Instead of starting a new thread I'll try here. I'm having problems of not receiving just sms messages from time to time. At least two friends now have text me and said they didn't get replies from me when they text me. That being cause I never got them. Anyone else have this? Any ideas? I'm not rooted or unlocked or anything yet.

Did you have an iphone before this, or have you put your sim card in an iphone? I know that there is a problem where imessage can kick in and cause problems. Also ask your friends if they have iphones and if they do, then have them go into message settings and make sure they have the toggle "use sms when imessage not available" clicked.
I have a spare iphone 4s and I put the sim from my old galaxy s3 in it and it caused a world of hurt on my texts. I had to go in and turn off imessage on the iphone even though I had removed the sim and never put it back. Hope this helps.
One of them has a iphone the other doesn't. AT&T had me turn off my imessage when I got this phone. It just started out if the blue. Pretty much just the last two days. Didn't know if it was because I don't ever delete any old messages or well anything. Lol. Very frustrating though. Lol.

I am having the same issue receiving txts from iPhone users and this happened on the m7 as well but got the m8 and then i was fine for a bit until it started again. At times it works and other times it doesn't.

For those having trouble, let me post my experience so that it may help someone. I'm a corporate client, my law firm has about twelve phones under the account. Since this is a family firm, we steal each others upgrades all the time, usually someone is breaking their phone and not due an upgrade, so they take someone else's. So when I upgraded, even though I was eligible, my uncle had nabbed my upgrade back in october. So I, in turn, grabbed my cousin's upgrade. The problem here is that I am the only android user. Somehow att screwed up our account when I upgraded and suddenly I couldn't get texts from the people in my office on iphones. Eventually our I.T. guy called att and straightened it out. I say all that to say that if you haven't modded your apn, sms app, or anything else and are having issues, it is most likely on att.
Have you gone into settings within messages and then mms settings and checked auto-retrieve and set max message size to 1000k?

I'm having same issue as OP. Will receive small blank box messages. Clicking on it opens a blank slideshow instead of a picture. Saving the attachment just saves a blank image. From the same sender, sometimes pictures go through, other times they arrive blank. This is from an android user. I didn't have this issue on my previous phone.
MMS set to auto retrieve and 1000K limit.
Having the same issue as well, ever since the M7. It mainly happens from a couple people who both use iPhones.
Hate jumping on the bandwagon, but I'm having this issue too, and mostly from iPhone users, but not all iPhone users. It's really strange. Sometimes saving the image works, other times it doesn't.
I had it too... I called HTC... They walked me through the expected steps and after a few tries, airplane mode, turned off Wi-Fi, removed and reinstalled Sim card... Restarted phone... Finally worked now... I can get the pics from my husband's iPhone now

I am having the same issue as the OP but the person sending is not an iPhone user, rather another person on a HTC m8. Only difference from me is he is on Sprint and I'm Att. I can send to him with no issues, he can't send to me unless he crops the shots. Also, he has never had an iPhone. He also can send to others with no problems. I'm the only person he knows with the M8.
Ive had this happen with people on verizon, cricket(sprint third party)....not sure why it happens, maybe when switching across networks something screws up, when an mms pic comes through like that and there is indeed a picture, you can click on the little box and will be given an option to save the picture and it will save to your downloads folder. It is only random but only happens from people on cdma carrier networks sending to me,which leads me to believe its partly a network issue as well as a phone issue possibly.
Any fix for this yet?

But... now, when my girlfriend sends me a text message with a smiley (we're both on Verizon), I get the following: Preceding msg modified, Media objects were removed. She gets a similiar message sent back to her that media objects were removed.
Anyone know how to prevent this message and allow media objects?
Thanks!

Yes, this is not a rom issue. It's a network issue with Verizon that I am looking into. It only happens when people with non smartphones (your girlfriend) send SMS messages to people with smartphones (you) that are either over 160 characters in length or have smileys (EMS). I am working with Verizon to get it fixed.
I get this message under the same situations but im with alltel...NON-smartphone to smartphone.... I have noticed that it states that message but the "smiley"s still get sent and the message is the same as what was sent but still get that message... I have just ignored.

