[Q] Rooted with CM11 but how to mount partition to RW? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I just about got through the rooting of my phone. But now I unable to edit files as i want to. Mostly replacing boot animations and lock sounds and the like. I was advised that my "partition" will be set to read only and needs to be set to RW. Ive searched the forums but cannot find a "noobs" guide to doing this.
Ive tried file browsers that say they switch the mode to RW when copying and pasting files, but i guess they cant change the mode unless its been set to RW in the first place?
Can anyone help me find a guide or help me through?
Thank you for all your support!

I use an app called "root explorer"

you will see a button right at the top of the image that says "mount RW"
Selecting this option allows copying and pasting of files to protected storage.....simples
Edit.....the built in file manager (that comes with CM) will also allow this.....

Purchased and "copy failed" when i tried to copy a "bootanimation.zip" to "system/media
also failed when i tried to copy an .ogg to System/media/audio/ui
I set the app to RW mode.
Ive already treid this with both SuperUser and RootBrowser
What can i be doing wrong?

Have you tried the CM file manager?
Open the app, press settings and scroll to advanced to enable root access and allow the su request.
Then go to the directory you want to modify. Look at the screenshot...
you will see a lock symbol at the top....touch the symbol to toggle RO and RW.....

yes thats on unlocked mode to RW. In fact i find it very difficult to use. Cant seem to copy file to new directories with it. WHen i select a file there doesnt seem to be a "copy" option only a make a copy which duplicates it in the same folder. When i try to "move selection" it tells me Destination folder cannot be sub folder of source or be same as source." i see no option for copy or paste?
ho hum getting a bit fed up with it all...

Oh....I see.....
You select the file you want to copy by "checking" the box to the left of the file, then navigate to the folder where you want to copy it to, then, using the "two columns of 4 dots" button, select "copy selection here".......

Thank you for all you help but despite the padlock being "open" all i get is "operation failed." The file permissions match of my new ".ogg" , the file name matches and the file is in the system folder waiting to be moved to the correct folder system/media/audio/ui to Unlock.ogg. I know the ogg is good as it plays on my phone ok.
I can edit the original Unlock.ogg to rename it ok, to Unlock_old.ogg no problem???
I have to say i was really optimistic about being able to play with my phone since rooted. Now i feel powerless
At least i now how to use the CM file manager properly even if it doeskin work for me.
Is there anything else it could be?

1) Chill out. You're giving up too easily on something ridiculously minor. If you don't have the patience for having to fiddle around with something like this, prepare to be constantly annoyed/impatient. If you mod your phone, stuff like this happening is standard (leave it stock if you want a completely trouble free experience).
2) Try fix permissions in recovery (no, I am not spoonfeeding you how to do this, you should already know, if not, search).

yes i am unable to find fix permissions in CM Recovery 6.0.4.7
I have three apps for Root browsing and files managing. All fail even though they say they are in RW mode. I guess this "permissions" is the wau to go. I am not asking to be spoon fed folks just pointed in the right direction...:good:

You might need to check that your apps have root access in developer options within settings.......
I'm assuming you *have* got developer options enabled.....
Sent from my Markox powered KitKatted S2

Ok ive checked. RootBrowser has full superuser access, not sure if this is same as developer access. It says it has the read/write ability and this can be potentially dangerous indicated by "#" in the about app system info. Assume that's full user access.I can rename files in the system folder and i can allegedly delete them. I am unable to paste new ones into the folder however. I can change permissions of files, without full access would I not be able to do these things?

It would *appear* that you have full root access, but it's best to cover all the possibilities......
So, enable developer options, then if that doesn't work, go to recovery and try wiping cache and dalvic.....
If none of the above helps, then I really don't know what else to suggest..... Other than re flashing the ROM.........
Sent from my Markox powered KitKatted S2

Sorry developer options are enabled and USB debugging right fro the word go. i.e straight after flashing ROM. I wiped the cache and delvic before flashing the ROM.
Guess its a full back up and start again sigh.
Thanks for all your help guess my case is just one of those that gets fixed by "switch it off and on again" if you know what I mean
Of course for a noob complete backup and restore if just as daunting as the first time!

NC 3d Custom Boot Animation [6/28 update]

Since tinkering with things is a hobby of mine coupled with an ongoing infatuation with Blender3d I decided I'd spend some time working on a few new boot animations.
Admittedly I only have a basic understanding of the boot animation format but I'm going to render some frames out and see what I can do. Neat stuff is neat.
Here's a few frames from my first test animation..

