Google Dialer on the S5? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I read an article today from someone comparing the S5 and the NOTE 3 - it was a fairly written article that came up with the same conclusions I would have - both are awesome phones -but the s5 slightly edges out the Note 3 as the better phone.
HOWEVER< in the article the author made a commment about the S5 coming with the GOOGLE DIALER - the one on AOSP roms that you can use to typle local business names and get phone numbers.
BUT, I know that my phone doesn't do this - wish it did - so what was he talking about ? Is there a feture like this that I am not aware of in the dialer on the S5? You can see the original article here: http://m.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/review/2341690/galaxy-s5-vs-note-3-head-to-head-review

Yeah, I've submitted two threads about this (one here, one at Androidcentral) to see if anyone knew where I could get it. Of course, I had my Note earlier than most people so it was a bit premature and the threads got buried. I really want the Video maker app. It looks like iMovie.
Theres a thread about the video app on here already, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496452 Unfortunately the .apk doesn't work

That thread does not appear to link to the .apk from the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000..I'll try to email Zedomax if these forums don't come through soon..

So I am plowing through an International ROM and have found the lib file for the video editor but I can't find the APK. Anyone know if the Editor is part of the Video Player on the international? I found that APK...

Funny you say that, you think Samsung is worried about additional legal battles with the litigious Apple if they include this Movie Maker app in the US market (like the physical home button issue)?
I'd appreciate a better understanding of the rationale behind all these differences between the SGNote models.
I'd heard a rumor that this missing Movie Maker app as well as missing screen mode may not run well on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 hardware hence they were removed but the rumor remains totally uncorroborated..

I'd decided to wait at least until after MWC next week before deciding on any SGNote-upgrade..otherwise I'd try that "TrimApp.apk" & report back to the forum how well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Video Maker works on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717..
I would LOVE to adjust the display settings, the colors need to come way down. Most people love that colors POP but being oversaturated is such a turn off for me. I didnt even know you could adjust on any phone
I WANT THIS FEATURE!
It could have been an issue with the different processor/GPU in the LTE version versus the International. Maybe they could get the apps to play nice with their own internals but couldn't get them to work right with Qualcomm's?

I agree. Some colors, like the cnn.com red header seem over saturated and neon.
But I still love my Note. Setting up my old iPhone4 for my daughter as an iPod and the screen was soooo small. I felt like a toy. No way I could go back.

Downloaded, unzipped, and installed the Video Maker apk. It doesn't show up in the app tray. Must not be compatible with the OMAP processor. Too bad. I wonder if we'll ever get a version for the AT&T Note.

Disappointing, that Video maker app for the SGNote added an easy mobile way for some mediated / augmented reality post video editing with the S-Pen.. another reason to get the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 if you can live without LTE & can afford paying the unsubsidized but contractless price.
Please let us know if anyone gets it working on AT&T Galaxy Note I717 .. -Thnx

Well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 has it now, not sure if the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 will get ever get it.
When I checked out the SGNote in an AT&T store on its release date the Samsung rep was there & I asked him where screen mode & the Video Maker app were & he sadly did not know what I was talking about but I was hoping XDA could get it working from the N7000 but perhaps it's incompatible with the I717 hardware.
I told him I was going to wait at least until after MWC before deciding on my upgrade & I mentioned Samsung should also announce the Galaxy Note 10.1 there which he acknowledged but said he will not get to play with the 10.1 until he is there next week & he said he's had the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 for over a month.
I'd started a thread back in December regarding SAMOLED's unnatural colors vs IPS' more natural colors & while I of course would also like to have screen mode options like I do on my Samsung TVs , it didn't seem to bother me on the SGNote higher res screen like it does on lower res SAMOLED but I'll have to check it out again.
I'm eager to hear about MWC news & the Samsung Galaxy III & even curious about what Ubuntu will present as many Android devices could more easily become full desktop functional PCs when wanted as well.
I just tried to install the VideoEditor apk on my rooted note and the installation failed... I hope someone finds a way to install it on our Notes...
Samsung confirms its absence is due to chipset incompatabilites:

Can anyone recommend a comparable app?

What are you looking for in a rom?

I'm currently deciding to bring back my old rom series 'Super Charged Wiz' from the dead for the note 3 but I wanna hear what the community would like in a stock rom?
Thanks

I think it was in Ricks Rom a TW base but it had a theme manager of sorts with downloadable themes which was pretty nice and WiFi tether and flashlight toggles baked into the Rom not having to flash after as an add on. If I think of more I'll let ya know!
Went back to CleanROM myself even though it's no longer being updated
Loved nitro's eclipserom but ran into a couple of glitches and wanted something with more stability
what I'd like to see...

