I just flashed Alliance Rom Build 25. I don't have that many apps installed, but my phone says I've used over 5.7 GB of space. Is this right?
Over 5GB are in the "Miscellaneous files" section. When you click on this, it says 5.67 is used up by System memory.

I had the exact same thing happen to me except I only had 2gb free after I flashed alliance, not sure why but instead of actually formatting my data it just moved it all off to a folder that was higher than es file explorer goes by default, so I had to change my home directory in es file explorer to / and look around a bit, eventually found all my old music pictures and movies taking up vast space I couldnt normally see.

I have had the same problem for weeks and tried all the suggestions I could find on the Internet, nothing worked. Then I found a posting explaining that a possibility would be to move the default installation location to the sdcard. So I used the terminal emulator (rooted phone), to check the current setting first. It was already redirected to external memory, so I tried to change it back to internal memory (Command: "pm set-install-location 1"), which solved the problem!!!! I now can install in internal memory, using link2sd I keep the internal usage to minimal, problems solved! :good:
Hope this helps,
Peter

Thanks friend. You are great. My problem is solved.
So here it goes:
I'm using a Galaxy xCover running a android 2.3.6 stock rom, and because of the memory problems i rooted it and used link2sd, I'm running a nonbranded probably european setup phone, so here are the specs right now:
internal memory 148/165mb
sdcard 2,97/14.84GB
sdcard (linkedpart) 1.09/14.4GB
system 214/238mb
cache 1.69/25,55mb
So basiclly my problem is that the internal memory is so full i can't install any new apps.
If someone has a solution for my problem it would be nice to know...and i guess that problem is been had by a lot of people but i used the search engine on the forums and on google but i didn't find a solution. Because i already downloaded the terminal emulator...and used the su / a2sd chachesdreset stuff but it doesnt find the a2sd ... so this workaround doesnt work for me...
Cheers and thanks for the help,
Corbeaux

Did you create a second primary partition on the SD and linked the apps to there?
In link2sd, you can try more -> relink files, move stuff etc. Do all of these (except Restart / recreate mount script).
Still, some app data are internal. You can go through the (settings ->) app manager and sort by size, and delete data, clear caches... Made a big difference on my phone, since browser history, cookies and other stuff from apps were still internal and eating ~20 MB.
Also, an app like for example SDmaid can help you clean system logs, temp stuff, ... which also can save several MB.
Btw, you can uninstall unnecessary system apps with link2sd, like Samsung Apps, Social Hub, smart runner....
I have the same problem...as if the links are not working... I do believe that I've done everything right.
I'll get back if I find something out, and will be very interested to hear from others.

Update:
Having checked again, and tested by moving a few apps around, I have found that Link2SD works fine with my Samsung Galaxy Xcover.
These are the steps, I used:
Rooted the phone using the Universal Gingerbread Root kit v 25
Bought a 32GB Class 10 MicroSD card, slotted it into my Windows PC, and partitioned it using MiniTool Partition Wizard. I created one large FAT32 partition to be used for "regular data" and one ext2 partition at about 1.8GB to be used for Link2SD.
Installed Link2SD from GooglePlay and followed the available instructions.
Only problem, I have now is that sometimes Link2SD gets stuck when I move apps from the SDcard to Phone (which I believe uses the native app2sd method) and when I also when I try to create links for Apps that are installed (partly) on the SD card (using the native app2sd). I leave it for a good long time, but Link2SD just stis there saying the it is moving the app. Eventually I wait a little longer and then terminate Link2SD; it has not caused damage (yet). But I think I will set the installation defaults to install to Phone by default for the future, and then use Link2SD ...thus not using the native app2sd at all.
Next I will find out which of the Samsung-installed Apps that can also be removed or linked. Some of them are classed as "System Apps" even thought they clearly don't need to be ..e.g. YouTube...
PS: during the process above, I also installed Titanium backup and ran some backups - just to be on the safe side ...and I also at an appropriate point reset the phone to factory defaults, just to get it to a defined state before making big changes...
PS: my Samsung Galaxy Xcover is running Android 2.3.6 and the kernel version is 2.6.35.7
Regards,
Lars

Since the firmware update I have the same problem. Also with freezing system apps. After killing L2SD, it seems like it was successful though.

