Are you using a "Y" cable? It needs external power because it lacks pin out power.

Yes.
E970 doesn't have otg support. I've never gotten it to work although I didn't try much, from what I remember reading it seemed to involve more trouble than it was worth, if it was even possible at all

Don't worry to much about OTG support as you can find many other things for extra storage...I've seen a few articles about devices that plug into the USB/charge port and allow data transfer...

Not possible ?
Quite disappointing
Nobody has idea to do so ?
Its possible but you have to know how and where to add OTG support and I'm not sure its any different of a place for different devices. I do believe I might of seen an old ROM thru these forums that had added OTG support. I'm not 100% sure about that..I could be wrong

I picked one of these up a while back but have only tried it with flash drives, but it is supposed to work with HDD.

Still not got answer of my question.
Several users have answered your question..Houstonn created a kernel with OTG support. Is there a likelihood it works ? Probably not...no offense, and I don't mean to sound rude. If OTG support is such a desire for you to have than make a kernel...kernel dev work can be more challenging (at times) than ROM development

I have OTG USB host cable for Motorola Xomm. Is there any way this coulb be used with Atrix??
Don't take my answer as 100 percent. I want to say no dice on the usb host deal, but the hd dock and lapdock have usb ports for key/mouse. I think somebody mounted an external hdd but had problems. Hopefully somebody else can shed more light on this.
I voided my warranty.
It'll need a 5vdc power supply

Yeah there is a post on this already but the answer is that you just need a powered USB hub and that cable and you can use it as a host.

So ho come Galaxy S2 does not need powered hub??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giJXF5pIITc
I know nothing about Samsung, but my Atrix works fine as USB host. All you need is powered USB hub and cheap OTG adapter. I bought one from Dealextreme (sorry, can't post links). It works great with any USB keyboard or mouse or FAT formated memory drive.

Does anybody here know if the evo lte is compatible or is working with that kind of cable?
Some places I read that is the kernel and this phone is not compatible, but other places they are selling the cable and saying it works.
Also someone tried transfering pictures using nfc?
I can transfer youtube or website links, or contacts; but not able to transfer pictures.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I have tried this with two different host cables and it does not seem to work for me (works just fine with my xoom). It sucks that they would not include this as this is part of Android since 3.2. HTC needs to fix this.
Ok, thanks for the info, I hope htc fix this soon, is a good feature to have.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Yea you can't send picture using Nfc. Samsung tweaked s beam to do it using Wi-Fi direct and I'm fully expecting Google to assimilate that into 4.1 or whatever jellybean will be.
With usb otg it's in ics but needs to be enabled in the kernel. So hopefully when the source is dropped we can get that done. Don't know why they would do that from the beginning.
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE
Yeah I thought i saw somewhere nfc being use to transfer photos but then thats what it is. It would be nice if it was a nfc feature.
Hopefully htc makes an update to use usb on the go.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I saw that bump to send feature in the new Windows Phone 8 keynote. I'm assuming it uses NFC to initiate some WiFi connection for transferring.
If we can get USB hosting to work, that would be awesome!
Anything new on this? I sure would like to see this working on my EVO LTE...

Most basically it allows you to mount usb drives. Full functionality allows you to plug in controllers and other usb devices which the OS has drivers for. In the case of my asus transformer it allows the use of 3g dongles as well as flash drives.
Awesomesauce has OTG enabled in the kernel, but i don't know of any rom that has auto mounting baked in, i had to use a 3rd party app to mount my drives and even then it was a little clumsy and took forever to mount.

got a few flash drives to work. a few different mice. a USB hub AND.... a SNES controller i wired up for USB with the retro-USB chip.
the controller was plug and play! no hacking/drivers needed!!!
i would assume most of the Retro-USB DIY/solder type chips would work then cuz i think they are the same controller chip but just flashed different for the different types of controllers.
Hmm,
connected my usb HD , a usb flash drive, and my logitech unifying receiver --> with keyboard and mouse ...all at the same time via a powered hub ;-) ... and it works!
Great ideas! Waiting on my USB hub now. Thanks everyone.

Tried connecting it to various head units (was thinking about buying one for music), didn't work with any of them. And since the S3 doesn't support Mass Storage mode it basically can't be used at all (unless you do Aux or Blutooth, which I don't want to do).

just powered otg and will be happy?
no root, no custom rom?
thx in advance
After giving external 5V still mouse on usb not working.
For handshaking the host has to provide 100mA current. I think the L9 can't even this. Not even the LED of some mini cardreader turned on, when i attached it, and that was a 0,1A device.
But there's still some possibility that OTG would work with self-powered devices or an active hub and Chainfire's Stick Mount app or the plugin for Total Commander and such. Then you can even read from, but not write to NTFS drives, with another plugin or tool.

You have to have USB 3.0 and the correct drivers on your computer.
Here is why there will likely not be any USB 3.0 accessories that actually work..
The Note 3 is not capable of hosting 3.0. It would require more power to legitimately host a USB 3.0 device. Not only that, the hardware is just not capable nor are there any drivers for it in Android.
It can read and write at high speeds from a computer because the computer hosts the drivers and has the correct drivers. Only if it has USB 3.0.
Any accessories you see that say 3.0 (like OTG cables) are not really 3.0. Especially if they are not manufactured by Samsung.

There actually are quite a few usb 3 otg cables on ebay so even if they won't help you they do exist. I can however find one use for them and that is that a usb 3 cable just fits bettter into the note then a usb 2 cable. As you need to look for the right hole with usb 2.
Has anyone tried Zerolemon USB 3? Is it good?
