If you used Safestrap, then you should still have your stock ROM - just boot into Safestrap recovery and activate the stock slot.
If you used Safestrap to flash the stock slot, well, now you know why that's not recommended. Use the recovery images mistertac pointed you to, and spend some time reading before you flash again.

Phone bricked, help needed!!

Hi guys
I have just flashed Omega v8.1 to my phone and reflashed CWM touch, rebooted into recovery and now my phone won't boot. It turns on and just displays the "Samsung Galaxy S3" screen. I have tried flashing via the Galaxy s 3 toolkit but this requires USB debugging to be enabled. It looks as though it is not enabled as the toolkit does not recognise my phone.. The only thing I can do is boot it into download mode.
Any clues??
Thanks
If you can go on download mode, then flash stock firmware via odin.

Firstly your phone is fine, it can be easily fixed one way or another.
Can you still boot into recovery?
If not, reflash recovery using ODIN via Download mode
Once you have access to the recovery, try wiping the following:
Data/Factory reset
Cache
Dalvik Cache
Format /system (probably not required but just in case)
And then reflash the omega ROM, making sure it is not corrupt; maybe redownload/check MD5 sum to be sure.
If, for whatever reason you are still having problems with the phone not booting into Android, I would try flashing a different ROM for the time being.
Also, you posted this in the wrong section
Just flash the stock rom?
Yep bricked phone isn't really a problem, unless it's hardware related.

Ive tried flashing stock ROM via ODIN through the toolkit but this requires USB debugging mode. The issue is not with Omega as I was able to use my phone after flashing, I think the CWM flash didnt work properly.
How else can I flash via ODIN, the toolkit is the only way I know.
Thanks for the comments guys...

I d say, simply get odin separately, then re-create the same settings as when the toolkit does it.
It really is very simple once you ve done it once or twice Don t panic and take the time to make sure the right boxes are checked and double-triple check then reboot in Download mode, plug it in then gogo !

If I select flash via odin in the toolkit (option 8), it says make sure that USB debugging is enabled... If i try and continue it just waits for usb debugging and does not flash.

Ok, sry, then the toolkit reboots your device first to download mode via adb, take the already given advice to use Odin itself, just download it put the Rom tar (or tar.md5) into pda, make sure that only auto reboot and reset time is checked, reboot to download mode continue by pressing up, plugin the cable and press the start button at Odin.
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
Forget running the toolkit, forget USB debugging mode. You do not need it for now.
And there is no need to download or setup ODIN or anything like that.
Just go to folder/directory where you installed the toolkit (usually C:\Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit) and look for the file called 'Odin3_v3.07' or 'Odin3_v3.04' or whatever version you find. Then run it; tada, ODIN is running now!
Now, put your phone in download mode. To do this, hold VOL DOWN and HOME and POWER buttons together and let go when you see the 'Samsung Galaxy S III' logo come up.
Then it will load up a screen that says press VOL UP to continue (and enter download mode). Press it.
Now it should say 'Downloading do not turn off target!'
Connect your USB Cable and proceed to flash a new CWM recovery using ODIN
Then once you have flashed a new recovery, boot into it (VOL UP & HOME & POWER buttons together).
Then follow my instructions from my previous post.

If you want to flash a stock ROM instead of CWM + Custom ROM then you can do that via ODIN as well.

Boot into custom recovery (VOL UP & HOME & POWER buttons together)
Then:
Data/Factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot into Android and see if that has fixed it; if not, then go back to CWM recovery and do the following:
Data/Factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Format /system (probably not required but just in case)
And then flash Omega ROM again
how? CMW is not opening the phone is only able to open in download mode nothing else. Its a fault with OMEGA 8.1 mods or maybe siyah beta kernal
how to start in recovery mode? If i press the 3 buttons it takes me to download mode

Who has the best ICS ROM for At&T Note With Instructions - Donation !

