I've just been doing some reading/research regarding the bootloader. I found this page on Sony website: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
I followed these instructions:
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your device by checking the service menu. In your device, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu. If you have a tablet, click here to learn how access the service menu.
In your device, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

Mine says it cannot be unlocked. Why is this? Will it ever be able to unlock it?

These instructions are for the Xperia Z1, but they should also work on the Z2.
Is it a phone from a carrier, or direct from Sony?
Does it have a sim lock?

you can find the sim lock status in service menu too, click service info, then sim lock....... you'll see a screen like the one attached, if there is an x inside the [] then that lock is active. by the way, mine is sim free with unlockable bootloader, purchased from phones4u on vodafone contract..... i have been told by vodafone customer services a couple years that they dont put network locks on there phones anymore

yep i got same problem. locked bootloader and sim locked athough you can get it unlocked on ebay or amazon thats not a big deal the problem is bootloader locked. i hope anyone can help me wo get root without unlocking bootloader like Z1
Does unlocking the bootloader this official sony way still erases DRM keys? My Z2 is lock-free, but I don't wanna lose the TA partition, even though I'm dying to root it.

Apparently it still does, yes. Although it remains unclear if you loose additional functionality as well. Look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702001

I have used SEtool before i unlocked my bootloader of my x8.
can i not do it same way as i did with the x8?
No, s1tool and touch point will unlock it but not fastboot so is pointless, either pay someone as above or wait for omnius next promotion

ah, thks a lot, ill be able to unlock my bootloader, +1 thanks
Ok dumb question, i unlocked the network sim lock on my neo by the test point method cos i hardlocked the sim by entering the pass wrong too many times.
did this unlock the bootloader?
Or to put it another way, to unlock a hardlocked phone you unlock the bootloader using the testpoint method?
sorry if this sounds stupid, ive been been trying to search for some way of testing to see if the bootloader is unlocked by this method but carn't find any
Aye thx for the reply, i know the process of unlocking the bootloader with the various methods,
As i understand it, unlocking the bootloader also unloacks the sim lock?
....so i was was wondering the way i unlocked the simlock on the phone with some software and using the testpoint was actually unlocking the bootloader with the side effect of unlocking the sim too?
I didn't ask how to unlock the bootloader!
What software?
The answer is most likely you have, especially if you used testpount.

Also when you sim unlock via bootloader replacement(xunlock, omnius or setool), that text changes, you can guarantee it was no before you unlocked, but s1tool or just trying a fastboot command is more reliable

I'm a noob in unlocking. I rooted my as soon as I got my phone but was hesitant about BL unlocking. I tried it today but it doesn't unlock, and also it didn't brick luckily. Here's the s1tool screensnap attached.
I installed the drivers, opened s1tool and did everything as mentioned in Noobs guide.

I did the same, network sim unlock via test point. But, PCC has not worked since. It knows I've done something. SUS works sometimes. I have tried using flashtool, relock ftf and adb sony relock and none of this changed anything. Can I unpatch or correct the patch and unlock officially? I'd really like to do that.
Thanks for any info I don't know much about test point.

Hey guys
I'm a complete n00b to the Android scene, so I'll try and be as detailed as possible.
I received my Xperia S exchanged from Sony a couple of days back. I've been running Stability Test for about 54 hours straight (yep, not a typo). The battery temp. has constantly been between 42 C - 44 C after the first couple of hours.
I have an iPhone 4S (love both Android and Apple ), so I could afford to let the test go on for as long as I wanted to. I'm really happy to report that there's no yellow tinting issue anymore. Sony reps gave me a call and said my phone belonged to a new batch of phones they received (I had to wait almost a month), and this problem seems to have been rectified, atleast for me.
Then I called Orange and asked them for an unlock code again, since this phone was both network and bootloader locked. They dilly-dallied for about 30-45 mins till I got to speak to the supervisor (I'm no longer with Orange, probably the reason I was give the run around). He told me I'd be getting the unlock code within 24-48 hours, which I did.
After entering the unlock code, the phone is now both network unlocked and bootloader unlockable. I never expected the latter
Have taken both before and after pics. I've also run AnTuTu and Quadrant and got a score of 6746 and 3160 respectively. This is on stock unrooted UK Orange branded .73 rom.
Now to change over to a rooted/stock rom and debrand. Either the NO or CE1 I guess.
Hope this helps someone
Thanks.

