[Q] Boot failure Nexus 4 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!
I have a friend who has this phone, Nexus 4, which has some problems..
Out of nowhere it startet to not start. It boot up fine, gets into Android, and the first thing it does is shutting it self down. I get the message "shutting down" and there is this "loading screen" as if I had done the shutdown sequence myself.. Which I am most definitely not doing!
I thought that deleting everything and doing a foctory reset would do the trick. This turned out to delete everything, including the OS. After that happened the red light of doom started showing up. It turns out the phone was completely drawn for battery, which I fixed by putting the battery in a "professional" charger. The same charger I power up my RC batteries with. When this was done it once again booted, and I got to flash a new 4.4.2 OS onto it.
And then it starts to shut itself down again..! Every single file is deleted and reseted. I have even switched out the battery with a new one. Just too be sure..! Does anyone have a trick I could try?
Thanks in advance!

Samsung Stratosphere won't turn on, stuck in boot loop, please help!

My Samsung Stratosphere turned itself off sometime and now is rebooting to the Samsung logo, and then turning back off, and rebooting (a couple times earlier it booted to the main android menu, but turned back off immediately afterwards) and when I plugged it into the charger it acts like it's charging and then turns off and acts like it's charging and over and over again, even when the battery indicates that it's at more than half full.
Does anyone know what's happening? (no custom ROMs or anything, it's all standard btw). I took the battery out and everything and it still does the same thing when I put it back. I tried to do a factory reset, but the recovery mode screen always jumps away when I try to activate it (I press both Vol+ and Vol-, recovery mode screen comes up but goes instantly, then the phone goes into a boot loop again).
Please help, thank you!

Hi, I'd recommend sending the phone into warranty, add the phone isn't rooted, you can't do much.
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Had same problem on 3 phones. This is a connection problem within the phone. Disassembly & cleaning contacts often helps for a while, but problem comes back. Bumping the phone on the side or top, often allows it to work properly, for a short while, and so does squeezing it, in certain places. Get a new one, since the problem will re-cur.

[Q] T959 Phone doesn't load

I am pretty sure that someone has posted something similar to my problem, but I can't find anything that gives a straight up answer or seems to kind of deviation of the problem.
So I do have cyanagen mod 10 stable installed on my phone and it has been great... No problems what so ever. I'm not sure if something happened or if it was something that I had changed, but the only thing system wise that I had changed was under the ROM Tool Box, I had edited the screen settings to change the dpi of the screen. However, everything worked fine after it changed and rebooted. In fact, I loved the fact that screen was now "bigger..." Meaning that it made the icons and text smaller.
So, now the problem comes, now the phone doesn't load up. The battery died and I plugged the phone into charge it and it turned on like normal with the little loading image of a circle (like the one you seen when a flash file is loading) and then it blinked and did it again, but then nothing. Normally if you let it sit for a second and press the power button, it would show an image of the battery charging. But it doesn't. If I press and hold the power button, it starts to laod up and says "Samung Vibrant" then goes black, and then repeats Samung Vibrant again and again....
Now I am not a super genius on the android thing, but I have flashed many different ROMs and thought I had bricked my phone many times as well, but always have been able to bring it back to life. I am actually starting to think of my phone as "Frankenstien" since it has died and came back so many times...
Now, I have tried to reboot into recovery mode but doing the volume + and - and power, didn't work.
I have tired to boot into download as well...
The phone can be plugged into the computer and it recognizes it as far as sending out a charge to "charge" the phone, but it does not recognize it in Kies or in Odin. I reinstalled the drivers as well and still not recognized... I know the phone is "old" as far as that goes, but it was working fine and currently unemployed, so every penny counts.
Suggestions?

Stuck at Splash Screen

Hi,
I have a Sprint 4G LTE rooted with VIPER rom installed. Last night my phone freaked out, so I did the 10 second "battery pull" and it started up again. I plugged it into the charger and I fell asleep without much worry.
I woke up to find my phone stuck at the LTE splash screen of the VIPER rom. I've done the 10 second "battery pull" several times, and it doesn't just shut the phone off, it forces a reboot. Each time it only makes it as far as the LTE splash screen.
My experience with phones and computers is telling me that the OS might have gotten corrupt some how since it is stuck at the splash screen.
I do have access to the bootloader, so I have some paths I can go down, factory reset/recovery, but both those I'd like to avoid so that I do not lost the contents of my storage.
I have had VIPER rom installed for a good half year, so this issue isn't due to a new rom being flashed.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
-billypilgrim
When data gets corrupted, all you can do is wipe and start over. I had to do that once when running Viper as well.
Just a thought in trying to be helpful....
I used that ROM for a while myself and never really had any issues but have had a similar situation.
I pulled my sd card out and backed it all up. Replaced SD card.
Then went into recovery and reflashed the ROM.
Worked solid after that and no explanation as to why it was corrupt/hanging in a loop.
Hope this helps..

I have that happen several times. Nothing obvious that causes it. Cap'n is right need to wipe and re-flash. Here's the small trick since it just keeps rebooting on you, after you hold power for ten seconds and the screen blacks out. Make sure the capacitive buttons go out as well, that split second they go dark let go of the power button and press vol down and power to get it back into bootloader. Then you can get back in recovery to flash.

[Q] SGS2 won't turn on - probably NAND probs

Hey guys,
my I9100 died this morning. It won't turn on. It even does not show the charging icon, but I have a glimpse where the problem is located at: The NAND.
So some background: Yesterday, I plugged the phone onto my computer. Windows came up and said the storage is defective and it should be checked. I didn't thought about it and commaneded to do it. So everything was fine. Everything still worked.
The problem appeared this morning: I couldn't start Ingress. It always crashed with an IOException at booting up. So I wanted to clear the app's cache. The phone was calculating the sizes and then stuck. "Okay. No Prob. Just reboot." So I did and put it into my bag, because my ROM (Vanilla Rootbox) needs some time to boot. After some minutes I checked again and saw it stuck the Dorimanx bootscreen which I had disabled. I tried another reboot. It came up with the typical "Samsung Galaxy S II" Logo and the blue bar down it filled and it stuck again.
I tried another reboot by taking out the battery, but since then it doesn't turn on anymore. No Power+Home+Vol Up/Down; no charger; nothing.
With attached battery and charger, it get's hot around the camera lens, but nothing more.
I even tried another battery, some time waiting with battery and without battery; charging and not charging, but still it's dead.
So I think, Windows somehow managed to kill my NAND.
Any ideas?
/edit:
With the battery plugged in, it just get's warm.

Possibly bricked phone.. Out of nowhere? Not even flashing

Been running the GPE ROM flawlessly since I flashed on the 12th... Until today. Don't know if this is ROM related but maybe you guys can help.
Out of nowhere, my phone kept shutting off. Couldn't use it for more than a minute after booting before it would turn off completely. Battery was charged so I was kind of like 'wtf'. Then all of a sudden it wouldn't even get to the swirling colors boot screen. It would shut off halfway though the Samsung Custom logo. ****.
Tried plugging it in and pulling the battery multiple times. I can't even boot to recovery! The blue text shows in the upper left but then it will go off again. It's plugged in now but not showing the battery charging screen.
I can only get it to turn on for about a second. Am I ****ed? Is this thing bricked? Super random because I changed NOTHING this morning and it was fine yesterday.

It could be a power button failure, it's actually quite common on the S4.
