[Q] My YP-G70 won't connect to wifi - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hello guys, i have a problem about connecting to wifi. I have been using the same ROM for a year, but since this morning i have a problem on connecting to the wifi, it says Obtaining ip address but it just never ends. I changed the ROM two times today, nothing has changed. I think the problem might me caused by the wifi antenna itself just because it's old (bought the device two years back), but i mostly believe in it's an inner software error, if there is a possibility about it's a software error can you help me to find out what it is and fix it?
Thank you (Device-> YP-G70)
FIGURED OUT HOPE THIS HELPS ALL OF YOU:
Use static ip on wifi settings, and as ip address i don't know if this works in all countries but enter 192.168.1. (some value between 1 and 200) as gateway enter 192.168.1.1 and as netmask you can use 255.255.255.0 this solved my problem thanks

Happened to me once...wiping data fixed it. You should try that.

I tried that way and it didn't work out but finally i figured out what happened, i had the same problem a month ago on all my computers and tablets and phones they didn't connect to my wifi so i entered other ip adresses gateways etc. that i found on a webpage and they connected, the thing is i found the ip online and when you enter it on two devices working on same network it will discconnect one of the devices, does anyone know where can i find more alternatie ips' like that? Hope that will be helpful to the friends who has obtaining ip address loop problem.

Let me see if I understand what you're trying to do. You have multiple devices, not just your YP-G70, connected to a router. The router is distributing IP's, some of which are static, some of which are DHCP. The key is to make the router assign static IP's outside the DHCP range.
For instance, if your router has a gateway 192.168.1.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, that gives you 254 addresses to choose from. Typically, the DHCP range is fifty addresses, from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149. So long as you assign your static IP's outside the range of .100 to .149, you should have no conflicts. I generally assign printers, NAS, other services lower IP's. 192.168.1.4 might be a printer. 192.168.1.6 might be a PogoPlug. Desktops/laptops with static IP's might be in a range of 192.168.1.20 to 192.168.1.40. Tablets and phones might be from .60 to .80. When friends and extended family visit and want to borrow some wifi or ethernet, they use the DHCP range -- .100 to .149.
Make sure to use the most secure method for wifi available on the router, usually WPA2 Personal (PSK) + TKIP / AES. Give your friends the random-10-digit-or-more-character password you created to keep your wifi secure, and they're in. If you have trouble getting in, delete the saved wifi connection to your router in the network connections area on the YP-G70 and recreate it. You should be in.

Did you changed your router before? I had same problem AFTER changed my router (from old router linksys 54mbps mode 11b/g, now using tp-link 300 mbps mode 11b/g/n)... i've tried several type and brand (tp-link, tenda etc.), same results. My assumption for now, YP-G70 is not compatible with router above 54mbps or mode above G.
Just my two cents.

On a lark, I set my ASUS RT-N16 router using tomato-USB firmware to N-only. I am assuredly connected via my YP-G70. Samsung bills the YP-G70 as b/g/n compatible. Perhaps the problem is with one or more specific router models?

TG01 wi fi woes

If you see this on Modaco, apols.
Hi folks, just picked one of these up for the £149 in Orange, but have a problem with wi-fi that I have had with a few WM devices over time, think its the AR6000 wlan chipset myself, seems very fussy about what and when it connects.
I would appreciate any help, but not please along the lines of "change your router", that ain't happening, it works fine with loads of other devices, so if this issue is non solveable, its the TG01 that goes!
OK, first connection to the Router (its a Billion ADSL) was fine, got connection, worked OK. From there in, as soon as it woke up, no dice, just unable to connect, always shows up in both WM and Tosh wireless util as available, just never connects.
Now, what I have noticed with this and at other times when I have had this issue with past devices is that it puts some odd stuff in the IP address field in the Configure Networks Adaptors screen.
I have it set for Use Server Assigned IP Address, but in the field below, I get this odd stuff fe80:221:e8ff:fe88 instead of 192.xxx.xxx.xxx that should be in there. I am sure this is somehow related to my connection issues, but searching the web, seems like noone else ever had this?
Kev
can u turn ur wifi off ?
and can u turn it back on ?
Yep, turns on and off no problem, even done hard reset to see if I can get that fresh connection, but no way.
That is your IP. You need to configure it with get automatic IP or put you the IP but is more complicated.
This problem have origin be tween router and mobile or pc. Some time routers didn't assign an IP address.
Some time have other origin is a key try to put the key in different form AES or TKIP nbest one TKIP.
Check to security type.

