[Q] Galaxy S2 are using 82% of the RAM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Galaxy S2 are often using more than 80% of the RAM. That makes the phone runs very slow. When I clean it up, it will get back to the high level after a few minutes. Anyone knows why would that happen? What should I do?

Free RAM is wasted RAM. If the total resident size of the apps you have installed is slowing your device, your only option is to uninstall some of those that insist on running all the time.

As long as the phones is running well and no overheating, then should be fine.

This. Any further discussion beyond this is absolutely pointless.

You can to search app ,which take free ram in: settings/apps/runned ,and uninstall it ,if possible.

Does it pose problems on usage of other apps?
If yes, you can try greenifying the culprit apps which are always in cache or are running.

are you on jelly bean rom?

If you have rom for a long time you should to reinstall it. If its a stock rom you won't to have problems with this - just download the newest official rom and flash it by Odin.

Why do you want more free memory..free memory=wasted memory on android..It should not be a worry.
You could start by installing one those many roms that have 833 or 839mb ram, that'll do a bit.
And use TB to freeze all hose bloatware apps
I'm on #SuperNexus 4, and have 380+ free all the time.
Besides the fact that a filled ram is a benefit for the android system and the start of apps, you can even speed up your device by using two things.
1. Install the "Android Revolution HD"-Rom (XEO-JB-Release recommended to flash first and then use the v.11.0 of Android Revolution HD.
2. Flash "Perseus"-Kernel. (Works flawlessly and super-fast with the Rom above.
I am using this for a while now and I am experiencing an excellent battery-life and a super smooth UI and in-game rendering
Maybe you might consider this for you

How to completely disable s memo ?

I disabled s memo via android settings (there are two s memo apps actually in android applications-i disabled them both), but after some days s memo is still in my ram services in cached applications. The most weird part is that the amount of ram it reserves varies (from 7 to 20 mb) like it's an active application ! What has Samsung done ?? I am not rooted , everything in stock condition.
If you not rooted there is not much you can do. You already deactivated it but I think that's all you can do for now.

Thanks for the answer. I have disabled many bloatware apps and none of them activates itself again, taking ram space it should't. What is the deal with samsung and s memo ? Am i the only one ?
I just checked and S-Suggest is using 4.2 Mb in running services and S-Note has 2.2 Mb in cache on my Note 2. I still have about 750 Mb ram remaining so I haven't noticed any slow down.
May I ask how you switch off S-Voice, if you have.

S-voice is the first thing i disable. Go to settings - Applications Manager - All (third tab). You can choose which app you want to disable.
to "disable" it.. you have to be rooted. You can download applications like Titanium Backup to do the job or SystemAppRemover

I believe that disabling it from android settings is the same as freezing it with titbackup.
Titbackup sounds funny xD lol
Anyway, yes seems like it..

Same here. Disabled both instances but the process still appears, and... it's class is android.process.core. Hard-coded bloatware?
Daft question perhaps...
Have you also removed any widgets associated with it?

Chrome breaks music app n ram usage on LLA

Well guys this is weird. While using chrome, music app stops working and closes automatically. It doesn't happen with any other browser. I'm on indisn firmware 4.1 1 right now, non rooted. Anyone has any suggestions or facing same issue?
One more question, is the high ram usage fixed in uk version lla or it's the same??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using. xda app-developers app
Its the ram usage...the phone automatically closes other apps for freeing ram so that apps that uses huge resources like chrome can work..since music player works in the background.the low memory killer feature force closes the apps...i have personally experienced this problem when using facebook flipboard etc..

Any possible solution bro?
One question though, what's the point of having a powerful phobe such as s3 if it can't even run 2-3 apps at a time?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Try clearing recently used programs list...since recently used programs will be cached for quickly launching next time the user needs it.it will take up a lot of ram...also try using advanced system care from play store...this app proved useful to me and many others..if it still doesn't work..try to uninstall least used apps..since some services will run in the background and eats up ram..and still not working means..keep the post alive and we can expect someone will come up with a solution
Hope this helps..

Bump!
Well i've successfully rooted mu device and i hope there can be more ways now to make it lagfree. So can anyone please suggest any ways now? I don't wanna install any custom kernel or recovery. Just wanna tweak the stock ROM for good performance and multi-tasking.

Is there a reason you want it to use less? It has 2 GB of RAM and in my experience it never uses it all. So Android has an interesting way of managing RAM but trust it that it will purge the assets when it needs them. If you keep clearing RAM with task managers it tends to drain the battery . from his signature you can see that he is using i9300, an international version that has 1GB RAM
@OP please specify which ROM and kernel do you have

Oops my bad. I use the app which doesn't show the signature. As for RAM, 700/1024 really isn't bad. That still leaves plenty. The OS can handle purging of assets and flushing the RAM

Except the international models only have 833ram available instead of 1024 since I believe the others are reserved for the OS++
nothing need to do

Firstly, it is impossible to increase your physical RAM capacity.
Secondly, empty RAM is useless. Look it up on Google.
Lastly, you could change the OOM values by using a script like V6 Supercharger to increase the minimum free RAM, or you can change it yourself with an app like ROM Toolbox on the Play store.
That actualy is not much ram. But if you are really worried
then get Clean Master; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard&hl=en
it clears the ram and removes all unnecessary files.

I am sure it works great but it will use extra battery and really isn't necessary. The OS has its reserves and the apps will clear out RAM as its needed ...

Experiencing lag: available ram is very less

Hi All,
I got my S3 yesterday. After installing the apps I've noticed that the available ram is very less around 83mb or so.. I tried 1tap boost but the recovered memory is used again..
Is there any way to sort this issue.. I haven't had a chance to update the OS yet and am on 4.1.1 but I assume that shouldn't be an issue..
Please advice