I'm willing to DONATE and PAY for your time - to anyone that can put together a comprehensive set of information to assist me.
I have An At&t Galaxy Note with the 4.03 I717 UCLD3 version loaded on it. I have been toying around with rooting it, and trying to load custom roms, my head is spinning with all the posts.
I'm new, and like many people I have issues when I read the posts on this forum as there is no complete guide to load a new Root, find, and load a new ROM.
When the latest ICS was released a few weeks ago, I went to upgrade and my note will not upgrade with Kies since the counter has been tripped and it has the UCLD3 version on it.
Does anyone have the best ROM to load on the note, or can you explain in clear instructions how to get it back to 100% Stock so I can upgrade with At&t ( I'd rather not this approach, I'd love to get the junky At&t stuff off )
What I'm looking for:
1. A complete guide to root, and load a ROM that has everything the stock phone has, without the At&t bloatware ( IE: 4G, Spen support, compatible with samsung apps, keyboard etc.. )
2. A guide to bring the phone and counter back to 100% stock, so that it can be upgraded by Kies if no one can provide #1 above.
Thanks - I appreciate the help.
1. Get cwm HERE the Odin version.
2.once downloaded right click Odin and run as administrator, then click on the PDA slot and load the .tar you just got
(I'm sorry i don't have s link for Odin, shouldn't be too hard to find)
3 put phone in download mode by powering off, then holding volume down and power, then when prompted volume up.
4.connect to usb that's on a usb port in the back of the pc, no front ports or hubs.
5.when you get a yellow box with a :com: number in Odin hit start.
6a.(optional).no need to root first the Rom is rooted, only reason to root first is if you want to use titanium backup to save your apps and their settings.
For root, you'll need to find the su zip that's floating around and flash that in recovery first.
6b.(also optional)boot into recovery by holding all three buttons, both volume and power, then when you feel a vibrant let go of just the power button, go to backup and restore, abs make a nandroid backup of you're current set up.
7.go here for flappjaxxx latest stock based build.
Put that on your phone someplace you can get to without a bunch of navigating. Internal or external doesn't matter.
8.boot into recovery, go to wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache.
9.go to install zip for sdcard, now if you put the Rom on external the top option "from sdcard" is what you want. If internal the one on bottom that says "from internal sdcard" navigate to where you saved it, then confirm the flash.
Once done, boot into your new Rom and enjoy,
Not completely complete, but your welcome.
No donation needed, but i won't refund it if you were to feel the need lol
Agreed. I switched to twrp but cwm recovery is more user friendly/common
Pm me if you have any?s
ok 1st u will need to download this Root/CWM/ODIN
you will 1st need to put your phone into downlaod mode: power off phone - HOLD VOL DOWN + POWER, once you get the screen that shows Press VOL UP to get to download Mode, (make sure you have the Samsung USB Drivers installed) plug in USB, you will see the COM port in yellow (it does not matter which port number) then click on PDA and navigate to the cwm-touch-i717-120409.tar.md5 and click on start, you will reboot and you have CWM installed that is used to install roms and other stuff (to get in to CWM when device is powered off HOLD VOL UP + DOWN and press the POWER until u feel the 1st vibrate, once you see the 1st Samsung logo, u can let go), then flash Flash Counter Reset through CWM (this will reset your count in ODIN so it will not void warranty. I then use TWRP Recovery Instead of CWM i like the GUI better, just flash with CWM.
ROMS: no as for roms i love Hybrid roms, which makes it a tablet and Phone, i love Paranoid Android you can download here in either ICS or JB, these are already rooted so no need to do all then.
Instructions on Installing ROMS:
1. once you download the roms, move to External SD
2. make a back up with CWM or TWRP, just click on back up and u r done. on TWRP make sure to click on all boxes.
3. Once backed up u will want to do a factory reset, wipe dalvic Cache (in cwm it is under advanced) and wipe cache partition. (some roms will have different instructions but mainly the same)
4. once you r done flashing the rom. reboot and u r done
To Go back to stock you will go here: STOCK ROMS for i717 just download the one u want and you just flash it through ODIN, but if you have CWM or TWRP there is really no need for #2.
Need some help here...
I flash the cwm using odin but then it restarts the phone right after. Then I turn the phone off and go into recovery and I still see the stock recovery.
What am I doing wrong?
BTW the flash count is also going up each time I do it.