I've started with a new CM7 boot animation since I use CM7+DalOC+SDcard boot on my own Nook Color.
If anyone has any other ideas or a wishlist drop it in here and I'll see what I can come up with. We are limited by only our imagination.
looks good!
Good job and good luck.
Mmm looks like a green lantern android. Moar plz!
Looks like it's gonna be an awesome boot animation, I've always loved trying out new one, and it looks like this ones gonna be amazing! Awesome work so far, and good luck finishing it off.
I like! Nice start

Hey guys,
First bootanimation is ready to go. This is the full screen .png version. Runs fine on my nook. I tested a smaller res version on my nook and it didn't make much of a difference so I ended up just leaving it full screen.
Quality on the nook is much nicer of course...

Download bootanimation.zip :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SPBBE750
Instructions for installation:
1) Download and install the free E S File explorer on your nook
2) In the settings menu enable all the root options
3) Connect your nook to your computer USB and transfer the bootanimation to a spot you know where to look from E S File explorer
4) On your Nook use E S File explorer to copy the bootanimation.zip from that drop folder to the /data/local directory. You can delete the other bootanimation.zip that is there if you are replacing something.
5) Done. Reboot. Rejoice.
There may be other ways to accomplish the same thing but this is the method I used for my SDcard install.
Hmm, my bootanimation.zip stays in the /system/media folder... Not sure if mines different for some reason, but I've never heard of putting it in the /data/local directory...
Must be different on an SD card install, I'm running off of eMMC.
Oh, and holy crap, that animation is huge! Can't wait to try it out, but my Nook is out of commission at the moment, got it taken by my parents
I'm going to render out a red and cyan version of this same animation since I already have the models, lighting and effects in place. After that I'll probably switch it up with something different.

Sounds great, always loved cyan myself. Wish I could try it out right now!
Edit: hmm, when I go to the download link it tells me the file is temporarily unavailable... Anyone else have it? Could you attach it or post another mirror of it?

My pleasure, it's fun making things like this because it keeps my skills sharp and serves a purpose.
The cyan version is incoming in a day or 2 I just got busy with some other stuff.
I am downloading the red one. My sister and I will love this! Thank you!
OK, now where do I copy this file?
I am running CM7 N107 from SD & don't find any of the folders mentioned. Do I need to be looking at the "Boot" partition? If so, that is only available to me if I put the SD card in my PC. Am I replacing a zip file, or installing this zip via booting into recovery? Please expand on the installation steps.
Thanks,

installation
I didn't install this particular boot animation yet (but Dling ).
The way I accomplished this was to rename original bootanimation.zip to st else (old.bootanimation.zip).
Then copy new animation to the same folder as older one was. Reboot .
I found mine in root-system-media
/system/media
Hope this helps .
P.S. connect NC to PC via cable (or wifi), copy zip file to SD card. Disconnect, open file browser, copy or move zip file to the folder above to replace bootanimation.zip.
Oh one important thing - you need to have rooted NC and have root access - your file browser must have root privileges. I used ES explorer if I rememeber correctly.
Do not unzip or alter the .zip file.

Hi bug,
1) open E S File Explorer
2) set all the root options to enabled and press the home button upper left
it will show a little house when you are in the correct mode
3) scroll till you find the data folder and click on it
4) inside this first data folder will be a Local folder .. click on that to open (not the data folder within the data folder if you have one)
5) insert or copy the new bootanimation.zip over the old one
It's only a few clicks to get this done on a SDcard CM7 install. I'm not sure of the installation of custom boots on the other installs since I haven't used any of those yet.
How bout a cwm flashable zip? Would make the process of installing your boot animations a breeze. Ill try and prep one tomorrow mornning. Unless someone beats me to it. I hope someone does.

Thanks for your response. On my system, the bootanimation.zip is located in system/media.
Problem is when I try to rename the file or paste the new file in the folder I get " Sorry, operation failed."
I get a "failed to mount" when I select "mount File System" under settings.
At launch I saw a message that ES File Explorer had been granted SU Permissions. I am at a loss for what to do now.

Move security app to \system\app directory: Will it be installed after factory reset?

Is it possible to move an app and its files to that directory on rooted phones? Don't apps in that directory automatically stay installed after a factory reset?
I'd like to install PhoneLocator there in case I lose my phone and the person that finds it does a hard reset. Obviously you'd need to also move the file that holds the specific user's login/password info to be able to communicate back after a reset.
If not, is it possible to just unpack the rom I'm using and then stick the files in there?

