CM13 system data very large - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my internal storage is full. The system data uses 4GB. I just want to know if this is normal. I though that the system partition is not part of this, so 4GB seems to be quite a lot for only data. I have 2GB on system apps and 2 GB on own apps. Is there any way I can find out which system part is using so much space?
I would like to post a screenshot of the storage from the app 'DiskUsage', but I am not yet allowed to post links/images.
I am using official CM13 (nightly 20160529), TWRP recovery, stock kernel.

Clicking on what occupies space in your Storage/USB will tell you where your storage is being used up.
Don't need privileges, just upload your screenshot on Imgur and post a link with spaces and stuff like: www. imgur .com/ abcd (The person will know to remove spaces in the link)

Good suggestion. This is what 'diskusage' says that occupies the space: postimg .org/ image/ptedpajfv/

There. Your Media takes up 2GB itself. Delete the CM downloads and move the WhatsApp images/videos if you wish.
System data could also mean CM updates, go into the updater in Settings > About and use the "Delete builds" option.
Go into Settings > Storage & USB and then take a screenshot and post it.
That app makes no sense to me, sorry.

I know media takes 2GB, but I don't think that is that much. I just deleted the CM downloads, but that didn't change much. Here is the screenshot of 'storage & USB'. It shows practically the same, but without the system data. The values also don't sum add up to 10GB.

Strange Problem - System Memory filling up

Hi Guyse,
I'm having a very strange problem with my a70.
My system memory is getting fuller and fuller. Usually, I had about 60 - 70 MiB of empty storage left.
Since yesterday, I got the low memory message a few times. Uninstalled a few apps, everything was ok again.
Low memory message again.
After doing this a couple of times, I checked my system memory with
DiskUsage:
Data 299 MiB
--------------------------
Applications 89,1 MiB
System Data 187,2 MiB
Free Space 23,2 MiB
That is way too much System Data, I thought. And I was right.
I work in a retail store. Unboxed a brand-new A70, installed 2.326, looked up empty Storage - 235 MiB !
So the original Android needs only 64 MiB - that's a huge difference.
I already used Cachecleaner, bought me exactly 1.5 MiB.
Any idea how to solve this Problem?
I'd be grateful for every hint.
The only things changed in the last days before this happened:
- Updated to 2.326
(But I guess more users would report this if it was a bug)
- Finally got an prepaid Credit Card and went wild on the market.
(I have a slightly strange feeling that the downloaded apk's from the market are stored in the system memory, but can't go further in because of missing root. and knowledge. and why didn't I experience this problem sooner when downloading demos from the market ?)
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
pintness
I have the same problem with my A101IT. It says I still have 335mb left and i started downloading and installing some apps and the message said low on disk space. So I started deleting all the apps. And now it's saying I have 160mb left.... It should give back atleast 250mb space but it didn't......
I was having this problem, and tracked it down to an application 'Perfect Viewer' which was building image cache in the system memory (about 30MB). After contacting the author, he moved the cache to SD storage and the problem was resolved. You may have a similarly misbehaving application. Go to Settings->Applications->Manage applications->All and hit Menu->Sort by size. Check each application to see how much data they have stored. If you can, move it to internal storage. If you can't, and it's in the tens of MBs, contact the author - or just uninstall it and use an alternative.
Try app2sd

As I wrote, I already used CacheCleaner, didn't bring much.
My biggest application is 5 MiB on the system partition.
I still think my date\system folder is way too big. Can someone please check the size on their device? (You can do it with DiskUsage from the market; start and choose "App Storage")
Thanks
It looks like /cache folder is mounted on /data partition...
If you root your device and you clean /cache folder you probably will have back all your lost space... In this folder there are downladed apks from market app that are cached for the install but are not cleaned by the system after the installation...
Try also to delete all dex file from /data/dalvik-cache
Then reboot...
The reboot will be very slow because dex file will be recreated... but dex from old apps no more present on the device will be cleaned up .

damn, I was afraid of something like that.
Never read about this kind of behaviour before, is it a general bug in android?
Is there any possibility to fix this without rooting? I don't want to lose my warranty and temp root would not work if I understand this correct. If there would be any for 2.326.
Best regards,
Pint

Temp root would give you the possibility to clear out the cache since it's on the /data partition.
Archangel is reported to work sometimes on 2.3.26 you can always try.
It really works!! Thank you!!

