First Impression KitKat ZVC OTA [LS980] - G2 General

OK battery life is supposed to be better... I don't think so. When i was on JellyBean (ZVA) i could fully charge my phone at night and go to sleep and in the mornin i would still be at 100% now i am losing like 10 - 15% over night.
Google play services is always running and it shows 12% battery usage. WHYS IS GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES ALWAYS RUNNING???
i am very upset that i went back to stock to update to kit-kat after spending countless hours modding my phone the way i like it.
I might just downgrade back to ZVA (JB)
Knock-On feature works less than before now. I don't know why... it is VERY inconsistent.
I DO like the way they re-arranged the notification panel, if you just touch the top it will bring down just the time and date. i love that. Exactly what Samsung's "TOUCH WHIZ" had three years ago.
They fixed the weather animation for the lock screen where it appears every time you wake your phone. The reason i do not use it is because it shows sunshine at night time. Very annoying
Honestly i don't know what else was upgraded in this update...
Things i would have loved to see.
Camera rec. 120fps and slow motion feature added. 4K
Knock on/off feature fixed.
Tap to unlock feature
Tap to pay google wallet
----------------------------------------------
Over all i don't think it was worth losing all the mods i had placed on my phone. (Native Hotspot Mod, Xposed Mods, split view, custom recovery, camera mods, extended power menu, Root and many more)

[Q] What should be in Screebl 3.0?

I want to get back to Screebl this fall and roll version 3.0. I'm going to focus on updating it to make it more 2.3/3.0+ friendly, and try to spend some time on dealing with the variety of issues that come in the form of "I've installed my own custom ROM on my toaster and Screebl doesn't work", which may mean simplifying things a bit. But I digress.
You guys at xda are the most demanding, critical, unrelenting, inflexible, opinionated crowd that I know of. You're also pretty smart. I'm curious to hear what those of you that use the app want to see in a 3.0 release.
dk
Surprised no one has chimed in here yet. First off I would like to say that Screebl is easily my favourite app, even though I mostly forget it is there. Whenever anyone new to Android asks what apps to install, Screebl is at the top of my list. OK, now that the brown nosing is out of the way...
Note: I have a Samsung Epic, currently running the latest leaked build of GB (EH06 as of writing this).
I would like some clarity on the interaction of Screebl and docks. For some reason I can't seem to figure out if it is ever enabled/disabled correctly while docked.
Ever since I started running GB leaks, Screebl has shot to the top of the battery consumption list. This may not be a Screebl issue, but instead something to do with how GB measures battery performance?
I would be nice to include the option to control time between screen off and screen locking.
A slider for choosing the maintained screen brightness, and/or the option to set it to the phone's default.
The option of a 'night mode', with different settings for maintained screen brightness and screen timeout.
Different settings for timeout while on the lock screen vs homescreen vs apps.
Glad to hear you'll get back to this app soon.
Since I updated my Galaxy S to 2.3.4 it stopped working.
I was so sad about this. Now my phone always turns off the screen without me wanting it to..
Wish you good work on it.
Peace
I have a couple of D2Gs running Gingerbread, since the update to Gingerbread the greatest consumer of battery life is the Display, I regularly see 40-60% usage and often only minutes of actual time on.
It seems to be a conflict between the built-in auto brightness and the Screebl low brightness setting. Low brightness is great except when you pull the phone out of your pocket and need to see something at midday...
I discovered that the Juicedefender brightness control manages to keep the brightness at a super low level most of the time, but still auto brightens the screen when required in bright light.
I guess my feature request would be either to have an option to completely remove the brightness control or to take it over with a system that keeps it on minimum brightness but with an user controllable setting to auto increase the backlight when the light sensor detects a particular value.
Thanks for a great app!
I need to update the docs and settings descriptions, but choosing "min brightness" will defer to the phone's sensor generally. That's what I use on my phones.
Dock stuff has been flaky and needs some revamping. I'm planning on redoing the entire loop and eventing framework for the app. It's gotten crazy complicated with all of the device-specific tweaks and conditions involved.
Support for custom lockscreens would be nice. E.g. disable Screebl when MiLocker is in the foreground. Had to stop using Screebl since I started to use MiLocker becuase I can't stand the stock ugly lockscreen.
Just wanted to give those of you that registered interest in Screebl 3.0 a heads up that I've done a ground-up rewrite of the app. It's in beta now -- not pretty, but the underlying engine should be better in many ways, including:
- more compatible with a larger number of devices (moved the accelerometer usage to more modern APIs)
- better with respect to power consumption
- simplified, removed some of the functionality that just didn't work well (like stillness detection)
Still lots of work and polish left to do, but if you want to play with the latest engine, take a look here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keyes.screebl.beta
Let me know what you think!

