[Q] Emulated storage - HTC Droid DNA

At some point my phone emulated the storage on the device. Now that this has happened I can't get back to the "real root" of my storage on the phone. It is here that there are old ROM's and old backups that are taking up a lot of space(over 5GB's). I've tried different file managers but can't get to it. When I go to flash new ROM's TWRP sees the old "root" of my storage, but I can't delete anything .
How do I get back to the old file structure?? Help!!

At some point you updated to a newer version of Android. What you see is what you get. Go under storage, in that folder :emulated, sdcard0 and usb.
Under root, in that folder : sdcard.
I use root explorer

[Q] AOKP/CM9 doesn't "see" files in file manager.

I haven't taken notice to any others having this problem, but I may have simply missed it. When I use AOKP or CM9, I can't find certain files on either the built-in storage or in the sd card that I put in it today (I don't know if I have to do anything special to it or not -- do I have to format it?). I have some backups of apps and a few other things, but I can't browse the folders on my sd card because, for some reason, they're simply not listed. Regardless of file browser, I can't see certain files and folders.
Has anyone else had this problem and/or does anyone know what might be causing it? The files aren't hidden and I can see them just fine when I restore my rooted/stock 2.3.4 backup.
There are a couple possibilities why you can't see things. One is that your ext SD card may be now called EMMC. Two, and most likely, you have to give FE root priviledges in preferences.
Remember that any folder with a . (Period) in front of the folder name will be considered hidden. Some apps hide the folders they create automatically and as previously stated above if the file explorer yer using doesn't have root it may not be able to see them.

So how to show the hidden folders that have a period in front of them ? remove the period and the app will show itself ?
Am new to all this so please bare with me.
am trying to gain access to my phones root folders,Apps,Apks....and to make my phone read my external SD card.
my previous ROM was ICS 4.0.2. then i Rooted it..i used Method 2 + Method 2 Advanced---thanks to Jiangyi
Reference : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1679778
Then i flashed aokp_i9100g_jb_milestone-1 and then gapps-jb-20121011-signed for jellybean 4.1.x
The AOKP_Milestone works fine but my problem is that am not able to see my file manager on my device.i can see them on the computer only when i hook the device (i9100G) to the Computer and some of the folders do have periods in front of them,i did fix permissions from CWM recovery, but still nothing.
before flashing the Custom ROM i did not do any backup or restore, i had some applications on the device and some on the External SD card.
am aware of my mistake which probably was the sol issue of problem
when i try to go to Google play through the device it simply does not connect to it,"thats a problem that i had even on ICS"i was able to go to Google play from my computer and install an application from there ,but now when i try to install an app like the AppBack or any app for example
it says that the app has installed into my device but am not able to find it anywhere neither in the device or the root folders of the device through my (computer) only. because am not able to see any of my files through the device.
the Google_Library,music,files,diary,videos apps just doesn't exist. i see them all piled up in one widget in a faded color but they are simply not accessible.
and my mini external sd card can be seen by the device from the storage section in settings only but it says "Mount SD card
Insert an SD card for mounting"
when i click on it nothing happens.
i have not formatted my external SD card after flashing aokp rom. am not able to from the phone nor from the computer and i dont know what to press in CWM recovery in Advanced section so many options there don't know which one to do and which one to leave alone.
so what is my problem, what is the solution for this?
thank you

This forum is for the i777. You don't have this phone model. Please ask in your own forum. All u need to gain access to system files is a file manager that allows root access. For hidden files, I just use a file manager that has an option to show them.

[Q] Phone doesn't recognise internal memory ?

I tried to install revolt jb rom , did the wipes but it didn't install properly
The screen buttons wouldn't work, so I went into recovery and totried install my back up off my internal memory but it wouldn't find it ? Lucky I had wanam rom on the Sd card I istalled that.,
when I've checked it looks like all my files are there on the internal memory but it won't recognize then, this is the same in recovery. Any ideas how to access my internal memory again?
I've tried searching but am away from my computer so it's not easy.
Very difficult to understand your post .
kemeys ???
You say
Off my internal memory but it wouldn't find it ?>>>>
You say
did the wipes
Logic says you wiped the backup or part of it .
Root with the exact same recovery you used .
jje
All the file are still on my phone , it just won't find them, I managed to locate then with root browser lite , but recovery can't find them.
Typing this on my phone, so you'll have to excuse the typos.

update
I've just plugged my phone into the computer, it looks like all my files are still on the internal memory card, but they've been put into a folder lablled 0, just got to figure out how to access that folder on the phone or better still on the recovery. No problem find it on the phone now, just can't access it from recovery.
If i can get into the folder in recovery I should be able to restore my back up, I tried to copy and paste the back up into the clockworkmod backup folder, it copied, but failed the MD5 test when trying to restore.
Update: copied the cwm back up to the external sd card and it worked, so I'm back where I started from, just got to sort out my files and delete any duplicates.

