[Q] Unable to save Photo Edits on Contacts - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dont think this issue is custom rom specific hence why am posting this here.
I am trying to edit a contact photo from the address book, when I select a photo from my album I always get the message "unable to save photo edits", and the app just hangs until i close it.
How do I fix this problem?
The contact photos i have are already linked to my contacts on my GMail account, and sync across, but want to edit with higher quality images.
Maybe there is another way to do this am not sure?
My setup is on my sig below.
Thanks.

Ah, never mind found the fix for it
First open installed apps. Find the Google+ app. Next clear cache. Then uninistal updates. Next. Go to play store update Google+ again.
Now try and save a photo to a contact. The First time you will be asked which program to use for edits. Choose gallary. Not Google photos. And voilĂ . It now saves.

Can my HD2 connect to facebook and pull a profile picture for caller ID?

Hi everyone
Glad I found this awesome community that helped me and my phone's relationship grow.
I'm asking this question because I don't want to have to take pics of all my friends, I can't even fill the "People" tab, with my fav. people up with pics cuz it just takes too much effort haha. Connecting to facebook and getting their pic on caller ID would be waay easier!
BT
Sure!
If your using sense as your interface then yes you can. You'll have to link the contact to their fb profile in the "Updates and Events" tab of the contact. Once done it will automatically use the profile pic as the contacts default pic.
As moontashir said, the Facebook link will do this for you, although the links are made based on names, I would presume. If your contact list and your Facebook friends list names don't quite match up, they won't get linked. In my case, about 75-80% of my contacts with Facebook accounts get linked properly. Not too bad.
I'm not sure why but that's not the case for me. I linked the facebook account and the contact successfully, and in the updates and events page I can even see his photos and albums, but there is no button to save the picture nor does it link the picture automatically!
Nevermind, I got it! I had to go to "Edit Contact", click on the picture, and select Facebook Profile. Thanks... Love this forum!

yup is ture, even I can see the picture ...but I still can't save into phone ... maybe got others way???
do we have to do this linking individually for each contact? can we not do it for the entire contact list?
thanks in advance
"Link to Facebook".
"Update"
"Edit Contact, Click on the Picture, --Facebook Profile".
Do you have a quick guide to how I can do it with the "standard" SPB Shell theme?
Wehenever I click facebook when I choose a pic I just get sent to the FB login screen, and nothing happens.
Booksync
Do a quick search of the forums (or google) for a freeware called "Booksync" which will sync ur contacts photo ID with their profile pic in Facebook! Any use??

Yes, I've used that one. Its ok, but for some reason it only starts up once. So whenever I want to use it I need to unninstall and then re-install.
But I cant seem to figure out why the phone wont sync by it self... Should work without problems even with the SPB Shell..

[Q] Caller ID pictures?

I have synched my contact list with Facebook, but when someone rings me their picture is really poor and pixelated. Is there a setting or something I need to change to display it properly? Does anyone else have this problem?
Probably this problem http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4147
Working workaround: create contact with name and photo only on phone then connect to facebook/google contact. Works but you must delete image from google contact (i didn't found option to choose[\b] account photo source).
Really I'd like to know is there a real cure for this.
I had this problem to. You can't see the pics if you sync it with the Facebook app. Instead I sync my contact (only) with Samsung's Social Hub and then manually join any contacts which the phone can't find automatically. Then I see all the pics, and they also get updated.
NOTE: I can also see the contact pics in LP People widget
Or just install this.

I use it on my desire hd and the caller id pic is very clear.
Sorry I'm probably being thick but could you explain that workaround a bit more?
I have the same problem, the pictures are really pixelated, both when you get a call and when you have them as a buddy widget on one of your homescreens!

Yeah, sure
1. You can install the Facebook app, but don't sync the contacts.
2. Open Samsung's Social Hub. Click on the menu button and then "add account". Choose "Facebook" and add enter your username and password. Choose to sync your contacts (and also the calendar and events too if you want).
Now you should see your Facebook contacts in your phone book (if you don't you need to enable it in the phone book's options).
The phonebook might be able to join your normal contacts with the Facebook contact, but on mine in didn't match too many.
To join them manually, long press on a contact and choose "join contact" - now choose their Facebook profile and they should now be joined.
When that person call's you should also see their status update on your screen.
If the pics on the widget come up blurry then press the widget and it should automatically adjust the image.
Hope this helps...

[Q]How to remove google photos(picasa) entirely from prime?

I already unchecked the tick for the sync of picasa photo albums but didn't for the first time i set up my google account. Now, the pictures can't be deleted! any ideas how to remove the photos now?
Mods, you delete this thread if neccessary. I found my solution here:

But I only need to clear the data from my gallery, I didn't for G+

Regarding Sync with Google Account stuff

I got a Galaxy S3 (International Edition) just yesterday
I enabled it to pull stuff from my google accounts, but then when I'm going to open the contacts, I see a bunch of my gmail contacts
How can I remove those from the phone? Selecting to display 'only contacts with phones' seems to fix it, but the email contacts are still available to be seen if one goes to settings and sets to display all contacts again
The same happens with the gallery application, it has like one album for each image I've ever published in Google+, I can set it to display only images from the phone, but then this is not a permanent setting, everytime I exit the Gallery app and re-enter it, it will display all the images from G+ (and I've heard that it will scan the microSD at launch for images, so it will become a clutter of every possible image it can find in the SD)
I have now disabled the sync of google contacts / g+ stuff to the phone, from settings -> accounts and sync -> uncheck sync google photos/google+/picasa web albums/contacts, so it doesn't pull down new stuff anymore, but the old stuff is still there
Is there any way to remove that?
Is there a good gallery app that will not scan the whole SD for media, nor will pull stuff from picasa/google+?
Thanks!
quick pic is the gallery app for you, you can select which folders to see, or just long press a folder and hit exclude

I'm also using quick pic and happy with it. Simple but does the work better then stock gallery app.

Now just delete local files and you should be fine.
If you have a lot of them I would suggest to use File Browser such as ASTRO.

[Q] Assigning contact photo issues

Stock Galaxy S3 - Android 4.1.1
I can only use photos taken by my phone as contact photos.
If I go to gallery, and select any picture from the camera album that was taken by the phone ( internal or external storage ) I'm good to go, but if I select a photo from any other stored or edited album I have created, and try to set it as contact photo it will bring up the phone book, allow me to pick my contact, then allow me to crop the picture if need be, but when I click done, I get a black screen and no photo is assigned to my contact.
In other words, if I have downloaded a picture from a text, email, or just transferred from my computer, I can never get that to assign to a contact. I even tried dragging these photos into the camera album and repeating the process.. but still no luck.
I have an application called Deja office I use for contact syncing as I use ACT contact database on my PC to maintain my contacts, and although I can assign photos to my contacts through that app, there is no editing capabilities when I do it that way.. no cropping, resizing, etc.. and the photos look like crap. Reason why I mention that is the app takes over the editing capabilities of contacts direct from the phone itself and I can't edit a contact through the normal samsung phone book.
But with that said... strange I can change any contact photo as long as it is taken by the phone itself via the camera gallery(s), and cannot with any other photo??
I searched for anyone having a similar issue.. and seem to be all alone? Anyone.. anyone??
Thanks!
Problem solved on my own...
Found out that the only contacts I could assign photos were one's also in my google contacts. Those that were set up just in Deja office would not allow me to edit photos.. period.
I synced all my contacts to google, ( didn't really wanna do that ), but merged them and combined duplicates and now I can update the contact photos.
If a mod wants to delete this thread.. go ahead. It might serve some purpose for those that use Deja Office though.
Cheers..