I just tried Screebl Beta, and noticed that the proximity sensor is always on, even though the checkbox for it is not checked.
They way I can tell, is that with one of my old phones, the proximity sensor actually glows a faint red light when it's on. To save battery, shouldn't the sensor be off if the checkbox is not checked ?
Firstly, let me say thanks on producing a great app. Always my first installation on any new device.
I've had a small issue on my nexus 5, running 4.4.2 where screebl lite and screebl beta keep turning themselves off. It happens roughly once a day and I have to go into settings and re-enable screebl. Its only a niggle, and not worth uninstallation thankfully.
Good luck on Version 3. :victory:

Problems after jellybean update

I am noticing some problems with my s3 after the official jellybean update. It feels like it has been rushed to the phone. For example it doesn't have the quick reply feature in the notification window. It does for missed calls but not for messages. This is one the most anticipated features for me. Also when watching you tube and you don't want the screen to rotate it now does. I want to lock the rotation so I only get the small video at the top when my phone is on its side. It worked before jellybean update. Also auto brightness has changed. When auto brightness is selected you can manually turn it up with the slider in the notification window and it disables auto brightness and changes to what you set on the slider. Now on jellybean you have to uncheck the auto brightness box and then slide. Little features like this are starting to make me feel like it has been a massive rush to get jellybean on to the s3 which is ironic seen as though it took long enough. I have the international i9300 model s3. Is anybody else noticing the problems I have stated? Does anybody know a way of changing/getting the features? Thanks.
They were definitely to busy with the Note II, I mean come on at least give their flag ship the same/some of the features that a bigger version of the S3 has... That sexy multitasking should have been on the initial jelly bean update.

I know what you mean. The note got great features like the multi window. Apparently that's coming before the new year but I highly doubt that. Are you noticing the same problems I am? Another problem I found is when screen goes off after inactivity you used to be able to press the home button a moment after it goes off and it would turn the screen back on leaving you at the page you was. Now the home button takes you back to the home when you press it. It's annoying you have to go back to the app.

