I can test for you?
One other thing to consider is that there is currently no way to play files bigger than 4gb ...
It will probably lag too badly to be viewable as there is no native hardware acceleration for rmvb video files. Same goes for the galaxy s2.
it won`t play those videos natively but it will play fine on a 3rd party media player such as mx player. coming from a nokia n8, the speaker is pretty bad but compared to other smart phones it is decent but not great however this can be fixed with tweaks.

Not even close. Its lagging really bad already on 720p. Forget about watching it in 1080p. This is tried on Dice player and MX video player. Even my Epic 4G Touch cannot play the 1080p rmvb.
I have both of these phones and trust me none of them cannot play HD resolution rmvb currently.
Hi,
I am trying to find out following: I would like to find out if I can use Galaxy Tab 10.1 to play video on my HDTV (Full HD via HDMI adapter). However almost all the apps that I have seen seem to produce dropped frames or problems with sync with audio/video during playback for number of mkv/mp4/avi media files. Only few full HD videos played properly while most of 720p/1080p had poor playback. So I am looking for an advice:
1) Will updating to ICS/JB (now only custom roms available) as compared to original HC help with video playback?
2) Are there any apps that you found that can play most of full hd videos? Friend of mine have tried almost all the popular ones but could not get any of them to play properly most of the full HD videos?
3) Will overclocking help with decoding? I saw several posts that indicate that some custom roms support overclocking. In some cases I got SW based playback to give almost good playback (HW based decoding did not work in all cases).
4) What is proper approach for mounting external drives that are in formats such as NTFS/exFAT? I am looking at this as some files might be bigger then 4GB limit of FAT32.
5) Is there a device that I can stream to 1080p from Galaxy Tab 10.1? Of course assuming that Galaxy Tab 10.1 can stream 1080p...
6) Do you have any other advice?
Kind regards,
Bo
This device does not have the processing power to play back most HD videos smoothly. By most videos I mean the HD x264 mkv/mp4 files which people watch these days. Overclocking will help but it's not guaranteed to make it play most HD videos smoothly.
Now there will be posts saying "Well I can play HD videos on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 just fine". This may be true but these people are likely not watching sufficiently high bitrate content that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 can't handle. On top of that they probably have overclocked the device as well.
Don't forget the term HD has become a broader and broader definition. So one person saying they have no problems with HD playback could be referring to HD Youtube app videos which are crap quality. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 can most definitely play this content just fine. On the other hand this device will struggle with most of the x264 HD television and movie files. The truth is most of the decent HD content out there today is beyond the capability of this device aside from the low bitrate and low quality stuff.
This device will not suit your needs if you plan on watching HD x264 mkvs or mp4 TV / movie files. You will not be able to play most of these files without having to re-encode them. I don't use any of the streaming services so I can't comment on that. Maybe it does work fine with Netflix, Hulu or what have you.
Decatf hits all of the key points. For taking HD content with you to play back anywhere your best bet is going to be encoding your files in such a way as to ensure smooth playback. You can play back 720p files that are encoded with the proper settings (basically as has been said the decoding capability of the Tegra 2 is limited) but don't expect to play back any HD file you download off the net perfectly. There are threads on the forum that talk about the proper settings in Handbrake to ensure smooth playback.
I haven't tried it but for playback at home perhaps a WD Live Media Hub would be a suitable companion whereby you control the device using their remote control application available in the Play store. Reviews on both the app and the device itself seem to be hit and miss so I'd carefully weigh them given your circumstances before buying (for example some reviews state that NAS support of the WD Live Hub is not great).

Only thing you have to be careful in case of h264 files is that they MUST be encoded in Baseline profile. This is a limit of Tegra 2!... I play very smoothly Full HD mp4 movies with this setting. In order to check the profile level, you can use the tool MEDIAINFO you can download freely from Internet.

Try overclocking the tab. A1 Kernel for example, has a bit GPU overclock and you can set CPU at 1,6GHz, try it at this freq and performance-cfq (governor-iosched) temporally.
Try the hw + option in Mx player
As per below in Mx player.
How to play HiDef movies/video on the Tab 10.1:
Install Handbrake
Download and install XOOM profile found here
https://sites.google.com/a/dibona.com/www/www/filestorage
or this one:
http://jccorporation.net/downloads/All 720p HD.plist
Rencode with this profile
Play
(rince, repeat)
Yeah as the above posts mentioned... It is the limitation of the tegra processor. I use my tab for watching movies. I had the same problem with the hd videos. Spending so much for a device like this and it wasn't able to play a good hd video.
Now I'm using Cm10 jelly bean build. Seriously man this is serious sh*t. Now I'm able to play almost all the 720p videos and this is more than enough for me. When a 1080p comes, I just avoid it....
Try flashing the jb rom. But with the latest build, you won't be getting the mic to work.

for NTFS you can use Ntfs Mounter, which can also mount Ext2/3/4 partitions on your tablet. You can also use Paragon NTFS & HFS+ or some other app to mount NTFS partitions but I don't remember the name

Yes, it is the limitation of the tegra processor, so the solution could be, as I said in previous post, in freeing the limitation by overclocking the tab. 1,6GHz with performance governor youtube HD videos works fine.

Is it that worth to over clock the tab to 1.6 GHz just to watch a video? Long overclocking can the fry the chipsets ryt? 1.6 GHz is bit too much for the tab and battery to handle I think when combined with online streaming of YouTube HD videos.....

Thread resurrection!
Is there a way I can get the tab to change the max cpu when I load YouTube and then drop back afterwards ? Maybe by using tasker or similar?
It's a real pain to keep manually changing the cpu speed.
I can't find anyone else with this problem, so I decided to come here where the professionals live.
My problem is that i'm 100% sure that this is an hd phone, as I've downloaded and played HD videos before, and the default background is HD. Whenever I run the youtube application, the maximum quality that i'm allowed to choose is 480p. Any help would be appreciated.
The resolution is qHD, youtube detects itself, so we cant have 720p on youtube.

Moto E 2015 has a 960x540 resolution screen. While the phone can handle playing higher-resolution video (I'm been able to play 1080p and 720p 10bit video in MX Player with no issues), the Youtube app limits to the resolution of your screen. Wish it at least gave the option for 720p, for the greater bitrate, but alas it's limited to 480p. Unofficial Youtube apps might give you all the resolution options, but I haven't tested out any to confirm.