That looks like an IPv6 address as opposed to an IPv4 address, so I guess your router must be using IPv6. Does it not do this for your other devices? Maybe your router's DHCP serves up an IPv6 address because it detects that the TG01 can handle it. What happens when you try to do something meaningful on the network?
try and change your router security from wep (i assume it is due to a problem i have) and that seems to solve it,did for me neway and you are probably right about the chipset,

Is it an IP address, all my other devices show 192.168.xxx.xxx, not seen that format before.
Checked the AES/TKIP thing, and tried both to no effect.
Also tried to set a static IP, but no dice.

Hrmm, IPv6 address looks like
2001:0db8:3c4d:0015:0000:0000:abcd:ef12
Which is not really what I have, and nothing else uses it, in fact can not see any reference to IPv6 on the router.

Security is WPA2-PSK, which to be fair works on lots of other devices, and I don't really wanna mess with them
Kev
Put your configuration here and lets check if we have the same.
I have a similar issue using a Siemens Gigaset SE587 ADSL router at home with the wireless security set to WPA/WPA2 - it will happily connect me once, but subsequent attempts fail unless I reset the router. Other access points are fine. For example, there is a BTOpenZone router not far outside that I can connect to at will, with no problem. Also, the router we use at work happily embraces the TG01's desire to connect.
The SE587 has been a bit temperamental with certain other devices so I wonder if the issue is the slightly fussy router rather than the phone?
Oh well .. I'm picking up a second hand Belkin 54g router soon, so hopefully this will solve it.
Ok guys this problem how I said his origin is to not assign one IP address correctly. This problem is because of WPA2 crypt key.
Turn of your security in your router and try to connect and lets start talk then.
that address (the numbered one) looks like a mac address, if you log on to your router, set up a rule with that mac address and/or ip addres (try 192.168.0.4, its usually free unless you have more than 4 connected devices, if you have then up the 4 to a 6) and restart the connection
it may help or it may do nothing or i might be wrong

How to set Phone's Identity for WiFi?

Hi all,
I'm having a hell of a time keeping my X10 connected to my home WiFi router (a Netgear DG834). If I reset the router, the phone connects and is happy for as long as you like.
turn off the wifi, or move out of range, and it will never connect again ... unless you reset the router.
*sigh*
Been trying lots of stuff and it seems okay to connect over an open connection, but that's not satisfactory.
On further investigation, I've discovered that the Router detects the phone, but doesn't issue an IP address and I believe this is because the Phone does not transmit an identifier name, just a MAC address.
SO ... HOW DO YOU SET THE WIFI IDENTIFIER NAME?
Thanks for any help offered.
regards,
S.

DG834 the same router as i have, I have the V5 version, anyway I had exactly the same problem, will not connect to it once you turn off wifi or move out of range, just says scanning on the phone.
Anyway the Fix is to download the latest firmware for your router, make a backup first but i didn't need a backup, install the latest firmware and it should be ok, I know mine is
I've been having the same problem as you with the wifi, with the router not issuing an IP address, but didn't realise that was the problem.
Just tried resetting the router and it worked. However, when i got back to my laptop, i noticed that there had been an IP address conflict between the phone and the laptop.
Just something to throw in there...
Cheers both.
Router firmware is at the latest according to Netgear (I have the same model, just couldn't remember the version number)
I'll check the IP Address conflict, but with the router set as DHCP, along with all my assorted PCs all set to ask the router for an IP address this shouldn't happen, unless the Phone has a fixed IP address in it somewhere.
Hmm.
Weirdly I turned the wifi on this evening on the phone and it connected immediately and had no problems. Will have to keep watching and checking I reckon - there's not a consistent fault here...
Just plugged my headset into my X10 and bang its lost the Netgear 834, there is defo something wrong with X10's and the most popular router in the world lol
I am going to try and see if it loses my [email protected] fast 24 router provided by Sky Broadband, will let you know if it's Netgear specific.
Must be a Netgear thing, my sagem works flawlessly, I install 834s all day in work, we have approx 150 of them out there with customers, I cannot belive this phone is not fully tested with it Can someone try adding the MAC address to the list of permitted devices and see if it holds connection then?

