I installed the my Verizon app from the play store and it randomly asked for root when I wasn't even using it. Obviously I denied it because there is no reason for them to need it. Just a heads up Verizon is looking for people who are rooted. Google doesn't turn up any results that say why they need it. Just a heads up for those who update it.
After speaking with a verizon rep, they stated:
"One of the things the new tools with tell us is if a device is rooted. When doing troubleshooting and in consideration of our warranty guides, it does help us to know if the phone has been rooted. We may ask a user to Factory Reset and go back to the normal software before we can assist them with more advance troubleshooting or be able to send them a warranty replacement."
So apparently they need it to check if you have an issue and if you do and are rooted they wont help you. I don't entirely believe what they are up to, but I would advise freezing the app if your not willing to take any risks and are indeed rooted, or simply do not allow it to update.

rootcloak would be the best option, it will keep the app from seeing the device as rooted as opposed to it getting the denied response and vzw still getting their snooping done.

I'm of the similar mindset that Big Red is profiling every device on the network to see who's rooted for warranty issues, as well. Even if they do flag my device as such, I'm not really worried about it. I just don't like the idea of them being invasive like that. It's my device, I'm out of contract, and with how much I pay, you're damn right I'm going to do as I please. If they want to disallow me service, that's fine by me. They'd only be hurting themselves.

Well after is seen that I activated my H2O SIM and have been running on that for 24hrs. When my wife's phone comes later today I will terminate my service with VZW... I pay too much money for there games... time to cut my bill in half!

The only reason I still have vzw is because I live in the country. Once Magenta rolls out the 700 MHZ band tho, I'm gone.

Yes. Yes it does. If you don't want them to know you have root, yet keep the app, use xposed+root cloak.

No not exchange, there is an app in the market called "Good" for connecting to an enterprise exchange server. Larger companies have started using this to replace Blackberry devices. They make an app for aOS & iOS.

You can hide the fact that your rooted threw different apps available on the play store. Try a few to see if they will help.

I never had an issue with Good and my rooted OG Evo but I don't use it on my LTE Evo.
I am currently running Good for Enterprise on my rooted LTE with no problems. Ran it on stock rooted, Meanrom, and now Tranquility without any problems. Never gave me an error or message about being rooted. I also ran it on my Evo 3d and Evo 0G.
I think it may only check for a rooted device if your company enables the check...The company I work for says on the policy doc that you are not allowed to access the company email with Good if you are rooted and it checks during authentication. I will try those apps on the play store that hide the root status and report back if they work. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Laie! I found "Hide my root" and it hides the root binaries and temp removes superuser so I think that will work, the app has over 10k DLs and many 5 star ratings...I'm too excited been wanting to root this bad boy since I got it but couldn't because of this issue. I appreciate the idea don't know why I didn't think about that...there is an app for almost every thing these days!

Hi, so did Hide my root work? Don't want to root my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and start fresh then realize I can't access Good. I had it rooted a while back and my company definitely has that check enabled
I'd also like to know if OTA Rootkeeper or Hide My Root work for this. I have MobileIron coming down the pipe and would like a way to keep my custom ROM and remove root.

hello, have you solved your GOOD problem? I have the same thing and it is driving me crazy
I use to use good, but after they forced the update that prevents using it while rooted I gave up and found a free push email client that works.

Well with the Rezound, you need to use an unlock key from HTC's site, so they know you rooted your phone..

First of all, they probably won't check the bootloader to see if you've unlocked it. And if you really wanna be precautious, you can revert back to locked, although it is an extensive process

Honestly i really understand why unlocking the bootloader voids your warranty since you cant really break your phone being S-ON, now if you were S-OFF that is a whole other story. And honestly someone who is unlocked and/or rooted is likely to have enough experience to be able to fix almost any software related issue(not always the case though). Being unlocked and/or rooted shouldnt hold you back from sending it in for warranty. Although i have heard some people say it goes through warranty just fine being rooted and unlocked.

I know what I can do... but it has nothing to do with my device ... I just am curious if vzw has anything legit in place against modifying software on the phones. I've seen where it says you can not modify the hardware but saw nothing of software

I don't know legally what they can do, but I've had a few conversations with the local reps in my area. They don't care if you phone is rooted as most of them have rooted phones. I was in with my dad the one day back when he was getting the Tbolt, and the rep noticed that my bolt was rooted. He said honestly, he would never recommend the bolt to someone who wasn't going to root it anyway. I've been told that they are a lot more lax about rooting now than they were in the past.
At the Verizon store near me, the only person that cares is the manager. The rest of the employees don't care

As far as I know Verizon doesn't care at all if you root, (I've unlocked the bootloader, relocked and sent in many Rezounds and they never cared) and HTC just tells you they have the right to not honor your warranty when you unlock your bootloader, at their discretion, but they almost always honor it.
Another thing, unless you have the extended warranty with Verizon (I think), your Rezound's warranty is handled by HTC, Verizon is just the middle man.
Legally Verizon can't do anything as it is legal for any consumer to root and do whatever the hell they want with the software on their phones, but they can choose not to honor your warranty if they feel your modifications are the reason the phone became faulty. I have already sent back 4 Rezounds this year under the warranty and as I made of fact I am now awaiting my 5th any day. Each one was unlocked and rooted. I re-flash the RUU before sending it back and have not had an issue yet.

have you sent them back for legit problems? and what were you problems? (even if you made them up )
I think the only risk you would have is if they somehow found out you were tethering. It does day in the Verizon contact that you can't tether without using (and paying for) their service.
But I've also heard from countless people that they would never know. Unless you returned a phone with the tether app and files still in there.

