Somehow I managed to soft brick my AT&T HTC one...I've spent the last three days trying to fix it, but I am utterly failing. I'm at the point where I am trying to flash the factory RUU, but I have no idea which RUU.zip to use.
Basic Googling and troubleshooting has brought me to this post; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428276 but I frankly have no idea which one I should choose. I've tried a few but they've all failed. I'm really just looking for some assistance on which zip to use and I should be able to take it from there.

Yes, it's TWRP. The process of sideloading the rom works fine, but it doesn't complete after that(I'm working on getting the exact error).

I was able to get it recognized and pushed the TWRP Nandroid onto the SD card, but it doesn't want to restore it. Going to the restore tab shows no files and if I attempt to just flash it. It says "Unable to open zip file". Which makes sense as I couldn't open it locally, but I also tried another one with the same results.

Ok, I see, you have to extract the zip and place it into the TWRP backups folder. Haven't used twrp in a while, but isn't there a file manager? If possible you need to extract the zip file and place the folder in the TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNumber/. I believe that is the directory.
I'm sorry I didn't realize that before.

I really do appreciate the help thus far, thank you!
I finally got it working! There is something up with htc1guru.com which is causing it to terminate downloads after a certain period of time. That's good to hear. What file did you get to work, the RUU, or backup?

So I don't know why, but the RUU exe files just don't work for me. I've done everything but start fresh on my PC, but it's exam week in a computer modeling class and I just can't do that right now!
I've had nothing but problems since I attempted one of the 2-step processes out there for updating to the radios/kernels, so I really want to get through an RUU so I know I'm clean at my lowest levels.
I have found the PH98...zip files for the shipped version of the ROM, but thoes don't work due to my version of HBOOT (not mainver.. that never got updated).
Does anyone out there have one for the newest RUU? At this point, I think flashing that from HBOOT is the only option I have.
I have no idea how to extract it myself, so I can do that too if someone can tell me how!
Thanks for any help.

Oh yeah. Really, tried everything. It sees the phone, reads the current build, goes through the next screen or two, and then once it says "Rebooting to Bootloader" it either sits there for a couple minutes till it times out and errors or errors immediately. I cannot find any other posts of people having problems, so I'm really at a loss. Makes me worried about having more troubles once the official ICS build comes out... but I probably have a lot of time till then.
Thanks guys!
Tried this as well, and my phone is not seeing the file
Make sure you are naming the file correctly "PH98IMG. zip" the instructions provided give a different file name than want the Rezound uses.

I updated to the latest ota that verizon sent out. I didnt flash a rom, only perm rooted/unlocked...I relocked my phone tried the ruu exe many times didnt work..I done a backup of my nandroid but it took me back to the earlier firmware but still have the updated radio..So, I will relock it and place this on my sd card and try again..I was getting error 140 on the ruu exe
Here is the no-brainer fix for those that end up having Mainver issues, or maybe want to come back from an ICS ROM to GB and RUU and the normal methods don't work...
Go to www.scottsroms.com and hit the download section, look for Rezound and Stock Roms. Grab his boot image for the latest OTA.
Then download his "Cleanflash" utility and copy the boot.img file to that directory on your PC.
Run it and select option "2".
That restores the stock boot image and mainver right there. If you made a Nandroid of your system from before you went to ICS, boot into recovery and restore it. His tool will also install Amon Ra or CWM recovery, just like the boot image, download the one you want and copy that recovery.img to the cleanflash folder and run the tool.
I went from a completely hosed ICS install which would not allow RUU or Hbooting the PH98IMG.zip file... nothing worked, was contemplating replacing the phone, when I tried Scott's tool to push the stock boot image to the phone and then restored my Nandroid.
Worked 100% in under 5 minutes, the Nandroid Restore taking most of that time.
Hope this helps!
Background
I had already unlocked my phone using the HTCdev site.
I downloaded and installed clockwork recovery v5.8.1.4 using rom manager.
Issue
I can get to recovery but once there anything that I select gives me a black screen with the clockwork recovery icon in the middle. even if I have a zip file in my sdcard it won't read it.
I can't access my backups, I can't flash any image. everything was wiped. if I try to boot, I get the white screen that says HTC, and then a black screen.
If anyone could help me with this I would be very appreciative
Attempts at solving the problem
I read that there was an issue with clockwork before posting here and I tried to install Amon Ra's recovery. I tried the latest version 3.14 but when I try to fast boot it, I get the message "main version is older! Update Fail!"
Does your phone have the OTA? I'm on mainver 2.x and just flashed Amon Ra v3.14 with no problem. Fastboot doesn't usually care about mainver anyway.
You can try using the new Awesome Recovery Tool that con247n made but I think you have to flash Amon Ra in fastboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497984
What mainver are you on? Find out with this command:
fastboot getvar all
If you are coming from ICS to GB then you need to flash a GB kernel.
I just reread your post and you said everything was wiped. You can try using testdisk to get that stuff back so you can use one of your nands. Here's a post I just made about that:
feralicious said:
I made a post upthread about testdisk. It's free and should get your files back. I pm'd info to the person who posted their external was wiped and they thanked me then thanked me agian a couple days later so I assume it worked for them, which means the wipe must just delete and not reformat.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
I got all my nands and TiBUs off my external that stopped being read by phone or computer. I have gotten all my data, even that which had been deleted, off drives that every computer said needed to be initialized. Does what people charge thousands of dollars for.
You may have to pull the cards out and mount them on the pc, I can't remember if I tried to use testdisk while they were in the phone but I think I did and it didn't find them.
It will look like it's not going to work on the card but it does. After you select the drive and it comes up with the partition table list, select [None].
Then select [Analyse]
Can't recall exactly what happened next, I think it mentioned errors with the partition etc... but it listed the correct size of the card as if it were empty so I proceeded and then bam, it listed all my files. Copied them all off no problem.