Corrupt Data/Cache Partitions[FIX]

Everyone here has - I'm sure since the release of 4.3, experienced a partial corruption of their data/cache partitions.
What happens is you will go to wipe data/cache and you will get an error for a certain folder or subset of files, or the partition cannot be mounted. This ends up causing unbootable system, a force close of an app you cant clear the data for...and just the pure inability to wipe these partitions.
So most of us have taken the long road of flashing back to pure stock via ODIN, using casual to reunlock the bootloader ect ect...very very annoying process. The reason this works however is because ODIN uses a different method to wipe partitions then the custom recoveries we have available to us. Custom Recoveries wipe headers of memory blocks, this is the actual process that creates corruption to begin with. While on the other hand ODIN zero's out not only the headers but the entire blocks - thus fixing the corrupt blocks.
Guess what?! Stock recovery uses this same Zeroing process. So the short simple way to fix this...
1. ODIN Stock MC3 Recovery tar - http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358550082
2. Boot into recovery, wipe data/cache
3. ODIN your favorite custom recovery back onto the device.
How much easier was that then fooling around with unlocking again? Enjoy.
Thanks @krowley3 for the tarball.
I can confirm this does work. I flashed TWRP 2.7.0.2 the other day, on reboot of recovery got a message like this:
Code:
///////////////////////////////////error
/////////////
too many files open in data/media/com.blah.blah
///////error
I then proceeded to do an advanced wipe, wiping internal, data, system, cache.. data would freeze and not wipe.
This also will happen with cache partition..
Following these steps did in fact work:good:
Works
I can confirm this also works.
I had a corrupt data partition whereby after one rom flash or another I could no longer install one of my apps. What I found was that in the /data/data/ folder I had remnants of this app that I could not delete. In my case, I could not install facebook. There was a com.facebook.katana folder in that data directory. In addition, I could not backup my rom. Wiping the data partition in Philz recovery still would not get rid of the folder and files. However, using odin and flashing the stock recovery I was able to delete those files.
The recovery goes in the pda slot.
After flash, it automatically booted, so I pulled the battery and rebooted into stock recovery.
Wiped data and factory reset in the stock recovery.
Rebooted into download mode and flashed a custom recovery tar file.
It was super easy. Granted I had to setup my phone again, but no big deal.
And let me just say thanks to @krowley3, @lacoursiere18, and @Deckoz2302 for their support and for keeping this phone going. :highfive:
I flashed the I605 pit file while flashing the stock MC3 recovery. It can be found here.
SCH-I605_16gb.Pit- http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?05cj895zu3tls7z
I did not check repartition, so it may have been unecessary. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/sh... /URL]link to a good discussion of pit files.

I was unsure at first also. You don't need to flash a new ROM at any point in this process. You will end up back on the same ROM you were working on before, but it will be same rom with data wiped. Just have to go through setup.

i didnt factory reset because i was worried i would end up without a rom. i just cleared cache with with the mc3 recovery. it may not be the right way and im not suggesting anyone follow my lead, but it fixed my problem

Yep spot on here. Same thing happened to me very recently and I was forced to Odin flash back to 4.1.2 and redo the entire process of unlocking my bootloader, upgrading firmware and modem to MJ9 etc all over again. Major hassle.
Question: why don't custom recoveries wipe the proper way? I mean if stock recovery can do it, surely the advanced recoveries we all use should be able to do it too no? I'm greatly looking forward to hearing about this topic in the future, it could be a great change for all custom recoveries.

Hey,
I'm getting this error as well after I went from 4.3 to 4.4 and I'l trying to backup to move over to the 4.4.2] DN3 (Ditto Note 3) ROM. I haven't flashed a bootloader only a stockrom...It there anything particular I need to do?
I'm currently on 4.4. SR KK with both TWRP and PHILZ imaged.
I'm going to fire up ODIN 3.7
download and flash the stock MC3 recovery. I assume I'm checking bootloader in ODIN
Then wipe and flash PHILZ...Is that it? I'll still be running 4.4 SR KK which I can then backup?
Thanks for the help!

After you wipe Data/Cache with the stock recovery how do you reboot back to Download mode?
Do you have to pull the battery?
If you don't boot back to Download Mode, the phone will completely reboot and force you into the Setup Wizard.

I didn't have to pull the battery, I just did when I missed chance to set the phone into download mode. It's easier to put into download when the phone is off.