Me too, my problem is the battery with jb lj4
I think there is a few little niggles but overal its pretty much the same.
The autobrightness don't disable automatically now when you adjust the slider as you can now actually adjust the autobrightness brightness, Not sure why though.
Google Now - leaving it active at the mo, but not really found any usefullness from it as yet. The Time home feature is ok, would be good if it actually showed the route I take home - Via motorway, rather than the route through city center which i don't take!!
The new notifcation bar - its ok, nothing major. Expect a bit of all these features will improve over time as well once apps get proper updates. Some work but don't have full functionally - Songpop has no notifications now for example.
Battery Life - I did find that my normal phone use on ISC which included about 50/60 mins worth of calls etc wi-fi left on all the time but only actually connected to wi-fi at home (just 2G & 3G at work) i would have about 55/60% battery life left by the time i got home from work, on Jelly Bean - with the same useage i had about 40/45% left. I am now back to the same as before on ISC, but i didn't disable google now or anything just turned Wi-Fi off when left home and turn it back on when home - results was 55/60% battery remaining a as on ISC. Seems that the Wi-Fi drains when not connected - either it keeps on searching which it might not of done on ISC or its the Google Now doing something (Does say improve location by keeping wifi on - does this even if not connected!!) - Least this way i can still use google now and see how it improves its tags overtime.
I am now using a App called WiFi Timer to automatically switch Wifi on and off when i leave/get home.
Love that it now has voice downloaded so you can text etc with no data connection - find its more accurate now as well!
Never had the small vids on Youtube when rotated phone so not sure about that. Take it disabling autorotate doesn't do this?
Good and Bad
My experience is as follows:
Good:
Sheer speed, no perceivable lag.
A problem I had with only half the SMS notification tone being played (before it cut off) has gone away.
Bad:
Battery drain terrible even when idle. Turning off Google Now, Location Services and Samsung Push Notification fixed this.
When I activate Smart Stay, the screen does not want to turn off 80% of the time - even when I'm not looking at it.
When I wake the phone using the home key, it exits the app I was in. Previously, this would wake the device and return you to the current app (after unlocking). I have a partial work around using the PreHome app; this way the app is still visible underneath the PreHome dialogue box and I just need to press Back to get to my app again.
Widgets, seem to refresh less regularly, particularly Messaging and Gmail widgets which seem to hardly even refresh when I want them too.
Of No Consequence:
The red charging led is a little dimmer when charging.
Overall:
The speed benefits outweigh the niggles - just!

Yep i know, but this app is far better as it lets you setup different profiles for mornings, evenings & weekends etc which the inbuilt one don't. :good:
root?
i may just root my phone as i really am not happy with this jellybean update, nothing has really improved for me, if i root it and install a rom like codename all the features like quick reply would be there right?

[Design Complaints] List your KitKat Issues Here

I didn't see a thread to list any problems / issues that you have with the new TMO KitKat release, so I created this one! I'll start:
With the new version, I can't put Google Now on the main lockscreen. It is placed on the lockscreen to the right of the initial lock screen, but I have to swipe to see that, and I may as well just unlock the device, where the Google Now widget is on my home screen. With 4.3 I had that Google Now widget on the main lock screen.
For those who may not have used it, one can swipe left on the lockscreen and view widgets. More screens can be added, although the list of widgets available for the lockscreen is somewhat limited.

HD 720/1080p MP4 videos (downloaded HD music videos) stutter occasionally and feel like they maybe slightly out of audio sync. Contrast seems lower and brightness seems to high, faces seem more washed out and seems not as high resolution as previous 4.3 and 4.1.2. I see more blocks and pixelation that I remember.
Beats Audio does not sound as good, less bass and lower highs make it sound noticeably worse especially on headphones.
Weird wallpaper issue when using my own wallpaper. After certain length of time in apps like chrome or newsstand, after exiting, the wallpaper, if not on BlinkFeed, is not extended all the way past the dock. There appears a shadow affect or crop issue were the scrolls bar is. If you scroll to right and back it fixes.
Poor battery life, but this could be an issue with certain apps like Google Plus (it just used my entire 500mb in a couple hours with no auto backup or photo backup).
A little sluggish in certain system menus that you wouldnt think it would be, cant remember which ones, could be while moving folders around.
When WiFi optimization is on, it frequently does not want to reconnect well after leaving a wifi area and returning. It shows connected but speed is very slow.
The HTC Messaging app contact photo issue from 4.3 has been fixed
Personally I think they restricted the memory requirement too much for phones with more than 1gb ram.
I would downgrade back to 4.3 but dont know how
Ive gone from 4.1.2 to 4.3 to 4.4.2 within only a few days so I was kinda familiar with how things worked on the previous versions before I updated to 4.4.2, plus I have OCD)
It's good to hear the 4.3 messaging contact picture bug is fixed. Too bad I won't be updating to 4.4. No flash. Lame

I hadn't realized Flash didn't work. I don't really use it. It is odd, since the flash player is still installed on my device. Stupid Google...
Got Flash working
I got flash working on my kitkat by using the following instructions:

I realized today that the zoom bar for the camera is gone, so now a pinch is required.

