I recently got my Galaxy S5 and I have been noticing that it keeps saying that my Wi-fi is ALWAYS on, but i don't keep it on all the time, especially during the day. It sucks up my battery and I don't know how to fix it. So is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? and what do you think I should do? Thanks!

Hmm... never had an issue with that. Is it rooted? Running another rom? International rom? Xposed installed?

Yeah, i searched for this and apparently it was addressed in some firmware a while back, kF something. Im running the stock bell rom atm (kg2) with CFroot kernel, and the past two days I've noticed at some random time during the day, wifi sharing will randomly turn on and i will not notice.
It will then continue to run, eating up my cpu to the point where I've lost like 20% off my battery before i notice that my phone is randomly hot now and what the hell. The past two days its used 20% of my battery, and I've nEVER EVER tried to use wifi sharing ,seems to randomly turn itself on whenever it feels like.
Can anyone chime in? Especially a bell user, do you guys have this phantom wifi sharing thing going on too? I'm confused, because if samsung fixed it back in KF4 r something, why am i experiencing it in KG2?
Thanks...
I thought that issue was solved with KF3 and later, least I don't have it anymore.

Yeah, i read some threads on here, and all the people were like yay! its gone samsung fixed it. Don't know why or how I'm experiencing it, since the threads did say that using wifi has nothing to do with wifi sharing..
i was on KE7 i think and when i looked at the battery usage screen it had wi-fi sharing there at like 17% of the battery

I've only had my GS2 for a week and I am still running stock Bell ROM and kernel (KG2). I have noticed the same thing occasionally though. I was wondering if it has anything to do with these Gameloft games. I know they have ability to do multiplayer over wifi. Maybe they just leave the sharing service turned on even when exiting the game?

Wow thank god I'm not the only one with a bell GSII that has this issue, its odd that samsung fixed it but it happens on our i9100 though. No it can't be, because the process actually labels as the wifisharing apk or w/e. Ive never ever launched any of the game loft games either.
So i think the only choice we have is to delete the app/freeze it using titanium backup or something?.. its pretty annoying because it always eats up at least 10-20% of my battery before i notice it.
Freeze it and WiFi Sharing Manager. It's about as useful as Bluetooth file transfer (i.e., hardly ever used by anyone), and if you do need it, you can always unfreeze it. Samsung really needed to add a toggle for it.
Freeze it with Titanium.
Does anyone know what this wifi sharing actually does? I can still tether and I can still use Kies once i froze it so what does this even do?
It seems just about anything will trigger WiFi sharing to come on. No app specific, almost random. I swear you cough and it'll come on sometimes.
But for us using the Bell S2, unless you want to gamble with a different Kernel (hit or miss on phone functionality issues), we're stuck with it until we get a fix through Kies.

Yes, you can still tether hot spot as well as connect to wi-fi or do anything when you freeze wi-fi sharing and wi-fi sharing manager. I can't beleive the Bell KG2 still has this problem. I had it on KE7 but one of the next firmwares seemed to fix it and it *never* triggers. I think Wi-fi sharing is kind of like bluetooth sharing where you can send files over wi-fi to another device. When browsing in file manager you can click share and share something over wi-fi, bluetooth, gmail. So I would assume that if you chose to share the file over wi-fi, that would be when wi-fi sharing would be invoked. I just don't know what devices would use wi-fi sharing...perhaps you'd need another SGS2
use titanium backup and freeze it and all of the other wifi apps you will see in the list. i froze everything that said wifi and not only did the issue go away, but wifi still works for surfing the net and downloading data.
from what i have read, in order to use wifi sharing the other device has to have that feature enabled as well, so its not like you can use it much anyways.
as for the previous commenters comment on trying another kernel and losing functionality, that has not been the case for me. check in the development section and read up on some of the kernels there. i am using the one with ninphetamine in the title and it works great
Hey XDA
I've a problem with my SGSII.
I've tried a lot different roms like CM7, CheckRom, Oxygen, miui to find the perfect rom to fix my battery usage(my phone usally last for MAX 1 day, even on low usage. (Is this normal??, my friend get like 5 days with his SGSII)
Anyway, on pretty much all of the ROMs above I've occurred a problem with my internet connection - When my phone is idle for a while I looser internet connection and then I have to restart my phone to fix it.
Anyone with similar problem?
Is my phone defect?
Any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
This is my first thread on XDA, I hope I did it correctly (I've checked out suggested threads btw)
the problem with the internet connection is because of the signal is not resetting itself. You can use signalreset (market) app as a solution otherwise flash a stock firmware ROM from sammobile and see whether the problem is solved!
My Wi Fi stops working the same way too. All I do is that I reconnect WiFi from the notification bar.