[Q] Hidden Partition?

Code:
I have an issue with stuff on the "internal storage" portion, usually simlinked to "/sdcard/" or something like this, disappearing when in a new OS I recently flashed.
I was on ViperDNA rom and had lot's of stuff on the internal storage. I switched to the new CM10.2 stable (ok, maybe not new, but new to me), and now the "internal storage" is completely different. None of the stuff I had there previously is there anymore. I know I didn't tell CWM (touch version 6.0.4.6) to format internal storage or any sort of format that would delete the internet storage, and when "searching the SD card" for a rom to flash, it still let's me browse my old "sdcard" that has all the previous files that I had access to, but now, in two different roms, a stock one and the CM10.2 stable, It only shows the "new" sd card contents. I've tried several different file browsers, root browsers, searching for any trace of the old SD Card contents, which I know are still present due to the fact that I can still see them in Recovery, but I just can't find it.
I really need to get several of the files out of there. Any ideas?
Sorry if I haven't given enough/the right info. Let me know if more info is needed.
Ended up using ADB Pull /sdcard/ to get it all. Thanks though!
It's still there, so no worries. I'm not on kitkat but your old stuff is under mnt/sdcard/emulated..or something like that. Your new folder is 0

I'm only on jelly bean 4.3. That's what 10.2 is. Or, even the latest OTA from verizon, no matter what, my data isn't accessible from a computer or from within the android OS.
Only time I even see that the files still exist is in the recovery, and Idk how to get them from there :/

[Q] Problems viewing CWM Backups on my PC and phone

Hey guys, I realise that I may not be on the correct forum for this and for that i apologise, however I am quite new to this website and don't know my way around.
Anyway, I have recently backed up my whole phone storage to SD card using CWM recovery as there was no option to backup to an internal device. I wanted to take the backup and move it to my computer but I have a HTC One m7 which has no SD card. This isn't normally a problem for me because all the files seem to show up on the internal storage when i look on my computer anyway however despite searching through all of the folders, I simply cant find. The backup is 5gb in total and I know that it has been made sucessfully because my available storage has decreased by 5GB but it simply can't be found. Even when i look at the file manager on my phone I can't see it. Even if I can't move it to my PC I atleast want to be able to delete it, will factory resetting the device remove root access aswell as everything else and will I have to start all over again to delete this hefty 5GB backup?

TWRP Backups with extended storage?

I've just tried to do a backup on my NT running AOSP 7.0. I have TWRP 3.0.2-0 in emmc.
The first attempt I tried to go to the "external SD" card since there is lots of room there. Everything seemed to go just fine although I thought the backup size was a bit small, just over 2 gb. On reboot I could not find the backup anywhere. I tried ES File Explorer and the native File Explorer. No sign of anything like "/external_sd/TWRP/Backups/" etc., and no sign in ES File Explorer that another 2 gb chunk was occupied by something.
So I went back into TWRP and looked at the File Manager there. Not only could I not find evidence of the backup but every folder listed showed as empty! Well, I think TWRP is often very squirrely, so I was not too worried about that. I went to try another backup and saw that by the mysterious accounting of TWRP, I had about 2 gb less storage space on the "micro SD card" than before I tried the first backup. Hmm..... When I tried a second backup, it failed, stating there was no space (despite there being over 13 gb). Finally, I decided to try a backup to internal. This went just fine, but the folder for storage of the backup was supposed to be something like "/emmc_unused/TWRP/Backup/" etc., and--you guessed it, was not visible in any file manager of any sort.
After a reboot I went back into TWRP and to my horror now the internal storage shows about 2 gb less!!!!!! ARGH! Where are these files that are taking up space but nowhere to be found?!
Edit: AHA! Is there a manual somewhere for TWRP? This time I tried "Mount" for internal. Very strange. There is a screen to select what to "mount", but not a button or something to say "now do it!". Anyway, once I did that, I was able to see both of the mysterious locations mentioned above and delete both backups, freeing up the 2 gb in each "location". But I still have no idea how to make a backup and put it somewhere I can actually get at it. I generally off-load backups and store them on my PC.

Have you tried using a PC sdcard reader to read the sdcard?
I have had problems finding/accessing from my PC some of the files on my HD+ that I had created while I was using terminal emulator (which I suspect having to do with file ownership and access permission setting but which I have not found a solution for), but I have always been able to read and copy CWM/TWRP backup files on sdcard by using a card reader.

The OS warns that the SD card will become encrypted and unreadable by external means if you choose to extend the memory rather than using the card in the traditional format. So, no, you can't just pop it out and read it on a PC.
The really confounding part is that even a backup saved to internal cannot be copied off. The directory seems to be invisible to everything but TWRP.
Really feeling buyers remorse on that decision but I'm afraid of the damage if I revert the card. I can backup content I've stored there but there's no way to know how much the OS has placed there. All that would be lost and some apps might be messed up. Ugh.
