[Q] Different S5's, different number of notification panel buttons? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hey all... I've been trying to figure this out for almost a week to no avail so I'm hoping someone might know an answer... I have four S5's in the house now, and on three of them we have a total of 15 notification buttons across the top. However, on my wife's, she only has 10. I've confirmed we all have the same firmware, these phones appear to be identical... and I've gone through every setting I can think of but I can't seem to figure this out. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

How many do you have in each in the quick settings view like pic below. I only have ten across the top to scroll through in the notification panel. I'm on Nch firmware.

1. Pull down the notification panel, tap the icon next to the settings gear icon to expand all the buttons.
2. Tap the pencil to edit the layout.
3. Drag any of the buttons you want from Available Buttons onto the Active Buttons page and drop it IN BETWEEN any two of the existing buttons.
4. The third row should now appear with one button overflowing onto it from the second row and you can rearrange as necessary.
The problem is it's not very intuitive that you could add a row since if you drag a button and hold it over the end where you'd expect to be able to place it you can't add it, alternatively if you drop it on an existing button it just replaces it as I'm sure you've discovered.

Right on! Good finding that, I probably would never have found that one.[emoji16][emoji106]

Yes, excellent, so simple yet I missed it Thanks! And, as it turns out, you can put all 20 available buttons up there- even better!

Mine is also different than my sister in law's. For instance hers has car mode and mine doesn't. I have hands free mode. Why is that?

It's easy,
Download and install HTCustom from here:
http://shadowmite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2231&p=7890#p7890
In the "UI" tab you can select in Clock Display one of these options:
Time, Date, Both, Nothing or Battery
Select the one you like, save and soft reset.
Cheers,
Works a treat, only thing is it now hides the volume and half the signal status icons.
If i tap in the empty space it does bring up the volume slider, The icon is just invisble.
when i open a program its is still shown like above.
If i slide open then close again (refreshing the screen) it looks fine. but once back to the today screen it it goes back to like the image above.
On another tanget, the battery status bar (Lordsmiff's) at the top doesnt always work.
I have to stop and restart the app to get an accurate reading, that or view the power status in the settings tab, then go back to the today screen.
Anyone able to shed some light on either of these matters?
Cheers

[Q] How To navigate Android Applications?

I just got my CM7 up and running on my NC.
As someone who spend most of his life using PC applications, I think running an Android take some getting used-to.
My question, when you move from one menu (inside an app) to another, how do you navigate back, like the <- button on a browser.
For example, I was running the the File Manager, and with one false touch, it went into the Advanced Feature (Exclude from media scan). Now I am struck in this page, hitting the n button just terminated the app, but if I am to restart it, it went right back to the same page.
Now I am frustrated as hell
Dont you have the Back button at the notification area together with the rest of touch buttons like Home, Options etc?
Once inside the page (also happened in other app too), there is only two ways out: hitting n or press the power button until the menu showed up. And I don't see the kind of options you mentioned.
Go to Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Tablet Tweaks >
then uncheck "Disable Fullscreen".
But, when I entered the screen you mentioned, my status bar never goes away...
You should have some icons on your status bar, there..
Also under Tablet Tweaks setting, under Choose soft-buttons, make sure Menu and Back are at least checked.
Which version of CM are you running anywho? These soft buttons were added quite a while ago.
I was using the Encore 164.
When I run the Cyanogenmod Settings, it crashed with the message The application has stopped unexpectedly, please try again.
The problem just repeated.
I don't know if it will help you but this is what you're looking for.

It's in the status bar. The instructions above are to make sure the status bar is showing and that you haven't somehow removed the back button. If you still can't get CyanogenMod Settings to open you might try restarting your Nook. That's one PC trick that still applies to Android.
I rebooted the NC many times, and without CyanogenMod Settings to run, look like I am out of luck .

Use the rom manager to flash the latest nightly, the installation should take care of your issue for you.
Something else that might help:
/settings/cyanogenmod settings/tablet tweaks/choose unhide button
I have mine set for volume down.
If I ever lose the status bar, I can just hit volume down to make it show again, and get that back button available again.
Now you can make it go away when watching movies or playing games, and if you need to use it you can summon it at your whim.
Thanks to all those responded.
I have since redid my CM7 (format/clear cache, data and what not) and after that, I could see the soft <- button at the bottom of the screen and cyanogenmod settings is no longer crashed.
Again, a big THANK YOU to all of you!

