[Q] is this phone brick - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I just bought a att htc one off Craig's list and it is tampered/relocked. The phone boots straight into fastboot and there is no operation system on phone. I tried to use ruu to get it back to stock but it freezes at checking hash 5percent. I also tried to fastboot the ruu zip but it had an error verify 12 signatures. Are there any other suggestions that I could try to get an os back on this phone or is this phone pretty much bricked?

Unlock bootloader, install twrp recovery, sideload a rom zip.
There are numerous existing threads that describe how to do each step, just spend a little time reading first.

I don't think I can unlock the relocked bootloader without the token correct? Is there any other way to unlock a locked bootloader without the htcdev token?

Yes, you'll need an unlock token.

Flash radio after htc unlock?

Hello all, I used the htc unlock method, but I am not able to flash a different radio version.
Does anyone know how to do that?
(Just booting into bootloader does not do the trick like it would normal unlock methods)
Thanks.
Anyone?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
have you tried the commands
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot recovery.img
and flashing the radios from fastboot? or FlashimageGUI (which probably will not work for radios)
I have been wondering this myself. I have not heard of any methods that have come up to allow this recently. Same thing goes for splash images as I havent seen any method for those.
I have an idea of how it may be possible though. Perhaps someone else with a bit more knowledge can chime in to let us know if it is possible or not.
Anyhow.
Being officially unlocked I don't believe that ROOT is an issue like it is on an unofficial method. I know typically you would NOT accept an OTA to prevent the loss of ROOT. However, being an officially unlocked device, I am not sure if it matters.
I know that when I unlocked my device I had to manually unlock it, then I installed my recovery, then I simply flashed SU to it. My thought is that you can take the OTA. If the OTA doesn't work, you may have to re-lock the device, then run the OTA. But I believe the OTA would be safe. Once OTA completed, then flash your unlock token again, put recovery back on, then flash SU again.
Or I believe you could also wait for the new RUU instead of an OTA. Put on stock ROM, re-lock, run RUU, re-unlock, install recovery, flash SU.
The problem is that you may not be able to flash back to the previous radio once you are done.
Any thoughts on this?
UPDATE: I recently (like two minutes ago) learned that an RUU will not update a radio. I was under the impression that they did. Since it will not, I guess the RUU method will not work. Still curious about the OTA method though.
From the HTCDev Q and A:

Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

Well, yeah. The S stays on to protect the radio.
But the S would be on regardless if you never rooted to begin with, but an OTA would allow the radio to update. So, my thought is that you can potentially take an OTA with the HTC unlock method and get the new radio.
If it were me, I would save my titanium file to my PC (just as a precaution), I would re-lock my device using fastboot oem lock, then I would run the RUU that matches my current software version. This would return me to stock/unrooted. At this point you should be able to accept an OTA. The OTA updates your radio/software/etc. Once you update, flash the unlock token again, then flash the superuser binary back onto the phone. Now, this would be contingent that HTC doesn't go back on their word and they dont push an OTA that prevents you from unlocking the phone.
Now, Ill admit I am not a developer, so I am not an expert, but it is my understanding that once it is unlocked putting root on the phone is pretty straight forward. You don't have to come up with a root method such as revolutionary, etc. It should simply allow Superuser because it is unlocked. If this is not the case, then Ill admit that my thought process is flawed. However, if it is the case, then why not return to stock, take an OTA, unlock, re-root, use titanium? Like I said, may not be able to return to previous radio, but why would you anyhow?

Can someone tell me how exactly to accomplish the above?
I ran these commands and the it said "Installing update..." but the radio remains the same.

