[Q] performance ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello comunity,
A have a Q for you.
Our beloved phone began (a long time ago) to show his age. After a lot of ROM swiches, based on the stable base, for stability or the newest versions of CM/AKOP/ASOP etc. I reached a point where I'm tired to try every week something new, and I search for a stable, slim ROM, with performance tweaks (to make this old phone to be somewhat responsive) and wait with him for my GS2 to have his last breaths, before I put him in a museum .
Any sugestions?
THX.

Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread. OP what works best for one user may not work best for you due to differences in how you use the device. My advice would be to try them out and see which one is best for you.

[Q] New to SGS2 Section :)

Good day friends, first of all I wanted to say thanks to all the devs working hard to bring us all the good stuff for our mobile devices, also hoping for Samsung to bring us the latest ICS build as soon as possible.
I have moved from my old HTC Sensation mobile, and after reading lots and lots of Threads here and searching i concluded I got lost lool...
I need few tips for the following:
1- please refer me to a good GB stable/fast rom I can use as a daily driver.
2-Which ICS rom at the moment I can use as a daily driver??? with less bugs as possible? I hear XXLPH is nice, but everytime i read a thread i find critical bugs. so im lost on which i should flash, thx
1) Go over to the dev sections. Read the first 10 pages/last 10 pages of the thread devoted to a rom you want to try. Try the rom out. Repeat until you've found one that works well for you.
There is no such thing as the "best custom rom for daily usage". You have your phone setup differently to everyone else, you use your phone differently to everyone else and your phone came out of the factory slightly differently to everyone else's.
A rom that runs well for me might not run well for you.
2) Similar to 1. All ICS builds are alphas at the moment due to no sources being available at this time. You will more than likely have problems of one kind or another if you use one of these as a daily. Again, read the thread relating to the ICS build you want to try in order to get a gauge of these.
Welcome to the jungle

1- For a start,I would really recommend CheckROM RevoHD™ V6 ROM from here with SpeedMod K2-21 from here for good performance and good battery life, but still, do take sometime to read around in the forums for more info

[Q] I just want a fairly fast but stable ROM with good battery life??

Hey there you awesome developers.
I am just after a new rom which is stable and fairly fast but with good battery life.
I am currently on the official Three UK 4.03 rom and frankly.. it sux the big one.
The battery life is just absolutely terrible and it is also starting to become a little buggy in the last few days.
I have also had bluetooth connection problems to my work car since upgrading to ICS.
Any ideas or good suggestions for a rom that you can recommend??
Cheers people and major props for an awesome forum, just awesome.

A rom that runs well for me might not run well for you.
I suggest you go the development sections of the forum & read the first few pages and the the last 10-20 pages of the particular threads devoted to different roms. That way you will get an idea of the features/pluses/minuses of each rom, and also see other users' experiences with that rom.
Given how quick/simple it is to flash roms & backup/restore in CWM there is no excuse for you not trying out a bunch of roms for yourself. Tipping this thread is closed within an hour.

Need help with choosing ROM for Galaxy S2

Hello,
I was really into XDA forum few years ago but some things got into my life so I backed off a bit. I still got my SGS II tho and there is Siyah Kernel 3.0.33 - 3.3.1+ version installed on top of Ressurection Remix ICS 2.0 by westcrip 4.0.4.
As I'm not into the flow anymore and I need advice fast as possible because I'm reformating my SGS II soon - I need recommendation. I need a ROM who currently gives me the most bugfixes and most stability and speed. That's all I'm about, I like speed, good functions and a lot of bugfix/speed scripts automatically installed but still - ROM that flows with newest Android versions.
Can I get recommendation for ROM and Kernel?
Thanks.
No, you can't. Rom/kernel recommendations are forbidden here. For a simple reason - you will not have the same experience of a given rom or kernel as someone else due to phone setup & usage. There are too many variables involved.
Make a nandroid, go over to the two development sections, read some thread, try out some roms/kernels.
Mods will be closing this thread shortly.
I would rather spent my time testing someones recommendation then trying so many ROM's by my own hand, this way I can set the percentage of **** ROM's down to less percent and good stuff higher ... but yeah, thanks, you were very, very helpful.
Not interested. Rules are you try these things yourself. Stop being lazy.
More like an order, I'm not lazy, I'm just trying to spare time, and I guess everyone does that, maybe not if you don't have anything important to do. I'm not saying this to interest you ...

[Q] Suggested ROM --> stability is paramount

Hi there,
I have a i717. For the past several months, I had been running CM 10 stable build (10.1.3 I believe), but found it to be anything but stable...Lots of random reboots, screen no always very responsive on attempted wake...It got bad enough that I went back to my previous ROM, waaay back to FlapJaxx's Build 12. FJ's ROM is incredibly stable, always has been and I'm very tempted to just roll with this until my contract is up...but at the same time, this is Android version 4.0.4 so it makes me feel a bit old fashioned.
It seems much of the community here has moved onto other phones, so my options may be limited...but anyone got a shout out for a good STABLE ROM?
Besides the rock solid stability of FlapJaxx, I am also generally impressed with the battery life (on CM 10 it was pretty awful), and IMHO BLN is superior to Dynamic Notifications...
Now I am pretty sure that my reliance on BLN will limit my options, but I'm just curious what other options folks here might recommend.
Thanks in Advance.
If you want stable, stick with the stock 4.1.2 version. Or any stock version for that matter.
No one will be able to tell you what custom rom is stable but you. Not all devices will perform the same for 2 different people. What suits one person might not perform the same for another. Xda recommends you try all the custom roms and see what works best for you.
Thanks, clearly I've been out of the loop didn't even realize there was a stock JB update on the phone...I'll blame my kids
As near I can tell, if I want a rooted/de-bloated stock MD3 experience I'm looking at Padawan or Blackstar?
Since these use stock kernel, will BLN work or if I absolutely must have BLN working am I stuck with a 4.0.4 kernel?
Thanks again...

XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

Clean, Resource friendly and stable ROM to give phone new life?

Hello,
I am a little bit out of dated with recent android development so excuse the nooby question.
My friend owns a S3 but constantly complains about speed and performance. And he is right - just opening a simple app could already take 10-20 seconds. Right now he even has to turn on Airplane mode constantly, otherwise the phone would suck through the battery in no time.
This was so painful to watch that I just had to step in.
I am looking for a ROM that is close to stock and very resource friendly. Away with all of the Samsung firmware and Touchwiz and focus on making the telephone as performant as possible.
Last time I was on Android, CyanogenMOD was still the go-to ROM for most use cases but that seems to have gone away. I checked AOKP and LineageOS but that's as far as my current knowledge reaches.
LineageOS seems very promising but I am not sure how unstable the nightlies for S3 currently are. I want to avoid installing something crashy since he's not very tech-affine.
Any recommendations?
Read the forum rules. No "best rom" threads allowed. Stock roms are the best roms.
Beamed in by telepathy.
Currently I am on Hyper v10 NougatUX 4.4.4 its a great Rom with many features .
