DO NOT FLASH IF YOUR ON MDK AND WISH TO RETAIN YOUR CUSTOM RECOVERY! THIS WILL REMOVE THE LOKI EXPLOIT!
This is a new update for SCH-1545 taking users to VRUFNC5. This is the stock factory image. Also, If you need to go back to stock for whatever reason and this Odin tar doesn't work I suggest using the VRUFNC2 factory image from sextape instead.
For the sake of simplicity, I've also included a mirror to the MJ7 and MK2 "emergency" Full-wipe Odin tars as well MJ7 Full-Wipe and MK2 Full-Wipe
@Tomsgt made a great video of the process that can be viewed here
Information:
1. ROOT METHOD can be found here
2. Otherwise, Download Odin 3.09 here (Note: Bootloader = BL , PDA = AP , Phone = CP)
Download: VRUFNC5 No-Wipe SCH-I545_VZW_1_20140330160240_yni63xq6zh.zip
MD5: 71d1c7ea58d2ba81ccadd965b54a2215
Download: VRUFNC5 Full-Wipe SCH-I545_VZW_1_20140330160240_8il17ls9o2_fac.zip
MD5: 8a22dd4a47c2c5f890227fd952657d38
Directions:
No-Wipe
1. Unzip the file and you should have a tar.md5
2. Select the tar.md5 in Odin under PDA (or AP if using Odin 3.09) and keep Odin's default settings
3. Click start and wait for it to say Pass!
Full Wipe ( AKA Emeregency Repair)
1. Unzip the file and you should have a ALL_VZW_I545VRUFNC5_I545VZWFNC5_1151670_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
2. Select the tar.md5 in Odin under PDA (or AP if using Odin 3.09) and keep Odin's default settings
3. Extract the PIT file from your phone or Odin tar, also I've uploaded it here just in case.
4. Put the PIT file in PIT and load the the Odin tar.md5 in PDA (or AP if using Odin 3.09) then click start.

Surge - thanks for posting the NC5 tars! Anyone have access to a 32 gig model .PIT? I've tried to extract mine using Heimdall but it refuses to work, so if someone has the larger pit file I'd appreciate the help.
Edit: Never mind I opened up the factory wipe tar and extracted it.
Awesome work there @Surge1223. Upgraded from the NC2 leak to NC5 using the no-wipe file. Absolutely no issues or errors (finally). Now, just waiting for the OnePlus to officially release so I can throw my money at 4 of them and sell the S4, and possibly leave Verizon in the process.
Guys, if we flash the NC5 tar and the phone boots normally, will we be able to downgrade to MK2 after we test it, and most important, will the actual root for MK2 still function?
I would like to try the rom, but then come back to MK2, root, ss and restore my backup .
Thanks.

Dumb question...If we have this, why don't we have a rooted flashable ZIP? I assume these are similar to disk images; are we essentially waiting for someone to extract the proper bits from said images then build a flashable zip from them?

Surge has this. From another thread in the "General" section, he is holding off releasing it to avoid all the questions and confusion since it seems so many people are having difficulties with his pre-rooted leaked NC2 release and pounding him with problems and questions regarding that.
I completely understand his position on this even though I eagerly am awaiting pre-rooted NC5 myself. I had little problem doing the upgrade to his NC2 ROM coming from Hyperdrive and MJ7 personally, but others have had grief for some reason.
NC2 to NC5 (Non Rooted) successful using the no wipe.tar
Thanks Surge.

Same here. I did have some difficulty and had to improvise a little but I referred to the instructions for the NC2 upgrade and eventually managed to be on NC2 with Safestrap. Solved my problems on my own with the information that was already available.
so to be clear, if i use surge's Upgrade to 4.4.2 and keep root method to NC2. Then can i use the NC5 odin.tar NO-WIPE file to upgrade to NC5 and retain root?

OK so I'm brand new here and I've been reading for hours but haven't found what I'm looking for....I'm looking for a step by step of how to install the newest hyperdrive on my mk2 build. I've installed the newest safestrap and backed up my system. If someone could give me a step by step including everything as if I was a dumbass (although it's only half true ) I would be extremely grateful!!!
I just need to know if you can use the MJ7 modules with MK2. From what I read after SS is installed you install HD11 and the modules too. I'm pretty sure you need to install the modules or it wont work, except on hashcodes thread it says mk2 is coming soon, so either we can use MJ7 modules or have to wait.