Manage Apps and Storage

I wanted to ask how people manage their storage on their A101 efficiently. I have noticed that my system storage fills up as I install new apps and I have to manually move each to internal storage to keep the A101 running smoothly. Some apps cant be moved it seems.
Is there someway of getting apps to automatically install to internal storage to make life a little easier?
If you have root (Archangel is fine) you can use Move2SD Enabler. It is available on the market. Read instructions from the link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720739
as you can't move apps with widgets or system apps, as they won't work properly. It has saved me lots of space on my A70.

Thanks Darren. I haven't gone down the Root path yet. Is there an app you can use without root that will do the job?
Try App 2 SD from the market
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&feature=search_result
You can only move apps which android allows to be moved with this, but it will tell you if you can move an app when you install new ones.

Thought it was really good. Made life much easier.
However its highlighted a problem with my storage. I have posted the problem in another thread that I started a while ago here:

Perhaps you have some thoughts on it?

Strange problem with internal memory filling up without reason.

My mate has a I9100. All firmware is latest Nordic stock, it has never been rootet, never flashed with any firmware or anything.
The available internal memory of the device gets slowly filled up without reason. We don't know why, but we expect it to have something to do with charging. Every night he charges the device and every morning there's a little less internal memory available.
The other night my friend set it to charge, and when he disabled the charger, only 75 MB of internal memory remained. He has no where near that amount of apps installed to only leave such a small amount of available memory.
This has happened about four times before, and every time a factory reset is needed.
Have any of you heard about this bug before, and do any of you know how to remedy this issue?
I'm thinking about doing a full factory reset and install latest Nordic stock ROM via Odin but I'm open for suggestions.

Hvilsted

I will do that. You think that file could take up several hundred megabytes?

i dont think its related to charging he must be having an app which may be increasing storage by saving logs ,some temperory file high amounts of cache memory sort of etc,or loads of apps installed may increase app data + cache to a huge extent for example whatsapp is only about 13 MB but after using it for some months it is now 50MB!...BY THE WAY how much memory is eateN?factory reset and reflashing may help ...does his phone have virus?
I have the same problem!
I've already made factory reset, and also deleted some useless files in the "log" (about 500 files of 50kb each)... but the problem remains. I checked in my computer and in the internal memory of my phone there's 0kb available!! How and why is this happening? There's always a message that says "Full internal memory".
I've searched in this forum if there's something similar to a factory reset for root users that let the internal memory as the default usage... I mean, there are a lot of internal folders of apps that were already deleted last year and I don't know why are they still in the internal memory...
I hope someone have some answers and I already thanks everyone for reading this!
Memory filling up on S ll
Hi,
I am not on this forum often but I found a way to regain memory and get rid of the 'Storage space running out' if this helps.
Right click on the storage space item on the taskbar and select 'App info' then when the android media app details open -force close (I ignore warning about knock on effects.
Even if you didn't get the 'storage space running out' but your internal storage is showing as just a few Mb's - open FX file explorer and make sure that - 'show hidden files' is shown.
Open Main storage and open each folder in turn. Scroll down and look for 'Nomedia' file and delete from any folder that contains it.
Do the same with Media card and sometimes in System folder as well ( although most are 'access denied' on non rooted phone)
I read that the Nomedia file is incompatible with some of the later rom updates. Restart your phone and check your internal storage - hopefully you will see that the memory is restored. But this works for me. Repeat this as necessary.
Best regards and I hope this helps.

Rom Takes Up Over 5GB??

I just flashed Alliance Rom Build 25. I don't have that many apps installed, but my phone says I've used over 5.7 GB of space. Is this right?
Over 5GB are in the "Miscellaneous files" section. When you click on this, it says 5.67 is used up by System memory.

I had the exact same thing happen to me except I only had 2gb free after I flashed alliance, not sure why but instead of actually formatting my data it just moved it all off to a folder that was higher than es file explorer goes by default, so I had to change my home directory in es file explorer to / and look around a bit, eventually found all my old music pictures and movies taking up vast space I couldnt normally see.