Must be the same network issue with alltel. It's not an issue with the rom though I can assure you.
I am in no way thinking its the rom.... figured that it had to do with non smart to smartphone...Was just adding that is happens with alltel also...But I dont see a difference in was was sent and what was recieved when I get the messages...I think it has to do with the longer messages cause it seems that is the only time I get those notices...Like I said I just ignore them..they dont cause any lack of function

Well as far as Verizon goes, these phones are not EMS capable and therefore will NOT break the message up into 2 separate messages. However, for Verizon to Verizon SMS messages, Verizon's network automatically splits the message up on the network side regardless of EMS capability on the phone. The problem was that this was not happening on the network side either. My trouble ticket has been escalated like 3 times and I've finally been informed that it's a known issue with certain message centers. They installed updates to them with a bug that makes certain message centers not split them up like they're supposed to. I was told that some still work, and others don't. I was also told that the network engineers are working on fixing the broken message centers and once they're fixed they'll contact me and let me know.
As far as other carriers go, it's DEFINITELY not the rom or radio. I would put money on it that it's the same issue with the network, but can't be 100% sure because I haven't dealt directly with them.

for some reason, it only works on the sending end. i sent a 23 text message today with 1400 somethin characters that went through fine to another verizon phone, or any other phone (always worked on the xv6800). but the return text was 335 characters and only the first 160 came through with the preciding msg modified error.

Right, well that was the issue anyway. Sending out from the xv6800 always worked. Still does. It's when non smartphones send to the xv6800, the bug in the message centers will not split the message up like it should.
has anyone found a solution for this problem? I can confirm that it happens when a non-smart phone sends to a smartphone (env2 to xv6800). it must be the way that the non-smart phones encode their long texts.
anyone found a solution to this/heard back from their company? I am on Verizon.
This is an issue with Verizon Message Centers on their network. This cannot be fixed unless their engineers apply a network patch on their end. The discussion about it can end, cuz there's nothing that can be done.

They could always just revert back to a regular cell phone so they can get smilies.
I agree that receiving any messages larger than 160 characters from non-smartphones would be a great fix. I'm tired of telling people.... "hey.. your message got cut off at....XXX... can you send me the rest?"... If they don't have unlimited text... this just escalates their text usage.

Nothing can be done? Doesn't customer complaint usually warrant severity and priority of issues? I see this thread is a few months old but the problem is still there... seems like either their support and resolution process either sucks or not enough people have reported the problem to justify "engineering powah" to get the network fixed.

Nothing can be done on our end, and nothing can be done by CSR's or Tech Support. The only remedy for this problem is, like I said, a network patch from the network engineers on their message centers.

Ya I understand your points but "nothing can be done on our end" assumes having people opening their own subsequent tickets would accomplish nothing... I truly believe customer complaint has a lot to do with it especially in the formality of tickets.
I personally just called to find out more about this and the CSR was pretty quick to understand the situation and insisted opening a ticket was a good step towards resolution... He asked for specific examples of numbers and times msgs had this happen and created a ticket... I really doubt they'll just take the ticket and close it because it's a "known issue," unless it's being consolidated into a larger work order but even if that's the case I'm sure it will just emphasize the need for a fix... I don't know about verizon but typically SLA to customers is monitored and SOMETHING would come out of an additional ticket.
Still hoping for a fix here. This is retarded, the most exspensive phone they sell, and I can't get text messages that their free phones get fine?
The problem is a lack of EMS support for these phones correct? Well couldn't EMS support be added to the phone itself? I just don't get what is different about our phones as far as the NETWORK is concerned...
GC14: can you reccomend at least a place to ***** to, to get this fixed, as far as a number / e-mail / department within verizon?

if it used to work for you but doesn't anymore- maybe want to try this:

but searching and reading like a dozen other places with a pile of other wm phones on vz- the problem is wide spread- but some lucky son's of guns get it to work.
So might only be certain servers suck and if you get lucky the servers you use are ok and the right settings on wm might be all you need.
I'm not sure of what I've done but since this morning I'm receiving an empty MMS from "unknown" sender for every sms that I get. Haven't changed any of the settings prior to that starting, notifications are disabled in the stock app (am using chomp sms). Please help, it's driving me mad..

Could be the person sending to you is sending texts as a MMS. My wife used to do this with her BB and I would get 2 on my iPhone from her. Just a thought. May be the same issue.
Does it do this from everyone, or just one person?