Two issues I'm having:
- When I connect to my external speaker via bluetooth, my wifi speed drops tremendously. Didn't happen before.
- My screen keeps randomly turning on. It's very annoying. Can't find a reason or a setting that could be causing it.
Also (this one isn't really a "bug"), when I plug in my phone, the screen turns on. I remember previous HTC phones used to do this, but they stopped it with the One, which I liked. But unfortunately it's back now
My picture quality is way down with this update. On 4.3 I had the stock camera app and the Nexus 5 camera app on it and they took great photos and corrected the faint purple hue I'd get sometimes. On 4.4 there is tons of noise and color hues even in bright lit rooms! So I'm back on 4.3 for now and the camera is great again.
Battery life is worse for me
After 5 days with KitKat now, battery life has not improved. I used to burn at about 3-3.5% / hour in a normal day on 4.3 JB. It is now around 4.5-5% / hour. The battery use screen on Sense does not offer any helpful information either. Now, BetterBatteryStats is unable to collect partial wakelock information (it can with root, which I don't have).
BBS does allow me to see that my CPU is in deep sleep about 7 out of the last 8.5 hours. That doesn't seem right. I can't see any apps that would be waking it that much and I have only had screen on for 15-20 minutes reading email, etc. It seems like something is hold the CPU awake, but BBS won't tell me any more.
I have turned off Blinkfeed and Auto sync and it made no difference. I am starting to disable apps now.
Any other suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? (preferably without rooting)

Thanks. I had already done both of those.
Keep pushing the suggestions. I am trying to see if I can correct without a factory reset.
Well, I seem to have fixed my battery drain issues. I did a factory reset and started from scratch. *gah*
I did do an adb backup before, but it wouldn't restore. So, the upside is I can setup everything from scratch and add apps, etc. one at a time.

What are some of the things you don't like about OC5?

The one that made me write this post is that when in some other program, like Internet browser, the notification area is changed, color wise. I can't figure out the logic behind that.
Battery life has been pretty bad after 24 hours too.
Voicemail not auto signing in, after using the Google master phone account user name and password.
With using menu, button, and back keys, the ui experience has changed dramatically. I've never had to have a settings widget to get fast access before.
I'm sure there will be a big learning curve going from 4.4.4 to 5.0 but this, IMO, is counter productive. This is coming from someone that has been with android for 6 years. Changing button mappings? Why?
I dislike the notification space being used up by the s finder and quick connect. I also dislike not having the menu key being the app switch key. Battery life isn't awful for me, but I do think it's a little worse.
Here something I do like though. For a long time I had an audio skipping problem that I assumed was a hardware issue. After the update it's GONE. I was so happy about that.
GPS Broken
The update has managed to break my GPS. Cannot get a lock
Washed out graphics
What I don't like about lollipop is the big washed out, flat no detail icons, and backgrounds. I realize that this is how they are going to get better battery life. By cutting down on displays, there detail and intensity. I noticed they have doubled up on there icons. One icon does many things, but you have wonder through the menu on the icon to get where you want to go. To me it looks like something you would see on a first generation smartphone, just saying !!!

I'm noticing app studdering while running without a reboot. Even when there are no apps in the app end screen, some games and music apps hiccup. Yes I'm running old versions of apps, mainly because the new ones are over bloated or crap or aren't hacked. I have old versions of candy crush and pandora and tunein radio pro. The reasons I'm still running them are that they are the last version that you could use the bump clock for lives cheat, unlimited skips and no commercials, and I hated the totally revamped versions.
I'm now running at 2% battery and things are unbelievably fast. Seems like no consistent performance so far.

