[Q] Kitkat custom room vs. 4.0.4 on Xperia mini - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello, everyone. I just bought an old Xperia mini and it is very slow (lagging so much) and I think an upgrade to Kitkat could help it faster but I am not sure about it and do not want to waste the time if it is not really worth it (newbie). So, could you help me with these answer?
1. How approximately fast (percent?) is the Kitkat custom room (carbon rom, pacman...) vs. 4.0.4 Sony xperia mini stock room?
2. How big is the custom room (typically) in comparison to the Sony stock room (My phone always notified me that there is not enough space to install apps despite the fact that I moved most of apps to SD card)
3. (Do not know it is suitable to ask) Which Kitkat custom room is the smallest size? I do not need to customize and my need is very basic.
4. Could I return to Sony stock rom (4.0.4) later if I want?
Thank you

1. it will blast you away. never thought it could be that good (Sony ics is very laggy:silly
2. ROM storage & data (app) storage are to diffrent partition a smalller rom doesent means really u will hav more space for apps, but:
a) never had space probelms with any LX build in apps (& yuo said your needs are basic)
b) u can use mount2sd or app2sd to put apps on SD to gain more space
3. if you say ur needs are basic use LX CM10.1 it has all the basic stuff & works great (better than kitkat bcuz there are many other problems due to lack of proper drivers.) mostly al other roms (PAC & carbon etc) are built on top of it or using as base.
4. yes you can flash a stock ICS ftf file via flashtool. software will be like out of the box.
give your phione some new life & try LX (or based) ROM. its the best at the moment

its just something i would advice to you. you said you have simple needs & all fw (CM -10.1, -10.2, -11) look quite same, only KK CM11 is a bit more with eyecandy. also its the stablest one (best battery & best working drivers from all LX's) at the end its your choice
CM10.1 - stablest & best working
CM 10.2 - somewhere between those two
CM11 - newest

Is It Worth It ?????

Hi all, i have neo mt15 just got ics update few days ago.
happy with it 'cos now i can download gameloft game data as wifi is not working good before.
but is it worth putting [ROM][ICS][Neo/Neo-V]Locked/Unlocked BL] JJ's HYBRID ROM v3.0
that rom on my neo instead of stock 4.0.4?
any advantages available from this not in the stock 4.0.4?
Thanks for reading people

How about you read thread of that rom, and see what it brings new to you. Then make your own choice if that is what you need from rom?
i suggest you to stick to the stock rom . it is the most stablest and is official too .
Yeah stick with the stock ROM, root and with a little tiny tweak you will have the best experiences ever ....

I don't know too much about rooting for ICS. I rooted my phone since it's GB .
Tweak some little things: root and uninstall not used apps (some app you can't do uninstall the common way), install some useful apps, go to settings and change some options for battery life and performance (disable Bravia Engine, FB inside Xperia, location services, some app's sync...), do backup and enjoy.
After some time racing for custom ROM, I ended up missing the stable GB ROM for Neo/ Neo V , but now I'm happy enough with KA 20.1 ROM.

[Q][SOLVED] Need help finding the best rom for me

Hi all,
i am new to this great forum and owner of a neo v.
i used stock gb for a while, unlocked bl, rooted it and ****ed the system heavily up because i am a bloody noob
Then i tried CM9 and 10, Spacious ISC, Ice Cream Purness and Polish Blood JB.
Except for Polish Blood, i was not very happy with the performance of the Roms, but maybe that was just because i never updated to official ICS FW and still was on BB 64 (iirc, was for sure some 60ties BB).
Polish Blood is great (and exactly what i am looking for, clean, no imo useless fancy stuff) but as it is not maintained anymore and the last version is still too buggy for my daily use it is also not suitable for me.
Then i decided to go back to Sony ICS, so i relocked BL, flashed .431 FW via Flashtool (my SI is not on the list for .487) and did a seus repair.
So now i am on official ICS from Sony and the Performance is really bad (well CM9 or 10 was not really better tho).
As there is a whole Jungle of Roms out there, i wanted to ask you guys if you can recommend me a Rom/Kernel combination.
What i need/want:
- it should be fast, that is the most important thing, i really dont care about theme engine xy, window animations from jb or designs and wallpapers i won't use anyway. Tbh i preffer it if it's stupid simple and naked (i use OpenBox as WM on my pc...)
- Hdmi and 720p recording must be working
- as mentioned above, i like it simple and clean
Oh and i have two more question...as my neo v doesn't officially supports FW .487 would it be a problem to use a rom based on that fw and must i flash this FW prior to a custom rom based on .487? (in some install instructions i read that you have to do so, in some not...)
Thank you all in advance!