Galaxy S2 is able to connect to wi-fi router but can't access Internet ??

hi,
I've linksys wi-fi router model WRT54GH in my home & it has a good amount of signal strength to cover entire area.
My recently bought galaxy S2 is able to identify linksys wi-fi access point & connects too with the IP assigned to it, also at wi-fi settings connected being displayed.
Now when I try to access Internet (any url google/FB), it doesn't connect at all.
I tried almost everything about router configuration, restart etc. but with no success
can someone plz help on this ?

In my case the problem was with frozen "WiFi sharing" in combination with juicy defenders "Location" fearure. It seems such combination is dangerous. Solutin (in my case):
1. defroze
2. remove all wifi networks
3. reboot (for "clean" frozing)
4. make WiFi sharing frozen
5. reboot again just for fun
Try to check your router's MAC address restrictions. In my router, as security, I have to add MAC addresses of each device to share internet. They take IP's, connects etc. but does not have accesses to internet
as above, check that there is no MAC filtering set up.
one other thing it may be is the security settings, if you have a WEP Key to access the router it may need the Hex conversion of your key depending on what level of security you have (64bit or 128bit for example)

Try setting up a static IP address for your phone, I presume your network is a 192.168.1.0, go into router settings and LAN setup, give your phone the address in a static DHCP assignment of 192.168.1.5, or any other address in the same subnet your in. Some SGSII's have problems with dynamic DHCP for some reason, some NS had the same problem too,

I have a similar problem and I fix mine temporarily by turning my wifi off, then in wifi settings > advanced, I change wifi sleep policy from 'never' to 'only when the screen is off'. However I have to do this every time I want to use wifi so it can become quite annoying sometimes.
So I can get through however only for a short period of time as it seems as long my Galaxy S2 keeps turning off my wifi even though it's on :/
I had exactly the same issue on Linksys E4200 with my laptop, could connect to network, even to router's attached storage, but not to internet. Restart helped
On SGS2, I couldn't connect to the router at all at first, but fixed this by switching from WPA2/WPA mixed mode access protocol to WPA2 private. But I guess this is not exactly your issue.

Yes, you are right this is not an issue for me.
In fact my SG2 being assigned with an IP address from 192.168.1.xx subnet.
Also at a same time my laptop connected with an IP from same subnet able to ping SG2.

My SG2 being assigned with an IP address from 192.168.1.xx subnet.
So I think IP addressing may not be an issue.
Also another thing I tried was, at a same time my laptop connected with an IP from same subnet able to ping SG2.
So wi-fi router may not be an issue here, whats say ???
Even I am facing the same issue at my office network. I am able to connect to the wireless network but if I try to access any app I cannot browse. This is really frustrating looks like some issue with the modem drivers.
I was able to browse on another wifi created virtually by mobile tethering. This looks like a major bug with the current firmware. Another interesting thing to note is that the Wifi network has a hidden SSID and uses WPA2 auth scheme.
I have seen a Galaxy S able to connect to the same n/w without any issues.
Has anyone figured out a solution to this one ?
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I am yet to figure out a solution for this
Even I am also agree on the probable issue with modem driver.
I've D-link modem.
Are you aware of anything about this modem that can be reconfigured to get this worked ... ?? pl let me know
The wifi router at my office is Cisco Aironet 1200 Series, anyone else facing this issue ?
I'm having the same problem at work connecting my SGS2 with v2.3.3 Official Firmware (customized for Orange service provider) to a Cisco Aironet 1130 AP. I can see that the Galaxy authenticates with the AP correctly and gets IP from the DHCP server, but it cannot send or receive any traffic, although the phone stays connected and authenticated. At home, I use an Atheros based Fonera with DD-WRT without any problem.
As I'm the company's network administrator, I will try to further investigate this problem, but it seems like some kind of incompatibility between the devices or misconfiguration ....

