So probobly you will need to unlock your bootloader to install custom rom. Not every rom require it but most of them.
1.Here you've got tutorial to unlock your bootloader

2.This could be useful for you I think http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526866

I've been using Xperia U since last year. I would appreciate if someone could guide me in easy steps how to flash and install a new ROM in my device. I am tired of the interface and phone is working slow and giving me trouble.

Before installing a custom rom you need to install recovery, if you haven't installed any recovery previously. check this link to install recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509
Here you can find the Custom Rom's for both Locked & Unlocked Boot Loader http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1450
Before trying any Rom check whether it is for Locked/Unlocked Boot Loader. Instruction for flashing that Rom will on that thread itself.

lilflix7, first of all to understand what is rooting you need to understand the basics of a Linux system, as Android is nothing but a system using the Linux kernel. "root" is like a default administrator account in Linux , which gives you hardware level access. For example giving hardware level access to applications which manage CPU Scaling for battery efficiency. By default the vendors lock out the "root" access just to protect their warranty incase you do something harmful (i.e. deleting important system files") or a malware granting itself administrative privilege to mess with your phone. But some of us have found ways to enable it incase we want better control of our phones for more customization (i.e freeing up some space by deleting unnecessary system applications) and hacking. The methods vary depending upon the make and the models and most importantly the Android Version .. As it sometimes varies between gingerbread and ICS .. With ST15i with ICS please don't consider rooting the phone directly using the scripts, you might end up with a brick.. Downgrade to a Gingerbread Kernel after which you may have a soft brick due to the kernel mismatch, but then you can run the DooMLoRD rooting tool with busybox....After this process switch back to the stock kernel and you are rooted xD .. Please note Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 and 4.0.2.A.0.69 are difficult to root on a locked boootloader. So to root gingerbread you need to flash either 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.58 and then Root.. This might sound hebrew to you as you are new to this phone, so i suggest you to read through the forums before you decide your call. As "rooting" your phone will void your warranty AND MOST IMPORTANTLY BRICK YOUR PHONE if you do something wrong.. Here is a detailed guide on how to root ST15i (talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0).. I have tried it on my week old ST15i and its rooted flawlessly now xD.. All the very best..

xperia have a got a bootloader LB or UB.. m confused where and how to start existing roms? I do not want t brick my device....
somebody please help and answer n guide me....

Search the many guides. You should find what you need with a little searching.
Thanks for reply... i went through several forums .... i have a locked bootloader with 5.0.2.. am confused with the first step...
1. Should I unlock my bootloader??
or
1. Should I flash with 4.4, then install custom recovery and then flash rooted roms??
I am not concerned of warranty, but m concerned of losing my baseband .. please suggest !!
If you don't care about warranty, unlock your bootloader, flash some kernel with recovery and flash custom ROM.
Regards

You must unlock bootloader before you install non stock Rom. Before doing this, you must have a recovery.

XT1524 - TWRP + root : thanks for help

Hi,
I bought 2 smartphones Motorola E2 (XT1524) for my childrens.
After first use, I accept update to Marshmallow.
Now, I read all the thread of this forum but I don't understand how install new ROM (Cyanogen 13 or 14).
I think I must first install TWRP, then flash other ROM.
But, how install TWRP if the phone are now under stock Marshmallow ?
Thank you very much for your help (I'm grand father and not young geek ).
And sorry for my bad english...

No problem. I understand your English and I will try and keep this simple and to the point to assist you. Here is a link for @squid2's TWRP recovery. This is the recommended recovery for our Surnias.
You will not need to downgrade to the best of my knowledge. But you will need an unlocked bootloader.
Here is the link to @squid2's TWRP recoveries.

If your bootloader is not unlocked, let me know. I will send you a link for a guide on doing that.
Edit: Here is a link for a very simple and efficient tool for, among other things, unlocking your bootloader.

Many thanks MotoJunkie, I really appreciate your help.
No, the bootloader is not unlocked. Is this always possible to unlock it after update to Marshmallow ?

Yes my friend, to the best of my knowledge, unlocking your bootloader is the same no matter which Android version you have. You should have no problems.
Once you unlock your bootloader and flash TWRP, then I can further assist you on actually rooting your Marshmallow build.
Thanks again ! (also for the link for unlock).
I look this after work and I try it this week-end.
And I come back for say if it's OK