Hi, i'm newbie too, but I tried many ROMs, and I can say, that stock .62 FW with some modifications is really faster than all of custom ROMs, except CyanogenMod 7, but it doesn't have some features from stock (like keyboard, HDMI and music player), so 2.3.4 .62 is the best for performance and daily use) now i'm on .587 stock fw, it is fast too, but it have more bugs in games, than gingerbread. Happy flashing

Just for the record, there is an official update for my neo v to .587, although it is not written in the sony si number forum post and i did not get a notification on my phone...i just connected my phone to pcc because i wanted to check, if there is the possibility to backup /data and it told me there is an update available (adb backup don't work on my linux or windows pc...but that's another topic if it still doesn't work with .587, i just want to backup game data and stuff before i re-unlock bootloader).
So maybe there are other users here that could get an update and don't know about it...

that's good to know, i will try out a few more isc roms and if im still not happy, i think i will have a look at CM7. The keyboard is definitely much better than the one brought with CM, but i think it shouldn't be too hard to copy the APK over (if not, there are some good swipe-keyboards in the store), same for the music player, but i liked the one shipped with CM 9 and 10 anyway.
For HDMI, i read somewhere, that it is now working for the neo in CM7 but i have to check that again.

i used Pureness for quite a while (version 11) and want to give it another try, as i was not on .587 and BB 77 as ThilinaC writes in the install instructions.
The performance was good after reboot, but it slowed down quite fast. I know he writes that i should restart my phone once a day, but i don't like this as a permanent solution. With Polish Blood i used the phone for a week, and it was almost as fast as it was after the boot. But well the one is ICS and the other JB, i know (although CM10 was not really fast compared to Polish Blood)...
If JellySandwich and Ultimate HD become laggy after some time of usage too, i will go back to GB or just restart my phone every day

I tried it for a couple of days, and i must say the multitasking build is really fast, even after a few days without reboot. The only problem is, that i can't play games like temple run because it lags as hell (even with the games build), only after fresh reboot it runs smooth for a while. But as playing games is not so important, i might stick to that rom, just want to try out a few others before.
ah ok because I do not really react with the mobile games so no idea how to play it.
sorry for my english must always write only in German and translated via google leave.

Ok found JJ's Hybrid ROM and it is just awesome! Pure AOSP feeling without the bugs that non sony-based roms have (ie bad touchscreen) but also not the problems that many sony-based roms have (slow phone, contacts, etc apps). It is not as fast as some other roms and the app drawer lags sometimes, but it is still fast enough (after a few hours of usage, just after the first boot it feels laggy for an hour or two) and the pure aosp ui is unbeatable smooth imo.
So, great rom, i can just recommend it!

For now it's gingersony v06, you just need to flash a led fix ( only bug ) but the rest is fast and stable, it just has the problem that every rom has: getting stuck in the keyboard when scrolling maximum up/down on the sym/smiles, you just need to be gentle in that part.
The most syable roms will be Zencefil and Semc Debrand when the new version is released, zencefil may have more battery time of all and semc will be the most stable with that scrolling problem fixed.
If i helped press thanks .
AW: [Q] What's the most stable rom for the X10MP?
I agree to Crazy Seed, Gingersony is the best for the moment, but if you don't want to go through the pain of unlocking the bootloader and flashing a new kernel, I would recommend SonyStyle by BPaul, or, infact, GingerDX pro.
PS: Here is a list of most ROMs for X10 mini pro, you can go through the lists there, too, if you want:

Well, that is a good question: I'm a 'wannabe' dev myself, so I made a rom based on slimroms, which is based on minicm10. I solved the problem of too little space on the data partition, but the performance is still not comparable to cm7 and the sound isn't very good. Everything is working, just a bit slower than on cm7. Do you maybe want to test the rom?

You know, the problem is the hardware of our phone: There´s to little internal space and to little RAM, so we can´t really use the, compared with cm7, heavyweight cm10 to its full extent, ask Crazy Seed if you don´t believe me, he tested the ROM for me .

I believe you, but damn, such a waste, you're missing out on a whole new experience. Anyway thanks for all the answers, I guess I'll install the CM7!
Yes it's true, cm7 is the best rom for the mini pro and cm10 is simply too much heavy for out phone, i honestly don't think there will ever be a 100% stable fast cm10 for this phone because the hardware can't take it. Kilroy's cm10 rom it's true that has more space, and it's still in constant testing for perfecting the rom, there's still a long way to go but in time there will be solutions. I don't know why so many people want JB roms instead of GB roms, i tested both and the only difference i saw was that the cm7 performance was way too much better, but it goes with the tastes and choices of people.
Ps: sorry kilroy but i have to disagree about the other roms you mentioned, sonystyle has many bugs and lags and gingerdx has a radio bug and effect rendering not automatic at boot, but xperia blaze 3 rom is good for stock kernel and has walkman player ( i just don't like the srs trumedia that they put in the rom, best to remove it ), or else you just have to go trough the pain of unlocking bootloader and stuff to get Gingersony v06 the best rom for now.
Ps: Kilroy about jb players, now that i mentioned walkman player, why don't you try that one? xD.
Minicm7. its fast, very stable and excellent for everyday use. battery life is good. i have not had any major problems with it. Its awesome!
as been said before in this post, and also my opinion, GingerSony is now the best rom around for x10mini pro

