In the future please search for an answer before asking. This gets asked all the time.
Now to answer you question rooting and unlocking to flush a custom ROM is the easiest way. You can do it without, but you have to mod every app that you want yourself

Yes also it's important to tell us the build number (or at least last digits) because we have two official builds and both are 4.1.1

its ll4
it says ll4
its super simple to root it and flash and I think thats your best bet for having all your apps multiwindow'ed. I had my doubts (only rooted once before and had a tricky process) but its really simple this time around. Just DL some files click a few buttons and your done in under 5 mins. I'm too lazy to find links and whatnot but if you are genuinely interested I can at least send you some stuff on how to root your phone.
Just follow this guide to root unlock and flash a ROM. It's the best walk through around

We all know there is no bootloader unlock on 4.3 with the VZW GS4 which sucks
So what is there to really do with it.
I'm new to android so any suggestions would be great to just mess around with on the phone.
Thanks All

Um... wow.
Ok I've briefly heard about this but never dabbled until now.
Again...wow.
Gives you so many of the options once only available in custom Roms in the stock Rom.
A big thank you!
Try wanam app in playstore, it works with Xposed excellent app for customization

I actually installed it through Xposed in the download section.
That is the best one so far.

It's kind of a newb question. But can someone please point me in the right direction on how to install the latest 4.4. I'm currently rooted on 4.3 MK2.
Thanks.

If you're on Safestrap, don't even try. You'll have probably rescue flash stock and lose root.

Android Geek just posted today about a leaked memo they received from one of their readers. The leak shows the update rolling out May 2nd. *Fingers Crossed*
Here's the article: http://www.android.gs/android-4-4-2-kitkat-update-to-roll-out-soon-for-verizon-samsung-galaxy-s4/
Do you not want to install the 4.4.2 we already have? It works great!

No there isn't true root
It's temproot on the Note 4 and kingoroot/kingroot doesn't work on 4.4.4 or 5.0
Well it was worth a shot I guess for the guys with out root

I quick search would have yielded this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60702414
Searching before posting is rule #1 on XDA having two threads on the same thing serves no purpose purpose.
