Hey all,
I decided to encrypt my phone this morning (CM10.2, security->encryption). The phone does its thing, asks me for my PIN, and then goes and completes the encryption.
When it starts up again it says "type password to decrypt storage"? I put in my pin but it doesnt recognize it! I tried to use CWM to wipe dalvik/factory reset/etc. but nothing fixed it.
I then followed the instructions for tSilenzio and did a factory reset. The reset worked, but it STILL ASKS ME FOR THE DAMN PASSWORD WHEN IT STARTS. To make it worse, now I can't get back into CWM.
I never had a password set, only a pin. How can I fix this? I cant get into the phone anymore.

If I were you i will give up on everything that's on my internal storage and install stock LG 4.1.2 through LGPNST. This deletes everything so probably that can help to get your phone back.

I did this via tSilenzio's guide (pastebin.com/ksfdhjGz). I flashed LGE970ATT-V20j-Stock.bin and lgnpst_ls970.dll using LGNPST. When it finished flashing at 67% it loaded with the ATT logo but it still says "type password to decrypt storage" when it boots up.
Did I miss a step somewhere?
Ok, I managed to fix it.
After flashing back to stock I pressed power+volume-down and did a hard reset. Booted right up.
Thanks.

Hi!
I try to tell my lovely story, let's hope someone can help me, because i am in a huge trouble.
Today i installed WIFIunlocker on my device, and unfortunately, i gave access to the device administrator right to the application, plus i set up a password. Using the app i realised this is not that iam looking for, so i decided to remove it. Tryed to uninstall it, but for the first try i got an error, later on i realised that i need to turn off the device administrator mode inside the app, everything is fine, i was able to unintall it. Now the nightmare starts...
After uninstalling the app, locking the screen then unlocking the phone, it asks for password. I was a bit surprised because i just removed the related app. Nvm, i just entered my "password", but it was wrong. Before the uninstall it worked, now, after the uninstall it doesn't. At this point i can't do anything with the phone, because iam stucked on the "password screen".
What i did today:
- started from Litening rom v2.0
- i was hopeless, so wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache + darvik cache, formated system+data+cache
- installed LeoMar v2.5
- After the boot the it still asked for the password, i removed the sim-card, and somehow was able to access the phone, but unfortunately it locked itself, the "password screen" popped up again.
- My last try was flashing stock KG6 rom then later on CF-Root, but now i can't boot the phone into recovery mode. Download still works.
- What happends when i try to boot it to recovery, the Samsung Galaxy S 2 title shows up, but after that immediately asking for the "password". Before this, the phone booted fully / i was able the access the recovery mode.
So my question is, what can i do now? How can i get rid of this "password screen?"
Youtube video
Same problem
But I switched off administrator mode before uninstalled
and i used only one password so it can not be wrong.
I think that the app is a joke or a prank?
DID you managed to fix that?
Well I managed to make my phone the same brick as yours.
What now.
Did g4rb4g3 = Garbage did in purpose?
I think using download mode to restore your efs partition backup will fix this since password and pin info is saved on it.
Volume DOWN + Home + Power.
Do you have a custom recovery?
Wipe everything. All of it. Flash a new rom. How the hell is this impossible to remove? Flashing a rom wipes all crap right? Wth..
---
Edit: Seems the app is known for this bug with many others. Mods should take the app down, it's killing devices, turning them unusable. If the dev can reproduce the problem or if someone smart enough could come up with a fix..

Wrong the password/pin is on the efs partition which is NEVER touched during flashes or wipes.
Or flash a AOSP rom like cm7 or MIUI since they don't use the efs partition for lock settings.
ANd i fixed it again from the brick
Just go to download mode
flush it with stock
after restart try to go to recovery it will ask you about the password
type anything as many timea as it will tell you that if you will try again it will wipe out your internall sd card
of course try once more it will wipe out your sd card and ask you again for password
type anything again and again and it will warn you again that if you try again it will wipe the internal sd card and after that you will see red info that your pass was changed to NULL
restart
and you are in and all is back to normall

You can blame him same as yourself. This story shows that you need to be really careful when you mess with your phone. This true from the developer side and from the user side. At least we have some information about this for the future and we can help people out.
Hello,
I've had my S3 for over a year now and it has been mostly running great. Whenever I've had issues I tried to solve them by myself, but this time I was unable to fix my phone, so I must ask for help.
Here's what happened. I left my phone on my desk today and one of my co-workers fiddled with it. He opened SuperSU and then a message popped up saying that SU binary needs to be updated. He then choose to update it via CWM. The phone then restarted and upon starting shows the startup screen then it tries to enter the recovery, but instead it just shows it for a brief moment and then it restarts again. It keeps doing that over and over again. If I remove the battery and then insert it back again, the phone will turn on by itself and continue to reboot after failing to open CWM.
I tried to enter the recovery, but had no success. The phone did enter the Download Mode though, but flasing a ROM via ODIN will remove all of the data stored on the phone and I really need it. The phone is currently running Android Revolution HD 40.
Is there a way to get my phone operational again without loosing the data stored on it?
Thanks in advance.