[Request] Help me improving performance of stock ics .587

I am using wt19i with stock ics rom but the kind of performance coming out the phone is really pathetic....
1. Switching on Bluetooth results in restarting the phone (posted earlier here)
2. Third class fps (frames per second) even while browsing songs a bit speedy
3. Games like virtua tennis lags a lot (forget about high end games like MC4, Real Racing 3, Gangstar Vegas)
4. Battery automaticall goes up and down (screen shot provided below is 100% geniun - swear to God)
5. Phone continuous to lag even in usage of calender, calculator, play store loading etc.
In short, it starts hurting me from unlocking the screen. I am getting tedious of using my phone.
Please guys suggest me something that results in positive. I don't want to divert from stock Ice Cream Sandwich.
So please give me solution to fight with stock ics and not to run away to custom Roms.
I have tried factory resets several times, formatted memory card (32gab) but nothing worked.

i would suggest u doing this:
1. flash a stock ftf using this guide:http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/GUIDE-How-to-Install-Jelly-Bean-ICS-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-and/td-p/154389 <-- will make ur phone like it was out of the box on purchase , now all should work IF NOT u may think about dome HW defects
2. flash serajr's clean and fixed ICS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973859 <-- this is stock ics like ur phone deserves, no mods, only a clean stock ICS with little tweaks (like ini.d support)
and then after all done u may use the supercharger script as it has a whole package (& superchargered services.jar)
- use some ini.d tweaks to clean old temp files & caches so ICS dont gets so laggy.
if u really want a fast ICS, that may also will stay fast u may try pranav pandeys xNXT rom in light version.
Ok thanks for coming up, but I am noob, wordings used in your solution are out of my knowledge coverage
Still I visited that CLEAN ICS THREAD...
So I wanted to ask you that whether the Rom provided there is custom or stock?
If it is custom then I will be out of my purview to install (I need guide at every moment of installation) and if it is stock Rom (with some modifications in it) then it will be handy for me using flashtool....
Please answer dude. Thank you very much again and a thank you in advance....

sry for late answer, also pls quote me so i see it (!)
1st its okay if u sth dont understand just ask or google once, its easier to understand in a native language.
then to clarify: (bcuz most ppl confuse this)
STOCK ROM: what u get shipped out of the box from sony.
CUSTOM ROM: its a modified rom. this can be cyanogenmod (modified nexus fw, google's repo on git); or stock sony ics fw with 1 fixed bug, even if all other is untouched, so u see custom rom isnt sth bad , ppl just dont know
but also there's also:
STOCK-BASED-ROM: means the rom u get had stock FW as base (now wit some mods) (also this is quite the same as ''custom rom'' above.)
okay so his rom (xperia clean and tweaked) is a stock-based-custom rom , it doesent mater if u can install it using flashtool or CWM, but cwm is easier i only aviced it u bcuz its the most u can get from the stock FW without doing big modifing, so its still very close to stock, just without the crap :good: but u can think about it later... but only with sonys fw in my oppinion u WONT GET A GODD XPERIENCE (gb is okay but ICS gets laggy, is buggy etc) ....
SO, WHAT'S DO NOW?? easy.
pls backup ur stuff sms, contacts, etc. and then backup sd., THEN FORMAT SD!!!
1. visit the sony site in link given above download the latest (587) fw(=firmware) for ur device.
2. follow the instructions there how to flash it using flashtool (the fw).
3. after done & booting up, like said its nw like out of the box. so if u getting some problems ITS possible HW due (bcuz software its not!!)
if u want do try the clean & tweaked rom or other just ask (or if have some question).
also for ur crazy battery, maybe its bcuz old battery thats typical for them (such behaviour), so when its old maybe u buy a new one

home fc if you open the icon of app in the homescreen.

Hello!
This rom has unbelievable performance like I've never experiencedbeforewithsola. (sorry about no space)
However, there are some issues:
# home screen crash when clicking icons (sometimes..)
# under considerable ram usage, kill everything to home screen (rebooted once)
But everything is better, including image and video quality. Music was only one channel but it might be problems w my earphones.
I got one question bout it...can/should I install Google+, Gmail?

this is previously known as Sola Ultra its in the announcement...
But sola ultra was for locked bootloaders also.
One issue:
The phone doesnt understand when I use the numpad while on a phone call...can you understand me?
Besides that, still great. Battery life is okay..im not completely sure if GPS is fully functional, but my location is working fine.
i recommend performance control rather than no frills cpu here you go if you want

i already included it in paramecia rom of mine...
but the reason i didn;t include it here is due to the kernel... many functions are limited by the kernel
Bro I need to know you have written UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS ONLY in op.
Is it possible for you to upload two different flashable files for locked and unlocked bootloaders

I installed it over LOCKED BL and its working. The problem is tht the fonebook and messaging is slow . Otherwise its a good ROM. the ics tab and grid is a bit old. New camera, walkman, album and movies should be included. A full Z1 experience will be worthy.
