Hi i was just wondering if its possible to root my tf201 4.1.1 without a pc i dont have data cable and dont plan on buying one or is it possible to overclock my cpu without tablet being rooted?
It would be nice. Since i cant get over the fact that i cant connect my prime to pc. Went thru 100 sites with guides, have a new cable, but still wont recognise it or even show it in the mannager. Tried installing drivers manualy but no luck. Tablet is unlocked, wiped and reset a million times, connected to different pc's....

The root tools require a PC I believe. You can get a data cable from ebay for a few bucks plus your prime came with a perfectly usable one that you use to charge it with
You can;t overclock it at all without first flashing a new kernel which means you would need to unlock it first. Potentially you can unlock, install a custom recovery and download a new rom/kernel and flash without a PC.
Related
I flashed a custom rom a couple of months back. That rom was android version 2.3.5.
Now when I try and connect my phone to my pc using the standard usb cable, it only charges but no connection.
I did some reading before I posted and found several methods to try out
1.Use kies, download drivers
2.Enable USB Debugging mode
3.Go to settings-wireless and network-usb utilities and connect it through there.
None of the methods mentioned above worked.
So my questions to you guys are
1. Does this problem have to do with the custom rom?
2. Can I degrade to the stock rom without the use of an USB cable?
2b Can I update to another custom rom (because the phone charges when it is connected to the pc, even though I cant see it on "my computer", it should still be considered as connected?) ?
3. Which is the best custom rom out right now (Speed and performance wise)
*Side note - I know people prefer different custom roms based on their taste, but I really want to think what you guys think about which one I should upgrade to!!! I also might want to overclock to 1.6 and root the phone in the coming week if I can solve my usb problem!
Have you tried using SwiFTP app on your phone and Filezilla on your pc, then you can transfer files wirelessly

Yes I have but it wasn't what I was looking for. My phone randomly gets usb connected and starts charging without the cable being connected???
I went to the retail store I bought it from and he said you should degrade your firmware and see if the problem goes away, if it doesnt we send it in for repair.
But how can I do that if my usb only charges when I connect to the pc?
There is a Mobile Odin apk. Perhaps you could install that then flash stock firmware with it. You would have to get the .tar onto your phone though.
Unfortunately, if I´m not wrong your trobule seems to be a hardward issue.
My cell phone began a couple of weeks ago with the same problem, and it became even rather serious. Some days ago it didn´t charged if I connected the charger when it was on. I should switch it off and then connect the charger, having done this, the cell rebooted by itsefl and then began charging.
But, just seeking and testing I bought a "charger block replacement" in ebay and replaced it by myself. It is not complex to do it on your own... today I am happyy.. cause I fixed it..
If your problem continue.. I hope you will remember my words!
Hello.
Long story short, a friend tried to guess my lock pattern too many times and now I can't unlock the phone with my google account. I am sure I know the correct name/pass, I can log in on my PC, but my phone won't accept the password anyway. I know I can hard reset the phone, but this leads to another problem - deleting all my data. Is there any way how to save my documents? I tried connecting the phone with a PC via USB but it doesn't work.
I have two galaxy SII phones so I was thinking of taking out the disc from the first one and put it in the second one and then transfer the data to my PC. But I'm not even sure if this is even possible.
Does anybody have any ideas how I could solve this?
Thank you.
is your phone rooted? if so you can connect the phone via usb storage in CWMR
if is not rooted, you can rooted via ODIN and do the above mentioned
that way u'll save your data

I rooted the phone a few months ago, but recently I upgraded to ICS(I wish I hadn't) which removed the root.
I will definitely try that tomorrow. Thank you.
Happy Holidays Everyone!!!
Phone:
Tmobile T959 aka Samsung Vibrant
It is on stock Froyo 2.2
It has the 3E recovery.
I tried on 2 computers but I can NOT connect via USB it gives me USB malfunction error. The phone does charge. I can put it into download mode vie the 3 finger trick. When you connect it does give you the option to click the green Android icon Connect to USB. So it is talking to the computer, the usb is not totally dead.
Problem:
I need to root this phone. I can not use 1 click or anything else because I think there is a problem with the USB port. I can get files onto the phone via wifi or using the external sd card.
I tried using the update.zip file BUT because I am on the 3E recovery it will say signature failed. I can not run the install.bat to get it back to 2E recovery. I can not use ODIN because the Windows will not detect the phone properly.
What workaround can I use to root this phone? How would I use terminal on the phone?
HOW WOULD YOU ROOT THE PHONE IF YOUR USB PORT WAS "broken"?
THANKS for helping!
As far as I'm aware, you can't root your phone without the USB port working as most (if not all) root methods send their commands and files through ADB. Your pretty much stuck, unless your phone is under warranty. In that case, just go to your carrier and see if they'll give you a replacement device.