Thank you for such a great and fast answer!
I will check out Signalreset asap, however if it just en/disable flightmode I am not sure if it helps. Because when it happened I always try en/disable flightmode, without luck - I have to restart to make it work :-/
Soo... it's a generel failure in some deeper laying hard- or software, that's not dependent of the generel software-version.
I'm starting to hate my phone, as it is loosing connection again and again, but only after updating to KI8_NEE. There has not been ANY problems with KI3_NEE, which worked perfectly and rocksolid - and solved the same problem from the previous versions... KI8 may be smoother, but i prefer stability over this generel failure (there's a lot of generel faults, not just lost data-connection).
If that the case, i'm going to smash this phone, or put KI3 back on it... i have been so happy with it, but after upgrading to KI8 - i'm starting to develop a hate-relationship with it...
My old HTC might be slow - but it is dead-on stable...
After trying the signalreset it still doenst work properly.
Any suggestions?

What baseband are you on?
I'm on XWKI1 on AT&T in south Florida and my connection is rock solid now.
That was not the case when I first got the phone with the factory ROM and baseband.

No I dont, I've tried Juice Defender but it didnt help my battery life so I uninstalled it..
I've tried a few days with the stock unrooted and the problem didnt occur, however the internet was still extremely slow, even when I had full signal.
Is there an application to boost signal/speed and/or fix problems?
I know it has been a widespread issue with HTC phones that once the screen turns off the wifi goes into some sort of sleep mode. While this might save battery life it basically makes any real time notifications useless. I was using REGPON Wifi Keepalive app to try to mitigate this issue and thought it was working. But after awhile I was just still noticing never getting gvoice notifications on my phone at home since I'm always on wifi in the house. I've tried a variety of apps on the Play Store and none seem to work.
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I had sent HTC a message when I first found this issue but they were useless. I don't foresee a "fix" for this from them in the near future. Do the custom ROMs fix this issue?

The app BetterBatteryStats can probably help you.
Wifi is active the whole time my device is draining about a third of my battery. I have wifi pop ups off, always allow scanning off, wifi notifications off, and smart network switch off as well. I have no idea what is causing wifi to drain so much battery but if I could fix it the battery life would be amazing.
Does anyone have any clue how to fix it and or is anyone having similar issues?
I'm having the same problem. Any updates?
just turn of searching always for Wi-Fi.. and it's fixed.. it's no bug.. it's always so.. was also so on HTC and all other phones

I mentioned in the original post that I have already done that and it hasn't changed anything.
strange than... I only saw this while this scanning is on.. write Samsung support.. or go into a store..
Yeah looks like it's going to have to come to that

Got the same issue as well. I've now turned wifi off and it's gone fr 33% to 50?!

I don't think that those stats are correct, what you should do is look at wake time, I get 50% drain from wifi yet the battery hasn't moved and the phone was deep sleeping

Its looking like this is a bug with the galaxy s6 edge at least because nothing seems to be helping the issue. I hope we can get a fix otherwise maybe expect it in a OTA update?

damn how do you manage to get five hours SOT with no charging in between?
This isn't a bug with Touchwiz or Galaxy S6/S6E. It is a known Google Lollipop issue on versions prior to 5.1.
Us Nexus 5 folks have been dealing with this issue until we got 5.1.

I don't have this issue. I'm not rooted or anything. I keep wifi on at home all the time so I can get social media updates and etc. Getting good SOT and no Wifi Drain that can be alarming. [International Version]
Wifi battery drain - only on "enterprise" network, not home wifi
Wifi drain is ONLY on my Enterprise network, no drain on home wifi. The major difference is PEAP vs WPA for security.
Wifi enabled at my work (Cisco infrastructure)
EAP method EAP
The "downlink" arrow is ON continuously, and the battery drains to dead in less than 9 hours. Turn wifi OFF and use 4G (or be on home wifi) and battery is good for nearly 20 hours.
I'd be curious to know if those experiencing the wifi battery drain are noticing anything similar.
Best regards,
Richard