Not 100% true. If you are doing a WiFi tether, where the device is acting as a hotspot they can tell because they can see more than one private IP being routed through your devices' public IP. This combined with the fact that you don't have hotspot on your account can be considered a breach of contract.
I have an Unlocked Verizon Note 2 I was wondering how do I stop VZW Demo App for re-installing itself. I keep uninstall it but re-install itself minutes later. My sister got it off craigslist, so I'm stuck with the phone. Is it possible to root it and put it on a different rom or install a stock rom to it?

Thats what I thought also, but it would have a bad esn if that were the case. Factory wipe it, and if that doesnt work, ordin back to stock.

Seeing as they still have IMEIs im pretty sure they can be blocked if they are reported. I have read in the GS3 forums where some guys had gotten the phone off ebay or craiglist and VZW woupdnt activate it dues to it being reported stolen. They didnt have a 4g sim card though and were trying to get VZW to send them one so while that still leaves it uo in the air...
Im pretty sure if you use a phone on VZW that is reported stolen then they will block it and contact you, and im pretty sure theyd be able to even tho we use sim cards in 4g phones now.
When the first iphone came out I got one, I was young and stupid, and it got stolen within a month. When i called AT&T and reported it stolen they told me that it had been activated on a different account and that they were blocking it off of their network permanently and would contact the user and ask them to return it. I dont know what ever came of it cause they were supposed to contact me if they got it back, I assume they didn't, but even they could block a phone permanently back then sooo......

you will need to root the device and remove/move 2 System Apps.

Apps to move/remove:
com.customermobile.preload.main.apk
com.customermobile.preload.apk
use the following commands
mv com.customermobile.preload.main.apk com.customermobile.preload.main.apk.bk
mv com.customermobile.preload.apk com.customermobile.preload.apk.bk
that should do it.
you can use SafeRoot for the Note 2.
then you can uninstall the VZWDemo app in Settings/Applications/All.

this is a super old thread, but the question still remains. I purchased an OLD LG Intuition, it has the VZW Demo app on it. Everytime i delete it, it redownloads itself when I connect to wifi. Anybody know how to stop it redownloading?

Hey guys and gals, I am coming over to T-Mobile from Verizon on Thursday, and most likely getting the HTC One in the process.
Maybe this is a Verizon thing, but sometimes when you accept an OTA update, it will break root, relock the bootloader and you are stuck without root if you take the update.
Do I need to worry about that on T-Mobile and the One? In other words, when I'm in the store purchasing the phone, should I try and stop them from running any updates? Or can I root regardless?

If you root on tmobile then you won't get any OTA updates, so that's a moot worry. Luckily the updates pop on here pretty quickly so you can simply sideload them.

I understand that and I totally intend to root my phone. But what if the sales rep runs the update on the phone while activating it? Will I still be able to root and s-off?

I'm happy without root. Only thing that I hate is that I can't get rid of kids mode, that water game, carrier iq, and lookout. However, because I have the premium handset protection I got the paid version for free recently which is nice.
As well as the T-Mobile apps visual voicemail (i want to use Google voice and can't) , T-Mobile tv, and the name id app that has since expired from the trial period which is stupid if you ask me. Spend $600 bucks and can't get something like that free.

You can disable Lookout and the T-Mobile apps in Settings > apps > all
Scroll down and find them one-by-one, click on the app, click "disable"

You will get notified of an update, but will not be able to apply the update if you made any changes, like removing bloatware, xposed, etc. I have frozen the updater app so I dont have to worry about this. Lets be honest, we dont want the update from Verizon anyways as it will most likely remove root.
I would also like to know if rooting changes the system status from "official" to "modified".

What does this ultimately mean? Like you can't send it in if something happens to it? I bought mine off someone so I guess I just have the stock 1 year warranty still, but would have to go through LG if something happened.

There is a loophole in the Verizon system.
If you keep insurance on your line, even when you switch devices the insurance stays.
Adding insurance if you haven't had it on a device purchased elsewhere requires waiting for an open enrollment.
I have never let insurance lapse on any of my lines so that even devices purchased from a private party are covered.
I pay full retail or Swappa so I always keep insurance, actually the TEC (Total Equipment Coverage - extended warranty, insurace, etc..)

That being said, based on what I've seen with the LGG2, if you wipe the device with the factory restore tools, they will never know it was ever rooted. I haven't tested with the LG G3, but I've seen people post that if you do a factory restore, the device will show as unrooted
I really want to root my g3, but now that I'm on the edge program, I feel more hesitant. Has anyone upgraded a rooted phone to a vzw store while under the edge plan?

I am not sure. I used IOROOT when I rooted. Here is the link to the thread that goes over returning to stock.

I just got my G3 on the Edge program by trading in a previously rooted S4. If you can root, you can return to stock pretty easily.:good:
