Modems/Radios for this phone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi, I'm a bit confused when it comes to modems/radios. I currently am on i717UCMD3, and it runs pretty great on T-Mobile. But I want to find another modem to see if it's any better when it comes to reception. However, I can't find any other modems that are for jellybean. I was wondering if anyone had links or anything to other modems?
Thanks!

As long as its a modem for this device, you can flash away. Take em all for a test drive. Just flash modems, no need to reflash rom with them.

I am on At&T and have never had an issue with whatever modem comes with the rom. Then again, I treat the modem like I do the kernal. It should work with whatever comes with the rom. If it doesnt, for the most part, I wont run it. Right now I am running Hellybean. I was one of the first to try for our device. Lots of options and doesnt suck battery like the KK's.

[Q] Does flashing back to stock affect T-mobile modem?

I've flashed a T-mobile modem and using with the HSPA+ for awhile, however the Saurom ROM I'm using has some bugs like I can't reboot my phone properly and I sometimes lost signals, so my question is: if I want to flash my Note back to stock android, am I gonna lose the capability of using the HSPA+ which I'm using right now? Is there any ROM you would recommend that would be stable for the Note and still have the T-mobile modem enabled? Please give me an answer because I've been confused with this for awhile. God bless you all...
Question
Anybody? Please?
I'm using Saurom 7.1 and ICS theme on,Blaze modem and its been running great. It isn't as fast speedwise compared to my Amaze 4g but stable and fast.

You will probably have to reflash the tmo modem. But it might still be there as others have had non-stock modems that were still there even after flashing a stock tar file.

Best way to be sure would be to flash the stock radio. Though, it would be nice to know if using Odin will put EVERYTHING back to stock.
I'll bet the answer exists on the forum already but it's a good question, regardless.

Oops. Read the question wrong. So far as i know, once you flash a radio, it's there forever. Unless you flash a new one. Depending on how someone makes their ROM, this could change, but I'm betting that most of the devs aren't worried about forcibly making the people flashing their **** switch modems.

Yes you will. I noticed that when i installed the at&t stock Rom

thanks for sharing. I've heard some infos about flashing back to stock could affect the radio, but I feel relieved when I saw this.
Dont worry about the modem in GB just flash it and it'll work
all ive heard is that the "ICS leak" doesnt play well with TMO modem
but idk to be honest

Modems

I don't know much about modems but I'm on cm10 right now and wondering if I need to change my modem at all. When I look at my phone it says baseband version I717UCLE2 is this the correct modem and if not how and where do I flash the correct one for my rom? I have searched but don't really know what I'm searching for, wasn't sure if the Tom included the correct modems, thx guys

Are you getting lots of dropped calls? If you already get good service there isn't much reason to switch.
If you want to do it it's pretty easy.
You use CWM or TWRP recovery or Odin3 on a pc.
Then you simply flash the modem zip and reboot.
Nope no dropped calls is that all a modem is for? I get good signal and all that as well. I don't want to fix something that's not broken. Thx for ur help

I would stay on that modem. Yes, the modem handles calls, sms, mms, data. If you are good with these services, stay with your modem.
Deleted since I gave bad advice.
False: Nandroids do not contain the modem.
To test one out you would need a zip of your original modern to flash back to, a nandroid will not restore it.
VoluntaryMan said:
If you're just curious you wouldn't hurt anything by doing a nandroid backup and trying the UCLF6 modem. If you get worse signal or anything you can always revert to the backup. I personally like being on the newest version of everything.

There are many posts from users who borked their IMEI by flashing a modem. That number identifies each phone on the network.

Help Not Sure What I Did

I have an Note i717M from Bell Canada that I have unlocked and using t-mobile radios to work with Wind.
For the last two weeks I had nothing but great reception and no black outs. I recently installed Black Star since I tried that ROM I have had almost no connection. I re-flashed ICS Blaze radio which I was using on Stock and CM10 with no issues.
Now no matter what ROM I flash I can't get connected for more then two minutes.
Not sure if anyone can think of anything that might cause this.
I am convinced it's not the radio because it works with my rogers account just fine when I flash the stock radio back to the phone.
Also I can connect to Wind Away on the stock radio no problem and stay connected with full bars.
Could it be the kernel?
Got it working I had to do the full flash in odin each of the partitions. Something must have been corrupted pretty bad. As soon as i flashed all the stock partitions and booted up and got the ics ota. Flashed icsblaze and back to full connectivity.

It sounds like you just needed to add the right APN settings to the rom for it to work. If you decide to try blackstar again makesure to copy down your APN settings you are currently using.

I guess he used this rom to back to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657279
By the way, It's 2.3 stock.. not ICS.
Yeah I went back to bone stock.
Here is the funny thing I have 2 notes, 1 rogers, 1 bell. When I use the rogers phone on darkstar absolutely no issues.
The bell version, it completely knocks out the AWS radio that I use and I am not able to restore it for some reason.
I had to reflash all the partitions to restore it. Tried 3 times same result on the bell version.
Wonder what's different in the i717M vs the i717R

Unless you have a keen understanding of how to partition a device, dont try.
Rather, use Odin or kies to push the factory image to the device, and let it run the partition mapping for you. Otherwise, you can damage the device and brick yourself.
Read up on all things note, in the general section at the top. Use the "super thread" and find the issue you are looking for.
Also, you can general search for the answers, as they are covered in many threads in this section.....g

Custom modems

Hey guys I'm pretty new and I'm sorry if this question is super noobish but I've just starting reading threads about custom modems and I was wondering what would be the benefit of a modem change?

Possibly better signal and battery life, but it could also make it worst. Best bet is to try the new one and see if it helps if not just go back to the old one. Or if you're signal is great then just stay where you are at.

I would have to agree with kintwofan, I have seen more bad than good come from swapping the modem. A friend of mine thought it might be a good idea to swap the modem on the phone and to say the least he spent the better part of an hour restoring and re-rooting his phone. As the person above had mentioned I would just stick with what you’re working with assuming its not causing you any issues. Take some time to familiarize yourself with everything before you just try to jump in and customize everything on your phone. You will save yourself a lot of heartache.

Why would he reroot after changing a modem? All you have to do is flash the old modern. It's very easy to swap between the two

He tried to flash the old modem and still was having issues getting any service/radio, so he revert back to the stock rom and re rooted the phone had no issues.
I don't know about the note II but with the galaxy s2 different modems worked better in certain areas of the US. You had to flash several modems and test to see which one gave you the best data speeds.

Gotcha, kind of strange usually you can just flash back to your old modem, but that's the risk of this game we play

We have 2 modems, and from everything I've read, no one has seen any real difference between the two. Given the patch size, I can't imagine it was more than just a little fine tuning and a version change.
Thanks guys. Good to know.

The modems can be flashed separately without changing your base firmware. Go to the modems thread in development and try some of the more recent ones. In the about phone screen, your baseband will be the modem.
Different folks get differing results in different geographical areas.

Yep. That's it. Try several of them, or all of them. It's relatively painless. I actually have all of the zip files on my sd card.
