Yes.
Custom recoveries can't flash firmware, only ROM's. You need RSD lite to flash firmware. Make sure you have the correct firmware for your region, Download RSD lite, read/watch some tutorials to learn how to use it, and you will be golden.

Only blackscreen after flashing and restoring!

I just tried to flash Artics old rom but when i'm rebooting, the screen just get black. So i tried to restore the rom with my Nandroid backup, but I get the same problem, just a black screen.
What am I going to do?
I have Safesystem enabled (using Safestrap)
Tried to flash FTS instead but now the phone is stuck in a bootloop.

Yeah I know, but I can just turn the phone off holding down the power button and volume down button, then going into safestrap and disable safe boot then I can use stock rom again. So the stock is working, but not any other custom rom.

HELP! soft bricked motorola razr xt910

Hello
I need immediate help!
Here is what happened. i have motorola razr maxx xt910 MERetail with stock rom. i install BMM recovery manager and then installed CM 10.1 on second slot/system. then i found out SS recovery manager is better so when i was in second rom, i installed BMM apk, hit uninstall and then install SS apk -> install SS recovery. after reboot, nothing boots up!
i only see the motorola logo and then it goes blank.
i tried to flash (through default motorola recovery menu) cm 10.1 and also a stock jellybean rom created by Hashcode (http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/umts_spyder/aosp) but both errors on package signature verification. what can i do?

by default, it had ICS stock (4.0.4).
any ROM will do or it must be ICS and must be MERetail? EU firmware will work as well?

I did the same last night, using RSD Lite 6.1.5 and it said FAILED. Also tried to flash boot, recovery and system img files via Fastboot, also failed. I can enter Fastboot and stock recovery and that's about it. Also tried to flash Nandroid backup via custom recovery but it said "signature verification problem, installation aborted".
I'm out if ideas what to do. If someone can help, please do.

I just did the RSD format and i worked. make sure you follow the steps on getting into the fastboot recovery menu and it should say "ready" until you can force flash via RSD and appropriate rom file.

Please brother, can you post your process step-by-step and I will try your way, I have all the files needed but it just won't work. It is visible in Fastboot cause it shows the device's serial number, but in RSD Lite it says N/A under the device description. Also, fastboot says my CID is 5, don't know is it related to this issue. Flashing from stock recovery comes up with "signature verification failed", whatever I tried: ICS, JB, ICS backup, update...
Also, Fastboot menu says (first line) flash failure. This is my first Motorola phone and I really don't know what to do anymore, I'm pretty desperate. Is it possible that no one can help in this case? As for the HTC HD2 with Android ported, I shared my knowledge and experience which helped many users fix their issues. As for the Razr, I've been reading for days and nights since it was bricked and couldn't find the solution yet.

I had european version of Razr, XT910. My phone was running CyanogenMod 10.1.3 Stable in Stock rom slot with custom recovery BootMenu Manager. I wanted to install CM11, but i need SafeStrap to do it. I deleted BMM, installed SS 3.65 for umts_spyder. When i done reboot, it boots into SS recovery, and when i click on boot into system, it loads only darkscreen. I want to flash it with stock firmware(retail EU 4.0.4) with RSD lite. I had to flash my phone with this utility several months ago, but then it works great! Now it flash normal, but on final reboot it loads green robot, such that, that must be on update Android. And it doesn't load. When i tried to flash it with Fla**** Utility, it writes "can't find webtop_signed". There is no this file in my firmware archive. How i can get this file and save my phone? It flashed all other parts, so it now on charge, and battery OK.
p/s/Sorry for my bad english, cause i live in Ukraine

You can't flash european XT910 with matlgrof's utility, you must do it with RSD Lite.
What green robot?Lying on his back with the red triangle?
If it's like that, when you see it just press vol- and vol+ and then select factory reset.
And btw,you didn't have to erase BMM,you should only replace META-INF folder in CM11 zip with other META-INF folder from some other rom that can be flashed with BMM,for example Slimkat.

I think that when you see android standing you must wait him to finish whatever he is doing.
Where you have the option hard reset? When you're in fastboot mode?
Have you tried to flash with RSD different fastboot files?

I solved my problem. I find webtop file and flashed it. But i can't understand, why i can't change my recovery? What i must to do to normal install safestarp?

[FIXED]Need help. Phone Bricked :'(

I was running fine with BMM. Then I decided to switch to SafeStrap and installed it through the apk. Later I wanted to get back to BMM so I uninstalled safestrap, and just out of curiosity I rebooted it to check if it still starts without the recovery. It didn't. I tried flashing the stock rom through RSD. I had erased my CID a while back. Now the firmware I flashed through RSD, I was unsure which to flash. I tried flashing these firmwares:
9.8.2O-124_SPUEM-14_S7_USASPDRICS01VFGE1007.0R_USASPDRJBRTVFDE_P011 _A011_p2b_S1FF_fb_CFC.xml
9.8.2O-124_SPUEM-14_S7_USASPDRICS01TMOGE1007.0R_USASPDRJBTMDE_P011_ A019_p2b_S1FF_fb_CFC.xml

I live in India. Both are jellybean firmwares. I read somewhere that asian users can flash eu firmwares. So I went ahead and flashed but none of those boots my phone. I get Motorola logo and then blank screen. I'm using RSD Lite 6.1.6. Can somebody guide me as to which firmware should I flash? I'm having panic attacks since last night... :-|
EDIT: Fixed by booting to BP Tools from the bootloader. This is what happens when your cid is erased. Thank you XDA :victory:

[Q] xt910 bricked after flashing cm 10.1.3 Help!!!

U Hello xda,
I've decided to root my xt910 and install cm rom. Root went smoothly however i had problems with the custom recovery. At first i tried safestarps but i couldn't flash the zip it keep aborting the installation :
Set_perm some changes failed. I've tried to install cwm 5.0.8.0 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751826 but i got status 7 trying to flash the rom after factory reset and wiping cache. Couldn't find in updater scripts the assert part that i need to delete to make status 7 disappear because of compatibility. I tried to wipe dalvik cache and formatting system which afterwards i manage to flash the rom. At the end i received message "if rom wasnt flashed on rom slot - 1 phone will not boot!!! This will be fixed soon. "
When i tried reboot system nothing boots. And when i try to boot to recovery i get to stock recovery although i had installed cwm.
Now i end of with a bricked phone. My questions are:
1. How can i unbrick?
2. I backed up nandroid with cwm but i cant acces cwm only stock recovery? Why is that and how can i get to cwm?
3. Why my phone is not booting? I did not flash with safestarps so it wasn't flashed on rom slot-1
4. I only have acces to stock rom, ive download a firmware update Jb 4.1.2 can i flash it with stock recovery to solved my brick?
Am i still rooted? Because i read i need to unroot before updating. How can i unroot if i only have stock recovery?
Please help!!! I can't afford lossing this phone!