I edited my post above since I didn't see the responses, there's info there about getting your nands off your external card.
So you must be on 1.x then. You can download and run the RUU for mainver 1.x, then accept the OTA and you'll be stock and updated. Then you can retry flashing Amon Ra and reroot.
You have to relock first:
fastboot oem lock
I am going to do that right now.
I tried downloading "The Root Thread: Currently Unlocked Bootloader, S-ON and Perm Root" but the links are dead.
I've been trying to download the one for my version and filefactory is too busy. I was just looking for an alternate download location and saw this one for v1.x:

Also... I know you can't use an RUU that has an older mainver than the one you have but I'm not sure about going to a newer mainver RUU. It seems that the link I just posted is working so that's the safest route, but if you can use the newer RUU then here is a working link for that, I just downloaded it myself:

Maybe if someone else reads this and knows if it's okay to use the 2.x version on your 1.x phone they can chime in. But you might want to grab it while you can in any case for future use.

That looks like it's what you need. You'd just need to rename the file before you flash it.
The ones that are not PHzips but are .exe files you just run on your computer by double clicking on them.
Cwm uses the home button to select, not power
Okay, I got an answer in the RUU thread that you can use the 2.x RUU and that will bring you up to date. So if you haven't already run the 1.x version and gotten the OTA you can just run the one from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22045045&postcount=58
You just need to relock the phone, have the phone in hboot and double click the file you download on your computer. Then you should be on hboot 2.11 I think it is and have new radios and a few other goodies.
Then you can move on to flashing Amon Ra, installing su in the developer menu of that and you'll be stock rooted with the update.
I hope that the PH98img works. I've been fighting the exact same issue all day. RUU would let me get close to then end, but then I would get a security error 155 before it flopped.
Does anyone know if the battery will still be able to charge when the phone is in this state? If not, I may not have enough battery to install the PH98IMG.

Any suggestions for "fastboot oem lock" not working? Mine just goes to "waiting for device".

Ding! Ding! You got it! Thanks!
After relocking the Rezound, the RUU still would not load.
I was able to amonra recovery.img and finally get into clockwork recovery. Since my mainver was newer than the RUU, I had to move ahead to ICS...which is looking pretty good so far.

Fyi... there are work arounds to the mainver issue in case you want to go back to a GB ROM. There's a new tool by con247 called Awesome Recovery Tool that will help with that. You can find it in the dev section.
I would like to restore my phone to stock so I can install the OTA ICS. Yes, I've searched and read all about ICS but my phone just freezes with the green X. Is there a way to remove CWM (mine is an old version anyway) and restore the phone to the stock recovery?
I read about downloading the stock GB RUU and renaming to PH85IMG.zip and I think I did that but I still have CWM.
Thanks.
EDIT: Oh, and many of the links in the FAQ are dead - like the restore to stock link.
if you ran the ruu, it wouldve overwrote cwm with the stock recovery. a little more details about your current setup would be helpful. you could always install the leak, its the same exact thing...
Use hasoons all in one tool.

Well, I think I did that. It loaded something but there was no change to CWM. Maybe I didn't run the right RUU or ran it wrong. The thread that I tried to use is no longer available. Where can I find the "right" ruu?
As for the setup, it's a rooted phone running an old version of CWM.
I don't have a PC to run the hasoons tool.

Will it also get rid of CWM? Probably should update to a new version or whatever is recommended now.

That's correct, it'll remove cwm and replace it with stock.

I think I tried that, but I used PH85IMG_Ruby_TMOUS_1.43.531.3_Radio_1.08.550L.19DC_30.66.550L.08D_release_228638_signed.zip trying to get it back to stock.
Maybe I installed wrong. I just renamed to PH85IMG.zip and booted into recovery. It acted like it did something but no change.

ruu's are not flashed in recovery, they are flashed in hboot. that might be your issue. hold volume - and power at the same time while the phone is off to boot into hboot

Okay, tried again but it doesn't recognize the download which I placed in the root of the SD. I did not rename it this time. I'm guessing it only works when called PH85IMG.zip. That's what I tried before though with no change.

Okay, sorry to be daft, but this isn't working. I just flashed PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14. 550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip in hboot by renaming it to PH85IMG.zip. It loaded something. I then rebooted the phone and I'm still on the same version as before. No change. CWM is still installed as well. I don't get it.