Does this just work on orange. Has anyone else had success getting bootloader to say yes from network unlocking phone. Gonna try mine today.
I just got my network unlock code also. I was asked to put a SIM card in from another network to bring up the menu requesting the code. After entering it my phone iz unlocked but he bootloader is still unlockable. Are there different ways to enter this pin number ? Do different numbers do different things? Is this based on localisation at all? I changed from O2 Irl to Central Europe generic.

I can't comment about any other network. I've only had experience with Orange. They asked me to put in a different sim card and enter the unlock code, which I did.
Seems to be the only thing Orange are any good at lol
My phone comes from Orange in Spain, unfortunately Sim unlocking it did not change the permission to unlock the bootloader, so I'm stuck with an unrooted machine. Frustrating

No, i'm joking. You can't do it. There is a chance that it will be possible in the future, but at the moment it cannot be done.
Hi all developers and members!
I have a question ... I have Xperia P and I have locked bootloader of orange but I took the sim-lock the bootloader but despite this I still have the "unlock alloved no".
So i call to Orange Poland on this issue and they told me that if I remove the sim-lock is a status change to "unlock alloved yes".
I also wrote a developer from sony and wrote to me that sometimes the status freezes or dies and even though I already unlocked.
What do you think about this? try to unlock?
Thank you and best regards
If you could remove the simlock(once your contract ends or before from some local shop) and then if it changes to yes then you could try to unlock. Though in some cases fastboot is disabled in device and doesn't gets enabled even after simlocking and unlocking. But you could give it a shot
Cheers,
AJ
Try to unlock, you have nothing to lose, in the worst case ur smartphone will reboot, nothing risky I am also curiuos, if it works then lets simunlock (I'm also in Orange Poland)
Sorry for my bad English but can he put it ...
Lock sim-lock I have removed the code from Sony Poland
And here the problem is that it is still unlock alloved: no
So as I mentioned I contacted Orange Poland and they told me the same thing that should be changed to: yes
I tried to upload a clean soft but despite this it is still the same.
They told me that sometimes this status is killed or crashes and is already unlocked bootloader possibility
Also I would like to hear some more "effective counsel"
I can unlock but I know that I can lose by a phone
Blabla - dont pay attention

I repead: i have sim unlock via code from Sony PL,
I called sony Poland, the said there isn't and won't be possibility to unlock such devices, the redirected me to their partner who is working for them as a technical service, they have said there is a possibility (didn't desribed how) , they also haven't said about the payments, but I doubt it would be free (or cheap)
Again, write me stupid ... never told me you called quite different from what you write. ,,
FAST BOOT is a lock which only assumes the orange kind of thing.
* Bootloader unlock even though I have Status: not only to do that I need to have "unlocked fast boot" on orange admitted to me "dude" that you can unlock your phone by sending them and the cost will be about 50/60 zł.
Of course directed me here on this forum but apparently in the wrong section I wrote quickly and so does not know anything here :fingers-crossed:

I am not a liar so hold your tongue, I only told what I had known... With this post I finish this nonsense discussion. Many people unlocked their devices with network code, what didn't in process made a possibility to unlock bootloader...
So send your device wherever you want to...

Nope. you can switch between U and U1 firmware but nothing really changes but if you try to flash other model firmware you either get an error or possibly brick the device. Samsung made sure the north American models wouldn't be able to be unlocked to be able to unlock the bootloader ever.

Does this mean that if I have activated my U1 in North America using a US Sim Card I still can not use a SIM card from another country while traveling? Or does the restriction go away once I activated it?

I'm pretty sure you can just swap your SIM if you wanted (as long as your CSC is unlocked carrier like XAA)
