This happened in front of my eyes, I downloaded the new walking dead game and half way through it disconnected me from the wifi and now I'm getting all sorts of errors like: being stuck on Obtaining IP adress and failed to retrieve IP adress or something like that and Cant connect to wifi because connection is too slow or something like that. Now I'm stuck on using mobile data.Searched for solutions but didnt find any and I dont want to do a wipe.

First step is to flash latest firmware and factory reset, if still the same afterward then it's hardware.

i tried other wifi spots but still i got same results.. what seems to be the problem? do u think its hardware issues? i can detect all the wifi connections available but once i got connected, i cant browse or use the market. is it hardware?
also to add to the problem, i tried the bluetooth, i cant receive files but i can send files to others..
i think best way is to flash another ROM .. Wipe everything before you flash & see it it works otherwise flash Radio if you not having latest one Radio for Hero GSM Then i think VillainROM Guys are having you can check their forums ..and try that
i think i have issues with my wifi at home.. because when i try public wifi's i can connect to some but i also cant to some free wifi. which is weird. i have a wildfire before and this was not an issue for me
Last year I had a similar problem that I fixed by assigning my hero a static ip address. For some reason dhcp did not work.
Strangely enough I don't have that problem anymore.
Back then I had stock 1.5 OS. Now I have every ROM. Well, you know what I mean.

This could very well be an issue with your router firmware. Some routers are just plain ****ty.
Can you maintain a connection without any encryption (WEP,WPA,WPA2,etc)?
I'm using a US bought tab in India running stock rom...i've rooted the tab
My problem is when i connect to the internet, using my wifi modem the connection get interrupted every 3 or 4 mins...i need to switch off the wifi in my tab and again restart it to get the connection back...it is so irritating...
I read somewhere that the tab has a text file that temporarily stores the ip address of that browsing session. But here we use dynamic ip address...
I read that when we erase the text file, the browsing gets to normal...
Someone pls help me with a solution
I rechecked the router and it is working very well with my laptop and mobile...

I had the same problem, but i did fix it by resetting router to factory settings
and changing the wifi channel to non-overlapping channel 11 (also channels 1 and 6 are non-overlapping channels). NB! reboot is not the same as resetting router to factory settings.
After that i removed my wifi spot from SGS by long press and forget in wifi settings. Then SGS shut down and reboot to router. When router was fully up again i did turn SGS on let it found my wifi again. Everything was perfect after that. I did not upgrade the routers firmware, but in certain cases, if firmware is really old, it might be necessary to do.
Some say, that removing file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.lease.list will help, so you can try that too
Thank you... I'll try it...
One more doubt... Will deleting the mentioned file damage the tab's wifi in any other way like not connecting other channel forms?

I did wipe that file away without any consequensies, but if you want, you can save it somewhere before deleting. System creates a new file soon after the new wifi connections are created.
for some reasons wpa/wpa2/aes/tkip are difficult to android, but the wifi routers firmware upgrade + factory resetting or only factory resetting helps in most cases of that kind of problems. Hope you get help
Thank you again...i'll try it
Hi guys,
So my Evo 3D updated to ICS last night, internet worked before and after update. The phones internet just stopped working, it connects to the wifi router, tries to sync, i try open anything that requires internet and no internet. The symptoms are as if i entered a setting wrong, but trust me i have been trying this for hours to FORGET network then re-add it. I rebooted the router, i have tried connecting to another router, it connects but no internet (i am using static, its my work connection). I can ping the phone.
What are your suggestions? I have cleared all cache, took battery out. When i use Mobile Network everything then works. This is very frustrating as Wifi should be a simple thing for Android. PLEEEEEASSSEEE get this working
I have the same problem... today i updated my evo to android ICS and connect to wifi, wifi is connected, but not internet
Try to do factory reset.

I tried but it did not help..
Simple, ##786#. Enter your MSL code. Click yes. Phone will format itself (no, not your SD card). It will clear any NV (Non-Volatile) memory. And it will have blanked out IDs for Username and MEID and whatnot. This is not just a factory reset or a /data wipe. After it finally boots up, it will give the 'Hands-Free Activation', followed by 1x connection, followed by 3G.
I am assuming that the ICS update was an OTA, which means that I am unaware of the official Sprint update. I'll read the General forums see if that's what it is. Nonetheless, if this is a custom ROM, be aware that some custom ROMs will NOT properly activate after an RTN reset. In the case that it IS the case; and you don't have any connectivity, even phone services, simply flash a Stock rooted ROM. Edit: I see you did mean the official OTA, so ignore this paragraph as it only applies to a few custom Sense ROMs, and all AOSP ROMs which can accept ##RTN#.
In the case that your phone is not rooted / S-Off, ignore the entirety of the 2nd paragraph.
Hmm, maybe ignore all this, seeing as how I misread it was your WiFi erroring. I do not see how an RTN will fix that. One of the .ko files probably needs replacing.

Same problem here. I connect to home wifi with static IP address and I can access everything in LAN but internet does not work. Yesterday I was connected on DHCP wifi at work and it worked without problem and when I came home, at my surprise, my static home network also worked (without changing anything). But today I was not connected to work wifi and when I came home I got same problem again

There are also others with same problem: http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-3d/183734-no-internet-access-through-wifi-after-evo3d-upgrade-ics.htm
DNLA auto-IP make sure thats not checked It shows connected when this option is checked but internet does not work. Make sure DNLA auto IP is not checked. This is under advanced options.
Hi!
I had the same problem yesterday as I installed the TeamGenesis 1.0 ICS ROM.
I restored all my data (also the system settings) and there was the problem. The "APN" has to be reset in the settings to default and than it worked for me again.

try configuring your mobile network access point.

OTA upgrade sometimes cause problem, please search a RUU ICS Stock, extract to get rom.zip, rename it and flash it via Fastboot.
My home Wi-Fi setup was working fine with my galaxy S3 until this afternoon. The only thing that has changed is that I installed Serviio on my computer to connect to my PVR.
I've since uninstalled it but I still can't get my galaxy to connect. It sees it fine and says the signal is strong but every time I try to connect I get a "authentication error". I've tried rebooting the computer, the phone and the WiFi modem/router.
The only thing I can think of is that when I set the security on Serviio I used a different password than the normal WiFi login and maybe that caused some kind of conflict. But that seems pretty fast fetched to me.
So please, does anyone have any ideas?

The phone P769 was working fine, I factory reset it . After that, wifi keeps having " obtaining IP " from different routers/networks then disconnect. During the "obtaining IP " I can ping the phone from another device. I already try to reset router and the phone again. Any idea ? TIA
Your WiFi maybe be going out. I doubt that a system file got corrupt. You maybe having issues with busybox. Sounds like busybox replaced a toolbox applet. Just guessing mostly