[Q] cant unlock bootloader or flash stock rom htc legend help

HI hope someone can help me with this, i have tried without success to unlock my bootloader, i have updated to hboot 1.02 but when i try to do the fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin it sits at 0percent and doesn't move and no errors, i've tried this with my goldcard in and out of the phone and with cyanogen and b08 roms, also for some reason i can't flash the stock rom so i can get the required update from htc(thinking that's y the unlock code won't go), i've tried getting numerous ruu's and i was getting signature verification fails every time, i tried with windows the exe and also exracted the rom.zip and still no luck, i prefer using linux and adb though and tried numerous ways to get this to work with no success, i've also tried signing a rom.zip and the phone just says no signature, also tried renaming to LEGEIMG.zip and update.zip and just can't flash stock rom, also made a new goldcard thinking the other was bad and did the htcdev for the unlock code with a goldcard and without, also tried the ruu.exe in windows with new said goldcard and i think the other was bad because i get a different error now for reason it can't update my rom(was using the rom i originally rooted with which has sense). it says wrong bootloader version when i try and update, anyone know what i can do, i'm running outta ideas, thanks in advance
I Unlocked my bootloader with HTCdev. You said you tried. What went wrong?
If you have updated your phone to one of the ruus HTC gives you ( execute the exe ), there shouldn't be any problem : the HTC guide is clear and easy. If you have successuffly unlocked the bootloader, now you have to flash the clockwork recovery.
when i go to fastboot it stays on copying at 0 percent with the unlock_code.bin....My phone has root access before i ran the hboot update and still does but i can't flash the new ruu, it won't allow me to, i tried running the htc ruu and it fails with can't update, bootloader version incorrect, i tried with the b-08 rom, i can't get back to stock
Have you tried flashing this? ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497357
If you don't install one of the updates given by HTC, bootloader unlock won't work. If you have the same problems that I had ( my Legend also wasn't rooted ) the RUUs won't install, right? I flashed first this one and then one of the HTC RUUs and after this everything worked perfectly.
nope, i didn't try that one yet, but the thing is my legend was rooted before i tried flashing these htc ruus, i just want my bootloader unlocked, i had cyanogen on it then flashed a rooted one with sense (b08) thinking that would let me update but it didn't, so i'm downloading that one you pointed me to now, i'll try and flash it and let you know how it goes.
When i flash that rom i get a main version is older error when i rename it to LEGEIMG and flash it via fastboot, what can i do now?
I followed Blayo's guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22613990&postcount=62 with my already rooted Legend. Try to follow exactly. You said using a gold card - don't think this is even necessary. At least I did not use one, and it is working perfectly.
After flashing the new bootloader, did you really unlock?
(last step of guide above: follow the instructions on HTCdev from Step 8 to unlock)
Wait, all the RUUs you have to flash before unlocking are HTC's executable files ( .exe ). You have updated your phone executing them, haven't you? After that I just rebooted my phone to fastboot and connected it. I found the unlock code, sent it to HTCdev, received an e-mail with the file to complete unlock and then unlocked. I never used anything like UPDATE.zip or LEGEIMG. I tried following the BlaYo's instructions but they didn't work for me. I just did what HTC said ( easyer and safer ).
hmmmmm

i solved my problem, i sold the phone and bought another legend. LOL, no seriously though, i did sell it and got another but i tried everything and couldn't unlock bootloader, i tried the exe files from htc, tried extracting the zip files, tried fastboot and renaming to LEGEIMG, just couldn't get it unlocked, so i flashed the latest cyanogen 7.2 and sold the darn thing, now i got another and made 50$ in the process as i bought the new one 50$ cheaper and i'm going to go through the htc channels to unlock the bootloader but does anyone know if i'll be able to flash cm7 after i do that?
bootloader
I have a similar problem with my Legend i had already rooted my legend following this guide http://chrg.zxq.net/htc-legend-root.html. What do you mean with 'rooting again'? Once you have unlocked bootloader, you are able to flash a recovery, and then CM, which is rooted. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24102979 for latest Recovery and latest CM7.2 builds
Ok just to update i flashed the HTC dev bin file again and had restore cm7 backup and bootloader is unlocked once again.
got her goin good now, unlocked bootloader with htcdev, fastboot flashed cwm, then i was able to flash cm7.2 and gapps no problem at all, now if we could only s-off the legend???

For what reason? It's quite similar
Because it's still not totally unlocked

After unlocking boot loader:
1. Use htcsupertoolv3 to root
2. Install rom manager and titanium backup
3. Run titanium backup. It will ask you to update su. accept (i'm not sure if this step is required, but this is how i done it)
4. Copy recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-legend to your Android folder created during bootloader unlock
5. With your phone on fastboot mode open terminal in your PC android folder and type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-legend.img
Your phone will go to recovery mode.
6. Reboot your phone in normal mode
7. From now on, each time you want to go into recovery, use rom manager
Done

So for what I have understood from HTCdev, you can do everything similar to S-OFF, with one exception: you cannot unlock a SIM lock.