[A2017G 1.3.0B02 ] Oreo Bugs and other issues Collection Thread

Hey everyone,
This will be a Thread for collecting all the kinds of bugs and other issues you might have encountered.
I talked to the german FB group and talked about them sending them a collection of bugs etc from the community. They gave me an email address (from the communication team) where i can send it to once everything is done.
They will then proceed to send the information to the people developing for axon 7 (A2017G in this case). Of course it's not guaranteed that they will definitely fix all the issues. But it's worth a shot imo.
So at first it's important that bugs have the most importance in this thread since those have to be fixed in order to get an enjoyable oreo experience.
BUT you can also post any features you want to have back (examples are daydream, screen color calibration)
To get things finally started, here are the issues that i gathered so far from this thread:
-SD card mounting issues (SD card doesn't stay mounted after reboot)
-Increased battery drain (mixed opinion, some say it's worse, some say it's the same as nougat)
-Preinstalled apps which are uninstallable (like Accuweather, WPS Office) reinstall themselves after reboot
-Events set in Google calendar don't show a notification
-Bluetooth audio developer options (LDAC, 32bit, 96khz, etc) do not stick
-screencast not working on some miracast devices
-Panorama has lower vertical resolution (approximately 1900px while Nougat had 2800px)
-Charging sound file is missing (now it uses error sound file when connecting/disconnecting USB which sounds really annoying)
Missing Features that you wish to come back or added:
-Screen Color Calibration
-Daydream (which might come back since how they worded it to be temporarily disabled)
-Camera2 api not yet fully implemented
-Vulkan API (was present in Nougat, now removed in Oreo for unknown reason)
-Screen lock app (shortcut in quick settings to lock the device)
-Option to remove Carrier name in status bar
-Dark Mode option (preferably true black background for the while UI like quicksettings menu, settings menu etc for max SOT.)
-More sorting options for stock music player (by title number etc instead of by alphabetical order)
-ZTE Toolbox app
I'm sure there is more. But this is what i have found so far as of now. If there is any more issues you encountered, please post them so i can add them to the list.
Also if i missed any additional info for the issues above, please feel free to tell me.
- Dark mode option
- further dimming option (lowest brightness still too bright)
- screen off toggle/widget
1. Screen cast still won't work well, I never get it connected to miracast since nougat and they didnt fix it on oreo, all my other devices work so good with the same miracast.
2. Battery drain faster than nougat or I think this even worse than oreo beta build B01.
Feature:
- The alphabetical order on music folder for stock music is still annoying. No one hopes listening music from A to Z based on title.

I don't know if it's just me, but I have a bug where the download manager won't download anything for a long time despite having stable internet connection. This affects Play Store app downloads and downloads other than Chrome (since Chrome has its own download manager it seems). Basically, if I want to quickly download an app or update them, the initialisation starts but it keeps waiting for stuff to download. It won't abort with an error, it just sticks to the spinning circle. In the notification bar you won't see the download arrow animation, which should be there actually. But if I lay down my phone for a while and then pick it up, it may start downloading normally. It's very annoying, you can imagine m

I know what you mean. But it's not a bug from oreo. I had this too on nougat. Sometimes it still happens. But not as often as it used to be. Dunno what fixes it sadly, but thats probably an issue of play services messing up something since the axon 7 isn't alone. Many other devices have this problem as well sometimes. It comes and goes randomly.
And as you said, chrome and other apps with their own download manager don't seem to have these issues. Again, it's probably play services doing something wrong. Not sure tho, just a guess as play services had many problems in their history