Yes, if it is installed in /system it won't be deleted on a factory reset. However, the data in those apps gets wiped. Making the data NOT wipe from that app maybe challenging.

It would take a little bit of work but you could add a script w/ the needed data on the system partition to replace it in case of a wipe. Of course an RUU could still wipe it out but the odds of that being used are slim.

everybody is spot on and it is an interesting question/challenge.
the simplest implementation i can think of would be to store your final version of the application's settings on the /system partition .. i'd hide it somewhere since we're doing this all covert stealth like .. and have a simple script on boot copy the application's data settings from the /system partition back to the /data partition on every boot.
the downside would be remembering, whenever you make a change to the application's data settings you would need to copy it back over the /system location, otherwise the /system version would overwrite it on boot.
if you are running a custom kernel, they often allow for scripts in a custom created /etc/init.d/ .. otherwise you can tag up something decent looking that is called from the stock /init.rc
a little more complicated of an implementation would be to write an android app (stored to /system/app) which uses root permission to copy the hidden application's data settings from the /system partition to the /data partition on every boot. the android app could hide itself from the application tray and be trigger via secret dialer code!
the app could also detect changes to the /data directory settings and copy it back over the /system directory ...
hope that helps contribute a bit to the logistics of implementing the idea!
/system/etc/init.post_boot.sh would be the perfect spot to hide the script if you went that route. It already gets called with the stock ROM and the odds of someone finding it there is slim to none. The data itself could be zipped up and placed anywhere. eg. "/system/lib/lib3dstuff.so"
If you use a custom ROM that you think may get switched you could even go so far as to modifying the recovery to reinstalling the files needed for it. That way if they switch to stock from CM or something like that it would still be there, you would just need to make sure that script gets called or that the recovery at least replaces the app's data.
Thanks for the great replies, a lot of great devs that I've actually heard of in here giving advice.
I'm not so worried about changing up the application's data after I set it up. I've got PhoneLocator and SeekDroid for paid apps that can do the basic relocating of my phone in case it's lost. My plan would be to only use Phone Locator for this since it's an app that's not relying on a data connection to send out GPS coordinates and can be triggered by a silent SMS message. I would set it up initially, not touch it afterwards, and then basically use other apps that do similar functions if I needed it.
And I'm not really so worried about someone "discovering" this buried in some system folder on the root. I'm guessing 95% of the people that would "find" my phone would just try and use it as a fun 4 inch wifi device or MP3 player without a cellular connection. And I have faith that if some XDAer found it they would be one of the few people I'd expect to go out of their way to return it.
Some of the solutions seem a bit over my head at this point, is this something I could post in the Dev section to request someone to write the script for? I know people get pissed if things that aren't really dev requests get posted in there.
Or is there a security app that already does something like this?
Back when I was on WinMo 3 years ago using my Mogul there was an app called NueGPS that the developer allowed chefs to cook into their roms, so I'm surprised this hasn't been developed already. Seems the first thing a dishonest person would do that wasn't planning on finding the owner on a lost phone would be to wipe it so they could either sell it or be able to customize it to just use as a wifi device.
I would donate for an app/script like this
That's genius

I emailed the developer and he pretty much said this would work. I asked him the same question in the OP.
His reply:
Copy the com.rvo.plpro-1.apk from /data/app, to system/app with an app like Root Explorer. Uninstall the previous installation of ProLocator Pro. Restart your device. Done ! The user info will be stored in that file. Auto enable GPS is default, if it is off, it will be turned on, when a position is asked.

Had to "unlock" the app first from within its program to uninstall it from the /data/app directory, but it looks like it works. Before I flash another rom I'll try a standard wipe from the phone settings to see if it holds the settings I have the SMS GPS notifications go out to. He told me those scripts weren't really necessary and that all the user info gets stored in the .apk file. I'm wondering what all these other files do then. This is what came up under a search for plpro in Root Explorer.

