I have that unchecked but CiQ is still on. I use the Carrier IQ Detector by Lookout Security and it says that CIQ is detected.

My best guess would be that since it's still installed it will be detected. Just because you can turn it off doesn't mean it's been removed. Until someone builds a CIQ free ROM that would be a normal result.

If you're rooted, you can use a file browser to remove ciq. Go to System/app, rename all ciq related apps by adding .bak to the end. Then go into system/lib and do the same to the file that starts with libiq

[Q] No Root Screenshot It not working?

I downloaded it, enabled it, blah blah blah. However, after I "take the picture" (it just says that the picture will be taken after 5 seconds, I wait, nothing happens so I assume it took the picture) I have no clue where it saves said picture. Then, why I try to open the app it doesn't take me to settings or anything, it shows a white blank screen for a bit then that goes away. What do I do?
Have you figured this out? I'm having the same issue and already sent an email to support for this.

Use an app called ShootMe from the market.
It'll save the pictures to a folder on your SD called ShootMe and the gallery picks up the folder automatically.

Shoot Me requires root access. I'd assume by the name of the thread title that he hasn't rooted his phone.
OP, when you go to your gallery, does it show up? If not, you may need to reboot to have your SD card recognize the file OR you can use the very handy app called "SDRescan" which does this without a reboot. After you use it, it should show up in the gallery.
tflogic, I tried the SDRescan app and the screenshots are still not there. I have no idea where it saves all the files, but everytime I try, it says the picture will be taken in 5 seconds and nothing happens.
And yes, I have a no root phone.
Thanks in advance.

Can't find "Install from Unknown Source" option in settings (Jelly Bean)?

Hey guys!
Trying to recover some of my apps on my new Jelly Bean ROM but Titanium says it can't because installing apps from unknown sources is blocked. So I go to Security in settings and theres nothing there to allow manual app installs...in fact, the option is no where in settings.
Are we not allowed to install apps from outside the App Store or is this setting something that is just missing?

Yeah I started by doing that....but I decided it was taking too long and it would be easier to do an "adb shell ls" in /system/app and just copy and paste the names of the ones I wanted to get rid of into a zip
Although looking back, that way would've been quicker than making this...but whatever
Just curious. To anyone who has run this, how much space did it free up on the internal storage?

I believe /system has its own, separate amount of storage...so deleting these doesn't get you more space in /data
Not 100 percent sure on that though.
Yeah, just looked in Titanium Backup, System has 1.84GB and Data has 12.2GB
And anyway, these apps are a few megabytes...so....at most maybe a couple hundred megabytes of system are freed up

Just open the zip(don't extract it), navigate to "META-INF\com\google\android" and copy updater-script to your desktop(or anywhere really). Then open it with notepad(I used notepad++, but notepad should work fine) and edit the line that says "delete("/system/app/......". When you've finished adding or removing the apps you want to keep or want to remove save the file and copy and paste it back into the zip.
Let me know if you need me to clarify anything

I let all the bloatware apps update via the Play Store when I restored my phone after unlocking. It freed up 200MB for me on the data side, no idea on the system side.
Looking back at it, I think the removal of HTC_Widget_ShowMe.apk/HTC_Widget_ShowMe.odex gets rid of all the HTC Widgets. If so, does anyone happen to have a copy of them so I can push them back to my phone?
EDIT: OK, clearly I am a moron, the ShowMe removal did not affect the HTC widgets. I still don't have things like the Mail widget when I go to put a new one on 1 of my screens though. I can see the APK via Root explorer. Anyone have any idea on what the issue may be?

Whew, thankfully it's not just me... anyone else confirm that they cannot add any new HTC branded widgets? Or, if you ran this script and can still add widgets, did you omit any of the APK's from the script?

[MOD] Enable Camera Shutter Sound Menu

Since the Note 3 is new, and so far, there is only one custom Rom, I've seen the "how do I disable camera sounds" question asked a few times.
I'm sure your favorite developer will incorporate this feature, into future Roms, like they have in the past, for previous devices. This is mainly for us impatient noobs.
You must be rooted. Using a root explorer, navigate to /system/csc. Backup your feature.xml. Navigate to /system/csc/SPR/system/csc. Copy feature.xml. Navigate back to /system/csc. Paste the new file, over writing the old one. Open the new feature.xml, scroll to the camera section, and change:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</
CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
to:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</
CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Save, exit,
Set permissions to rw-r--r--
Reboot
Note: I used 'Root Explorer'. ES File Explorer may also work.
Here is a list of potential csc parameters, gathered from other phones. I didn't create this list. I found it about a year ago, and thought it might be interesting, to play around with.
Edit: the text file came from @kkoolpatz

I edited the OP, to make it clearer, and modified the method, slightly.
One other possibility. Backup your feature.xml. Navigate to /system/csc/SPR/system/csc. Copy feature.xml. Navigate back to /system/csc. Paste the new file, over writing the old one. Open the new feature.xml, and change:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</
CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
to:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</
CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
(You're changing 'false' to 'true,)
Save, exit,
Set permissions to rw-r--r--
Reboot
Very useful. Thank you.
Thanks for the clarification in the OP. I now got it to work. Problem I had before was that I did not realize that I was simply changing false to true. Super simple.

Great! It's good to hear that the instructions where clear enough to be followed. There's a lot more that can be enabled, such as using the camera during calls. It's the same principle, just a matter of searching through the feature.xml, and flipping or changing the variables.

I had a bunch of these edits, when I had my Note 2. I'll have to dig through, and see what additional features we can enable on the Note 3. Any help is definitely appreciated.

I'm not sure what the problem is. ES File had some problems with root, about a year ago, but I thought they got that fixed. I use it everyday, but not the root functions. Maybe you can try going into SuperSU, selecting ES File, and tapping "forget", then go back into ES, and accept the SU prompt.

Can't lock phone and can't use a new keyboard

Hi all. I'm on NC5 rooted and have two problems.
The first is that I can't set up a lock on my phone. All of the options are grayed out and it says that it has been"turned off by administrators, encryption policy or credential storage. Except none of the apps in the administrator section (android device manager or samsung knox) have been enabled, there is no encryption policy, and when I uninstall all certificates, the problem still remains.
The second is that the phone keeps reverting back to the samsung keyboard. After I set swiftkey as the default, it just switches back to samsung. Swiftkey isn't being greenified or anything else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yeah I can. When I do, it says Samsung KNOX and Android Device Manager. Both are unchecked.
OK can you clear credentials at the bottom of the security page?
Try freezing the Samsung keyboard to get your phone to stick to swift key.

I have tried clearing credentials. I still have the same problem.
Did you use the downgrade method to root, or did you have an MDK S4?

The issue you are having regarding the lock screen is common and if you read the comments on Surge ' s thread you will find your solution. You will need to comment out a line in your build.prop.

To fix the "lock" issue, make the following change in build.prop found in system folder using Root Explorer or an equivalent app.
Find the line:
security.mdpp=none
And add the # symbol as noted below:
#security.mdpp=none "
Perfect! Thank you so much. This worked.