First of all what are co workers doing messing with your phone I would seriously not be happy!! screen lock comes to mind!
As the above post said flash another recovery in odin I recommend Philz recovery, backup your data in recovery then factory reset if that does not work flash another rom via recovery or return to stock with odin. You can also boot into recovery with adb but I would try above first.
Then charge your co-worker for all the time wasted trying to fix phone
Thank you so much for the idea, I just tried this and it worked! After flashing new recovery via ODIN, I'm now able to access my phone. There was no need to flash the ROM again, as it was fine, the only problem was with the recovery.
And I still have my data!
Thank you very much again, cheers

He's actually a good guy and I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose. He told me that he was playing a game and he tried to add more coins using GameCIH. Then the prompt to allow root access to the app came up along with a notification to update the SU binary. He said he pressed that button by mistake. I wasn't mad at the guy, I was only upset that I may lose my data.

you are welcome! glad to see that it works again.
I encrypted my phone a while back and went ahead and installed a new rom today and now when I boot up and it asks for a password it keeps telling me its incorrect. I have access to the recover menu + download, but odin keeps failing and tried kies with no luck... Help?
I cannot mount the EMMC which is why I am having this issue =[
Update:
Fixed everything =]
Decided to just try to install every rom I can. Black star didnt fix it, installed liquid smooth and it booted right up.
Never mind.... Still encrypted. Can install liquid smooth, but other roms ask for a password to decrypt the storage =/
Hey,
So I was trying to root my phone (been trying for ages now) and I've been following loads of guides because each one never seemed to work. Now, I know I haven't bricked my phone, but I've somehow managed to lock myself out of it instead. I can't use the fingerprint lock, and the password that I use doesn't work (it says I've put in the wrong password, but if it isn't that, then what is it?).
I tried hard resetting my phone but it didn't work either (I have an unlocked bootloader btw). I tried looking it up and all the guides I followed ended up taking me to recovery mode (which also doesn't work - it doesn't connect to my computer because it defaults to "usb for charging" instead of MTP).
This is really stressing me out and I don't know how to fix it. I've been trying for hours and it will not unlock, no matter what I do. I even tried to do that Google account unlock thing, but there's no "Forgot password?" on the lock screen.
I feel like I'm screwed. Please help.
- Roisin.
You don't need MTP for usb debugging, if you previously enabled it.
Use step 5 from here to delete the gesture.key from your device.
If you have TWRP installed you could also use it's file manager to delete the keys.
Thanks for the quick reply
Does it need to be rooted for this? I never actually managed it. Also, I don't think I have ADB on my computer, how do I do this?
@WizardyNinja Get [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot [10-22-16].
Don't know if the 'adb shell rm .....' needs root.
How where you trying to root with out the above tools?
Once you have fastboot, use it to boot TWRP: -
Code:
fastboot boot <nameofTWRP.img>
And then use it's file manager to delete the file, if the 'adb shell rm.....' does not work.
I don't know actually, I saw ADB mentioned around a few times but it was really just a "download these few things and it should work" kind of thing. I've rooted devices before but Xiaomi devices are so much more awkward, it really confused me. By the end I didn't know what I was doing. :/
I'll try this out tomorrow and I'll update you on if it worked or not. Thank you.
If you can enter recovery then go to /data/system and delete all the *.key files.
Sent from Note 3, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
I can't get into recovery, that's the problem :crying:
I haven't tried the other thing yet, still in school
Okay, so I managed to fastboot TWRP because the other thing didn't work, but now TWRP itself is asking for a password to decrypt data? As far as I'm aware, I never encrypted my data purposefully on my phone.
(Couldn't get a clear picture, but the buttons say "cancel" and "select language". On the top, it says "Mount" with "Decrypt Data" under it).
@WizardyNinja
Just select cancel, in your screenshot.
Then format your data partition (unfortunately losing data and apps).
Then reboot and you should have access to your device, plus have to set it up again.
Would a factory reset be fine, or would it have to be an advanced wipe?
Nevermind, I wiped it. Thank you!
Do you think you could tell/link me a way of rooting this phone? It's so confusing and I haven't found any instructions that I can follow clearly. :/

Now that you have cleared your locking problem, search for SuperSU and flash it on TWRP.. Voila, you are rooted.

Hi, so i recently installed pixel experience on my poco f1, everything was good and i had pixel on my phone, but i got an ota update that made the phone charging slowly so i decided to flash my old rom which was working fine. But i forgot to delete my passwords and i didnt flash disable_forceEncryption bc i thought that i didnt have to flash it because my phone was already encrypted with pe.
The problem comes when i flash again my rom to get downgrade, when it boots appeared that i had to put a password to get into the phone, i tried to put my old one but it said that was incorrect. So i saw that i had to format data in my recovery to avoid that, so thats why i tried to did, but when i try to get into twrp, appeared that i need a password too .
I tried as before my old password, also tried with default_password and with password, nothing worked. If i remember well in the log said that it was unable to decrypt with default password, i didnt have my usb debugging enabled bc i had a new rom which i couldn get into as i said before, so for me my phone was basically dead bc the only way to revive him in that status is with edl mode.
But suddennly dont know how in one of reboots, my phone gets into the recovery without password, i read the log and it said that it was able to decrypt with the old password wtf... Anyone knows why this happened? i mean why i could get into the recovery if it was asking for a password and then suddenly he could skip that password when before it couldnt??
P.S: thanks for your attention and sorry for my english :/