Thanks. I hope I'm not misunderstanding you. I understand how to boot into Download Mode when the power is off. I wanted to know if there was a way to reboot into Download Mode directly from inside the MC3 Stock Recovery. The only option I see is a standard reboot.
After I perform the data/cache wipes in the Stock Recovery, I want to be able to go straight back to Download Mode so that I can flash Philz.
Thanks

I assume if you have the phone in hand you can hold the buttons as soon as odin completes the flash and catch it prior to rebooting all the way up.

I pulled the battery, because of the automatic reboot & what I think you are describing above.
As far as the pit file is concerned, it might not be necessary. See the thread linked below. Even though it is for a different device, the general discussion is relevant. From what I have read the pit file tells Odin what files belong in what partitions and the size of each partition. When you don't use odin to repartition your device, odin reads the pit file from the device itself. When I flashed with odin, I did not check the repartition button, so it was probably not necessary. But it couldn't hurt either.

I agree, it sounds like it probably isn't necessary to flash the .pit file unless maybe there is concern that the resident pit file has been corrupted.
Thinking further about pulling the battery, which I am reluctant to do...If in fact the only real risk of pulling the battery while in stock recovery is somehow corrupting or damaging the stock recovery, maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal since I am just going to replace it with Philz immediately afterward.

Your post is a little unclear. Did you try to flash UCMD3 again after doing the reset?
If not you should try that and see how it goes.
If that doesn't work the safest thing to do would be to download Samsung KIES from their official site.
Once you have KIES installed you can click on 'Upgrade & Initialization' and type in the information underneath your phones battery.
Once you type in the model and serial number you can plug your phone in to your computer in download mode and KIES will put it back to stock.
[If you brick your phone trying this it's not my fault. I'm not forcing you to do anything.]
Otherwise you could install TWRP 2.7. It's a recovery program you can install through ODIN.
It will allow you to do a better wipe of the phone and it will root it for you. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByoEy8x_JgpqTHRvRk5PVjhXTlE/edit?usp=sharing
That's the link to TWRP 2.7(newest) in my google drive. You can flash that in ODIN's PDA slot.
Afterwards do a wipe with TWRP and see if the phone boots. (An option will come up to root. Click no until you get it working.)
If it doesn't work wipe it with TWRP and then flash UCMD3 with ODIN again. Reboot. You should be fine.
Once the phone is working if you want it rooted just click yes in TWRP and it will root the phone.
Then when you reboot a notification will pop up asking you to install SuperSu. Do that via the play store button, NOT TWRP.
There you go, the phone should be rooted and all set. Let me know if you have any more problems.
Oh, and please press 'Thanks' if this helped you.
get back into stock recovery and do a factory reset, clearing cache just won't do.

Please help! Stuck at boot screen!

Ok, with all my wifi issues I tried a file called jfltevzw-wififix-FN2-NC2-w-modules.zip, as suggested through out the forum. I booted into recovery and installed the NC2 modem and then the fix file mentioned above. When I rebooted, I got hung at the unauthorized verizon software, take your phone back to verizon. I then tried to odin back to stock and start over. I'm on the MDK bootloader and (had) twrp installed. I got into odin and tried to install a stock no wipe rom. This one: VRUAMDK_NoWipe.tar.md5. In odin I tried installing this file, but instead of PDA, I did it in bootloader. Now, when I reboot my phone, I see the samsung splash screen, then the verizon splash screen and then it just sits there. I see animation on the verizon logo, but after 15min, I pulled the battery. Also, if I hold vol up and power on, I don't have TWRP, it just goes to the samsung splash, then verizon splash screen. I googled and searched but can find nothing on this situation. When I do start up my phone, I still shows custon unlocked screen before the samsung and verizon logos. How do I start over?
Just an update on my situation, after further attempts of fixing my phone, if I hold vol up and the power button, I can get into some sort of recovery. Its not my normal TWRP blue screen its just a small menu of items to choose from, in tiny blue writing. Hopefully this helps in someone suggesting something.
You're gonna need to flash the full wipe mdk tar to get your system to boot again. Then reroot via towelroot and install TWRP via Flashify. I would then suggest flashing the last NC5 modem.
Do not use those WiFi fix zips if you're on MDK, they're for Safestrap users only. What that zip did was upgrade your modem and nonhlos to nc2. Sometimes it will still boot but you'll have no audio and sometimes it soft bricks your phone.

If you have WiFi issues with a rom you flashed, PM me and I will help.