I'm not in the habit of telling an android developer what his own app does or does not do, but I have developer a few android apps and am semi familar with how the android system works so I'll share my opinion. I'm in agreement more with you than whoever wrote the reply in the email you quoted.
I would be very surprised if his application was somehow internally storing settings inside of its own apk file ...
Those files you found and listed in your screenshot which ,are stored in the application's /data/data directory, are the standard preference type files which most (prob all) android applications use to store their settings. Google provides a very nice and convenient API for storing and managing settings in the app's respective /data/data directory.
It would be worth a try to test out. I would expect the following results from a test:
Move the apk file to /system/app. Wipe /data partition. Reboot and the application should have 100% stock/default settings.
On another approach, a thought just crossed my mind. It could be possible to have the application store your specific settings on a remote server and when the application opens or runs, it could pull down your specific settings from the server. This would of course require internet access (might not have if somebody stole and wiped, at least right away). But thats reverting back to our previous discussion.
Hope that helps as a second opinion from another application developer!

[Guide] Reodexing your SGS3

This guide is for reodexing your SGS3, such as UltimaROM, Omega, Foxhound, CodecROM, _null, Sotmax and others (I'm just listing off the top off my head).
It's not terribly tough and 100% of the credit belongs to rujelus22 for his amazing work on his AIO tool. This guide is just for deodexing/odexing, but you can use that tool for other things.
Firstly, why would you want to odex your ROM?
Well, this will help you understand more:
http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-tv-2/pro-tip-number-5-why-you-should-odex-and-deodex-xda-tv/
It's very useful and saves on battery life and makes the phone slightly more responsive.
Consider:
When you have downloaded and installed your chosen ROM you should odex it back up for the speed and agility odexing affords you. However you should ONLY do this after you are happy with your setup. I.E., install any mods you wanted and then Odex your phone.
If you want to add mods later, say, perhaps, your developer releases a new mod, or patch for your ROM you will NEED to Deodex the ROM before applying a patch or new mod. This is important. Please do not pester your dev about an error if you have not done this.
In my opinion, it can take maybe 30 minutes to Deodex, apply your mods/patch, and then Reodex using this tool, but the benefits are worth it.
You should also perform these actions AFTER a successful boot. You should flash the ROM. Boot. skip the setup pages and get to the homepage, then do this odexing.
How to do it:
Firstly, head off over to Rujelus22's AIO script thread and download it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955745
Don't forget to click "Thanks"
Make sure you also download these the Android-SDK and the Java Development kit. The SDK is necessary for the Deodexing, I believe, in case you want to do that later:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33268059&postcount=2
After that, extract the AIO script somewhere useful where you can find it again and run the "Start_AIO.bat" file. This will set up some folders in the directory you extracted to and then open the start page

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
After this make sure your phone is plugged into you computer and that USB Debugging mode is on in the Developers Options. ALSO, you must have an "Insecure Kernel" such as any custom kernel (Siyah, Perseus, Boeffla) or Wanam/zoot1's repacked stock kernel.
If you do not have an Insecure Kernel head off to Chainfire's adbd Insecure thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590
You might considering buying it on Google Play, if you like, but there is a free XDA version.
After you are plugged in, on USB debugging and have an Insecure Kernel, load the AIO script and choose option "22" which reads "Odex the ROM on your phone". You will be given the opportunity to take a nandroid backup at this point.
Sit back and let it do it's thing. It will take about 10 minutes, and it will seem to hang on the clean up bit. Fear not, because it IS doing something. Your phone will automatically reboot when it has finished.
You're done! Once you have done that little bit of setting up... in future it is as easy as opening the script, hitting 22 and sitting back.
Notes/FAQ:
Sometimes it can constantly loop around the first page as though it is doing a first run. To solve this, go into "AIO_FOLDER/tools/Settings/" and create a new .txt file called "firstrun". Make the contents of the file 1. Just "1" and nothing else.
Sometimes it can say that you don't have remount access and the Odex option will not show. Similar to the point above, go into "AIO_FOLDER/tools/Settings/" and make a .txt file called "remount" and place a single 1 in the folder.
Deodexing can take some time. Be patient.
Can any ROM be Odexed this way, such as CyanogenMod, for example?
I think so, yes. As long as the script can find the bootclasspath!

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I've always stuck with Odexed ROMs for all the reasons that Adam discussed in the video, so I'd be very pleased if I could Odex CM. Best of both worlds.

Woot woot!
Working like a charm now,thanks!
Maybe you should add this to the op?
I still can't select 99->4->2 but now odexing options are available!
Nice tut, I'm a big fan of reodexing since I first tried it,
I'm kind of new to this things and have to questions;
1.- First specifically to UltimaROM, does it have to be odex ?
2.- When it says I should do it after I have the Rom as I want it, it does not interfere with installing apps right?