Backstory:
So last night my phone turned off by itself and wouldn't turn back on. My first thought it something with the ROM. So I boot to recovery and start a backup before I try to wipe/format etc. Long story short, it ended up being the battery just ate sh*t. So I got a new battery from Verizon, after I tried to ODIN back to stock though...
Problem:
I was on Hyperdrive RLS15, and I tried to Odin open1your1eyes MDK NoWipe. But my phone is just hanging on the Verizon screen. (it has been over half hr) My phone is MDK base (no safestrap), is that the right thing to flash? Is there anything else I have to do?
Thanks in advance, and forgive my naiveness. :silly:

You're going to want to keep your bootloader MDK. With MDK you an flash any ROM you want, AOSP , AOKP , CM , TW..... 4.3...4.4 you name it.
If you updated to MK2 base you'd take away your options. You'd only be able to flash TW ROMs that are based on whatever build your phone is ...MK2 is 4.3 . And your only recovery would be SafeStrap. Not TWRP or CWM
How did end up with HD15 ? Flashed in recovery right? You can find any number of ROMs on these forums that are based off of MK2 or MJ7 and just flash them in recovery.

Gotcha. Yes recovery. HD says it's MK2 based, but my phone build still says MDK in the About screen. That's why I was wondering. Come to think of it though, doesn't that just display the Modem version (which is recovery flashable), correct?

Yes. MDK is your bootloader/Build and MK2 would be your baseband/modem.
Grab this app and it will show you everything https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo

Before you start doing anything to your phone, find what build number you have. To do this go to settings >> more >> about phone. Then scroll to the bottom and find build number. Remember the last 3 characters of it because it will be referred to things across the forum.
I nor the devs who created these threads are responsible for anything that may happen or happens to your phone as a result of rooting, flashing, etc. You are choosing to do this yourself and therefore assume any/all risks involved

Safestrap
Since the bootloader is locked and the loki exploit is patched. Only those on MDK can have a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM to flash almost anything on their device. Those who are on a build above MDK (ME7, MI1, MJ7, MK2 and NC5) can only use SafeStrap to flash touchwiz based roms. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH A CUSTOM RECOVERY ON A BUILD ABOVE MDK. We can't flash custom kernels so we can't flash roms like CyanogenMod, and AOSP, they require a diffeent kernel. Safestrap requires root. Install safestrap as a normal apk. Thanks to @Hashcode, Without him it would be impossible to flash any custom ROM on a locked bootloader.
VZW Safestrap thread
If you are on ME7 or MI1 you can use Safetrap 3.65 to flash 4.2.2 touchwiz based ROM's in ROM-slots. I recommend you update to MK2 and install Safestrap 3.71
If you are on MJ7 of MK2 you can use Safestrap 3.71 to flash 4.3 touchwiz based ROM's in ROM-slots. Heres a list of compatible 4.3 ROM's
If you are on NC5 you can use the @muniz_ri's SafeStrap 3.7.5 to flash 4.4.2 touchwiz based ROM's. Here's a WIP list of 4.4.2 Compatible ROM's NC5 Modules

Use the NC2 leak tar.
I've read up a bit, but havent been able to confirm something and was hoping someone might be able to help...
Right now, I am on 4.3 MJ7 rooted, and want to upgrade to 4.4 NC5 and then root. I don't care about flashing ROMs, just want root access...
From what I can tell, I have two options, based on what I have done in the past
1) I can ODIN a no-wipe 4.3 MJ7 on my device, so then I can OTA to 4.4, and then root via towelrool
or
2) I can use ODIN directly to 4.4 and then root.
Is there any difference in the end result between the two, or will they get me to the same spot? Also, the link for the no-wipe MJ7 (at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217 ) seems broken, so unless someone has an updated like, I may have to just do #2 anyway.
Thanks for any help

SS, Kernel
What is the meaning of SS? Can I flash a kernel with safe strap , I'm on NC5
So I read that if you downgrade to previous builds, root and then update to NC5 you can keep root and use safestrap 3.72 and compatible roms to customize.
I assume that this can still be done for gs4 if you directly root the NC5 with the new towelroot. Correct? Root is root and safestrap should work the same in both cases, right? Anyone done this? Rooted with towelroot and waiting...
I do understand that kitkat safestrap only has stock slot support which is fine. As long as I have a backup of stock, it doesn't bother me to flash in the stock slot. I do this with my Note 3.

You can go to NC5 and root it with Towelroot.
There is no *supported* version of Safestrap currently available for the Verizon GS4.
You can use the AT&T Safestrap 3.72, but it only flashes over the stock ROM, limiting your ability to recover without a full flash.

Just grabbed an lg g3 and plan to sell my s4
I rooted via towelroot, installed safestrap, and flashed the hyperdrive rom
How would I go back to stock? i'm on NC5, btw.
I seen a thread for a 5.0.1 full wipe, but i'm not too sure if that would work for me?

Best way I believe would be to find nc5 tar file and flash via Odin.