It's out of warranty
I think there may be a way to do it via terminal emulator on the phone.
If this is possible, can someone please post how to do it.
anyone with a work around?
damn!
Am I stuck or does anyone have a way for me to root this phone without the using the USB connection (USB does charge, It will know when you connect to the pc for USB storage BUT windows will say not recognized. I tried it on 4 other pc's same results. I think something is wrong with the OS of the phone. I think the previous owner tried to update with Kies and it messed up the phone. The phone does boot and works.

I did all of that.
I think something is wrong with the phone's OS that is effecting the usb port.
How do I root this phone WITHOUT the USB port?
There has to be a way!
Can you determinate VID&PID of phone?
I can get into the device with airdroid and see the system files.
Which files do I need (or which apps) and where do I copy them manually to get it rooted?

Is there not a device forum where you might could get some better information? My thinking is, a lot of the people (or most of the people) who may know some workarounds can probably help, but they don't check this section very often or at all.
Even if there's not a section for that model, I'm thinking there's probably one quite similar. Also a lot of times, a big portion of the userbase of one phone, will migrate to the same model when they upgrade.
Just throwing out some ideas in case that's helpful. My only advice on the problem itself is that I would look further into the driver issue. I've helped several people with very similar issues that we finally were able to correct.
Have you tried to ADB the device just to pull the serial? With USB debugging enabled. Have you installed the SDK and tried the naked drivers? There's some things to pursue possibly so you can have more information for the person who helps you get things straightened out.
Ok, I unlocked my prime with the asus tool. I am on on stock jb, never rooted it before. Now, what do I do? How can I install a recovery like twrp or cwm without rooting? Also, I have not been able to connect my prime to a computer for months. Tried every driver out there on multiple pcs, 32 bit and 64 bit. Any way to do this without using adb on a pc?
Thanks in advance,

no way to add twrp without hooking up to your pc.
i used urkels fresh start to install twrp then flashed a custom rom because its already rooted.
if you like stock rom then just flash the rooted stock from after you have installed twrp.
Thanks,
How did you hook it up to the pc? I tried all of the drivers and guides to have it detected with no luck at all.... I am getting to the point where i'm thinking I'll sell it along w my keyboard dock for like 250. Just sad that the devs have given up on it when it comes to rooting etc. I know they are busy, but it has been almost like 4 months... Just makes me sad...

Right, Ive had my TF201 for a good while now and I successfully rooted it once before. However I lost my root at one point when doing updates without realising the possibility of that happening. Now I hadnt bothered to look in to the matter too much over the past 6 or so months but now that I started dabbling with my tablet again I've come to realise that no matter which machine I connect the prime, it wont be recognized by ADB.
I've tried with Windows 7 64 and 32 bit machines and one ubuntu (I even tried to manually route the ADB to right tracks, but no avail).
When connecting to Windows machine, only unknown device shows up in the device manager and the drivers cannot be applied to the device.
Now I'm no expert in this whole topic, otherwise I wouldnt be where I am right now but the only conclusion is that my device is bricked to some degree. Can someone help me clean up my mess? >.< -or is it even possible to begin with?
Current situation: The device is sitting at Android 4.1.1 and Firmware 10.4.2.17 and the device is asus unlocked. Since the device isnt rooted my Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and ROM Manager are completely useless because they were installed after the (possible) bricking happened.
Where should I go next?

Sounds like the cable is faulty. Borrow a new one to test or get a cheap one off eBay.

While I find that unlikely, I will try to look for a new one. But meanwhile lets assume that its not indeed the case, is there anything I could do at that point?

Why do you find that unlikely?
There are cases exactly the same as yours all over this forum where the cable can charge the prime but cannot be used to install drivers etc.

I gained root on 4.1.x via twrp and supersu, just after unlocking it. I am not shure if reinstalling 4.1.was really useful...but I did.