Thanks for the reply!
No, it's from everyone, everywhere. I'm trying to back-track what I changed since last night on the phone but I haven't changed anything that could indicate causing an issue like this. The sender shows as "anonymous", when I try to dial that number it came up as 266-696-687 which isn't a valid number.
I was getting that last night and than it stopped after an hour

Getting the same, an mms before each sms?
Sorry to be a pain; the bug is very annoying.. I have now flashed everything back from 1.2.6 to 1.8.3, the bug is still there.
I used the SIM in another android phone, all works ok. Obviously something went bust on the settings of my phone.
Anyone heard of this issue or seen it?
So, issue took care of itself this morning. After spending 14hrs trying to fix it yesterday & almost throwing the damn thing out the window..
AT&T? o2 here in Germany? Some dodgy update of some sort? F**k knows..
I've already posted at VZW, but I figured you guys at XDA are probably smarter than they are anyway. Especially when tech support can only offer me scripted solutions like "pull the battery lulz!"
I just signed up for VZW with a brand new Thunderbolt and ported my number from Tmobile. Now sometimes all the sudden people I text report that the sender's number was something crazy like +120837598139485. They cant respond to it, and only once they figure out it's me do they go into their address books and start responding using my actual phone number. They can send to me just fine, and sometimes when I reply it looks like it came from the right number. But other times they get this. One of them uses Tmo and the other is another VZW customer, and they both get the same result at times.
So what gives? Anyone ever heard of sending txt messages from a totally random number like this?
I had the same thing happen to me. I bought a used Thunderbolt, and once i activated it with the new sim card people told me i was sending them texts from a 15 digit number.
It only lasted for a few hours for me, and now everything is running as normal.
Its your sim card number. A simple reboot should fix it, if not, pull the battery and it will fix it

My phone sends and receives picture mail to other sprint phones all day long. I can also send a picture to any non sprint phone. The problem is I do not receive pictures from other carriers. I called sprint and spoke to tech support for 2 hours and they still did not resolve it. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could try?
Some more info... This is also happening on my wife's evo. We recently switched to an advantage account and had our numbers ported over. The mms has never worked since we have done this! Sprint has no idea what is going on but I know there are some on here that are a lot smarter than them!
I understand that I posted the same question in the Q and a section. I never seem to get any responses when I post in there.
Are there possibly any ## codes that I could try? I am getting really desperate!
Dunno what to say, I can receive mms from my friends iPhone on AT&T.
Off topic, he hates his iPhone to death. He wants to try an Android but is stuck with AT&T to choose from. Suggestions for him?

If you got sync turned on 24/7 then believe it or not, it checks for new emails every so often and so data gets wasted! :good:
Try to turn off syncing and ONLY sync manually and that should fix your data issue
I use gmail and it doesn't appear to use much data at all. With Telus if your worried about going over you can login to your account online and check how much data you have used for the month, its front and centre when you log in. What I do if I notice I'm approaching my limit go to the addon part of your plan online and scroll to the bottom and add a data service block which will basically disable all data for your phone until you go back in and remove it. It's effective almost immediately too.
Where did you find that data usage screen??
Never mind I found it

Me too!!
I am SO SO happy someone else out there has the same problem - now I can contact HTC support whi say they never heard of it and let them know!
My phone has never had an issue until 4 days ago, when it downloaded 4.4GB over cellular and 4,9GB over wifi - all attributed to the HTC Sense Mail App. It has to be a bug!!
I have an open ticket ith HTC support, to whom I 've sent screenshots of the data usage, proving it was their mail app consuming the data (both using stock usage monitor and also Avast network monitor). Still yet to get any real feedback apart from that it's being investigated and has been elevated to management... All the while, I am responsible for the data usage on my network (UK Voda), so have asked them to disconnect my data tariff, and also alerted my braodband supplier as I've exceeded their fair usage poilcy and will get charged by them too!
*sigh*
You can prevent that by disabling the background data for the mail app. I've done that since then to prevent it of happening again.

HTC support answer
So - in my case, the response fro HTC was the following:
"Dear ,
As the android version on your device does not contain full fallback support to EAS protocol versions below 12.0 it can manifest unpredictable behaviour. This is a software compatibility issue and the recommended solution is to update your Exchange server to a current version."
So - if you're company is running Exchange server 2003, it turns out the HTC's software is not compatible. This is not advertised anywhere! As I'm sure you'll all agree, it's not a response that my company have to upgrade our exchange server to ensure this won't happen again! All my other devices were connected to the same exchange at the same time and didn't experience any problems (Transformer Prime - Stock Jellybean, iPhone 5 (crappy iOS6), Win 7 PC).
Now I'm stuck with my primary device not being able to connect to my primary email account!!!!