I would like to see someone integrate the older location settings features - specifically, allowing the device to do a true GPS "hardware only" feature. Right now, with 4.3 and 4.4.2 on verizon anyway, it says GPS only, but it's not - it is so tethered to Verizon wireless location services. and it's all downhill from there - besides, the claim that carriers / samsung make that there is more precision when using google / verizon etc is pure bunk... garbage. there is more margin of error in data-based location services than true-GPS 10ft of accuracy and a decent maps-on-board GPS period - a great application example is co-pilot, which allows maps on your card, and will use hardware only GPS - if toggled.
my issues with provider based services are the following -
a. provider based location services consume data
b. provider based services are subject to collection (your whereabouts) and marketing - it becomes a manipulative marketing tool.
Finally - there are applications, like power toggles and most of the nfc software that are designed to allow hardware only GPS toggling, yet the location settings in the phone don't (even if it says they are GPS only, it;s not..)
i'd like to see the older option returned.
honestly you should start with porting the s5 rom to the note 3. There's a ported s5 rom on the galaxy note 3 section. We currently have some great roms on the verizon note 3.
been super happy with what @hsbadr has been doing with Jasmine over here
his next stop is a full S5 port and has update speeds from user input faster then i have ever seen.
great dev!

I agree, that's why I think this dev should focus on a s5 port as well. we have some really great note 3 4.4.2 roms.

[Q] Galaxy S4 TouchWiz UI on Galaxy S5

Hello there!
Please, can anyone tell me if it is possible to change to look of my S5 device, to look like an S4 on KitKat?
My first Andorid phone was the Galaxy S3 because I was in love with TouchWiz. I dislike the way stock Android looks.
I was not a Samsung fan, previously I had a Samsung Omnia because I liked the design and being a Microsoft fan, I bought it, but never liked TouchWiz there... I imediately disabled it and left the default Windows Mobile look. When Microsoft went to Windows Phone 7 and so, I've cosidered going to Andorid. I don't like Apple because all icons follows the same square rounded pattern. I like the icons to be different like on Microsoft Windows, so not all icons to be in a circle or square, or other geometric form.
When I bought the S5 I was a little dissapointed because the TouchWiz was changing into bad lookings but with Lollipop... awwwww!
I dislike the new Contacts App with those small circles for pictures... Sincerelly I love my wife S4 i9506. I've decided not to upgrade her to Lollipop, to make her phone uglly like mine.
So, is there a possiblility to run a version of Lollipop or KitKat on S5 while having a look of an S4? Even if the menu and home keys will behave like they normaly do on S5.
Thank you!
Mods and cyanogen while using themes. There is not other way
Bad taste
A taste is a taste. Well, if it happens that you like Sotck Android, then, you may have a "bad taste" Come on! Every people I talked with, having a Galaxy S5, don't like the way Lollipop looks at all.

Are you more familiar or wanted to have Apple products? I dislike Lollopop becuase black used to look better on amoled displays. Other things that I'm not likeing on Lollipop are those bright colors, the white baground when opening calls, having no button delimiters on phonedialer and the most anyoing one for me... the Contacts app which have those small circled pictures. Oh... let's say being clircles, let's say ok, even if I still don't like the ideea, but they are too small on Samsung firmware. They are a little bigger on let's say LG G3s.
Anyway, no matter what you say... S4 on KitKat looks A LOT BETTER than the Lollipop UGLYNESS!
I'm on Lollipop from January but I cannot accept its stupid GUI. Well, I'm a graphic designer, I know that these days we've embraced this flat, simple ugly things that Microsoft started with Windows 8 and Google and others followed their stupidity with "Material Design"

Samsung Keyboard and browser for non-Samsung devices?

So I got this Galaxy S7 clone a month ago, and I thought whoever made this counterfeit probably forgot to replicate some of the stuff in it like the browser and keyboard, being those two were lifted off an earlier Android version. I was wondering if there are apps taken off similar clones that resemble the real deal, or if there are other applications which can be themed to look like their Touchwiz equivalents.

General [Info] Oppo Find N

Anyone has Any idea on how to link my oppo find N to an external monitor for desktop mode?
There is an integrated oppo proprietary option to replicate the phones screen to the PC (also works in big screen mode). This is called PC Connect and can be accessed via the toggles. Probably not what you were looking for but if its to use your phone on a PC, it will be ok. If you look for something like DeX.
Looking at the Fold 4, I still see our beloved Find N ways ahead. Hope we will get the AA issues solved with Android 13 but chances are small.

I have my Fold 4 on pre-order. After struggling to do anything semi functionally with the Find N since release I have had enough. I will be sad to see the size, build quality and colour (purple) of the Find N go, but I am ridiculously excited about regaining seamless functionality (along with my sanity). On top of the lack of user friendliness / simplicity aside, not having Android Auto and Google Pay has almost killed me (haha)
I am just looking forward to everything seamlessly working out of the box, not to mention what Samsung have achieved with 4 generations of folding devices. S Pen / crazy multitasking / independent cover + home screens etc.
Oppo might have Samsung up against the ropes regarding innovative design and build quality, but they have a hell of a lot to catch up on in terms of user friendliness / software / functionality (which at the end of the day I have come to realise is far more important to me)

BTW Google Pay works seamlessly on the find N.
But I get your point. At the end it's android to support big screens and multitasking. As such I guess we will see a lot of improvements with the A13 release for the Find N as well.

I see people saying it works fine, however I found that it kept on automatically removing / deleting my cards (which got pretty annoying)
Also, it completely stopped working once I installed Android 13 developer preview (which I am currently running), as the firmware isn't officially signed by Google and it thinks the device is compromised / rooted / custom ROM etc