True, you can't. I'm not sure if flashing a custom rom will unlock it, as my phone sim card was unlocked from very beginning. Probably not?

If the RUU doesn't work, the other two alternatives are to attempt to flash the stock system.img and stock boot.img through fastboot .. although I'm not sure this will work with S-ON, depends on whether or not the device is locked/unlocked via HTC's official method.
Also, the second alternative, could use the PG*zip file which is stored inside the RUU. the zip file can be extracted from the RUU and placed on the root of the sdcard. Then the bootloader will grab this file and flash, essentially performing the same thing as the RUU would.

How do I re-unlock my bootloader?

Hi everyone.
I'm S-off, SuperCID, 4.16.401.9 firmware, and I re-locked my bootloader while troubleshooting an adb problem.
Is there a simple fastboot command that'll unlock my bootloader again?
I can flash recoveries via the Flashify app, but I can't do much via adb anymore.
Thanks!
How did you unlock it the first time? HTC Dev Im assuming, should still have the unlock token bin file...thats run from bootloader via fastbootusb command...This should be in Questions and Answer forum...??

That's weird.... I thought I posted this in the Q&A forum. I was just in there looking for it and I thought it'd gotten deleted or something. Oh well.
Mods, please feel free to correct my goof.
I didn't use HTCDev to unlock. I just did Sunshine and it handled everything. S-off, unlock, and root - Talk about painless! After that I installed a custom recovery (Philz) and I was off to the races.
So I decided to SuperCID my phone so I can install whatever I want. No problem.
Then I tried to install 5.0.1 firmware (4.16.1540.8) so I could run SkyDragon, but the firmware posted on page 1 in the thread would not install- 4.16.1540.8
Kept giving me "FAILED (REMOTE:24 parsing android-info fail)"
I was able to install 4.16.401.9 with no major headaches, once I found a sensible upgrade path. That one is working fine, but I don't understand why 4.16.1540.8 would not install.
After googling the error, I found a post from Scotty a while back that said the phone wanted to see a stock recovery, locked. So I thought I'd throw the old recovery back on and do the 'fastboot oem lock' command . I didn't think it would impact the phone's operation since it is S-off. Well, the command worked, but I still wasn't able to flash the dang firmware I wanted to my phone.
So now I'm S-off, locked bootloader, PhilZ recovery (put it back on with Flashify), SuperCID, on Lollipop, and I guess everything is ok. But I still don't understand why the phone wouldn't take the firmware.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
If you ran sunshine on it,you can run it again i believe on that same device. It should unlock it again,if not then can try htcdev as it also uses fastboot to unlock as long as you can get adb to show needed code.

In the past (at least on my One X EVITA) my understanding was that s-off meant that all security was bypassed. Meaning that bootloader check was effectively bypassed.
This isn't the case for the M8. From what I can tell a LOCKED bootloader still prevents you from flashing anything that isn't signed (anything "unofficial") even if s-off.
However, having an UNLOCKED bootloader doesn't seem to affect anything while s-off. Meaning you can do things like RUU when UNLOCKED (which normally needs to be LOCKED or RELOCKED if s-on).
In short, I don't ever recommend relocking the bootloader if s-off on this device. There isn't any reason to, as far as I can tell. Meaning, having an UNLOCKED bootloader doesn't prevent you from doing anything. However, a RELOCKED bootloader does (even when s-on) prevent some things.

Relocking Bootloader V20j?

Hi, I awant to root my H901 by unlocking bootloader (V20J). However, my concern is can it be locked again as I will sell it after a month or so and I don't want any bootloader unlock alert at startup? Has anyone tried to relock? Plz let me know, thanks.

To relock the bootloader follow the following instructions:
Put your phone under the fastboot mode
enter the following commands: fastboot oem lock
Keep in mind that while your boot-loader is locked, you will not be able to root or flash ROMs to your phone.

Thanks. Yes I can unlock the bootloader again to gain root but I have read in unlock thread guide that relocking might have unknown results. Have you or anyone else tried relocking personally?

You should not re-lock you bootloader if you have root but if you are going to trade in your phone or sell it then you should definitely re-lock your bootloader after you flash a stock ROM.
Bump..... Anyone successfully relocked bootloader without any error and got rid of unlocked bootloader at startup?