It worked in the previous firmware I sent a bug report. However, you should upgrade to XXLL1 (released 14.01. or sth.), much faster and it fixes the scroll bug.

in my experience a very double edged sword, cause this blew my hole system 3 or 4 days ago had to reinstall everything from scratch ... and also one titanium file got corruped so i lost this apps data completly.
But on the other hand i have been tweeking around with my phone quite a bit in the last some days and it seems it got a bit faster.
@lars: about the stuff you can savely remove:

Thank you, Corbeaux,
I upgraded a couple of weeks ago, and then had to re-root and do a little recovering, but it wasn't too bad.
It's a useful list. I'll take a closer look.

My mate has a I9100. All firmware is latest Nordic stock, it has never been rootet, never flashed with any firmware or anything.
The available internal memory of the device gets slowly filled up without reason. We don't know why, but we expect it to have something to do with charging. Every night he charges the device and every morning there's a little less internal memory available.
The other night my friend set it to charge, and when he disabled the charger, only 75 MB of internal memory remained. He has no where near that amount of apps installed to only leave such a small amount of available memory.
This has happened about four times before, and every time a factory reset is needed.
Have any of you heard about this bug before, and do any of you know how to remedy this issue?
I'm thinking about doing a full factory reset and install latest Nordic stock ROM via Odin but I'm open for suggestions.

i dont think its related to charging he must be having an app which may be increasing storage by saving logs ,some temperory file high amounts of cache memory sort of etc,or loads of apps installed may increase app data + cache to a huge extent for example whatsapp is only about 13 MB but after using it for some months it is now 50MB!...BY THE WAY how much memory is eateN?factory reset and reflashing may help ...does his phone have virus?
I have the same problem!
I've already made factory reset, and also deleted some useless files in the "log" (about 500 files of 50kb each)... but the problem remains. I checked in my computer and in the internal memory of my phone there's 0kb available!! How and why is this happening? There's always a message that says "Full internal memory".
I've searched in this forum if there's something similar to a factory reset for root users that let the internal memory as the default usage... I mean, there are a lot of internal folders of apps that were already deleted last year and I don't know why are they still in the internal memory...
I hope someone have some answers and I already thanks everyone for reading this!
Memory filling up on S ll
Hi,
I am not on this forum often but I found a way to regain memory and get rid of the 'Storage space running out' if this helps.
Right click on the storage space item on the taskbar and select 'App info' then when the android media app details open -force close (I ignore warning about knock on effects.
Even if you didn't get the 'storage space running out' but your internal storage is showing as just a few Mb's - open FX file explorer and make sure that - 'show hidden files' is shown.
Open Main storage and open each folder in turn. Scroll down and look for 'Nomedia' file and delete from any folder that contains it.
Do the same with Media card and sometimes in System folder as well ( although most are 'access denied' on non rooted phone)
I read that the Nomedia file is incompatible with some of the later rom updates. Restart your phone and check your internal storage - hopefully you will see that the memory is restored. But this works for me. Repeat this as necessary.
Best regards and I hope this helps.
So I understand the OS takes up a certain percentage of the device's memory but something seems ridiculous in this? I don't have many apps installed (few social networking apps and two games, Flappy Bird and Sonic 2) and I don't download documents or anything like that, so I don't know what's going on. Any idea what "miscellaneous files" would be taking this much space?? I've cleared cache by the way, just to make sure.
Did you root your phone? Are you running a custom ROM by any chance?
In my case, I have a rooted S4 running the Hyperdrive ROM, and I forgot to delete the installer after I flashed it; it takes up a whopping 2GB of space almost, and I was wondering what was using it up. I used the file browser to delete it and regained space.
I havent seen a stock phone use up that much space in misc, so maybe you've got updates or carrier bloat? More info would help, device model, build version, the like.