Quick settings, status bar and system settings are all unbearably white. Due to Google's safety measures you can't even use a third party filter anymore.
On Nougat you could change the quick settings to gray at least and use a third party filter for all the rest. On Oreo, no chance at all. What a bad user experience!
So why even bother with a system update, if it doesn't let you adjust the display brightness to your liking anymore?! And I haven't even mentioned the usefulness of an all white UI on an AMOLED screen (Battery!?).
Panorama has lower vertical resolution.
Nougat approx 2800px
Oreo approx 1900px
Signal issues
Hd calls work with incoming but call does not connect for outgoing
Band switching issue band keeps switching thats the main reason for battery drain on 4g
My network is Jio 4g in India
It works in band 3 5 and 40
3 and 5 bands work together but they wont work well with 40 that is they keep switching from one to other with internet connecting and disconnecting
So i switched off band 40 using network signal guru app with magisk root permissions and everything works fine except slow internet speed and persistent hd call issue
Can anyone make solution for band issue
If there is a possiblity to reduce the heat generated during simple tasks.
I had most of those issues: significantly worse battery life, camera freeze when using RAW capture, when I reseted the phone, everything is back to normal, maybe battery is like 5-10% worse than nougat but not sure. Can't say anything about the missing features. I want them too, but most of wanted a Stock + UI and now we complain ? vanilla Android lacks many features like it or not. Hope they release some future firmware update to fix any issues and update the security bulletin.

I disagree on both of your statements. here is why:
1. It is possible to downgrade, but not with all official update.zip that exist (I succeeded in the meantime!)
2. It is a bug in the Oreo rom that the device type is not set, preventing majority of old update.zip to run since they check the device type
I am missing the stock Nougat 'lock screen' option in the Quick options menu. I am using an app to soft lock the screen at the moment which works but am not sure at all why they removed it in first place.
I am also missing the Messaging and Phone customization options available in Nougat, including the different message bubbles types and the background change settings. It is now simply white and blue and you couldn't change it.
I have had a hard time fixing the Notification problem Oreo brought to many apps, including system, resulting in oversleeping for alarm clock app not working at all. This may not be a particular problem of ZTE directly since apparently it is an Oreo issue but I still don't understand why so many notifications have been forced to the swipe-down menu without default option to disable them. Like "this and this process running in the background" and using default notification tone for every single thing happening to the phone. Adjusting settings in Android System notification modes solved some problems but delayed or not showed at all certain notifications like SMS messages or alarm clock not working - even though these were specifically made to pop and make sound.
Battery life for me varies. It may be up to 10-12 hours if I don't do almost anything and just keep it in stand-by to 3-4-5 hours if I use the screen, some browsing and listening to music. Screen-on-Time in general is up to 2-3 hours in best case scenario. Also sometimes for no apparent reason I see the battery percentage going down like every few seconds by 1 percent and with no use of anything special, just the screen. Overall I could rate it (a little) worse than Nougat considering that I've now gone through all Power settings and disabling anything I don't need per app.
I can only congratulate ZTE for making Dolby Atmos now working on both earphones and front speakers at all times, including with custom player equalizer running at the same time as Dolby Atmos. It never worked for me and was also accompanied with various bugs on all 6, 6.1, 7 and 7.1.
The "choose what your SD card should do" on every restart is pretty bad and I strongly prefer the Nougat behavior when it simply worked. Maybe adding a Setting - "do not ask again" or an option in the System Settings where you can change the status of the SD card on the go would work better than unmounting it every time. This causes many issues with file managers, players and different other apps with files located on the SD card. I hope they re-work it.
Finally, I noticed that Ultra Power Saver works in a much worse way than it did on Nougat. It kind of goes into another OS mode upon return from which it does not start apps that are set to auto-start upon reboot. The Nougat style of simply black-and-whit-ening the screen and turning off any data was so much better and didn't return the phone in a half-functioning state when connected to the charger. Also at 15% as I adjusted it, the middle power saving function (Power Saver or so) does not seem to be at least visibly working so the battery keeps draining as fast as if it was not on.
So, in short - dark(er) Quick Menu, getting back Nougat default app customization options, fixing the SD card message upon every reboot, not forcing TouchPal to be default keyboard or in use even if another keyboard is chosen, or disabling both, and possibly working on better battery life would be all amazing. I still think ZTE did a great job with 8.0 and am happy they finally released it to us.
The phone was frozen and restarted several times.
After that, fingerprint doesn't work and I had to reconfigure fingerprint record.