You do not have to odex if you don't want to, but I personally recommend it.
And installing apps from the Play Store will be 100% fine on an odex'd ROM.
However, ANY mod that changes a system app is likely to interfer. In this case you can deodex, then flash the mod, then reodex (optional).
This is mainly for those that flash, then don't mod. However modding is not impossible and it's worth the extra 10 minutes to do this.
I have installed everything according to the tutorial. But in the cmd window..its written Your Kernel does not support this feature [adb remount]
I am using the perseus Kernel. I insecured the kernel using "adb insecure" from chainfire. I think it was not needed but i did it when nothing was working. It still does not work
any help?
P.S. debugging is enabled
EDIT : SOLVED -------> USING THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39378436&postcount=164
Dang it, I feel like an idiot. I cannot figure out how to setup the variable path from the instructions. Do I need to make a new one in both system and user, or do I edit one that is already there?
What do I name them?
I tried to reodex UltimaRom v11 and had to modify the script too (set remountavlible=yes) in order to see option 22 so you might want to write that in the OP Kryten, it could prevent the question from being asked over and over
Maybe it is specific to some roms ?
I do everything as I should, but after I press any button after it says "Press any key to continue" at the screen with the snake head (Or whatever that is),it will give me an empty command prompt. No menu,no nothing.Any ideas guys? It's really starting to get on my nerves...
How to know if my phone was odexed?
After running script it says:
The phone rebooted, but there is no *odex files in System/App. Strange..
Hey there! Just want to confirm something.. It is said in the OP that we have to "deodex" to flash a new mod or patch. Is a ROM upgrade considered a patch? Do I have to deodex first to flash a new ROM version? Or it is safe to just flash the new ROM version while I'm still odexed and just re-odex after upgrading the ROM?
Thanks!
I have an odex folder on my internal SD card. Folder size is almost 500mb. Can I delete this folder.

I can't seem to make it work.. It is always saying it can't find the Android SDK (look at the attached photo), but I've already installed everything. Java and Android SDK. What could be the problem? Both Java and SDK are installed in C:/

[Q] EFS Backup

I am trying (as recommended) to make an EFS backup of my phone.
I have tried EFS Backup Pro but the version of busybox I have (the one from Play Google: 1.21.0) seem to have an applet missing: readlink.
They ask to downgrade to version 1.20.2 but so far I could not find the APK to do that
How can I downgrade busybox ?
I have also tried the tuto for the GS3 i9305 using QPST but when I dial *#7284# I don't get the Menu "Phone util" so I assume this procedure doesn't work for the Galaxy mega ?
Has anybody managed to save the EFS on the mega ??? If yes how ??
Thanks in advance.

For this we must have root:
I have already a backup efs.img from i9205 made like this THREAD but changed the partition efs to 10 (see the screenshot). This command:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/storage/extSdCard/efs.img bs=4096
If I have some efs issue I will try the restore of it. (I'm not sure if this work. Take care, the responsibility is Your's)
PS: For i9200 You must see if the partition efs is the 10 also.
,
Ok, thanks for your fast answer.
My phone is also a I9205, so I'll try.Anyway there is no risk as long as we don't restore the backup.
Dont know if this will work but if you have root, install root explorer and just copy your efs folder to an ext SD card?
or am i thinking too simple about this?

Yes, I confirm this work. I restored the efs twice whit Root Explorer on Galaxy Tab 7" P1000 and one on Note 10.1 N8000.
But we must verify the permissions, I compared whit another device. Can be some issues whit.
I had a look with root explorer and there is nothing after the permissions (rwxrwx) , no -> and no file name.
This is valid for all the directories in the root directories.
By the way the name I don't have the same directories as you ??
How did you get that ? Which file explorer ??
Root Explorer, now 2.21.1 version from Speed Software. On top we must put on R/W to see or change permissions.
For exemple: long touch on efs folder, on next window we have permissions. Touch on permissions, we see it on a new little window.
We can verify, change... or ok/cancel.
I am using Root explorer 3.and this is what I can see:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

Good, is the new version 3 and You are already on r/w. Now make this:
Long touch on efs folder until you have a new window whit many options (attach1), also permissions (Permissões in Portuguese).
Touch on permissions, we see it on a new little window (attach2). This mean rwxrwx--x = 7,7,1 (my case).
Your is rwxrwxrwx = 7,7,7
(r=Leitura, w=Gravação, x=Executar)
We can verify, change... or ok/cancel.
See attachs:
PS: On version 3 You can mark efs at right and touch on menu. Is same.
Valente
Yes, I have done that already and changed the last part of the permission to rwx (was--x) as you can see in may capture.
But still no indication like yours: -> mmcblk0p10 !!
And as you can see also my root directory is different from yours????