Yeah, sorry about that. I'm stock rooted, all the way up to date (mk2). No custom Roms (or safestrap). but I did use xposed for a bit with a lot of modules which I have since deleted. think it could he leftover files? not sure where to look exactly though. and I wouldn't think it would just be bloat because I've only recently noticed it taking that much space.

Yeah, I think it could be leftover module files. I was always told to disable modules before deleting them, otherwise they might not be completely deleted, even after reboots. Xposed, once installed, should create a small file you can flash in Safestrap that removes all modules. If you dont have that file, reinstall the framework only, reboot, and then use a file manager to see if its there. Its usually in the root of the internal storage.
You both must be new to the GS4. When it was released people kept complaining about the 9 GB of available Internal Storage.
So that 7.37 GB your'e seeing are all the miscellaneous files your phone needs to run. You can't/shouldn't delete them and everyone that owns a GS4 has them.
Regarding yo applications, you have 7.26 GB of application data on your phone. I highly doubt you have only "2" applications installed. The phone comes with at least 200 apps already installed on it :crying: Try rooting and uninstalling most of those you don't use.
And here is what my phone shows. Only 9.59 GB of TOTAL SPACE available and it only shows 5.43 MB of Misc. data cause Stock Android is way more realistic than TouchWiz. I'm running CM11 so its a bit more realistic than what the stock TouchWiz version shows but yeah I don't think anyone who owns a GS4 has ever had more than 9.5 GB of data to use. It sucks because Verizon and Samsung misled people when they said it had 16 gigs.
Good Luck :highfive:
Exactly... Never more than 9.59 g total lol it was a big deal when the s4 came out. Here's mine.. In running BeanStalk ROM
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I knew the problem of not much space being available when new, and I am not new here. After trying to uninstall xposed, remove the files, etc I was getting nowhere so I decided to do a factory reset. Turns out it was something to do with my Apps taking up a ridiculous amount of space. After resetting and installing the EXACT SAME apps, my app space is down to 0.90GB. I am still set on it being something to do with xposed modules not being removed correctly and leaving leftover files around or something along those lines (?). But got it fixed. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!
Miscellaneous file
I have a Verizon GS4 rooted with Safestrap on MK2 and hyperdrive 14 rom. My miscellaneous file is also crazy. I have 13 GB in this folder and I don't know why. PI erased everything and repartitioned safestrap, but still got this. I don't know what to do. I did the data at 3000, the cashe at 600 and left the system alone at it's default setting.

I've suggested this several times before: use the Disk Usage app from the app store to explore the internal memory to see what's consuming space. In my case, it was thumbnails for the Gallery app eating several gigs of space.
Hi, my internal storage is full. The system data uses 4GB. I just want to know if this is normal. I though that the system partition is not part of this, so 4GB seems to be quite a lot for only data. I have 2GB on system apps and 2 GB on own apps. Is there any way I can find out which system part is using so much space?
I would like to post a screenshot of the storage from the app 'DiskUsage', but I am not yet allowed to post links/images.
I am using official CM13 (nightly 20160529), TWRP recovery, stock kernel.

Clicking on what occupies space in your Storage/USB will tell you where your storage is being used up.
Don't need privileges, just upload your screenshot on Imgur and post a link with spaces and stuff like: www. imgur .com/ abcd (The person will know to remove spaces in the link)

There. Your Media takes up 2GB itself. Delete the CM downloads and move the WhatsApp images/videos if you wish.
System data could also mean CM updates, go into the updater in Settings > About and use the "Delete builds" option.
Go into Settings > Storage & USB and then take a screenshot and post it.
That app makes no sense to me, sorry.

I know media takes 2GB, but I don't think that is that much. I just deleted the CM downloads, but that didn't change much. Here is the screenshot of 'storage & USB'. It shows practically the same, but without the system data. The values also don't sum add up to 10GB.