When it finishes loading it should have a list of the contents of the file, then ask you volume up to update or volume down not to update.

Well, that's sort of what I thought but it just goes back to the hboot menu. Nothing happens after it reads the file. There is a progress bar on the right and it progresses as if it's reading, but then just back to hboot.
Bootloader is unlocked. What I've read is that doesn't matter but so far nothing works.
Anyway, thanks for the help. Is there a way to just nuke everything and start over - I only have access to a mac or linux box.
I'm seeing reference in other threads about not getting the install option after the PH85IMG.zip file loads in hboot, but no real solution. There is reference to something called supercid but I don't know what that means.
Has anyone figured out why the PH85IMG.zip file loads in hboot but then just returns to the menu with no option to install? Thanks.
Ok to start off i unlocked, rooted, flashed cwm with hansoons tool kit everything went perfect! Was having problems flashing roms because i am s -on. I had a nandroid tho so i just restored it and everything worked fine again. Last night i flashed a rom and after flashing was sent to hboot. Now my phone is stuck either on a black screen. At first i couldnt get in recovery thru hboot but after i removed my ext sd it would let me choose to enter recovery. So i went to restore my nandroid and md5 mismatched.. Im at a loss.. I tried to get help somewhere else but havent got a reply and i need my phone for work tomorrow! If anyone can help id appreciate. Im not a noob just kinda a noob to htc and this s-on/s-off stuff.
First I would install Amon Ra recovery, then I would just flash a new ROM that does the boot.img thing by itself like Clean ROM.

What ROM did you try flashing?
If you have a computer nearby. You have CWM still installed? Make a new md5 file of the nandroid
or
reflash a rom that you do have on your phone
or
flash a kernel and hope it boots like joels
or
if all else fails. I would say download latest RUU and flash it in HBOOT. That is the last thing you would want to do.

I messed up and cleared storage through hboot when trying to revive my phone so i lost the nandroid and couple roms i had downloaded. Im thinking my only option is to flash the latest RUU in HBOOT. How can I go about doing this? If I get my phone revived i definitely wont be modifying anymore htc devices cuz ive never gone thru this before.

Well you will need to download the full RUU. http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ and place the file on your sdcard as PH98IMG.zip and when you boot into HBOOT it will ask you to update. Just press yes.

You can get your phone to install the RUU through fastboot if you have a computer with it installed
Download the RUU to your computer. With fastboot make sure it is recognizing your phone. Now here are the commands. fastboot oem rebootRUU a black screen will appear with an HTC in the middle. Next command will be fastboot flash zip rezound_AndroidPolice_4.03.605.2_PH98IMG.zip
There are also .exe ruu files. You can find them here.

True. Unless you want Global RUU. Then it's a .zip
But thanks for the links. I had no idea where some .exe files were.

Thanks graywolf but firefox is a no go also. I cant believe the luck im having with the links. I have an idea maybe someone could tell me if it would work. Since i am unable to download from my phone i was thinking of running to radioshack and buying one of those sd cards that a micro goes inside of, i could then put it in my laptop download clean rom put it on the sd card, then put the micro in my phone boot into recovery and flash away. I've heard this cleanrom flashes eveything together so you dont have to flash the boot.img seperately. Would this idea work?

That would work. But cleanrom is so outdated. Use Nils Sense 3.6 if your on the global firmware. But out of curiosity what ROM do you currently have installed? If it is a Sense rom. Install one of the kernels found. Maybe Bamf since his is setup for easy s-on guys.

Wanna earn a free hug and a huge thump up on XDA? Then solve this riddle:
I successcully downgraded the HBOOT of my friends HTC EVO 3D GSM to 1.49.0007 using the Ultimate Recovery Tool. Thing is, I had to soft-brick the system first to downgrade the HBOOT and now, after the downgrade and automated unbricking) I obviously can't gain S-OFF. Why is that? Well, his phone wad previously been repaired and got a new motherboard, thus I cannopt unlock via HTC-Dev. And since I have no working Android system to boot into, rooting via Revolutionary doesn't work either (stopped at waiting for device). What to do now? ALL (good) HINTS WILL BE REWARDED!

Have you ever used LINUX? Dude, I've googled for hours to find the STOCK RECOVERY for the phone of my friend, but it seems like this thing is hiding! Could you help me out to find it? You'll receive another thump up. Here's the setup:
* HTC EVO 3D GSM
* HBOOT 1.49.0007
* RADIO 11.25.3504.06_M
* OpenDSP v02.6.0.2226.00.0202
Are you able to find the correct stock recovery image? Flashing other recoveries results in "FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)".

Here's a list of RUU downloads. Some of them are also available as zips.
Maybe you can find your desired recovery img there.
Edit:
I do also use linux (ubuntu).
In case of none of the zips is the right one:
I remember some time ago (rather long time ago) I pulled some files out of an ruu exe.
I've been running a win xp img in virtual box for doing that.
Just run the ruu exe and look for the extracted files in tmp directory.