Because I prefer the Root Explorer old version 2.21.1 and invalidate the update of it on Play Store.
Updated now to vers 3 to test to You but I returned to old version. I like it more.
Ok, I'll try with the same version as yours and see what I get.
But my concern was that the name of the directories in my capture and yours are quite different and I don't think that the other version of Root explorer wil change anything.
I have installed version 2.21.1 and I get the same thing !
But I think I have finally understood what's going on: your first capture is not the capture of the Root directory as what we see are not sub-directories but files !!
Can you tell me the path to get that ??

I must be stupid but I can' get what I want which is show in the attachment below.
I have all the steps: mount R/W, long touch on EFS, then I get the options menu and if I go in permissions I can change them but when I say OK I return to the contents of the root directory.
I have tried to change the permissions but no way. I really don't see what more can be done to get this information.
I think I'll give up and will no longer bother you.
Any way thank you very much for your help and having be so patient.

Take care, is not there, this is not the root directory. Is on Your screen post 8 on root you see efs folder. Is here You must try long touch... etc, my screens post 9.
This screen in this Your post is from /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/partitions, is not the root directory, the efs here is not a folder is a partition.
PS: Attach root directory whit efs folder, not file.

Good lookin out bro!
wish it had a sound too like the default droid dna boot animation
I have tried and tried and tried over and over again with installing this animation as well as others and I haven't had a single bit of luck. I am rooted and using Nos m7 ROM with Sense 5.0. I tried an easier way of doing it with an app on the market and was able to get a couple animations to work that way BUT they were to small and I deleted them and got rid of the app. I even went in with es file explorer and removed them. I have read and watched everything I can on how to do this and when I put the file where I'm suppose to and reboot I don't get the animation that I should. Some of the animations I flash fail and won't work at all. I can give anyone who helps me out a step by step account of exactly what I have done and do in order to get a new boot animation. I'm just at a loss because this should have worked by now.
Work Great on the Nos Rom 3.0.7 GSM
Thanks you
How did you get it to work? That's the Rom I'm running!

It must be the file name because you are on gsm...try renaming it to bootanimation.zip and put in system/customize/resource

I renamed it that already. I just can't put it in that directory. I don't know why but I can't get it in that directory. I've put it everywhere else that should have worked and I got nothing. Oh just remembered something. I get permission denied. Unless I need to rename it and then place it in that spot. I'll try that and go from there.

that's because system isn't mounted as RW. Are you using ES file explorer?
- click on top left button (looks like a globe with a phone in front of it)
-scroll down to where it says Root Explorer. Make sure that is on.
- click on Root Explorer (not the toggle on the right, click to the left of it, on the word "Root".
- go to Mount RW
- make sure "/system" is checked as RW

OOOOO pretty, thanks bro.
I have done everything exactly as instructed and have read everything on the subject that I can find. I still can't get it work unless I use this app I found called boot animations. I have renamed the file I want to use and I have gone in and changed the directory to being RW. Nothing works. It keeps going back to either the stock one with the ROM I'm using, or one of the ones I had downloaded but deleted(I'm guessing I didn't find all of it so that's why it keeps going back to it). I'm stumped and frustrated at this point. I'm currently using the CM10 animation because I found that one on the app and it works full screen like it should. For now I'm throwing in the towel.

That was the very last thing I did before trying it again. I still can't get it work. Like I said...the towel has been thrown in.
Wait...I just restarted my phone and....for no real reason at all other than I got rid of some extra boot animations and then moved the ones I need into a file that was already named by the system as boot animations. It suddenly worked when my phone rebooted. I'm in total surprise and shock right now. Perhaps it was defaulting to the one I had downloaded because I had to many named bootanimation.zip and as it searched the system it just picked the first one it came to? My thing is why wouldn't it do that in the first place when I got rid of everything but the stock one that came with the ROM I'm running? Oh well....I must say the boot animation is pretty cool in motion right in front of me. Now I'm thinking I'll run that one for a bit and then see what else I can find.
