Titanium Back Up Restore Problem... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Okay so every time I restore using titanium back up pro all of my apps force close and I can't use them. Is there any fix for this? I'm tired of uninstalling and re-installing my apps.

Try "TB Restore Fixer" in the play store.

Make sure that you have "restorecon" file in the /system/bin directory. "TB Restore Fixer" needs that file.

Well that's a problem, I just checked in my bin folder and that file doesn't exist. Am I SOL?

Nope. I was in the same boat. I think that I got a copy of it from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463116 Scroll down about 11 replies and there will be a link for it. Just unzip it and place it in the /system/bin directory and make sure the permissions are correct. Then rerun "TB Restore Fixer". I don't recall, but I think that you'll need to run TiBu to restore the files again...

I use Titanium Backup Pro and Freeze the apps for now...
If you have root, you can download Root Explorer from the app store. Use it to browse to the app directory and just delete the apps you don't want. Another option is to rename the unwanted apps. For example, change APPNAME.apk to APPNAME.apk.bk ... then it will be "hidden" from the system. Restore it at anytime by removing the ".bk" extension.

Is there a free version of root explorer? Or a free way to rename these files? I don't really feel like paying $4 to remove bloatware.

Anytime I connect via my computer, it says permission denied for su. I know I have root, so I am a little confused. I can uninstall with Titanium Backup, but I was planning on keeping a copy of the apk, just in case. Is there any reason I would need this bloatware? Such as for Warranty or insurance? Other wise I'll just go and remove the worst of the bloat with Titanium backup. Thanks.

there is RUU downloads in the Dev forum that will get you back to where you need to be in case you want to warranty your phone and make it 100% stock again. Best thing to do before removing stuff is boot into clockwork recovery or use rom manager(from the market) and backup everything...then delete. if you come across a problem with deleting something jsut restore from a backup.

[Q] titanium back up won't aquire root, I'm rooted.

Although I have superuser operating fine with terminal emulator, and when I type SU into terminal it gives me "#" sign, Titanium Backup won't acquire root. Does anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I've tried reinstalling TB and seeing if it's upgraded/patched.
Edit2: I've installed busybox and made sure SU is updated. TB still won't find root even though it says i'm rooted in TB.

Use es file explorer from the market.go into settings and check box to show hidden files then look in /data/bin/ delete any files in that folder then reboot and TB should be fine.

freezing apps that you dont know what they do is a very easy way to get a bootloop
you can use the system dump to fix it if you know how to use adb a bd push the apps you froze
alternatively
if you can get the phone to connect to your computer you can use adb shell to unfreeze you frozen apps with the following commands
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
ls
//look at what apps have .fro extensions added
rn appname.apk.fro appname.apk
//repeat
that will fix it
Contacts FC fix?
So I screwed up and deleted the yahoo files instead of freeze them on titanium...getting the dreaded contacts force close issue. How can I use this system dump to restore those deleted files? Can I install the apk's through something like astro? Sorry, total noob apparently....had no idea yahoo would have anything to do with contacts..oh well. Thanks.

So is it as easy as doing a copy all from the system/app folder from the dump onto the razr's system/app folder using a file manager like astro?

not at all. be my guest if you want to try. A. i dont think that astro can access the root folder last time i tried, might have changed since, you would need to use a file manager that can access, mount rw/ro, and change permissions of the system files and/or folders in the root.
B. i tried it already and everytime you try to reinstall the system apps through a file manager it says installation failed.
You have to put all the system apps in the folder AND set the right permissions

Well, it appears that if you were like me and deleted one of those applications, you're SOL. I've diligently went through the system dump provided, and added all the items I was missing into my /system/app, changed all the permissions to the correct ones, reboot..and still nothing. Even did a full system wipe/factory reset afterwards to no avail. I know this method worked with other phones, but apparently, the RAZR kernal doesn't allow for it. It seems the only solution would be if a SBF was created that can fully restore the phone to factory install...fingers crossed! So what can we take away from this...don't be an idiot like me and delete apps...just freeze them. I think I must be the only one who screwed that up...=/

Thanks for the system dump ... i check the bootintro ... i don't like the rogers ... ( rogers branded ... )

Freeze sdm the second you gain root

So the ota wont try to install itself. I see a lot of people annoyed with ota notifications. this is the solution

Another simple tip, if you have to Odin after a soft brick, immediately start airplane mode until the rooting process is done. Me personally I keep the RomToolbox apk on my SD card so I don't even have to sign in to download.
Great tips!!

Just so I'm 100% sure I'm safe...
(I am rooted and thought I had already taken care of this, but obviously had not...)
I had an OTA notification waiting for me when I woke up this morning. I declined and it said something to the effect that it would automatically try again at 0100 (1 AM) and make sure my phone was charged and yada, yada, yada...
After that, I immediately renamed \system\app\sdm.apk to "SDM.bak" (I also renamed FWUpgrade.apk in the same manner as directed in another post I saw).
So...that's all I should have to do right? Is there a downloaded update hanging out somewhere that needs to be deleted as well? My phone won't attempt to install this later at 0100 tonight?

The actual OTA download will be located in /cache. Delete with root explorer.
The download goes into the Data/FOTA folder. Find that and remove all permissions. I cant take credit for that one because I read it from another user that confirmed it stopped the OTA.
1. Open Root Browser
2. Navigate to data/fota
3. Long Press and select Permissions
4. Uncheck all boxes making it 0000

would it be better just to delete the update? The file is about 327MB and that's unwanted space being used

I think the logic behind leaving the update file there, but with permissions removed is because that would effectively block the update from being re-downloaded again, or being run by the updater.
Granted, that point is probably moot if the correct updater apps are already frozen, but it's an extra layer of assurance.

FWIW, the FWupgrade.apk didn't have an associated odex file on mine.

You don't even need Titanium backup. I never see it mentioned here so I don't know if anyone knows it exists, but I think the free app "System Tuner" by 3c is much better that Titanium and has way more features.

Yeah, I just prefer to manually rename/remove files that I know for a fact I don't want running. Freezing apps via TiB works well for bloatware and stuff like that...stuff that I *may* want to activate again later, but in this case, I'm 100% sure I do NOT want to run any OTA updates.
Most people use titanium back up or other apps because a lot of users don't understand file and folder permissions or how to run commands with adb or terminal etc. Manually doing it in cases like this is good so you know that its disabled. Especially when its something like this.