try turn off the wifi, turn off the mobile data and turn on the wifi again
It seems the SGS2 sometimes has problems with DNS.
Try a static IP and use 8.8.8.8 as second DNS server, which is a free Google DNS server.
This fixed MY problems
I rooted my SGS2 and voila wifi worked at my office finally I have been able to find a solution.. love my SGS2 the Beast...
I'm having this same problem..
I think I've tried all the solutions above, but one (Sorry - noob question):
Rooted?
is there a firmware patch or something that I should know about?
Anyone got any other ideas?
ETA:
I can connect to hotspots (DHCP) and at home (Have to set it to static tho)
No internet
AP works - Laptop and i8910 (had to set static and advanced settigs etc). I've rebooted it a few times, set DHCP on and off. DHCP seems to be running on the router

This is an issue with SGS2 with wifi server using authentication protocol TPIK, if you use AES as encryption then it will work without any issues.
That should be a setting in my AP? I can't see it...
If I get a new non-crappy AP is that likely to solve my problem?
ETA:
Ah - that's a WPA thing? Mine only seems to do WEP - is that right?

[Q] Wifi has connection but no internet access

I am currently on Genesis3D v6.1 ICS sense 3.6, everything is perfect except wifi. It could be turn on,it can successful search wifi, it can connect to any hot spot, and succesully get ip address, however the internet is not transmitting any data. I tried quite few different internet router (public and private ) I still cannot access internet through wifi. Any one has idea about what's going on?
Check what ip yer getting at home. I had a similar issue with wifi. Turns out it had some weird ip address. I assigned a static, rebooted and runs great...
It's most likely the router. Also, depending on Internet provider, the modem could be at fault. Comcast does something stupid where new devices connected are blocked or something. I have had other people's laptops connect to my wifi but be denied Internet access. Have to reset the modem and router or something stupid to connect the first time.

I dont think it is the router, I tried different routers, and I also tried public hotspot. all the wifi I tried does not work. however, the IP address issued to my phone is totally good.
I have the same problem with every sense 3.6 ROM, and with Sense 4.0 or 3.0 (with GB) works perfectly...
Anyone knows how to solve it, please?
I had the same problem only when using a static IP address.
Changing the subnet mask to 32 (although 32 stands for 255.255.255.255 and is obviously wrong) worked for me

S3 can connect to WIFI but no Internet

Hello everybody.
Since last saturday i'm testing a Galaxy S3.
I want to test if everything works properly before buying it.
I have some problems deling with the WIFI stuff.
I gave him a static IP (192.168.1.15), configured the gateway as the ip of my router (192.168.1.1),
the network class is 255.255.255.0 (network prefix = 24), the DNS points to the IP of the Router (192.168.1.1)
It connects without problems. form the S3 i can ping any device in my network and from other devices i can ping the S3.
I can connect to the configuration site of the router and from the page of connected devices i can see that the S3 is connected
with the correct ip and also the MAC adress is correct.
And for now everything is fine.
Problems raise up when i try to surf internet. The answer is always "Page not found"
If i open the browser and try to navigate to google] the answer is "Page not found". Same for any other site i try to connect with.
I cannot ping external adresses from the S3. Only the ones inside my LAN.
On the same LAN there are 3 laptops, 1 IPhone, 1 TV, NAS NETGEAR , home automation screen, all connected in WIFI.
All of them configured in the same way. (static ip, gateway=ip router, dns = ip router, network class 255.255.255.0),
And they all access internet without any problem.
The network is protected with WPA2/PSKey, encryption AES.
I tried to configure channel with WPA, WEP, without protection, but no changes.
The S3 connects to router but does not connect to internet,
I also tried to make it point to a public DNS 8.8.8.8. No WAY!
Works for other devices.
I tried to reset S3 to factory parameters, same thing i did for the router.
I reconfigured everything from scratch but no result.
I do not have any filtering based on IP or MAC adress on my Router.
I tried with DHCP, with reservation of IP adresses or without reservation. No change.
Other devices can access internet. S3 does not.
I have to say i'm quite desperate.
If you guys have some good ideas to solve or diagnostic the problem i would be grateful.
Cheers,
Fabio
I get that around my office as I walk around, I find that when I change AP in range my internet connection drops. I have to constantly disable/re-enable WiFi.
Even around my house, I have the handset to WiFi always on, yet when I wake up in the morning the internet connection is not working yet there is an IP. I couldn't be bothered to telnet to port 80 etc., but I hear that the Jellybean update will resolve this issue.
Same problem

Oh poor fellows ....try to add DNS manually according to your ISP...not add public DNS
Try forgetting the network and connecting again and make sure all the other devices are using different ip address
