Hi guys, I'm having this bizarre problem that I hope you could help me with.
I currently have an iPhone 5S, SGS4 and HTC One and share a single sim card between all three phones.
In my home country my SIM card is able to access data on all 3 phones with no problem.
However, when I go abroad and use data roaming, only the iPhone is able connect, both android phones are unable to connect at all.
I checked the APN settings and all seem to be correct.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Have you enabled data roaming in settings..!??
If you are using a custom rom you can find it in settings - - > more - - >mobile networks... Tick the data roaming option... I've never tried data roaming as I don't travel much... But that might help you..! [emoji106]

Yup it's ticked for sure. On the HTC it says that APN settings are incorrect, on the Samsung the phone just refuses to connect. If I move the SIM to the iPhone, data roaming works flawlessly!
When I'm back home, I have zero problems with either phone, which leads me think this is either an Android problem, or a SIM card problem.

Then I guess it has something to do with APN's... Maybe it requires different APN's for roaming... And somehow iPhone has them by default and android doesn't.... Contact your service provider and get the apns..!! That's my best bet.... Good luck

Can you try to use the search now option? I just tried it on my phone and it works fine. Also, check to make sure Network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA (AUTO MODE)
Additionally, go to settings manage applications. select menu button >> Filter >> Show all >> Call settings and select clear data.

Do you have access to a tmobile post paid sim, if so give it a try. I am not sure why it will not let u connect to the network, unless tmobile had you blocked somehow.

Had the same problem and this worked for me. Well, not exactly. Did the Setteings>Wireless and Network>Mobile Networks> Network Operators and pushed the "Select automatically" option instead. Post put me on the right track though. Thanks

I had this same issue. It was finally fixed with a new sim card. TMobile stated that there is a new sim card that fixes issues due to their new 3g+(4g) network. The sim would work fine on my older BB but wouldnt work on my Vibrant. They replaced the sim for free at the T-Mobile store and I have been fine since. I hope thats your same issue.
Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post. I recently unlocked my Atrix and am now using it in Thailand with True Move (850mhz). The phone works fine for calls but I can't connect to the 3g or Edge/GPRS. The H+ in the top right of the screen is visible. Are there any settings I need to adjust? I plugged in a friends iphone 3gs sim card which was working fine with 3g and Edge/GPRS (on the iphone) but still no luck. Any ideas? I hope I'm missing something obvious here...
did you turn on the data roaming?
Under settings -> data manager -> data delivery I have backround data, data roaming, and data enabled all checked. Is there somewhere else I need to enable data? Its my first Android phone so sorry if the question seems obvious.
FWIW the 3g/4g worked on my AT&T sim card in the US.

Just did this. Thanks a lot. I've been going crazy trying to figure out whats wrong with this!
hi there
my gf bought a htc legend when we were living in australia on vodafone network and all worked fine.we have just come back to the uk and have put a new sim in on 3 network.it will make calls text and conect to wifi but will not allow data traffic it just says connecting on the mobile data tab but never does.the sim card allows data has i have tried it in my phone.
any ideas of what i need to do,is it because its from australia, will it work over in the uk,should it,or do i need to do something to the phone to allow data,
any help would be good.
thanks
is the phone unlocked? can it run another sim other then the vodafone one?
or in youre new location youre still on vodafone network?
most likely the phone doesn`t know how to configure the apn for the data
google your network`s android apn and go to settings wireless networks mobice connection set apn create a new one or change the existing one while the phones mobile connection is turned on
Yep, I can confirm this problem may be fixed by identifying and filling in your APN for your network.
I had the same problem, as well, this fixed it.
Thanks allot for the help guys, done it and it works fine now.

I have an unlocked ATT One X+, it's stock rooted. I'm traveling in China right now and trying to get a SIM card to work... calls work fine, but data does not.
Mobile Data is ON
I've tried turning Data Roaming both On and OFF
Tried rebooting phone of course
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks!

Ended up figuring this one out. If I try a new SIM card long enough, eventually the network provider texts a message to the phone with information about setting up the APN (Access Point Name) for the mobile data connection. I've never had to deal with that before, so it was new to me.
All I had to do to go to the Access Point Name ('APN') settings and change the Authentication Type from its default 'Not Set' to 'None'. After that, my internet is working fine.
It would appear this may be an issue common to a number of Chinese phones, so hopefully this will be of use to other people in the same situation.
My venerable Samsung Galaxy S i9000 (rooted, Android 4.2.2 using CyanogenMod 10.1.2 ROM, on Virgin UK) has always served me very well when roaming abroad, and up to last year I had no problems with data connections. I'm just back from France, and could not get any data connection for the entire 2 weeks I was away (I bought a travel pass of course, and got confirmation of validity). This is totally unprecedented. I spent hours on the phone (calls and texts were OK) to Virgin, who variously said they needed to refresh my account settings at their end, then that there were known European network issues, and then that the problem was with the phone. I was told to turn on international roaming, but I don't have that option. The options at Settings>networks>mobile networks are:
Data enabled - ticked
Data roaming - ticked
National data roaming - ticked
Access point names
Use only 2G networks - unticked
Network operators
I don't have anything called international data roaming, and indeed have never seen this on any Android version I have ever had. I have seen images of other phones where `data roaming' is replaced by `international data roaming', and I'm sure there is no technical difference. Roaming is roaming surely?
I am very suspicious that there is actually nothing wrong with my phone, and that something odd is going on with Virgin. The reason is that last year I was running Android ICS using a different ROM, and mobile data kept turning off. This went on for over a week until Virgin found it was their fault and fixed it. At that time they never mentioned international roaming. I've done the usual searches and not turned up anything useful. There can't be anything wrong with the handset because data access turned straight back on when I got back to the UK. Can anyone shed any light?
Hmm. Calls and texts were working though, just not data? And it wasn't an APN setting? I'm assuming they had you check those. Did it show you were connected to data but there was no data transfer? In Settings > About Phone > Status - what would it say? Disconnected? You've used the phone on that other network before? It's possible that the other carrier's data frequencies aren't supported by the phone.

Yes they got me to check all settings and all were OK, except that according to Virgin there should be this `international data roaming' option which I don't have. The signal strength icon on the home screen showed a little R not a little H as normal. So I don't think there was any data connection. My key question though is whether there is any evidence at all that rooting affects roaming. I've been searching the web for over a week and found nothing about that. Frankly I don't believe it.
