Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' guide stickied in General is 'the Bible' for these situations. Find it, try as many of the things in the thread as you need to in order to get a successful Odin flash. These cases are almost always recoverable, and often fixed with perseverance, so it's not a case of trying everything in the thread once & giving up, because that will result in your phone taking an expensive trip to a Samsung service centre/local mobile repair shop or the bin.
That said, I'd be very surprised if you don't get it working again fairly quickly with Hopper's thread.

S3 White Screen & Grey Lines

Hey guys,
I see that there are a few incidents of this occurring having read the forum and Google. Some advise the device needs 'j-tagged' others seem to have been able to eventually gain access to the Recovery mode.
Here's the low down; S3 was flashed with Cyanogenmod 10.1 and was working fine for months. Last night, as normal, I switched over batteries to a fully charged one. On restarting the phone I was presented with warning about a firmware upgrade that went wrong (can't remember the exact wording as it was late and I was in bed at this stage).
On seeing the warning I tried restarting the phone but same again and then I set it down to deal with it today. Woke up to a white screen and grey lines. I can't get into Recovery mode.
Now I didn't try to upgrade the firmware or anything else, this message just appeared upon changing the batteries and therefore a power cycle.
Odin seems to see the device on Com 5 but after that I am not sure what else to do.
How can I flash a new ROM without Recovery access? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance guys,

Just an update for those that may have the same issue.
Sent the phone back to Samsung and they replaced the motherboard ("PBA MAIN") and LCD ("OCTA LCD SVC/RW").
Not sure why they replaced the LCD unless they damaged it replacing the motherboard? Either way phone was returned in new condition as I had originally had a few marks on the chrome strip around the phone, now gone. So well pleased.

I think I'm SOL

I have GS3 i9300 I got from someone off of craigslist. The phone was working fine when I tested it. I guess the forgot to take off a passcode . (Yes I feel dumb) . So now I'm locked out of the phone. When I tried to put it in download mode to reset the whole phone new , I get the dead android and the red triangle . Help Please ! I'll even donate ! :crying:
Looks like you need to read and understand the basics before you do anything else.
Go to general forum, stickies and learn about recovery mode and how to factory reset.

Samsung galaxy S2 issue

Hi Guys,
I am new here from South Africa.
I have a problem with my S2. It froze while I was in an application. Nothing would work and the phone just didn't want to power off as well. I then unclipped the battery and then started it up. The phone would not go past the screen which reads Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100.
Then I read up and watched a few clips on how to do the rerooting, etc. and attempted it but mine never completed using ODIN 1.85. I then unplugged the device from the PC as nothing was happening, now the phone does not want to boot up. All it shows on screen is a phone (cell phone) and a broken link to a PC.
What would I need to do? My service provider advise that they need to install a new motherboard and it would cost 2500ZAR to fix. I did not believe them as to me this is just a software related issue.
Any help will be appreciated to get my S2 working again.
I will post up a pic of what the screen shows a little later.
You're right about it being a firmware issue/not requiring a motherboard replacement - this is quite likely fixable by you (even though pulling the cable is the absolute worst thing you can do during a flash short of pissing on the phone)
That pic on the screen of the phone----PC means the phone is in 'forced download' mode. You need to flash a stock rom with Odin. Get one from Samfirmware, and flash it following the instructions in the thread stickied near the top of Q&A. If it fails to flash first time, search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread & try the stuff in that thread until you get a successful flash (hopefully you won't need it).
Thank you for that assistance. I will search for the threads your recommended.
Hi Guys,
A friend of mine will be looking at the phone and seeing what he can do. :good:
There have been a lot of "friends" ruining peoples phones on here....lol

[q] Guys, please help me im in cryisis

hey guys just last night i got back into using my galaxy s2 again because lets just say i had a bad phone after an update (apple)
so i decided to go back and i was currently at that time using "wanam Rom 14.6" and was loving it.
Then the tragic moment happened,
since the battery was running out really quick and my signal was really bad i remember in my computer i had a modem for good signal here in New Zealand. So it was a tar file and i used ODIN 1.85 and clicked the phone button then brought in the tar, then made sure i was in download mode and checked everything. BOOM it failed :crying: leaving me in horror until today. I was like WHAT? i did this a year ago exactly and was perfectly fine (i was on resurrection remix) i have know idea why this occurred.
NOT ONLY WAS I UPSET, but i couldn't do anything?
i tried flashing the stock firmware but that would fail ; http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-ap...ck-android-rom-on-samsung-galaxy-s2-50007880/
and i have know idea what to do, whenever i turn my screen on 'firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies and try again.
PLEASE HELP ME! i know this may not be important to you but please im in a crisis at the moment and i really need help, please help me resolve my problem and have my phone rooted and running again
PLEASE i need someones help, i have no clue on what to do
1) Chill out (and quit using stupid formatting). And if I see you bump a thread after 10 minutes on here again, you're not going to enjoy the consequences, trust me.
2) The phone is in 'forced download' mode.
3) You need to search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread & go thru the stuff in that thread until you successfully flash a stock rom.
you are a life saver
i just realised that i was not connected to the mother board on the computer, i was using a usb port in my kebyoard
Thank you so much
i just flashed a stock rom, and no its time for rooting
could you give me another good tutorial for rooting?
thank you again:good:

[Q] Help Phone not starting up !!! Urgent

Hello Guys,
I own a Galaxy S2 I9100G.. 2 months ago i flashed it and installed custom Rom of cyanogen mod version 10.1.3-RC2-i9100g ...
Last night i was browsing the internet when suddenly it got stuck and i had remove the battery to restart. But the problem is that it didnt restart.
I can only go in to download mode. But cant seem to flash via odin it fails atfer nand write. And i am not able to find the files for my mobile..as many files here were on hotfile server and it seems to have been closed.
Please help me regarding this matter how should i proceed?? how do i get it to start ??
Last resort would be to go the service center but i would like to try to fix it before.. And warranty also expired a while back ..
I get complete ( write) operation fail after nand write..
do u think my hardware has blown up or something ?? or is it just sofware problem ?
I am using odin V 3.04 .. On odin version 1.85 it usually doeant go on after nand write and stays on it ..
Please help me here .. I really would like to fix my phone : (
Can't you go to Recovery using Volume Up+Home+Power ? the symptoms you are telling are kinda dangerous. At what stage the Odin flashing fails? if its at the factoryfs, than i am afraid you are facing a super brick here.
Look for firmware on AndroidFirmwares.net or Samsung-Updates.com, you don't need to use the exact same firmware that was originally on the phone, any firmware for your carrier will do (make sure it's I9100G though) & if you're going to go back to a custom rom as soon as you get your phone working normally again, any firmware from any carrier will do.
Search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread, though some of the stuff he mentions is I9100 specific (advice to flash specific files) a lot of the other stuff is generic I9100x stuff which you should try if you find you can't get a successful Odin flash.
But if it keeps failing at NAND write having tried a lot of different I9100G stock firmwares, the NAND might be cactus, which means you need a motherboard replacement. But I'd try a lot of stock roms before I conceded that if I were in your situation. Often these things can be fixed by persevering.
@alvinasnow Nope i cant go into recovery mode.. If i could it would have been very easy after then.. Only download mode opens up.. And i tried different things flashing bootloader, kernel, firmware, pit,csc , everything fails at nand writing .. So is there a way out of this ??
@MistahBungle I was afraid that might be the answer motherboard replacement.. I tried different firmwares and even flashing via different Methods but its always the same.. i will go to the sites you mentioned to try more firmwares..
But i think my only option would be to go to a samsung service center i guess :-/ ?? they would be able to fix it right ???

Yep, but it's cheaper, faster and very easy to do it yourself
Inviato dal mio GT-I9100
Yep. Sourcing a 2nd hand motherboard online somewhere & either replacing yourself or paying a local mobile repair shop (non Samsung service centre) to replace will be much cheaper than paying a service centre to put a new board in.
So Basically there is no way to save my internal memory data :-/ ????
Changing the motherboard i guess would mean all gone with not a single hope of recovery.. OR i get to keep my data after the change ??
If you didn't back your data up, no. I guess you could contact companies who recover data from dead hard drives & maybe they can help, but that's a real longshot & will be very expensive if it's possible.
I did one back up 50-55 days ago when i went to custom rom .. so i will be losing pretty much only data in last month or so .. not much ..
But i still dont understand why the motherboard needs to be changed ?? i mean the download mode opens and everything .. odin fails to write ..
So nand failure basically means motherboard got screwed??
Are there other flashing softwares better then odin ??
I will have to actually wait till tomorrow to see what does samsung has to say in this regard as its off today ..So thought one last fight lol ..
And one more thing the battery is draining really fast and pretty much heating up in minutes when i put it on charge ..
And when i remove the charger .. the charging battery logo does not disappear i have to remove battery for it to disappear.. and the logo also stays when i remove the battery while the charger is still connected ..so have to remove the charger to make it go away .. basically cut all power for the logo to go away ..
As I said in my first post to this thread, you might as well keep trying/flashing firmwares, but you claimed to have already done a lot of that. What you're describing is symptomatic of the NAND being corrupted. It's too time consuming for service centres to replace just the NAND (removing/re-soldering components like that is fiddly), so they simply replace the whole board (and charge you a lot to do it).
OK...That extra information you supplied in your last post might give you an easier/cheaper fix. What you've just described sounds a lot like the USB board/port is on its way out. Replacing this yourself is cheap & easy to do (you just have to wait for the part to be delivered once you order it online); there's a guide in the General section which has all the info you need (search for replace USB charger board). Do that, then see if you can get a successful Odin flash. If you can, happy days. If you can't, then you replace the motherboard one way or another (or get a new phone).
This may or may not fix your problem; it may be a case of the NAND corrupted and the USB board needing replacing, but you're only going to know if you replace the board first.
You may fol a link in my signature for revival of ur phone.

flash stock
^^^^^
Did you not read the OP/rest of the thread as well ? He tried to do that on a number of occasions, but something was tripping him up.
Initially it seemed fairly obvious it was likely NAND corruption, though in the OP's last post to this thread, the things he mentioned suggested a faulty USB board may have been stopping him getting a successful Odin flash.
So it was suggested he replace that given how cheap it is to do, and to try flashing stock again. That was a week ago, and depending on where in the world the OP is, he may well be still waiting for the part to arrive.
Actually i got confused bcoz he again told he can boot in download mode then his mother board cant b faulty its the usb port maybe