Help needed, alphabetical apps and alarm question

I have a EE edge and it has no option for alphabetical apps that I can find, it is not in the usual place in the top right does anyone one know an app that can replace this or a way other than changing launcher that this can be achieved please?
Also the alarm clock is terrible as I can't seem to change how many time it allows me to snooze or for how long it will snooze for. My old note 4 would allow 10 snoozes and I could change the interval. Am I being blind or has this been removed? If its removed can someone recommend a decent alternative?
Overall love the phone just irritated by these two stupid omissions which have been standard on every android phone I have had for the last few years
Same here, awesome phone but the app draw thing is mental. Hopefully Samsung fix it. Years back the first versions of touch wiz were also lacking this option, then there was an app which did it for you. I can't remember what it was called, and I've searched and can't find anything. Anyone? I don't want to swap launcher before anyone suggests doing that.

Samsung took their Apple emulation a bit too far now. No way to alphabetize app drawer and if you go in applications you will find settings for stock apps just like with the iPhone. It's like they care more about people jumping ship from the iPhone than they do about loyal customers.
I also can't find a way to hide files in the gallery so if you have a lot of music installed it automatically puts the album art in which is very cluttered. All of these issues are not present on the note 4 running lollipop so would be very interested to hear Samsung's reasons for these annoyances.
Although individually they are all small added together the are really starting to annoy me and may make me consider my purchase which is a shame as the hardware feels amazing and the music is superb. I just hope it is a case of time to sort these things out.
I second the snooze problem and the alphabetical sort issue as well...
i had a software update...but that didn't help in sorting this issue....

Opaque on screen buttons.

So with the drawer locked (little button) it's not see through but with it unlocked but on screen you can see through. Why can't I see through on locked mode like on Google phone.

EDIT: SORRY, re-reading for like the sixth time I see I did misunderstand your question. You are only asking about ONE on screen button that is opaque vs translucent -- and the conditions WHY -- not about the entire navigation bar (which LG calls Home Touch buttons) being translucent or even visible. Anyway, hope my answer below this helps someone else!
To answer YOUR question... maybe LG feels that one button being opaque is an easy visual indicator it is locked. Then, unlocked it's translucent. Whereas Google doesn't have such styling concerns.

If I'm understanding the question correctly, and I admit I may not...
It had to do with whether you are in full screen mode or not. Sometimes called immersive mode. When NOT in that mode, you will always have the navigation buttons at the bottom. LG calls them "Home Touch buttons".
When in that mode, navigation buttons are translucent or even missing (invisible). When missing you can swipe up from the bottom to make them appear. They will then appear and be translucent. You might want immersive mode for videos or such.
There's a Settings menu to decide which apps you always want to be in immersive mode. Or you can manually do it by clicking on that very left small arrow button on the by navigation bar (unless you've rearranged the icons). I think you referred to it as "locking the drawer" which confused me.
I really only want video to be immersive. With this V30 tall screen, I don't mind visible navigation buttons at the bottom.
I found this issue because my corporte email app, called Nine, didn't have arrows at the bottom for me to go back easily. I could swipe up and force the navigation bar to appear, but other apps were not that way. Sort of irritating. So,I found the Settings menu with all my apps listed, where Nine had this "feature" enabled. I disabled it for that app.
This may not be exactly what you're asking about, and if so then I apologize.

Android PIE, Samsung Keyboard remove space to bottom of screen

Hi,
just installed the new PIE update on my Galaxy S9+
Tested the new gesture navbar and would really like to give it a try in daily usage
But what I don't understand why is there such a great gap between keyboard and bottom of the screen
If I use the Gboard Keyboard there is no gap
Is there a setting a did not find or do I need to reset my phone?
The gap is still there even after deleting all data of Samsung Keyboard
PS.
I think there a still many bugs tied to this new form of navbar....
as some apps loose there ratio-.-
they've left the gap because people are used to the keyboard being higher because of the nav bar
complaining here won't do anything, you should send the feedback to samsung via the members app
i was wondering this too, too silly.
also where is setting of frame of the app icons? i was using frameless, but couldnt find option in pie.
I think they prepare for s10, same as the way apple make on ip x and xs max
I thought it's there for the keyboard case, so the key would punch the right place. But there're no keyboard case for the S9+.
I believe they bumped it up so people would stop hitting it using gesture navigation. We are still in beta so who knows, they might move it back down.

I'm on the stable version and it's still there, so that's nice.
I think there is nothing we can do. So i started using SwiftKey after the pie update
They are already testing a version of Samsung keyboard that can adjust the bottom gap in Korea with Note 8 Pie beta and they said that they are working one for note 9 and s9.

I was about to download that, but playing with stock after messing it up, I figured out a no-software fix.
Simply resize the keyboard, and you can drag it down:
1) Click the 3 dots in upper right corner of keyboard.
2) Click on Modes.
3) Click on Keyboard Size
4) Drag lower bar down.
Enjoy!
I also made a hair wider, but that may have been from my earlier screw-up.
Edit: I have an S8. Some people have replied that this doesn't work on all phones.

Cool, that made it come down almost all the way. I used to have the apk for this on my S9+ but it doesn't work on the S10+
